10.9 Installed, recovery is 10.8.4

Hello. I am running 10.9 Mavericks, but my recovery partition shows 10.8.4. How can I upgrade it to 10.9? Is it possible without a disk wipe? What is the procedure?
Thanks all.

Thanks for your insight JimHess.  Someone else on another post pointed out how Photoshop changes the color profile and other things and then trying to make this file into a DNG again confuses Mavericks (and, presumably, other flavors of OS X).  Admittedly, the process I described is unorthodox and not what may want to do.  Thank you.
A.J.: First, I am offended by your suggestion to omit my comment.  I was simply trying to provide help in finding a cause of a general problem people are having across the internet.  That problem, as you pointed out, is that modifying a DNG in some way in photoshop results in the thumbnail no longer being visible.  Your modification is the size.  Mine was not.  But it was a general modification in photoshop and an attempt to reconstitute the file as a DNG that seems to be common theme, whether this workflow makes sense or not.  Additionally, I'm very new to digital photography and tried to be helpful.  I would advise you (as an educator who knows the consequences of negative first-time experiences) to be more mindful that not everyone on here is as experienced as you and everyone can benefit from being clearer in their questions and their comments.
Second, as JimHess pointed out, in manipulating a DNG file in any of the programs in a way that alters the actual file (not changing some setting that is ultimately stored in a side-car file or does not actually alter the photo) is probably the root of the problem.  Changing the file size by altering pixel count may first require one of your adobe products to physically alter the file information in a way that stops Mavericks from being able to recognize the contents as RAW information.  Does this make sense?
Best regards,
Robert

Changing the partitioning of the hdd usually breaks the Recovery function. That is why you should always burn your Recovery DVD set or create USB Flash Recovery before making any changes.
If you did not make a Recovery set, you will need to contact HP Support to order Recovery Media. Worldwide contact info can be accessed here>>Contact HP

  • Installing recovery catalog!!

    hello,
can anybody tell that how to install recovery
    catalog on oracle8i?

    Hi,
Here is the procedure for creating RMAN catalog:
    Installing RMAN Catalog:
Install the recovery catalog schema in a different database (say RCAT) from the target database you will be backing up.
Assume the following for the examples below:
User SYS with password CHANGE_ON_INSTALL has SYSDBA privileges on the recovery catalog database RCAT.
There is a tablespace called CATTBS on the recovery catalog database RCAT that stores the recovery catalog.
There is a tablespace called TEMP in the recovery catalog database.
To set up the recovery catalog schema:
Start SQL*Plus and then connect with administrator privileges to the database containing the recovery catalog (RCAT). For example, enter:
    SQL> CONNECT sys/change_on_install@rcat
Create a log file that you can use to check for errors. For example, enter:
    SQL> SPOOL create_rman.log
Create a user and schema for the recovery catalog. For example, enter:
SQL> CREATE USER rman IDENTIFIED BY rman
    2> TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp
    3> DEFAULT TABLESPACE cattbs
    4> QUOTA UNLIMITED ON cattbs;
Grant the RECOVERY_CATALOG_OWNER role to the schema owner. This role provides the user with privileges to maintain and query the recovery catalog.
    SQL> GRANT recovery_catalog_owner TO rman;
Grant other desired privileges to the RMAN user.
    SQL> GRANT connect, resource TO rman;
Host out to the operating system to check the create_rman.log file for any errors before continuing. For example, a UNIX user can issue:
    SQL> host
    % vi create_rman.log
    To create the recovery catalog:
Connect to the database that will contain the catalog as the catalog owner. For example, from the operating system command line enter:
    % rman catalog rman/rman@rcat
You can also connect from the RMAN prompt:
    % rman
    RMAN> connect catalog rman/rman@rcat
Issue the create catalog command to create the catalog, specifying the CATTBS tablespace:
    RMAN> create catalog tablespace cattbs;
Note that the creation of the catalog can take several minutes.
Host out to the operating system to check the create_rman.log file for any errors before continuing. For example, a UNIX user can issue:
    RMAN> host;
    % vi create_rman.log
Optionally, query the recovery catalog to see which tables were created:
    SQL> SELECT table_name FROM user_tables;
Note: Database name, SYS password, tablespace names are for examples only. You can name change them.
    You all set!!!! Good luck.

  • Installing recovery HD accidentally deleted all my files on External Hard Drive - How do I get back??

I am preparing my mac for selling, and I wanted to keep mountain lion on it, so I tried to install Recovery HD. however I accidentally clicked yes when it said it will delete from the external hard drive. So now all the files I had saved on there, including all my songs, are gone. I can't use time Machine because my time machine backups were on that hard drive. Someone please help me!!

If you erased that hard drive accidentally, there's not much you can do to easily recover. You can try some recovery utilities, like Data Rescue or File Salvage. The results are not likely to be pretty, as you will have lost the entire directory structure.
For the future, one set of backups is not enough, for precisely this kind of reason. Also, storing other data on the same drive as your backups is a similarly bad idea. Maintain a minimum of two separate backups, on two completely separate physical devices, and do not put any other data on any of those backup drives.

  • Hard Drive Replacement - Installing Recovery Discs

Hard drive crashed. Bought a new seagate 500g and installed. Ordered recovery discs for win 7 from lenovo. Four discs received - 1) startup recovery 2) operating system 3) drivers and applications 4) additional recovery disc. I power up the pc with disc 1 in. Message at the bottom of the screen that files are loading along with the white progress bar. Looking good to this point. When the progress bar is full it just stops and does nothing else. Does not prompt me to do anything else. If I wait 3 or 4 minutes the starting windows message appears. It just hangs there. If I wait another 3 or 4 minutes the entire process starts all over. If left alone it would go through that cycle all day. I am never prompted to do anything else. I have tried inserting disc 2 at all points along the way when disc 1 stops. I have tried booting up with disc 2 in. I get a message of operating system not found (of course because disc 2 is the os and it hasn't installed yet). I cannot get beyond disc 1 loading files. Need some support before I do something crazy like go to the geek squad.

LAPTOP CODE A30 (PSA30E)14MONTHS OLD WAS WORKING OK SOMETIMES SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE BECAUSE GENERIC HOST HAD ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM ... RECOVERY DISCS DONT SEEM SCRATCHED CAN ANYONE HELP ?????????

    Hi 6sixs
You probably have some problem with your discs or Optical drive. The best you can do now is try to find out where the problem resides.
The simplest (I think) way to do this is to take the second CD (the one that always produces the error messages) and copy the complete contents to a temporary folder on another machine. Why this? If the CD is defective you will probably see that also on that machine. It will probably stop with an error message saying it can't read the contents of the disc.
In that case you have defective Recovery CD's and need new ones.
If the copy-process works out fine, then probably you have a defective CD-drive in your notebook.
    Good luck

  • Can't Install Recovery Media To New Hard drive

To begin with, I know very little about computers as you will soon see. I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE L650-ST3NX1 which started giving me a message from both Toshiba and Windows that I needed to back up my data because of a possible hard drive failure. I tried backing up my data to an external hard drive but that failed. (I do have a backup of my hard drive from last year).I ordered a new SSD and the Recovery Media from Toshiba. I assumed that I could just load the OS from the Recovery Media onto the new SSD but found that wouldn't work. I ran the Recovery Media on the old hard drive but it wouldn't complete. I tried erasing everything off the old hard drive but that also wouldn't complete. Now when I plug the USB Recovery Median into the computer it won't recognize it. I think I've probably done just about everything wrong that I could. Am I out of options? Did I just waste my money on a new SSD and the Recovery Media?

So, a little more info on what's going on. I installed a new SSD, ran the Recovery Media USB, and recieved the error F3-F100-0003. Went into the Utility Setup and HDD/SDD shows NONE. I assume this means that no hard drive is being recognized. When I reinstalled the failed HDD and went back into Utility Setup, it was recognized. Can Toshiba Recovery Media be loaded onto a new HDD/SDD? I've been researching this online and it seems that quite a few people have had the same problem but it seems that no one associated with Toshiba can or wants to provide any answers. When I spoke with a Toshiba representative before purchasing the Recovery Media I was assured that I would be able to install it onto a new HDD/SDD. It seems that if Toshiba is going to sell SSD's and Recovery Media they should be informed about and support what they are selling. This is pretty frustrating and $$$.

  • How to install Recovery Catalog

    Hi:
How to install the recovery catalog? I used the following commands from the menu and it didn't work:
    connect rman/rman
    @?/rdbms/admin/catrman
    There is no catrman.sql exists.
    Thank you very much.

If you are using Oracle8i, make sure your compatibility is set to at least 8.1.0 and you are connected to the catalog database. Then type create catalog; at the RMAN command line.

  • How to install recovery image on Satellite 5200 using USB DVD drive

    Hello,
I have this problem with a Satellite 5200-902 that has the DVD-ROM corrupt and I don't find the part to change. (model DVD: uj-810b)
But I would like to reinstall the notebook with the CD recovery and I don't be able to enter in the BIOS for change the boot order and start with a USB DVD-ROM.

When turn on I press F2-F10-F12 but if I select another peripheral for boot the notebook start only by network.
Can you help me to recover this notebook by an external USB DVD-ROM?
    Thanks
    Andrea

I have an usb floppy drive model ibm TEAC FD05pub, I think it's incompatible or the notebook don't has the power in the usb port because the led of the floppy is of.
When I tried to press ESC + F1 in the bios I set only the date and the password but no the boot order and other function.
I really do not know what to do and how to solve.

  • Installing recovery

I am installing windows recovery setting and computers in windows set up mode right now. During set up it has screen to restart but mouse is not working.Does in complete setup without me touching anything until set up is complete. This is my first time using recovery disc on new hard drive. Thanks

Solution is to WAIT 10 seconds, ensure that the disc in the tray presently has no light shown, before clicking the OK button. Have the next disc ready to insert once the tray is ejected.  Works everytime I did it.

  • Install recovery that is not available in Egypt to laptop model bought from USA

My sister bought to me laptop from USA as she live there. She bought model no:
    Pavilion dm4-3050 us Entertainment PC
In the beginning, I seek help from computer technician to create partitions for windows 7 so he formats the hard drive. This is the beginning of the problem. After several months the windows 7 became unresponsive and very slow, so I seek help from the same person. He removed the windows 7 and tried to install another one but all his attempts failed. Since that time my laptop didn't work.
I used HP website to know the cause of this problem. I knew that there is recovery manager and I should have to make refresh or reinstall this recovery but I do not know that before. I hardly reached to HP technical support in Middle East. They guide me to HP service centers in Egypt but all these centers very stupid and helpful because they said that the recovery of this model unavailable with them because my laptop model not available in Middle East. When I come back to HP technical support in Middle East, they said to me to come back to service centers again as they can make contacts with HP technical support in USA and get the recovery of this model but they refused. Accordingly HP technical support in Middle East solve this problem by advice me to return my laptop to USA.
My laptop did not work for 4 months because of mainly my mistake and stupidity and lack of cooperation of HP technical support in Middle East and HP service centers in Egypt.
Please help me as soon as possible.

1- I try to make this order but it is not appear that it is order for recovery media but the title of the order is "order software and driver media" Is that right?  YES, that is correct... "Order software and driver media" is the HP Recovery Media.
2- when my sister send the recovery media for me is it easy to install it?  YES, it is easy to install... Please see HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) for instructions on using the media.

  • Integrated Webcam/Mic not detected after re-instal/recovery of windows 7

HP Pavilion dv7, Product number: A6X02UA#ABA
So... After recovering windows and installing the minimum recovery image (No extra junk or files)  I have a squeaky clean computer with the bare minimum on it.  Everything is working great, Until I installed Skype and found I have no integrated webcam, or mic anymore.   In the Device Manager, There is no imaging devices.  It also says ALL drivers installed are up to date.
I have read everyone’s answer that "if its not in the device manager, its a hardware problem i.e. the short cable that comes unplugged behind the screen"   But it is impossible... or at least 99.9% improbable.  As I used Skype successfully prior to the reinstall of windows 7, and did not move the computer, close/open the screen, unplug, or even sneeze on this thing since last using the camera and mic. The only thing that has changed was the windows recovery.  So far everything else works great. Even the Biometrics device. Why not the cam or mic?

    Hello Nostopin,
I'll posted the link as an example of how to find a hardware ID in general.
However if you cannot find the webcam in the device manager which sounds strange to me if it was working correctly before, then there is no way to install drivers for it because windows does not recognise the hardware.
Believe me that I would like to give you a working driver but I cannot give you one simply because I have no hardware ID.
As far as I know there are three options now.
    1 The hardware is broken
2 You didn't see the hardware ID (Which I doubt after your story.)
    3 this video http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02452221&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N70
In my opinon there are no other options with the information I currently have.

  • Canot install recovery image on Satellite L775-140

    Hi everyone,
I have a Satellite L775-140. I decided to restore my notebook to factory settings so Ive created 4 CDs using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator tool.
However, when I put the first CD, after a few minutes, there was a error:
    diskpart successfully formatted the volume.
    copy files recovery bases
    htmprep ...
    boot ...
establishment file error - data error (cyclic redundancy check)
error: copying of files based recovery failed!
press any key to continue. . .
What to do? Knowing that I have these recovery CDs, is there a way around how to install it?
Could anyone help me? Generally speaking I have several problems but I have not found an answer or find the same situation as me.
    Thank you for your help
Message was edited: posting has been translated

    Hi
    > error: copying of files based recovery failed!
The problem seems to appear while copying the files from disk to HDD.
I think Dr. Lamp might be right: either its a problem with the recovery cd or HDD.
    Solution proposal:
You have to find out the troublemaker. In your case I would recommend you to boot from another disk (Microsoft Windows disk or maybe Linux) just to check if the HDD is OK.
You can also check the HDD using the Open Source software called Gparted.
    http://gparted.org/liveusb.php
Create USB live CD and boot the notebook. This tool allows you to check the HDD and to manage the partitions.
In case the HDD is OK, the created recovery disk could be faulty and this would require new recovery disks. If you cannot create the disk again, there is an website where you could order such medium from Arvato http://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

  • New user prompt when installing recovery image

I'm deploying an Oobe image of Windows 7 home prem. and also a recovery partition with the same Oobe image.
When re-installing windows from the recovery partition (starting the recovery from windows) i get promtped to input a name for a new user. This does not happen when applying the image manually from WinPE.
I know this is not much infomation, but I am not sure what infomations is needed så please ask and I will add it to this post.

If your image has a staged answer file from sysprep from prior to capture, the reason would be because setup.exe ignores it. In order to get Setup.exe to install an image using an answer file, you'll need to customize windowsRE. See the following link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744576%28WS.10%29.aspx
You can add your custom tool to run setup.exe with the /unattend switch.

  • Cannot install recovery image on my Equium after HDD upgrade

    Hi
I just installed a new hard drive to my Toshiba Equium laptop I contacted Toshiba who informed me I could fit up to 1TB I opted for half way with a 500GB.
After installing the drive I inserted recovery disk after a while it had loaded with the message operation completed successfully. Next message windows set up could not configure windows to run on this computers hard ware. Then windows could not complete the installation to install windows on this computer restart the installation...
At the end of the recovery process a message tells me to remove recovery disk and exit as soon as I exit laptop shuts down and doesnt re boot automatically. When restarted next message windows Vista is starting for the first time then the cycle starts again. I have tried to reload recovery several times as instructed but no good.
    Any help much appreciated

I dont know which notebook model do you have but if recovery image is Vista it must be pretty old model, maybe Equium A200.
To be honest I didn't make experiments with HDD upgrade on older models but I can imagine recovery image make a problems with HDDs with huge capacity.
Post please model name and which HDD have you inside now.
By the way: if possible try to install Win7 using Microsoft installation disc. Im sure it will works without any problem.
