10.9.3 update display color change

Hello all,
Is it only me or have more people noticed a change in the display color (or color profile) since the latest 10.9.3 update?
I updated a moment ago while working on some graphic designs. After restart I could clearly see the change as I used a very light (237 235 221) background color and it looks certainly different now. I checked the color profiles and I still use the Adobe RGB (1998) as I did before the update.
Light conditions in the room are the same, my eyes are stil the same, no huge amounts of coffee since the upgrade either.
I can live with this but would like to know if something begins to happen with my computer or wether it is a more common problem, then I can rest asure a fix will arrive soon ;-)
All the best!
Jeroen

  • Display color changes when I start some applications.

    Hello.
    Today I reinstalled OSX 10.8.1.
    All applications are up2date.
But some applications like iPhoto have a strange behavior. When I start them, the display color changes. It looks like it has a blue fog.
As soon as I close the application it's back to normal. Only happens for a few applications.
In the console I see the following entires when I start the application and the display changes:

Any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks
    Dan

I had the same problem early on in Mountain Lion - whenever an application kicked in that used the discrete GPU, the screen would get a bluish tint. I 'resolved' the situation by using Cody Krieger's gfxCardStatus and kept the mode on Integrated Only. This, of course, slowed down some applications but, by and large, I was able to live with it. Then one day - just out of the 'blue' - I decided to switch back to Dynamic Switching: and, lo and behold, by blue tint was gone when the discrete GPU kicked in.
I only know how to temporarily fix the problem - you're one of about a dozen people that have reported it both here and in the Adobe Photoshop users forum. Try the gfxCardStatus 'fix' and then see if the problem doesn't rectify itself after a bit. It wasn't the 10.8.1 update that fixed my problem - it was just a week or so of running on integrated only.
Let me know if this doesn't work for you...

  • Display color changes when Photoshop opens

    Hi there,
Since recently, whenever I open Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) or Illustrator CS6 (16.1.0), the display color changes, i.e. as if the display color profile termporarily changes to a different one. Even if I switch to another app, the color change will remain until I quite Photoshop or Illustrator. Using Mac OS 10.8.2.
Does anyone anyone have an idea how to prevent this from happening?
    Thanks!

The color shift happens when the computer changes the graphics card (from Intel HD to Nvidia or AMD). It's a problem of Mac OS X 10.8.x. I found a simple solution that worked (at least for me):
Turn off automatic graphics switching in System Preferences > Energy Saver
    Reboot your computer
Turn automatic graphics switching on again (or leave it off, as you like ...)
It seems that the mac has to start up with the discreet graphics card turned on (Nvidia or AMD).

  • Display colors change after start up

Hi, I recently tried to open a Power Point file which was too heavy and I got so desperate that I hit the keyboards as if they were a piano... Final result is that now everytime I start up the computer the display colors are all a mess, like if the "negative" part of the picture shows up instead of the true colors. I know the display is ok, for when the computer is started, the initial screen colors show up well.
I would not like having to reload the operating system to fix the problem.
    Any suggestions?

Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on the Seeing tab, turn off the White on Black option, move the Contrast slider all the way to the left, and deactivate the remaining options except for the one which controls access to assistive devices.

  • Im the photographer... the display color change when i upgrade to SL..

I m a photographer, after i upgraded to SL, all my black and white photo are yellowish. The black are not total black and the white are not total white like in os x 10.5.x. Are any others photographer upgrade their os and face this problem too?

Check that the correct profile is selected for your display (in Sys. Prefs. -> Display -> Color)
After installing SL mine was not set to the correct profile. I fixed it, and it has remained set to the correct one since.

  • Motion update caused color changes

After updating to Motion 3.01, FCP 6.01, etc...I noticed that when playing an older Motion project, the colors have changed drastically in the "Water Dance" background emitter, located in the CONTENT folder. I had been using a combination of Water Dance, and Summer, that had a nice "sun rays shining down through the sky" look, and now the colors have gone from golden yellow to a rotation of magenta, green, and dark blue. It's rather ugly now, and I have no idea why it changed. Anyone else experience this?
I'm not going to complain because this is a small price to pay for the update that resolved my having roughly a crash every minute to about only 4 crashes total yesterday.

Many thanks for your suggestion...it solved the problem
It would appear that the update for some reason changed my screen profile from RGB 1998 in "Proofing Profile" to a media profile.
    Thanks for your help

  • Mac mini display color changed.  How do I get it back to normal?

I picked up my keyboard to remove dust and dirt, and I must have pressed some button or two, because now the colors in my display are horribly wrong.
    I opened Library/ColorSync
    and then Profile First Aid.
I verified and repaired and got this message:
    "Library/ColorSync/Profiles/EW-sRGB
Tag 'desc': Tag size not correct.  Could not be fixed."
What do I need to do to get my colors back to normal?!?!?

Create a new user, log out your current user and log in as the new. It colors are displayed correctly, then I guess you could go into the other user's library and delete the offending file.
Moral of the story: To clean your keyboard, do disconect it first... ;-)

    Hi everyone!
The display on my Mac turned into a very light blue. It's very annoying to work like this. Any help to correct it on my own?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Pictures would help. A good way to do this is to post them to a free photo sharing site like Flickr and then post a link.
Also, you are in the original MBP section, and I think you need to post your question in the newer MBP section:

  • Color change from PS to LR

Sorry if thias has been posted somewhere else before.
I'm making a new logo to use in my  web-galleries, generated in the WEB-module in LR.
In Photoshop I  ensure  the background color is #141414 - but when I open the logo in LR 2 (or # for that matter) the background-color reads #191919. The same thing happens when I import the logo through the library-module - the background-colour changes. The logo is made as a RGB PSD-file in the ProPhoto color-space.
How do I avoid this change?
And - if this applies to all my PSD-files imported back to LR there's no point in colormanagement at all!?!
Any help og hints would be so great, as this is driving me nuts.
    -s.
    Logo-file attached

    Unfortunately Jao, yours wasn't.
I'm sorry because of that. Perhaps you should first read up on color spaces. This is a good article. The thing to know is that the numbers you read of the display in Lightroom are not 8-bit numbers in prophotoRGB, but are percentages in a related space which has prophotoRGB primaries and a sRGB tone curve. The working space in Lightroom is linear prophotoRGB. So if you have a color of 14,14,14 in Photoshop (I am assuming those are normal arab numbers in an 8-bit display) in prophotoRGB, the corresponding number in Lightroom would be 6.4% for all three. If your numbers where hexadecimal, the display in Lightroom would show 10%.
Rereading your post, my guess is that you are talking about something else where the actual displayed color changes, so that it is visible to your own eyes. On a correctly setup system this should never happen. As troutmask notes, differences between PS and Lightroom are basically always due to a few things. I. Bad monitor profile. Fix this by recalibrating. II. Incorrect setup in Photoshop. It should be setup to always respect embedded color spaces and the working space should NOT be the monitor profile. III. Failure to include an icc profile on save from Photoshop. III is very common. Make sure that when you save, to include the prophotoRGB profile. Otherwise, Lightroom will assume it is an sRGB file.
Lastly, and I am starting to think that this is your issue, if you are creating a logo for the web, make sure you do it in the sRGB profile (simply do a convert to profile in Photoshop and save it under a different name). On windows almost every web browser (except Safari and the latest Firefox) are not color managed, so they will give weird color if you feed it images in anything else than sRGB. The web module in the windows version of Lightroom uses the IE engine, so you don't get color management in that module. You also don't get color management in flash galleries on any platform.

  • Why have colors change in new update?  And won't allow me to permanently change back - as they revert on their own?

My iCal calendar colors changed by themself.  I have gone to "edit" and "get info" and have changed the colors back.  Within minutes, they change back to the wrong color.  It has now made these same changes on my iPhone 5 and iPad mini.  What's going on?  How do I permanently change these colors?

Here are two screen shots to show you what I am seeing.  The first screen shot shows it allowing me to select (highlighted in blue) my admin user (which is what I am locced in as).  The second screen shot shows it allowing me to select the "Guest" user (highlighted in blue).  However when I click on the user "Orion" nothing happens.  It will not change to highlight that user.

  • Color change in RAW file from CR2 to DNG

I recently got a new Canon camera, the 60D and when converting from the CR2 file format to the DNG format using the latest 7.2 version of DNG Converter I notice a color change between the original image (CR2 file) to the new DNG file.  Once I open it into Camera RAW (version 4.6 with CS3) the color issues go away and if I save it as a JPEG the color issue is no longer a problem but if I were to resave the DNG file to another DNG file it reverts back to the color changed view in MacOS.  Is this something that I need to be concerned with for future use of the RAW files or is it a display issue in MacOS and iPhoto.  The DNG file also shows the color change in iPhoto.  Below are the two screen caps.
RAW CR2 file straight from the camera
Converted RAW CR2 to DNG using DNG converter
This issue only appears to occur in preview mode or in iPhoto.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

Try changing the CAMERA’S color-profile settings from sRGB to Adobe RGB or from Adobe RGB to sRGB, switch to the opposite one, and see if the previews are any closer for new CR2 you convert to DNGs.  The theory is that the preview is in terms of the camera Color Profile setting (sRGB vs Adobe RGB) and when the image is converted to DNG that profile is lost for iOS to see, and it is defaulting to the wrong profile.
In the end , what matters is how Camera Raw converts the file.
Also DNGC 7.3 is the latest version:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/

  • Display Colors in Negative

I've had my computer for less than a year. My MacBook suddenly changed in terms of its display colors. Rather than showing colors normally, I'm seeing my entire display in what looks like a photo negative. I'm not sure what to do to fix this problem. I've done all of the updates, and nothing has changed. When I initially restart it appears normal for just a moment, but then it changes to this "negative" display.
Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you fix it?
    Thanks!

I tried this option under Universal Access but this did not work for me.
My situation is that it looks like colors are "blurred" for lack of a better word. I can see text as long it is not munged by colors.
I thought it might be a resolution issue but I tried setting under Display in System Preference with no result.
As some others have reported, the MacBook Pro can get very hot under the bottom so I am wondering if the heat messed up the display?
Other ideas to look for? Thanks.
