10.9.3: HP 1012 Unsupported Personality: PCL

Since upgrading to 10.9.3, every time we print to our HP LaserJet 1012, we get an extra page that says "Unsupported Personality: PCL". It's been working perfectly for years. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

You can try the update:
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl907 before or after the manufacturer's drivers on the website.  If neither works:
Recover your backup before the installation.   There is no guarantee software will continue to work after an upgrade unless the manufacturer sends updated drivers after the update.
10.9.2 is a good version of 10.9.  If your Mac came out before 10.9's release, it is better to run 10.8.5 than 10.9 due to security issues with 10.9.0 and 10.9.1.
And contact HP and let them know they need a 10.9.3 driver update.

Looking for HP 1012 printer driver for Windows 7?
You, like me, tried to install the HP 1012 printer onto a computer that ran Windows 7, but to no avail.
You need to go to Start --> Devices and Printers -->  Add a printer --> Add a local printer --> Select ":Use an existing port: DOT4_001 (Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support)" --> click Next --> Select HP for manufacturer --> scroll down to HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5.  Select this as your printer.
That's it, and make sure it's set as the default printer.
    You're welcome

I read that installing the HP LaserJet 3055 PCL5, driver would enable my HP Laserjet 1012.  I downloaded the software and followed the directions and the printer gives me "Unsupported Personality PCL"  No success.  sweet_land04

  • HP Laserjet 1012 -- suddenly stopped printing; gives cryptic message

I have an HP Laserjet 1012 hooked up to my iMac. The driver is already installed on the system, and there is no updated driver available from HP.
It's been performing wonderfully until today. Now, everytime I attempt to print, it just prints a page with the phrase "Unsupported Personality:PCL".
What does this mean? Any idea how to get it printing again?

I have to say, HP is notorious for terrible Mac support. There drivers, especially for scanners, is just plain horrible.

  • CUPS + LaserJet 1012 problem

    Hi, all!
I have almost the same problem as in this post, but with HP LaserJet 1012. The following info is present on Information tab of Control Center->Printers:
    State: Processing... (accepting jobs)
    URI: ipp://localhost.localdomain:631/printers/hp_LaserJet_1012
    Device: hp:/usb/hp_LaserJet_1012?serial=00CNFD165436
    Model: HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs
I tried two drivers: 1012 hpijs and LaserJet 1012 pxl1010 - none of them helped.
When i send test page to printer, nothing happens. In job status window there are the following fields: job-printer-state-message="open device failed; will retry in 30 seconds...", job-printer-state-reasons="none". Cups ver. 1.3.5-1, hplip ver. 2.7.10-1.
What can be done to allow printing with HP Laserjet 1012?

I'm probably the most inexperienced person here, but from this website:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_print … erJet_1012
it appears that the 1012 isn't fully supported or it just doesn't work like it should.  I quote from their website:
Unfortunately, the new LaserJet 1010/1012 series seems not to be absolutely compatible with older HP printers or it has a firmware bug. Sometimes it happens that the printer stops working and reports the error "Unsupported Personality: PCL". It only continues working when one kills the job and power-cycles the printer.
Anyways, I'm not sure it will work until someone does some tinkering with the drivers.

  • Hp Laserjet 1012 not working after installing Yosemite

After updating to OSX Yosemite, my laserjet 1012 printer no longer works. I've tried downloading the new hp update in the app store multiple times after removing the printer and previous drivers with no luck.
My computer is recognizing the printer, and when i try to print something, the page comes out with "Unsupported Personality: PCL" at the top.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem that works? I've already spent a few hours trying suggestions from other forums.

    Hi @challdev,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the HP Laserjet 1012 is a commercial product. You can do this at HP Enterprise Business Community.
The support page for your product may be helpful in the meantime:
    HP Support Center.
    I hope this helps!

  • CUPS & Print Center problem

    Hi all,
I did a ForceQuit of Firefox 2.0.0.20 after it got stuck on a website, and now I can't print anything from Firefox. The Print Dialog window comes up and instead of my printer showing up as the default selected printer, only "No Printer Selected" is displayed. When I select "Edit Printer List", Print Center comes up and indeed shows my printer, but nothing seems to get Firefox to update itself to know about my printer.
What's really odd, is that I can print from all the other apps I've tried (eg. Word, Safari, TextEdit).
I also tried the usual re-installing (from a backup tape) the drivers in /Library/Printers, but no change. I also created a new profile in Firefox, also no change. Still no printer is known to Firefox. Safari, Word and the rest all still see and can use my printer.
When I type "about:config" in Firefox's address bar, I see the "print.print_printer" field with nothing in the value field. When I right-click the print_printer field and fill in the IP address of my printer and re-start Firefox, still no printer is known to Firefox.
More oddly, when I bring up Print Center directly, and click on the "Add Printer" button, Print Center itself crashes.
When I look in /var/log/cups/error_log , I see only "getprinterattrs: resource name '/printers/ ' no good!" as the error message.
Also, in /var/log/cups/page_log , since I've started having problems w/Firefox printing, the index of the print job re-set to 1 from my old index no.:
    A_B_CD ed 9374 [06/Apr/2009:14:40:57 -0700] 1 1
    A_B_CD ed 1 [10/Apr/2009:12:02:28 -0700] 1 1
I've looked in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox and other places for some plist file that Firefox uses to get it's list of available printers, but nothing stands out to me.
Does anyone know where CUPS and/or Print Center on Mac OSX 10.2.8 stores it's list of available printers on a per application level, are stored?
Any tips, or ideas, as to where to look next to solve this printing problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Ed

    Hi,
change access method from berkely to F or G . if you are intrested in Frontend printing , you need not give the IP address of the printer. __default will select the default printer of the Workstation from which GUI is operated.

  • Laserjet pro 100 color mfp m175

We have a number of HP LaserJet Pro 100 Color MFP M175's in our school.  They are connected to the network via ethernet cable rather than wirelessly. A number of users print to them either from a Windows XP (running service pack 2) desktop or from a Windows 7 (newly built) laptop.  They were working fine for a few days and then all of a sudden they may have any of the following problems:
unsupported personality error printed at the top of a lot of pages (ie you may try and print one page but hundreds of pages come out with this error).
there may be an invalid driver error on the control panel on the printer
there may be weird alien-looking characters at the top of hundreds of blank pages
initially all of the printers had the driver installed that came with the printers, when we started getting the error, we then tried running the diagnostics doctor on the hp web site, which said all the drivers were valid.  We have also tried using the universal print driver from the HP support website, but still get the problem after a few days.  We can make all of the errors go away by re-installing any of the above drivers, but then the problem starts happening again after a few days. The server is Windows 2003R2 running service pack 2, we have tried installing the drivers on the server too, but they won't install. Another printer was set up this week in the school office which only has people printing from Windows 7 machines and doesn't have the error - this could be because it's too soon to happen yet, or maybe because there are no Windows XP machines printing to it? (It does print through the same server as the others)  Help would be greatly appreciated, we are a school and so can't afford to be wasting lots of paper, plus this is taking up all of our time rather than fixing other issues!  thanks in advance

Tammy, sounds like there could be a couple things that might cause this issue. The first of which is that the RJ45 cable you are using to connect the printer might have become corrupted. I would replace that cord and see if the issue remains.
Second, I want you to see about updating the firmware from this website :
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=5076465
If that still presents issues, you can use that same website to download the more recent drivers. I would uninstall the old version you have on the computer and then open that link and install the full feature software.
Let me know how that goes and I will get right back with you!
I hope you are having a wonderful week, and I hope that the weather where you are located is as beautiful there as it is here!

  • Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?

Is it possible to print from Windows 8.1 to a printer connected to the USB port on an Airport Express?
    a) HP printer with USB port only (no ethernet port) connected to Airport Express
    b) No issue printing from Macs
    Tests
    1) Installed Bonjour 2 - does not find printer (now uninstalled)
    2) Bonjour 3 is listed in programs but no way to access
    3) Using TCPIP address (and no Bonjour) gives 'Unsupported Personality' error when printing test page
    Regards
    Richard
p.s. why are all Windows 8.1 questios n the forum 'Locked' with no reply?

This is possible, but not with Bonjour or any other fixes.  It is just a printer set up based on the Port name of the Airport, 10.0.1.1.
I found the answer on YouTube, Title: Windows Printing For Apple AirPort Extreme without Bonjour Wireless wifi.

  • HP1010 laser & network printing ' unsuported personality'

Hi I have a HP 1010 laser conected to a Netgear WGPS606  print server. The print server installs fine, and displays the printer as being connected. I installed the downloaded drivers manually as the print server is configured. I can do a test print and everything fine upon completion.
However, once I try to print from any PC to the device I get 'unsupported personality' as the output of the page. Any idea's whats causing this?
I suspect its a driver problem as I downloaded 2 versions of the driver
1/  lj1010serieshb-en  just the driver itself I assume which gives the error above.
I also tried the following lj1010seriesprnsyswin-en which crashes if I try to install it.
Any idea's ?  or is there a better driver somewhere I've missed??
needless to say I dont have the original software anymore and I'd rather not connect the printer upto each PC ( 12 in al) to install it and then change the port configuration ..

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

Even I checked the services started but some of the Oracle services are still in "starting" staus
Can any one help me in this?

Those 'starting' services must switch to 'started' before things will start to happen.
What are the machine specs? Hopefully you have a decent CPU speed (>500MHz) and amount opf memory (>512M RAM) or things can be unsufferably slow.
Is there a particularily good reason for using Oracle8i? After all, it is an unsupported and obsolete version of the database.
