10 RAC on vmware OEL5 Error

Hi
I am trying to install RAC on vmware (10gr2 , OEL5) using two virtual machines named RAC1 and RAC2
i am able to do ssh rac1 date and ssh rac2 date without password.
But while installing clusterware i get following on the command prompt.

is it normal??? am i missing something.

Yes, SSH equivalence is some thing you will need for clusterware install, operations, any future node additions and any kind of Oracle Home propagation. Get cluvfy's opinion on ssh equivalence, if cluvfy thinks it is working, it will work.
I would certainly run cluvfy before and after clusterware installation. Check out cluvfy documentation for pre crsinst and post crsinst options. Make sure to address all cluvfy errors and warnings before you proceed from each stage to the next stage of your RAC installation.

11g RAC on VMware

Hi,
I am trying to install 2 node, 11g RAC on VMware, the installation went fine on node 1, but node 2 had issues with ASM and DB... The problem is the ASM and DB home installed successfully, but the ASM2 and DB (RAC2) instance are not up on node 2. Actually the ASM1 and RAC2 are not registered in CRS. I will upload the exact error in a short time. While installing I got the error for node-2, that it is unable to find the ASM disks, but when I executed this " /etc/init.d/oracleasm listdisks " on node 2, it shows VOL1,VOL2.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Version - 11g

Hi All,
I have been through all the links you people gave me, those were really helpfull, thanks. The problem is resolved now. Actually the issue was, ASM2 instance could not detect the disks for some reason, after some research in metalink I found a note:457369.1 and as per the note I included *" asm_diskstring = /dev/oracleasm/disks/* "* perameter in the init.ora file of ASM2. Then it detected the diskgroup and everything is fine now. Actually this issue is a bug in 10g, unfortunately it is not fixed in 11g as well.

10g RAC on VMWare Workstation

Hi Folks,
i tried to install 10g RAC on VMWare 4.5.2 for testing.
Hostsystem is XP, ghost system are RedHat-ES-30.
I configured tho 2 nodes with 2 scsi adapters and 2 Network Card and a shared Disk.
I installed ocfs 1.0.12 on both nodes, formated the disk and it seems to be fine.
On the next step ( Installation of CRS ) the runInstaller fails after the node configuration screen with the message:
Oracle Cluster Registry File can only be saved on a shared filesystem file or on a RAW Device.
Any Ideas ?

I checked that and i can't find the Processes or any think else witch is discribed in thr article !
The Installer pops a message during the creation of the ocr file.
Have any body tried it with RAW Devices ?

Oracle-10g RAC on VMware installed on Windows-7(Host)

Hi,
My host OS is Windows-7. Docs. posted on this forum for RAC on VMware says: your Host OS should be Centos OS and in which you will install VMware and Client tools also. In this way u can clone another RAC2 machine.
But I have Oracle VM Virtual Box installed on Windows-7. Another is VMware Player installed on Windows-7.
I want to install Oracle-10g RAC on my Laptop. Please any suggestions or Docs. related to this.

Putting Oracle Apps 11i on 10g RAC using VMware

Hello All,
I am building a Oracle Applications 11i on 10g RAC, using VMware..Since there aren't any docs I could find on internet explaining how to do this, I have come up with my own. I have combined the MEtalink doc:362135.1 and the docs describing building a 10gRAC "database" using VMware..I want to know if the below process is good enough to get the required results:
Steps:
-Install VMware on HOST m/c
-Configure 1st virtual m/c, say RAC1
-Install RHEL on RAC1
-Install 11i with 9i database on the local SCSI bus- SCSI 0:0
-Install VMware client tools
-Create a new ethernet adapter(for private interconnect) on RAC1
-Create shared disks on RAC1
-Partition the disks
-Add the disks as RAW devices in /etc/rawdevices
-Clone RAC1 to a new virtual m/c,say RAC2
-Delete the 11i apps directories from its local SCSI bus..since these would be redundant on RAC2
-Install Clusterware s/w on RAC1 using the same oraInventory that is used by the Applications 11i installation-
-Install the 10g DB software and create ASM instances using dbca
-Install Database componenets from 10g companion CD
-Upgrade CRS abd DB s/w to 10.2.0.4
-Upgrade the 9i database to 10g using dbua from the 10g ORACLE_HOME
-Convert the newly upgraded 10g databse to RAC using the rconfig tool
-Post migration steps for RAC
-Enable AutoConfig on the Applications Database tier
- Follow the "Establish Applications Environment for RAC" section from Doc:362135.1
-Configure PArallel Concurrent Processing(PCP)

(Considering that there are only 2 nodes the scenario the steps would be as follows:
1. Install RAC using the steps provided at the link:

2.On RAC1 create a single instance of Oracle 11i (Both DB and Apps are on the same node)
3. Follow the steps outlined in the Note:362135.1
One thing to note is that the steps are the same whether the nodes are real or virtual.

Hi All,
I have read many blogs and article about installing Oracle 11g R2 RAC on vmware. For self learning process what should be minimum configuration of hardware.
Minimum physical memory will be 8 GB what is minumum processor required ( 2 Cores / 4 Threads) or ( 4 Cores / 8 Threads)?
Native operating system will be Windows 7 64 bit.

You wouldn't be doing much with the processors so it won' t matter hugely having a dual or quad core. As long as there is sufficient RAM(like 8gig) , you should be fine. Try to get SSD if you want more faster performance from the machine in terms of IO.

How to change permissions on shared storage to install Oracle RAC on vmware

Hello:
- I am trying to install Oracle RAC using vmware.
- But when I try to change permissions for the shared storage,
the owner and group of the shared storage does not change.
- Has some else installed Oracle RAC onto vmware ?
- I am using Oracle RAC 10.2.0, solaris 5.10 x86

I don't know why they have even canceled articles such as the Build your own rac with vmware. It was very good. The only copy I found so far was in korean, and I am not familiar with this language.

Migrate Oracle RAC to Vmware

Hi;
Am wondering if anyone has ever tried migrating a present RAC environment (2 node cluster using ASM accessing a SAN for the data and flash). I know I can convert the physicals but all documentation I have found on disk sharing points to creating the disks and doing the multi-writer option. This is not possible when the added disk is using a Raw Device Mapping which is my only option when presenting the LUNS to the host server. This is an ora10g and ESXi 5.1.

I think install a new RAC in vmware and migrate data from old db use export/import or sqlload is a better and safer choice .

Have you looked in this log file to see why the OCR is inaccessible? Have you looked in the ASM instance's alert log for other clues?

Vmware Installation - Error

Hi,
I had windows 2003 server in my System (desktop).
I downloaded Vmware Server
Vmware Server Console and Vmware Perl scirpts and SDK.
I Installed the VMware Server and then VMware Server Console, with out any problems and installed remaining tools like Perl scripts and SDK.
Now I restarted and then started VMware Server Console
Go a UI and two radio buttons local host and remote Host.
Since in order to a New Virtual machine we have first connect to local Host and then we have to create. but when I tried to connect to local getting error.
Stating that :-
504 Global Suppory vmware-vmdb can not connect to non host.
Please any one can solve this ..I tried in
Windows Media Center Edition and Windows Xp.
But could not able to solve and just trying my self to solve this problem
Can any one help me in this regard.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions.
In future I will follow,
I just posted since in order to test the RAC installation on nodes we need more than One systems and high rated environments.
Instead of that we can create Virtual Systems on single Desktop we can test it.
In order to do that I had posted. I though there may be a guys who had tested RAC
etc.,
IF you think that I should not post such things, From here onwards I will not do further.
