10 min ftp time out!! help!!

This is a fairly old story, it begins around 2004 – 05 ish…
For over two years, two different linksys wrt54g routers (v5 & v6), and 3 different cable providers I have continually had the same problem; ftp sessions beyond my local network constantly time out during file transfers at exactly 9 minutes and 59 seconds. This timeout occurs every single time no matter what. I have tried multitudes of different ftp softwares, several different computers as well as four different operating systems. (win 98, XP, mac OS, & vista) I also run a ftp server to share files among my friends both on and off my local network. People who connect to me do not have this time out problem as long as my server runs on port 21 and only 21 (any other port and my friends have the 9:59 time out too). For clarity’s sake let me repeat; ftp problem only occurs from sessions where one of my computers is a client and not a host. Also please note the time out will happen on any port. Because of said fact, this leads me to only one possible conclusion all wrt54g’s have lousy ftp support...!
I hope that there is something I have missed; should I toss in the towel and buy a third, new router of a different manufacturer this time or is there still hope? Please note: aside from the constant ftp time out issue, the wrt54g works pretty well and has always been reliable for every other task. (ftp, usenet, pop3 e-mail, p2p, http, etc…)
Some info about my network:
I am using a linksys WRT54G v5 wireless router with firmware version 1.00.9
My ISP is a 10/100 cable.
I have all router firewall stuff turned off and have DMZ bound to the computer that hosts ftp server. Now I know this makes my network a bit hacker friendly, but these are the only settings that allow people to ftp from me with out time out.
Well that’s about it, if you have read this far then, please, have a great day!

Ok I have connected a windows XP and then a windows Vista machine diretly to my cable modem and I must report no ftp problem at all. I was able to download a huge file on my first try (XP) with no disconnects, entire transfer took 3 hours.
Please note: I have installed the latest firmware on my wrt54g, (1.02.2) and once sucessfully "flashed" I reverted my router back to factory defaults and then re-put my orgional settings in and still must report nojoy.
This is nothing new, I have been trying to resolve this issue for about 1-1/2 to 2 years now. The only reason that I have not switched to a different router is because I like the wrt54gv5 easy setup and good stable performance(port time-out problem aside).
In conclusion let me just state, I don't think there is anything "wrong" with my wrt54gv5. I believe the routers are programmed to drop ports after 10 mins as a safty precaution, I just want to bring light to this issue, and to plead my case to linksys that they make future wrt54g firmware that will allow one to change the interval or disable port time out feaure all together. I don't ftp much anymore as a result of this router's performance, however wrt54gv5 works really great for all other applications that I use it for.
Have a great day!

  • FTP Time Out - Cannot Open Remote Folder

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and windows Vista.  I have set-up site definition (with user id and password) and used to be able to connect to the remote server, open remote folders, and upload and download files using Dreamweaver.  However, all of sudden I cannot open the host directory remote folder where all of my website information are, It just times out.  I can connect to the server, if I don't specify the host directory.  I changed FTP time out in dreamwever to increase ftp time, but still it times out.  I used to be able to open the host directory without any problem, and I have not changed any information in site definition. I have tried to use fireFTP, and I can connect to the server but cannot open the the host directory, same as in Dreamweaver.
Other pople working on the same website, with same site definition with the same user name and password can connect and open the same host directory remote folder using Dreamweaver on their pcs without any problem.  So it seems like the problem is with my pc or Dreamweaver setting, even though I have not changed any settings.
Does anyone know what would be causing this problem and how I can resolve this issue?  Thanks.

I found out that the remote folder which I can't open (host directory) contains many wmv video files, which might be causing the problem of timing out using Dreamweaver on my PC.  Other people can open the same folder using their Dreamweaver on their PCs.
I can connect to another remote server and open all the folders in Dreamweaver without any problems.
Is there any settings I can change in Dreamweaver or on PCs to resolve this issue, or any other suggestions?  Thanks.

  • HP Mini Netbook times out when trying to update to iOS 5

Why does my HP Mini Netbook time out after one or two hours when I'm trying to upgrade to iOS 5 on my 3G iphone? Is the upgrade too large for my phone?

Disable any firewall and antivirus software while you download and update.

  • Ftp time out

when transfering a file to an ftp site, it appears final cut server first touches a new file on a remote ftp site, then encodes the source file, then starts uploading. this causes the connection to the ftp server to time out if the encoding takes a long time.
unfortunately, i cannot change the timeout setting on the remote ftp server (not my server). anyone know how to prevent this? anyone know what fcs is using to upload via ftp? is there maybe a config file in the os where i can set a "keep alive" value?
    d.

No, but I can give you a workaround:
Instead of having a copy response encode to the FTP device, create a local watcher that you can set as the destination for your transcoding copy response. Be sure to wildcard exclude "fcsvr*" so that the watcher does not grab the file before it has been given its final name. On the watcher, apply a copy response with no transcode option followed by a delete response.
If you are triggering a subscription on an existing asset to get this whole ball rolling, I also recommend adding a script response to the subscription stack after the transcode copy response. Make it do this:
    Command path = mv
    Parameters = "/<path to local watcher>/\[Title].mov" "/<path to local watcher>/\[Asset ID].mov"
Include the quotes when you set the parameters, they are important. This response will rename your transcoded movie with a unique integer instead of the potentially FTP-unfriendly asset title value that is the default for copy responses. Of course, if your transcode makes something other than a .mov, adjust the parameters above for the file type suffix your transcode produces.

  • Cannot connect photosmart7520 to the web services. times out. help please?

Trying to connect to Web Services but times out. Configuration page suggests no internet connectivity although network modem/router is connected to the internet. Printer prints ok wirelessly through the network.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Let's set a static IP address and external DNS for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

  • Downloading "Times Out" *** HELP ***

    HelloHello,
I’m sorry but I am not very technical minded, but…..
I have had my iPhone 4 for about a week now, when I plug it in to iTunes, it states I have an update ready and starts’ downloading….which is great.
Until 20 minuets later the download completes but states it “timed out” and unable to complete.
I have tried to complete this 4 times now and each time it does it. I have also updated to iTunes 10 as I thought that was the problem.
    Please help me!!

Guys is there a way we can get the IOS 4.1 in a CD or can it be downloaded without iTunes? The problem I am facing is the 4.1 update is about 589MB and my internet connection speed *****, it fails after downloading 400MB-450MB. I tried about 3 times now and getting frustrated. Also if I click on resume in iTunes (version 10) the download shrinks to zero and when resumed starts from first. What is the point in having pause option in iTunes downloads?

  • Is there any time out in a Data Federation connection?

    Hi,
I have a multi source universe on SQL Server and BW, the query against SQL Server times out exactly after 10 mins, the time out setting in the universe connection and database have been bumped to 30 min but my query still times out after 10 mins, I looked into to connector configuration under DataFederation connection but there is no timeout setting for a sql server connection.
Any thoughts why my query is timing out?
    Thanks
    Ram

I got this issue fixed by changing the query time out setting to FALSE in the sql server sbo file. I am sill not sure where where can we change the time out limit from 10 mins to higher number.

  • Mac mini times out internal requests

My mac mini (previous gen.) 2.26ghz running 10.6.4 times out connection requests on my local wireless from the following things:
    AppleTV ("old," 40gb)
Remote iphone (4g)/ipad (16gb, WiFi) app
    RemoteHD ipad app
I can link the mini to the ATV but am neither able to sync the Apple tv to the mini (port 3689!) nor can I stream media to the ATV from the mini (apple tv cannot connect). Both RemoteHD and Apple remote ipod/iphone apps timeout. I am able to set the remote app up initially but the connection times out when I try to load the library. The mini is connected via ethernet to Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n base station and the ATV is connected via wireless.
I can, however, get my media through Orb sharing (web based with local host) and set up a working remote connection with RemoteHD using its local port mapping wizard. I can also load the library to the MBP through iTunes sharing and share the mini screen through MobileMe's back to my mac.
On, with incoming connections allowed, or off, the firewall on the mini makes no difference.
I do have my library stored on external media. I noticed some posts suggesting that might be the problem. Based on the issue with RemoteHD, I don't think it's that simple. I need to find a fix anyway because my library exceeds the capacity of the mini.
I haven't monkeyed with any Airport based port mapping or anything because all functions worked fine with a g4 desktop (which also served the media from external drives) and currently work with my MacBook pro 2.4 ghz also running 10.6.4. The issue is isolated to the mac mini and the local wireless.
In the broad scope, these are minor but perplexing irritations that I'm currently working around. The most inconvenient is the ATV issue followed closely by remote control of iTunes. I'm willing to install something like NoobProof to manage that port problem if necessary, but I'm hoping to suss out exactly what's happening that's prohibiting me connecting via my local wireless so I can solve all issues at once.
If you managed to hang in there, thanks for reading all this and thanks in advance for any assistance and let me know if I can provide any additional information.

  • Error time out to connect FTP server

    Hi Experts,
I am getting the error in receiver communication channel (FTP) as :
An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server ''. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: The control connection to the FTP server ""  timed out while reading the server reply.'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor.
Getting this error for a particular interface. Changed the time out parameter but not working.
the same IP address is used for same receiver but different interface and it is in green status.
tried to restart the adapter but same time out error.
Same configuation is done for two receiver channels .. but getting above error for a particular interface. Please help.
    Thanks,
    Swapnashree

    Hi Swapna,
If you are facing problem with only one interface then you make some dummy changes in configuration(ID) to that perticular channel and activate.
After doing this you just restart your communication channel and check if you have any luck.....
Also check if you have permissions ......for the user and folder which you are accing in your channel...
    Naveen.

  • All is set up ok but when I view a home movie the apple tv reverts to the menu at random times, sometimes every 30 secs or so, sometimes plays for mins before cutting out and then i have to enter menu, go to movies and select the movie then resume play bu

Whwn viewing home movies the movie cuts out back to the general menu at random, forcing me to enter menu again, reselect the movie and hit resume button.
this happens everytime I try to play a movie, maybe after 1 min of play then again after 3 mins, next time it might play for 6 mins then cut out and so on. The macbook pro is not reverting to sleep mode or closing down and the wifi signal is strong. So is the apple tv an expensive load of junk or what?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Mac Mini times out

I'm a newbie to Macs, but a Linux oldie. I bought two of them to get familiar with the system. All has been well until tonight. The Mini will not connect with any server on the 'net. The browser will lookup yahoo.com (so DNS is working, and the wireless link is working), display "Connecting to Yahoo.com", then time out. Email client is the same way -- times out.
I can ping yahoo (or msn or the router), but the connection never gets made. The wireless tools indicate that I am, in fact, connected to the wireless net. Signal strength is quite good. The Macbook has no trouble connecting to the wireless net, and the Mini didn't either til tonight.
Only change in the system was to install a digital cable to the monitor. It's my wife's machine, and she didn't like that, so I've reverted to analog. Didn't work with the digital cable, doesn't work with the analog cable. I've rebooted. Whither now?

Can this timeout period be changed..!? How? This wasnt happenning on the previous software version: 12.3(8)JEB1.
Also, where can I find the online help files for the latest Cisco IOS software? I cant seem to find it on the Cisco website!

Does anyone have any idea on this..!? Its terrible having to login every couple of mins..!

  • I had  to restore my iPad mini. Now when I go to the App Store and tap the cloud to reload some of my apps, it times out and they won't load. Any suggestions?

i had to restore my iPad mini and when I go to the App Store to reload some of my apps it times out and doesnt reload them. Any suggestions?

Close the App Store app and reset your iPad.
Now close all apps. In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
In order to reset your iPad, hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen after which time you can release the buttons and let the iPad start up.
IF that didn't help, try turning WiFi off on your iPad in the Settings, restart the iPad, then turn Wifi on again.

The only way around this is to delete the apps that require the other Apple ID and download them again with yours.
Or simply log out of iTunes & App stores then log in with updated AppleID.
