the battery is runs down when the thing is off. as quickly as overnight, the the battery is completely depleted.
i swear i have followed all the directions for turning it off - including using the "hold" switch! if i was listening to it, it should/would have a longer battery life.
could it be a faulty unit?

Do you mean the battery meter shows half full?
That doesn't mean the battery is half gone. It's an approxiamtion. And when the HD spins up, the meter goes down. WHen the HD shuts off, it goes back up.

    A rep that I spoke w/ on the phone and the website tells me that the HD set top boxes are not compatiable w/ the Multi Room DVR. But they are working on it. A rep I chatted w/ today told me they definitely WILL work together. Why can't I get a straight answer?? And what IS the correct answer? I want to switch to FIOS and I really like the Multi Room DVR option, but I don't want my 1 of my 2 main TVs to be w/o HD. And since the Multi Room Box is HD why wouldn't it be compatiable w/ the HD boxes??

    And that info is out of date, whether it is on Verizon's website or not. If you have the latest level of the IMG (1.6), then, as confirmed one post above yours, that the HD STB is now supported, and works. This has been posted in multiple posts on multiple forums, so I believe that it is accurate. But I do not have the 1.6 level so I cannot confirm that personally, I can only repeat what other posters in this and other forums have said. For example:

  • Why can't we get a straight answer from Apple about updater issues?

    Why are there thousands and thousands of posts from people all having the same issue? We try to update IPod software using latest updater, and it causes IPod to no longer be recognized. All we want is someone from Apple to FIX THE PROBLEM! Yet all we get are refferals to complicated articles that never seem to work for at least half the people. Clearly it is a problem with these updaters. WHY IS APPLE NOT FIXING THIS ISSUE? Can anyone give me a straight answer!?

    There are roughly 10,300 thread with 50,000 posts in the iPod Nano forum, and there are probably another 500,000 who don't even know it exists. I don't there there has been a thousand posts on the updater issue. It may seem like thousands upon thousands, but don't forget; you're at an Apple Support Forum.

    There's no need to "shout". I don't think Apple is going to hear you from shouting in a user to user forum. Nor will you probably get a answer (here) from Apple for the same reason. I have a -------- (straight) answer for you. I don't know what's going on specifically (no one really knows in this forum because they are all users. Anyone who would know won't say), but I can assure you that Apple isn't ignoring the issue. They are the quickest to respond to any problem that comes their way. If you would like to get Apple's attention, I don't suggest ranting and raving in the iPod user to user forum. I suggest submitting polite feedback to Apple here.

    Actually, everyone missed one point, when a device is priced, the cost of icloud storage space for that device is also included in it that is why they are able to give you 5gb each for each user ID, in nutshell there is nothing free coming with apple device purchase, it is paid for.  What they are trying by giving only 5gb per user ID irrespective of the number of devices used is pure broadlight looting, they take money from you when you buy each device and give you nothing, This is a case of goods and services bought but not fully deliverd ie apple can be suied for discreminatory treatment towards it's users. I wonder why no one tried this yet in America where everyone sue everyone for petty things..... there is no one to take up this issue? . if tim got any love for the guys who shell out money for the devices his company makes, he should be implimenting this as priority before someone wake up from sleep and sue him.

    Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

    That is just plain evil. But I am sure I could do something to help.

    Brigancook, is the library database on the external or just the media? iTunes reevaluates smart playlists and rewrites its database after every action on the library. I've found this can make a library half that size, with a lot of smart playlists, quite sluggish. That said I'm aware part of my problem is aging hardware. Having the database on the internal drive may improve performance if it is currently on the external.
    I'd expect to see an exponential relationship between size and response time which may explain what you see. Cutting down on the number of smart playlists might help. If we're really lucky the long awaited iTunes 11 might have streamlined some of the background processes as well as cleaning up the front end.

    have you tried removing and readding the e-mail account? sometimes settings get corrupted or changed on the server end...something computers can sometimes handle better than the mail interface.

    Do you get a send error message or a red "!" when you send?  Do you have a data plan on your account?  Check that your carrier has you provisioned for MMS.

    What I used to copy my contacts from my 1st gen iPod touch to my new 5th gen iPod touch was a piece of software called Syncios.  Just download and install Syncios (www.syncios.com), which is totally 100% FREE.  When you connect your iPad to your computer via the included cable it'll give you a Warning about you can't have iTunes running.  On the Syncios website it'll give you all of the info on how to back up your contacts.  When you connect your 5th gen iPod touch to your computer just click on the Recover button then the file name of the contact back up.  Hope this helps you and it helped me a lot.  I backed up both my contacts and notes using the same software.

    In iTunes I have music Playlists set to shuffle (blue double arrow button) and audio books Playlist set no shuffle. I have been unable to get my iPod to follow these settings. A suggested work around is to use the iPod Settings to set the shuffle function to "songs" when playing music and then switching to “off’ for audio books. There has to be a better way. How do I set the Playlists on my iPod to function the same as it does on iTunes?

    Using your process are you able to set your iPod to shuffle then listen to the audio book without it shuffling the chapters? I have tried your suggestion with the iPod setting set to shuffle and the chapters shuffled. This is the issue from my original post. I want to listen to music with the shuffle function and listen to audio books (no shuffle) without having to change the settings every time I switch.
    Keep in mind that is not a purchased audio nor a imported book.
