10_Recommended patches: run from local filesystem

The install_cluster script for the latest Solaris 10 Recommended patch cluster checks to see if it's being run from a local filesystem.
If not, it bails out: Excerpt below:
df -l . > /dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? != 0 ]; then
echo "install_cluster must be run from a local filesystem.\n"
return 1
fi
Anyone know why?

Bumping this subject up.
Can someone please explain the reason for this check? Its only purpose seems to be to annoy system administrators.

    Have you renamed your system recently? This happens because the properties file may still have old system name, the problem should be resolved by deleting system folder.Also please make sure that your system name should not have null spaces, i remember this problem with jdev 9i.

  • Reading files from local hard disk - Access Local Files Only

    Hi All,
    I have a local flash file published as 'Access Local Files Only', to allow me to read from local filesystem.
    What methods or classes can I use to read text and other files from the user's harddisk.
    This is the first time I am trying to do something like this, all help is grealy appreciated.
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi, thanks for the responses
    I did some searching and found that the urlloader class is the right one for the job.
    'Access Local Files Only' option is provided for this very purpose I believe.
    If anyone has done something like this and have some sample code it would be awesome

  • 11.5.10 Step by Step - Run istore from local machine for customization

    Hello,
    Does anyone have step by step instructions on using JDeveloper to run iStore JSPs on local machine with the end goal to customize JSPs? We have 11.5.10. I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.5. Have tried following steps per lot of metalink notes but none seem to be working. Need to know exactly:
    - what Jdeveloper version to use for 11.5.10?
    - Where to download this version from?
    - Is it even possible to run iStore from local Windows machine using JDeveloper?
    - What is the main iStore page that should be run the 1st time?
    - Any expert available in USA for a 2 week paid assignment to help our team setup Jdeveloper for customization? And give intro lessons?
    Much Help...
    Thanks

    1. The Jdeveloper you use with 11.5.10 will depend on which ATG patch level you are at (see metalink note 416708.1)
    2. It will be in a metalink patch (see metalink note 4167708.1)
    3. I don't believe you can run it locally on a windows machine.
    4. Can't remember it off the top of my head but I will look back in my notes, I'm no longer working at the client site who has iStore.
    5. I know of 3 or 4 experts that I have worked with in Canada on JDeveloper/iStore/Configurator, I don't know anyone in the US but there has got to be a bunch out there looking for work.

  • Database Refresh From ASM Filesystem to Local Filesystem

    Hi ALL,
    I am performing a database refresh from production server to a demo server. Our Production database is 11.2.0.1 and it is using ASM filesystem to keep the data, redo and other files in ASM disks.
    On the other hand demo server is not having ASM, all the database files are stored in a local filesytem.
    I have taken a fresh backup of our production database, but I am not sure to perform the restore part as the demo server is not having ASM.
    Can anyone suggest me how to perform this, I mean datafile restore from ASM to local filesystem.
    Any usefull links will be helpful.
    Regards,
    Arijit

    Hello,
    You can restore the backup of your Production database which is using ASM to your demo server (using file system).
    Make sure that the control_files parameter in the pfile/spfile is pointing to the file system location where you want to have contol files located on the demo server.
    Next, before you use the restore command to restore the database, provide the location of the datafile where you need to restore using the "set newname" clause.
    run
    set newname for datafile 1 to '<file-system-location-on-demo-server>';
    set newname for datafile 2 to '<file-system-location-on-demo-server>';
    restore database;
    switch datafile all;
    recover database;
    }

  • Running CLIX commands from local machine

    Hello Experts,
    We have the following requirements in terms of clix commands
    Need to know the number of files in log/archieve/report folder - Is there any clix commands for this
    Want to run the clix commands manually from local machine (Windows), the mdm server is at linux environment. We dont want to automate the script and want to run when needed from local machine. Is that possible
    Thanks & Regards,
    Antony

    HI,A.Antony
    as far as i know ,clix can not count the number of files in the loglog/archieve/report folder.but there is a way out.you can get through the path:<driver>:\usr\sap\<instance>\MDS00\log to check it out.
    to run clix locally,you need to install the mdm-clix-7.1.<sp>.<patch>-win32.exe on your windows.then run the clix in the cmd circumstance.for the clix command Syntax,please refer to the MDM console reference guide,as for MDM7.1SP12,you may goto the Clix referece guide on help.sap.com.
    hope it helps.
    best regards

  • Displaying files from a local filesystem not in Webserver Root

    I have been attempting to display a file from a local filesystem with no luck. Is there any way, with something like UTL_FILE, to read in a file (A pre-generated report from Funnel Web) and display it through a custom portlet? I have created a provider/portlet to use, however, I cannot seem to find the right combination of PL/SQL to accomplish this task. I am by no means a PL/SQL guru. Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks.

    You can use URL component in the applications tab,for this purpose.
    (Create a URL component with URL pointing to ur local file system, which is under web server directory.)

  • How to install a patch from local JAR file...

    Newbie question -
    I'm getting an error when deploying an MDB on WL 10.0 - someone else had also come across that same error and he sent me a patch (CR326377_10GA.jar) that should fix it.
    How do I install that patch on my local WinXP installation of WL - do I just add an entry to the CLASSPATH of the startweblogic.bat file? I'm a little concenred about the order of JARs there... is there a better way?!
    I tried looking up this patch using the Smart Update utility - but I could not find it there - how do I do it manually?
    thanks,
    james
    Edited by jdepaul at 03/20/2008 4:13 PM

    I believe you can contact support and get a patch id and passcode for this
    patch and then install using smart update.
    StartWeblogic.cmd will also look for a weblogic_patch.jar in the patch
    directory. I.e. something like
    d:\BEA10\patch_wls100\profiles\default\sys_manifest_classpath\weblogic_patch.jar
    Cut/paste the directory from the output of startweblogic.cmd and then create
    the directory and copy the patch to the right filename.
    Or you can put the patch before any other jars in the classpath.

    Hi,
    As sunny explained.. there is lot of factors involved in Client copy.
    1) Database Size
    2) Tables
    3) System Resources
    You can exclude the tables in client copy if you really dont need the data of tha particular tables while scheduling the client copy.
    any way we could see that  No. of Tables (Total) 55537 of 55852 copied.. it's almost done 300+ tables are there to copy.

  • Cannot run the code from local machine - works after deployment!!!

    Hi,
    I am totally new to application server. My problem is that the application code after it is 'deployed' from JDeveloper to Oracle Application Server - it works fine. I can go to the web application from the url and do a 'Submit' of forms and it works fine. The problem comes when I try to connect to dev. environment from local machine and try to do a 'Submit' (done for debugging purposes), I get a 500 Internal Server Error. Is there a configuration file or property I file I have to change? I am clueless.
    Basically addRequest can be considered as the 'Submit'.
    Javax.faces.FacesException: #{newRequestItem.addRequest}: javax.faces.el.EvaluationException: java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access class javax.xml.rpc.FactoryFinder from class javax.xml.rpc.ServiceFactory
    At com.sun.faces.application.ActionListenerImpl.processAction(ActionListenerImpl.java:98)
    My application is built on ADF and JSF and connects to BPEL workflow and DRM. So it is using WebServices.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Top further pinpoint the issue, I can make the SSRS report work with the stored procedure by running
    SP_recompile 'myStoredProcedure'
    So, SQL Server has somehow messed up the execution plan for the sproc. But to repeat, executing the Sproc in Management Studio works just fine, I just look the exact sproc and parameters with SQL Profiler when it is not working in SSRS report, then run that
    same sproc manually and it works.
    After extensive debugging, it seems to raise from one specific SELECT row:
    SELECT
    cte.TIMEYEAR + 1 AS TIMEYEAR,
    where cte.TIMEYEAR is varchar. After changing that to
    SELECT
    CAST(cte.TIMEYEAR + 1 AS VARCHAR) AS TIMEYEAR,
    it started to work.
    What will probably remain forever unclear is that WHY the original select always breaks every now and then, and always starts to work with a simple sp_recompile. I could reproduce the error easily by running
    exec sp_msforeachtable @command1="EXEC sp_recompile '?'";
    after which the sproc raised error: "Conversion failed when converting nvarchar value 'Q1/2000' to data type int".
    ..aaaand then just by running SP_recompile 'myStoredProcedure' it again started working fine. I could reproduce this break & fix pair coherently.
    Still it makes no sense from SSRS report perspective, when sproc was broken in Management Studio query, it was always broken from SSRS report end as well, but sometimes when sproc was working from SSMS, it wasn't working from SSRS.

    How can I do that with out having an instance of HttpRequest or whatever??

    Hello Bruce.
    Please take a look at the following KBase article.  It has a sample that will retrieve the folder structure for a specified Crystal Report template based on the instance name in the file store.  The sample there can be easily modified so that it is based on a specific infoObject id.
    1549728 - How to find the folder structure in the CMC of a report template based on the instance file name in the output file store.
    The KBase can be retrieve from the following link:

    Please note that the KBase article is retrieved through the Service MarketPlace.
    I hope this helps.

  • Kernel panic upon mounting local filesystems, yet Windows works fine

    I recently got a free MacBook from Apple to replace my dying iBook G4 of almost 3 years. It's been working great. Got everything running great, Boot Camp'd it, and have enjoyed using it with both OSes.
    Well, that is until a few days ago. My friend wanted to try out Parallels, so I let him boot up to it. It started acting slow (running off battery power, reduced CPU usage) so he forced a shutdown on it. Ever since then, OS X kernel panics on boot. Going into Safe Boot resulted in a kernel panic. Going into verbose mode reveals it panicking as it mounts the local filesystems (occasionally with a message about the Bluetooth idle timer stopping sandwiched between the mounting message and the panic message) Booted into single-user mode, ran a fsck, and it came up fine. Tried to boot from the bundled install DVD, but it only results in a kernel panic as well. Amazingly, through all of this, the Windows partition still works fine. I can also still use the Mac partition from Windows using MacDrive without a problem.
    So, has the ghost of Bill Gates tried to overtake my MacBook, or have the little gnomes in there decided to mess with me? I'm pretty reluctant to say that it's the HD being corrupt, because as I mentioned before, the drive still works fine. All the hardware works fine under Windows as well.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Oh, and a snippet from the panic screen: (Didn't take the whole thing down, and I don't have a log to copy the text out of, seeing as it can't mount the drive to write the log to it)
    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x001A31CE): Unresolved kernel trap (CPU 1, Type 14=page fault)
    Sounds pretty typical for this sort of problem.

    My workaround appears to have been successful.
    1. Start MacBook in FireWire Target Disk Mode.
    2. Make an image of the OS X partition on the host computer using Disk Utility.
    3. Erase and zero the OS X partition using Disk utility
    4. Restore the OS X Partition using Disk utility.
    I previously tried zapping PRAM and following the other Apple provided techniques for trying to get the system to boot, so thos changes might also have been important, though I doubt it.
    The key piece of information to determine whether this fix is for you is the kernel panic while attempting to mount you disk in single-suer mode. If the MacBook gives a kernel panic identical to the one listed by the OP. The steps above appear to be a valid fix for such a problem.
