10.9.3 update "less than a minute" - 60 mins ago

Hi
I installed the updates for 10.9.3 which required a reboot.  After the reboot the Installing Software Update dialog shows and the progress bar moved swiftly towards the end, then stuck at about 95% with the "Less than a minute" message.  That was 60 minutes ago!
Should I leave it and hope it sorts it self out or try turning it off?
Cheers
Ian

I'd actually forgotten about this - just went back and the install was still at the same place.  That's quite a few hours so I held the power button down and restarted which it did no problem.
However the updates had not been applied and OSX stated reboot is required.
There were two updates listed, iTunes and the OSX one.  Last time I had clicked update all, this time I just tried the OSX update and that rebooted and worked without issues.  iTunes then updated once the machine had rebooted and I had signed in.
So bottom line is that all us good now.
Hope this helps someone

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.

    try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?
    Anyone else having this?
Shall I just wait or can i force shut down or anything like that?
    Thanks.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.
    Thanks.

Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss) Then try the update again.

The latest Mavericks update has been stuck at " Installing software update" and "Less than a minute" for an hour and a half. How can I save my system?
    Thanks.

Try restarting and then go to the  menu/About this Mac to see if the update is installed.
If not, try the combo update.

  • 10.9.2 update stopped with "less than a minute"

My wife just updated her mid-2012 MBP to 10.9.2 and we went out to dinner, when we came back a couple hours later it was at "less than a minute..." but there was no indication that the hdd was writing or anything. If you tried to move the mouse via touchpad nothing would happen but the Magic Mouse seems to be working. Because it's not actually running at this point, is it safe to manually shut it down or restart it?
I'm just gonna leave it overnight and see if it pulls itself together but my wife is super worried that she's borked her lappy.
    Any advice?

If the 10.9.2 update is frozen, hold the Power button to turn off the computer, and turn it on again. Then, open  > About this Mac, and check that 10.9.2 is installed.

  • Latest update 7.1.2 stuck with less than one minute remaining

I Couldn't download anymore apps and noticed I needed to update my software to the latest version so thought that this would solve the problem. I started the update at 11pm last night and after waiting 2 hours with it on  charge and connected to wifi it still said less than one minute remaining.  Searches on internet suggest a hard reboot but will this loose my apps as some I have are no longer available to get?  I have backed up photos etc to the cloud so not too worried about those.
any advise please   Thanks in advance

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Just finished update. While in the Tips, why did it tell me I have an old version? Hey there! Looks like you're using an old version of Firefox. Don't miss out on the latest technology & security features. Get the free upgrade in less than a minute.

The top of the screen has an owl like icon & then the following message:
Hey there! Looks like you’re using an old version of Firefox.

Dear Colbabomb; thankyou for your links.
So far, I looked at your first solution, Revo Uninstaller and it gives you a 30 free trial. Ergo, it will eventually cost money so I'm leery of using those kinds of programs in general, meaning most "free trials" have unwanted strings attached and often are big probs to get rid of later. Perhaps you can assure me that it is easy and very user friendly, before I proceed. And I already ran malwarebytes and it found nothing tho the program still can't be uninstalled. I downloaded Adw Cleaner and during the install, my Norton's security popped up and warned that there were (low risk) threats with two of their "other offers" and i hadn't even actually clicked to agree either of them. Nonetheless, Norton warned me against the "lyrics finder" and "deal ply." In fact, there was a box already with an x in it, saying that you are accepting deal ply if you x on "next." Well, except I unchecked that box before clicking on next, yet when it went to fully install, it still showed that it was adding itself; so, just before the install was 100% completed, I had to abort the whole thing. I really do hope your other suggestions are programs that you personally know that they don't try and trick you. But right now, I would not suggest Adw Cleaner to anyone. I even read the fine print about what they will try and install and how to decline and it still tried sticking stuff on that i believed I had declined. Anyways, i have to leave now, shall pick up later this evening, if my pc is still functioning.

  • Copying large files hangs at "less than a minute"

    hi,
When copying large files around my intel mac mini system the Finder appears to freeze just before the end - when the dialog window is telling me that there's "less than a minute" left. It doesn't happen ALL the time, just enough times to be a real nuisance.
Killing the finder doesn't help - I need to power off to regain control of the Finder.
This recently started to happen after I opened up the mac mini to add more memory. Not sure if this is related - everything else seems to be ok. I have a mixture of USB and Firewire external drives - the mac mini is used to hold all my HD camcorder files and process the iMovie rendering to disk.
I'm running the latest version of os x with all the updates.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Hello! It's likely a firmware issue with an external
drive. Check the ext drive's site to see if there's a
    firmware upgrade. Tom
Thanks for the reply Tom. I've downloaded a firmware updater from the Lacie site, and I'm apparently uptodate. However, I also have a USB Seagate external drive, but the Seagate site seems to only provide support for Windows. grr.
Is this a known problem with certain drives/firmware?
    thanks,

  • "less than a minute" when migrating, transfer fails

Migrating to a MBP running 10.7.2. from white iMac running updated Snow Leopard. Everthing is fine until it gets near the end to "less than a minute" then hangs up there and goes no further. I quit and get nothing.

Your TimeMachine drive is not functioning.
Use a Firewire cable and a Firewire 800 to Firewire 400 adapter if you need it and follow the steps to hook the two computers together like I outlined above. Try migration assistant that way.
Another way is to use Carbon Copy Cloner and cloning the iMac's hard drive to the external drive, it has to be formatted GUID OS X Extended first in Disk Utility.  Then once you have the iMac clone connected to the MBP then run Migration Assistant against the clone and it works too.
Another method is to use a external drive and transfer the files using that manually.
Last two methods you need to format the external drive correctly

  • Migration Assistant Stuck at "Less than a minute remaining"

Migrating from old G5 single CPU to dual 2.3 G5. Tiger to Tiger. The dual has a clean install from the setup disk, but no software updates -- I just followed the onscreen instructions regarding when and how to do the migration via Firewire target disk mode.
The migration ran for 2 hours, the minutes counting down just fine, but it stopped with "Less than a minute remaining." There it sits, fans blowing, workday slipping away. Any ideas? Is the migration probably finished? Some lonnnng verification occuring?
    Thanks,
    Paul Otteson

Wait another hour. If it doesn't work, you may have insufficient space to finish the migration, or a bad firewire cable for or interface on the drive in question.
Consider the steps suggested for PowerPC to Intel migration. They are more likely to work:

  • Firefox freezes when I open it after less than a minute of searching. It freezes regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried reinstalling it several times and have even tried a clean reinstall but it didn't work.

When I open it, Firefox freezes after less than a minute of use. After waiting a few minutes, it unfreezes but then freezes again a few seconds later. This happens regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and the problem didn't go away. I've even tried a clean reinstallation but it didn't work. This only happens on Firefox. IE and Safari work fine.

-Plug your MacBook into a power source.
-Click on the Apple menu and select "System Preferences".
-Click on the "Energy Saver" icon.
    -Click on the "Options" tab.
-Uncheck the box labeled "Automatically reduce brightness of display before display sleep"
-At the top, next to "Settings for:", select "Battery" from the drop down menu.
-Uncheck the box labeled "Automatically reduce brightness of display before display sleep"
