10.9.4 not responding when logging in from screen saver

I have a MacBook Air with Mavericks and this wee I updated to 10.9.4. I have password activated restart from screensave; everything was normal but today, when I close the display and it sleeps, at the start screen I type my password and it freezes, it does not log in or does anything else, the dots showing representing the password go grey and ceases working. If I press the power button it restarts the login screen but after typing the password it does the same. If you type the wrong pass it shakes and says bad password so it responds to that but does not login.
If I force a restart, at the login screen it accepts the password and logs in but not after sleep or screen saver. Any ideas? I deactivated the password protected screen saver but it is not a solution, I hope you could help me.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

I'm guessing that it is a regional issue.. try opening store.ovi.com in the browser.. I've not tried the ovi icon recently, but it didn't work a few days ago where as opening that link in the browser did work

Thumbnails do not display when logged in from a second account at the same iMac

Hi,
I am using Lightroom on an iMac with OSX 10.8.2. I have two user accounts. The library is located in a shared users folder, so that either user 1 or user 2 can have access to it (of course not at the same time). The pictures physically reside on an external drive and are recognized as such without any issue.
Here is my problem: Under user 1 everything works perfect. Under user 2 the thumbnails of the pictures are not displayed for some reason. In the develop module user 2 can access the pictures. Nevertheless the thumbnails remain grey.
I have worked in that configuration in LR 3 without any problem. After upgrading to LR 4 the problem started. Upgrading to 4.2 did not solve the problem. Rerendering the thumbnails when logged in as user 2 stalles.
Any help is very much appreciated.

The workaround is to use Lync Web App to share PPTs. You can see the Thumbnails for Powerpoint slides using Lync Web App.

Spinning beach ball when waking up from screen saver or sleep

A few months ago, my ancient (Quicksilver G4) Mac started giving me a spinning beach ball for a few seconds every time I wake it up from sleep or from the screen saver. It lasts anywhere from about 5 to 20 seconds. It never used to do this. The problem has continued despite a recent upgrade form 10.3.9 to 10.4.10. Repairing permissions and resetting PRAM hasn't helped. Any ideas?

Well... I tried many of those things in the search results, and nothing changed initially... i.e. after changing desktop backgrounds (which is all it seemed to take on my mini), and then changing passwords, I continued to not be prompted for my password until I restarted. Logging out might've worked as well, but I just went gung ho and went right for the restart.

Wallpaper differnt when PC resumes from screen saver

Why is it that I have a background i got off the internet and applied to my desktop. But when I resume from screensaver, where you enter your password, the wallpaper is the default green palms wallpaper? How can this be changed?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're using gnome.
This behavior is as designed by the gnome-screensaver dev. One of many choices he has made that don't seem to gel well with users. The easiest way to deal with this is to replace the default gnome background.
If I can remember where the instructions are I'll update my post.

IPhoto not responding when importing photos from Canon Powershot SD450

Recently I have been unable to import photos from my camera. I can see the thumbprints but when I try to import iPhoto hangs and has to be force quit? I am able to take the SD Card and insert it into an SD card reader, so there is no problem with the SD card.
The following message appears in the Console log:

I am able to take the SD Card and insert it into an SD card reader, so there is no problem with the SD card.

A couple of shots in the dark here.
Try this, start in safe mode and see if it will go. Power it off, power it on holding the shift key, continue to hold the key till you see a progress BAR, then release and see if it will finish booting. If it does login see if thigs work, then log out and try booting normally. (NOTE that this takes considerably longer,be patient)
Another thing you can try is powering it up holding the OPTION key and see if the start up manager brings your HD up on the screen, if it does click on that and see.

I found a solution to my problem.

> accessories,
> right click on the command prompt icon and choose "run as administrator".
Once it opens, type in the following command...
netsh winsock reset
hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

Access 2010 on 64 Bit Windows 7 Access "Not Responding" when changing from forms view to design view and back

Access 2010 32 bit
Developing an application with a split FE BE with both files local but continue to have the message "Not Responding" when switching from forms view to design view and back as well as if I try to connect to a subform or object on the sub form.

I have seen this behavior when the form's RecordSource is a complex query such as a crosstab or a query with several nested queries. To test if this is your case, remove the RecordSource and see if the form starts acting normal again.
Then again, if the form has several subforms they might be slowing up the loading time.
