10 gig xceiver in Sup V 10Ge Sup Engine

I am using an X2-10GB-LR 10 gigabit singlemode xceiver in a Sup V 10GE engine. I am getting low levels across my link. I would like to know if there is any means of optimizing the optics. Via software or otherwise. I have verified that I am transmitting at a level well within the Cisco documented acceptable range, but it would be very helpful if I could tweak it to be as close to the max level as possible.
Presently I cannot find where I could do that or any documentation that supports the ability to do that.
Thanks in advance

  • Cisco 4506 Sup Engine IV

I have a cisco 4506 with supervisor Engine IV.Initially when i put the switch on the supervisor engine light turns orange.after some diagnosis i found out that one of the fans on the power supply wasnt functioning properly.when i remove this power supply and power the switch the sup engine turns green. However the ethernet interfaces and gigabit ethernet interfaces on the line card r down no traffic is being processed on the switch.what could be the problem. Is there a way u should configure the 4506 to process packets

    Hi Kwak,
Oki now let us resolve it!!!
Yes by default all the ports are into vlan 1 so it depends if you want to assign the ports into any other vlan you have to create vlan first. But ports will remain in down down state till the the time you connect any network device to it. Can you please confirm if you have connected any device like workstation or any other device to any port.
All the ports remain in down down state if they are not active.
Try to connect some device it should work

  • WS-X6748-GE-TX sup engine?

We have a 6509 with a 4000W power supply, a high speed fan and a s2-pfc2 running catos 8.4.2. The 6748 is being denied power because it is not recognized. We tried another sup engine with ios 12.1(27), it recognized the card but said it was incompatible and denied power. Software Advisor recomends 8.1 or 12.1(26) as the minimum required releases for the card. What else have we not tried? Information has been hard to find as to what sup engine it needs to run, but the Software Advisor accepted our config.

I see that you are using a Sup 2. The 6748 is designed for use only with a Sup 720. See here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_data_sheet0900aecd8017376e.html

  • Cisco 4006 & 4506 sup engine

    Hi,
My existing 4006 chassis is using Supervisor III (WS-X4014).
I have another 4506 chassis using Supervisor IV (WS-X4515) and a Netflow Services Card (WS-F4531) build on top of it.
I need Netflow Services Card in 4006, so can I just replace the Supervisor IV (WS-X4515) used in cisco 4006? Is it compatible with 4006?
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    HowYee

    hi HowYee,
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps4324/product_data_sheet0900aecd8035cf2b.html
according to that document, it is not possible if you want to put supIV to 4006 chassis
    Chassis and Line-Card Support
You  can deploy the supervisor engine IV in single-chassis nonredundant mode  in the Cisco Catalyst 4503, 4503-E, 4506, and 4506-E chassis. You can  also deploy it in single-chassis redundant mode as an option in the  Cisco Catalyst 4507R chassis (slots 1 and 2 only) and Cisco Catalyst  4507R-E/4507R+E chassis (slots 3 and 4).
The  supervisor engine IV is compatible with the classic Cisco Catalyst 4500  and the E-series Cisco Catalyst 4500 Line Cards. Table 1 gives  performance information for the Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor  Engine IV.

Hey I'm bout to install a 6500 series with 2 SUP engines, one for primary and one for backup in the same chassis.
My question is: Do the fiber/GIG ports on the backup SUP engine work, when it is in backup mode, or ONLY when the SUP engine is in primary mode???

    Hi Chris,
The gig ports on the standby supervisor are absolutely functional, and the converse is true in the event of a switchover.
    Documented here:

  • Difference between PRP and SUP

Can anyone help me to differentiate between Sup engine used for 7600 router and PRP (Route processor) used for GSR. Just for my knowledge

A scalable cluster is usually associated with HPC clusters but some might argue that Oracle RAC is this type of cluster. Where the workload can be divided up and sent to many compute nodes. Usually used for a vectored workload.
A failover cluster is where a standby system or systems are available to take the workload when needed. Usually used for scalar workloads.

  • 10 Gig ports in Sup6L-E

    Hi All,
I am having two sup6l-e sup engines in redundancy mode. I have connected the uplink to nexus switch from 3:1 and 4:1 . And somehow now 4:1 is not working . Hence I want to use 4:2 . But it is showing as inactive. How to make that port active?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Those ports will not be active as you have redundant supervisors and there is no way to just active them, is part of the restrictions on redundant mode.

  • Need help on network design

    Hi guys.
Looking for some advice on a network design.
Please tell me what you think may or may not be wrong or missing.
    Here are the details:
The user count is approximately 600 (desktops, laptops and Cisco IP phones) with two locations (office and data center) connected via 100Mbps guaranteed MAN line with site-to-site VPN as backup.
Servers will all be in the Data Center.
Edge routers to be used as site-to-site VPN connection point between office and data center.
Edge router at data center also to be used to connect to 4 other remote sites.
Edge networks (router and ASA) will be used to provide internet access to equipment at their respective locations. (No routing across MAN for internet access)
Cisco 4510 to be used as user switches.
Supervisor engines will be connected via 10G fiber to core switches.
There will be 2x 10G connection for each supervisor module.
Core switches are 4500x to be stacked via VSS using 10G Twinax cables.
Core switch will also have 1G copper sfp to connect to MAN line hand-off.
There will also be a physically (for the most part) segregated network using 3750x
switches that connect back to the core. We will use 1G Fiber connections.
Here is the current kit list:

A 39xx is underpowered if you want to support gig VPN tunnel.
If your MAN is 100 Mbps (possibly "light" for 600 users), I would suggest running your port at 100 Mbps, not gig.  (This because LAN switches don't shape, and may not be able to "see" congestion or drops within the MAN.)
You user edge (the 4500s) will be L2 or L3.  If the latter, I would recommend not using a VSS core.
I would recommend not using the same Internet connection for both general Internet access and VPN.

  • Un-accounted hard drive usage

My Backup Hard drive keeps filling to capacity and my ststem drive grows in usage:
    Hardware/Software description;
    Mac G4 Dual Processor
    OS 10.4.11
System hard drive 142.93 Gig Used space is 78.02 Gig
Backup hard drive (USB) 76 gig Backup Software Super Duper
About 2 weeks ago, when doing a backup, Tech Tool Pro 5 reported that the backup hard drive had only 2% space available. I purged a lot of no longer needed files/pictures, cache, internet files etc on my system hard drive. The result was now 48.76 gigs used. Wanting to do a complete backup, I formatted the backup USB hard drive and then did a complete backup. The result was that the backup hard drive showed 48.76 gigs, the same as the system drive.
Now roughly 2 weeks later I went to do a backup and Tech Tool 5 reported once again only 2% space available or 76 gigs used space on the backup hard drive.
Tonight I used 'Finder' then 'Get Info' on the system drive. It reported 78.02 Gigs.
I then did the same on the backup drive. It reported 76 gigs used.
Now here is the problem. In the past 2 weeks, I have not added any applications. I have not downloaded any pictures, I have not done anything to add significant files to the hard drive. My usage has been reading/sending email and reading a few forums I follow. So where did the extra 27.24 gigs of used space come from.
Tonight, using 'Finder' then 'Get Info' I clicked on each folder on my system drive and added up the size of each and every folder. My total was 58.39 Gigs, Yet
'Finder' and 'Get Info' shows my system hard drive as having 78.02 gigs. This time I have a difference of 19.63 gigs between Finder and Get Info on the system drive compared actual hand add of all space used.
What is filling up may hard drive and then filling up my back up hard drive when I do backups.
    Thank You
    Paul

Is there any way to do a BLANKET clean of the log files, or do you have to do a clean on each log file ?
Is there any other hidden files I should clean or erase that accumulate over time and steal disk space ?
Best way is to get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files!
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
It's a pretty small download Paul.
Is the App Omnidisksweeper designed to totally remove all unused files etc from my HD ?
Nope, you can delete things from within it, but mostly to find where it is the Disk space is used up.

  • 4500E Supervisor Engine 8-E Uplinks

    Hi,
Please I want to find out if it is possible to use all uplinks ports on the 8 port Sup8-E modules configured as a redundant pair on a single 4510R+E chassis?
I noticed that only 4 ports are active on each sup8-E modules (making it a total of 8 ports) but I will like to use all 16 uplink ports on both modules.
The chassis is licensed for entservices and the current ios is Cisco IOS XE Release 3.3.0XO(15.1(1)XO).
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    Josh.

    Hello,
you can 4x 1/10Giga ports per SUP when you have 2 SUPs in a 4510R+E...but it seems that if you have a 4507R+E you can have only 2x 1/10 Giga ports per SUP
See Table High-Availability, Uplink and Wireless Options for Supervisor Engine 8-E in http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-4500-series-switches/data_sheet_c78-728191.html
It will be possible in future to not have this limitation?!?

  • SCCM Software Update's / ADR questions

    Hello Technet/SCCM community,
after much scratching of the ol' noggin and lots of internet searches I have been left with a handful of questions regarding SCCM 2012 SP1 and its Software Update Point functionality with emphasis on Automatic Deployment Rules.
1.When creating an ADR if one ADR's updates are the same as another ADR's updates how can we avoid storing/downloading duplicates? Can I store the updates in the same folder and will SCCM be smart enough to share the updates rather than having two copies?
note: one way around the above would be to separate updates into different ADR's, here is my issue with this method: lets say I have one ADR for Win7 updates and one for Office2013/Silverlight etc. Now Im deploying multiple packages to machines causes a
larger update window and possible multiple restarts. So lets say I suppress the restarts, well when users get around to it they will still see the updates being applied and per our policy we have one window to push these and when we wander from the norm users
minds break. i.e. I don't want multiple ADR's deployed to the machines a month and I do not want to suppress restarts.
    2. Is there no way to only download the metadata of these updates? Currently updates for my environment are eating up 80 gigs of hard drive space. 40 gigs to the download location which then gets duplicated to the content library which sets me up for my
next question: Why are these updates in both locations essentially doubling the HD space you need for updates. My content library grows gig for gig with my SUP updates store.
    3. Scenario: I deploy updates month 1, 100 updates are downloaded and deployed and update group entry is created. Next month I deploy again this time 50 updates are downloaded and deployed, update group 2 created. Questions: Now if I delete update group
1 and do not have a date released or revised rule will the next deploy grab update group 1's updates again? In other words should I always leave the update groups in SCCM so it knows what updates have been deployed and wont download those updates again. And
finally if I should leave the update groups can I still delete the updates from the folder freeing up space but still allowing SCCM to know whats been deployed?
    4. Does anyone have an essential Windows 7 workstation updates ADR build they can share. For Workstations I like to deploy everything they need in one ADR, Office 2013, Silverlight, SCEP, and WIN7. So far Ive never come close to the 1000 limit. Server ADR's
    are a different story.
    MichaelSpaulding

I appreciate your clarification of an ADR, I understand what it does and doesn't do, I'm simply using the term ADR to cover the subjects I'm discussing.
This piece of your response answers my questions in full and is very helpful.
"You can use the "Period of time for which all pending deployments with deadline in this time will also
be installed" setting on the Software Updates tab to group deployments together that have slightly different deadline times; however, Office 2013 and SCEP updates generally don't require a reboot."
I had previously set the deadline/restart window to "as soon as possible", I will utilize
the above to resolve my issues with my ADR deployments and I will also use the below for how I group updates.
"I generally configure an ADR for all workstation OS updates, one for Office, one for Server updates,
and one for SCEP. These all reference the exact same update package which I then change on a periodic basis like every 6-12 months. I also create new update groups month for each of these (except SCEP defs)."
    Thanks great stuff Jason:)

  • 6513-E chassis issue

I have 6513-E chassis in which i have installed 2 "WS-SUP32-10GE-3B" supervisor modules. But when i power on the switch the sup engine crashes.
Same sup engine is working on 6509-E chassis.
I have checked on Cisco site this sup engine is supported on 6513-E switch.
IOS installed in the sup engine is "sup-bootdisk:s3223-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI.bin".
Can anyone tell me what will be the issue?
    Is it IOS issue?
When we will connect 2 chassis in VSS if the IOS available on both the sup engine is different can this create any problem?

Try loading a different IOS version.  If that does not help try moving the sup to a different slot and if that does not help the problem is the Sup.

  • Want any info on MacBook before I buy

    Hi all!!!
I would like to know from all of you if there ANY issues (hardware) that I should be aware of before
I buy a MacBook. I'm planing to get the 2.2ghz with Superdrive but I'm wondering if the white plastic goes yellowish because of the heat and does the trackpad easy to clean. I would like to get the black one but gee I can get a white one with an upgraded 160gig HD for less than the black one but I just find the black one so nice though..... So please any comments would be welcomed before I buy!!!
    Thanks!!!!

If you plan on purchasing from the walk-in store, then I would get the $1299 model with the 120G HDD and 1 G of RAM and upgrade those yourself. You will get the most bang and save a handful of $$$.
If you are going to purchase from online store, you need to know that with the 14-day return policy, if you decide to return it, you must return it to the Online Store.
That being said, the first paragraph still holds true.
I personally purchased mine Online and did the upgrades myself. Mine did suffer from what is now called RSD syndrome, where it would just shutdown with no prior indications. Got that repaired August2006 and have not had any other issues. Once that was fixed, I went ahaed and ordered and installed 2 Gigs of RAM (super easy). I didn't do the HDD for something like a year, but that gave me enough time to really get to know how it works and get comfortable using it.
Good Luck and looking forward to hearing what you decide to get.
