100 percent Flawless MBP UNTIL TODAY
I have had no problems with my macbook pro, however, It is unusual for me now. I was using logic and itunes was open in the background. I got an error message saying it was shutting down itunes and then the whole screen froze with a bunch of diagonal lines that all run paralell with eachother sort of like this ///////////////////////////////////////.down the whole monitor. I can't see through these lines and so i nervously reboot my computer to experience the SAME THING ON STARTUP. My computer wont boot although i see the lines of death and the apple startup icon. It will then go into a all blue screen without the lines and the go black and then back into a screen with the lines again. The lines are multi-colored and look like feedback on a tv. PLEASE HELP. I have already tried RAM reset.
I have recently installed the new update of MAC osx and also the SMU Firmwire or whatever update
I am having the exact same problem. Was working on an email and then the system just freaked out. Rebooted and the screen was the same. Have called support and they want me to take it to the closest store to have it look at. This ***** i have only had this for 15 days. All usage has been in cool rooms with lots of air flow.

I was just having this problem until today. It is now all sorted and I can explain what to do very simply and easily.
I remembered the answers to my questions, I just forgot "EXACTLY" how I entered the text - so I had to have them reset. The easiest way is to sign in through www.appleid.com. Then on the right click the "Manage your Account" link and sign in. Easy so far right. Then, as others have said, look on the left of the screen you will see a link called "Password and Security" - click on this. Now this is where the confusion begins. Some people have a link located directly under the existing questions that looks like this "Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to blah blah blah email . If you see this click it and it will send an email to the "Rescue Email" address that you entered when you originally entered your answers. Follow the instructions contained in this email and you are done. If you cannot remember this email address or you have since closed it, you will need to go to the Itunes Express lane and send an email to Apple requesting them to reset your answers.
HOWEVER IF YOU DO NOT SEE A THIS LINK UNDER THE QUESTIONS - this means that you DID NOT enter a Rescue email address when you originally set your questions. The only way you can now reset your Security Questions and Answers is to go to the Itunes Express lane and email Apple asking to have these reset. I have 2 apple accounts, one for myself and one for my daughter - as I did not include a rescue email I had to email apple. On both occasions, these questions were reset and an email sent to me exactly 24 hours after I sent them the request. I entered the new details, WROTE THEM DOWN EXACTLY AS I ENTERED THEM THIS TIME, entered a Rescue Email this time and I am good to go again. Simple. Now when I log in and click on "Password and Security" I do have the reset link visable. Apple support are good, they just take a bit of time to get things done, but they always seem to get there in the end. I just wish someone had taken the time to explain this somewhere else in the forum as it would have saved me much time and angst.
To get to the Itunes Express Lane go to this website www.appleid.com make sure the correct country is displayed top right, if not change it. Once this is saved go to the tabs at the top of the screen and click Support. Then halfway down the next page you will see a photo of two random people with a title of Contact Apple Support - Click this. Scroll down until you see the itunes logo, to the right of this you will see the link Express Lane for iTunes Player and iTunes Store - click on this. One the right hand side of the next page click on the link "itunes Store". On the next page click the link "Account Management" check the radio button beside "itunes store account security", select your country from the drop down box and click "Continue". Under the heading MORE OPTIONS, you will see a clickable link called email - click this. Fill in your name, Apple ID and country. Then in the text box, write "I have forgotten the answers to my Security questions, would you kindly please reset them. Thank-You". Then Click Continue, you will be given a reference number and an email is sent to your address advising that generally someone will attend to your request within 24 hours. Like I said previously, I had to do this twice and both times it was reset however it was done within about 5 minutes of the 24 hour cut off, so you will have to be patient. I know 100% that this works for Australia - I am guessing other countries should be similar. Hope this helps someone somewhere!Standard troubleshooting...
1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider. Slide to power off. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider if it comes up. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
3. Remove apps from Recently Used list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Swipe up on the app preview card
- Press the home button when done.
4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue. -
Have installed, uninstalled itunes on xp machine and tried all the fixes given in the discussion groups, plus cnet and other internet fixes.....nothing works. After installation of itunes cpu usage goes to 100 percent and itunes stops. Cpu stays at 100 percent until I uninstall itunes. By the number of posts on the internet, I can't believe Apple hasn't addressed this issue with a fix.
I had the same problem but this worked for me.
Get to a dos command prompt and type: netsh winsock reset
You will need to reboot your computer but it fixed tocpu 100% issue.

Starting about 4 months ago when nothing had happened in a long time build wise to my computer I began having this issue. The issue being whenever I sync my Iphone 4 to my desktop it will stop mid sync. The iphone 4 will pull itself out of sync mode thus freezing the itunes process. At which time all FOUR cores on my cpu will jump up to 100 percent load and if left unchecked would fry my CPU.
Now I recently just got around to updating to 4.1 and created a backup. Attempted and then ran into this gem of a problem isn't that just ffreaking amazing. Anyways I am now sync'd to my laptop (same OS just a dell xps studio) and everything went dandy except for the fact I lost my backup of my phone (for some reason it won't let me migrate it over to a 4GB thumbdrive out of the appdata folder).
Does ANYONE know what's going on here and does anyone have a solution. I called Apple and unfortunately they had never heard of the problem.Figured as much. I work at AT&T and sell this stuff all day every day. Love the iphone. Loved itunes versions 8 and under. Versions 9 and up have been absolute **** optmized for Pc's. I.e. the horizontal scrolls in the itunes store section are flawless on a Mac (with lesser hardware) and extremely choppy on in PC i've gotten my hands on. Alas I wish there was some continuity between the builds. There i fear will always be a gap. Oh yeah and itunes blows on my desktop. Peace!

100 percent browser width draw problem in IE10
When I draw a rectangle at 100 percent browser width, in IE10 when I resize the browser window the rectangle will flash on and off until I stop resizing the browser. This does not happen in Chrome , any suggestions?

I try to explain better:
In my real application (not this simple example) I compose an image by the union of many little gifs. Then I have to save the result in a unique image. It's for this that I've overridden paintComponent(), so , after having painted all gifs, I save composite image to a png one.
This function is activated from a main application, and I don't want to show too much to user, so I try to make this by using a popup frame that disappear quickly.
I hope to having been as clear as possible.

There are some databases/sites that I have access to when having an IP number on university campus or with a proxy. This worked well in firefox until today. When trying to visit those pages the addresses automatically change a second or two after pressing enter to something like: http://www04.sub.su.se:###/ combined with showing random webpages in the window. This seems to be something associated with firefox since I still have access to the pages in internet explorer.
For example:
If I write http://www.isiknowledge.com/ the address changes to http://www04.sub.su.se:2133/cgi-bin/[email protected].
If I want to get to scholar.google.se I get redirected to http://www04.sub.su.se:2087/
When wanting to visit http://pubs.acs.org/about.html I will end up here: http://www04.sub.su.se:2110/about.html
This problem only occurs on services where I in normal case can get access to articles in scientific journals. I have not encountered this problem in other cases/websites.
I have tried to scan my laptop for viruses with Symantec Endpoint Protection and SuperAntiSpyware 4.45.1000. But nothing suspicious was found.Hi Magsrobby,

I've upgraded to OS 10.8.2 and my Bowers and Wilkins MM-1 Speakers were working fine until today, and now they won't play any sound at all, even though iTunes shows the audio is playing. I've tried both the headphone jack and the USB port. Please help! I don't want to have to be stuck using my internal speakers!

Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &

Apple TV worked until today. Message says unsupported signal check your output device. I have checked hdmi cable with another device and it's fine. Put on a different tv and same message. Went out yesterday and bought a new Apple TV and same problem.

You may wish to try the following:
Press and hold the menu and the up button simultaneously on the remote for six seconds, the Apple TV should then begin to cycle through the various resolutions available to it at 20 second intervals.. If you see a picture appear up on your screen, use the remote to scroll down to the OK option and select it. -
goodnight. as you know apple has evolved considerably until today but there are people who do not have ability to buy new products. in my case I would like to know why the apple do not let the iphone 3g update to iOS 4.3 as are several applications that can not put on my iphone 3g due to this reason. Why does not Apple make a repository with applications for ios 4.2.1? or else do not work in an update to ios 4.3 on iphone 3g?
This has nothing to do with Apple, as Apple does not make the apps.
This is the decision of the app maker.
Contact those app makers and ask them why they do this. -
I can no longer send emails from my mac yahoo business account, but can send them directly from yahoo. just not from mac mail. I've been able to send emails perfectly fine until today. I've been on the phone with yahoo mail and they've verified that my account settings are correct and I can send email from yahoo. I can receive emails via Mac mail, but just can't send them. An error message appears that says:
"Sending the message content to the server failed." I can't send emails from my Mac desktop, iphone or ipad. Any suggestions! Help! I'm a Mac rookie and so frustrated! Thanks.Please read and begin using Can receive email, but not send email. I had a similar issue with Comcast mail (could receive by not send) and found my answer in this letter. For me it took resetting the outgoing mail and telling the system to use a password when sending outgoing mail. If you need help with that please advise and I'll tell you where to look.

I had never heard of someone using the iPhone Number as the ID in the iMessages account in the Mac version.
i.e without adding an Apple ID
iMessages does allow iPhone numbers and mine lists mine.
I would try this.
Sign Out of the iMessages account and Quit Messages
On the iPhone in Settings > Messages remove the Apple ID
Set the iPhone to Airplane mode for a few minutes (to break with the Server)
On starting the phone up again check the iPhone Number is ticked for iMessages.
If it is add the Apple ID
On the Mac restart Messages
Add the Apple ID
At this point you should get a pop up or two saying the iPhone is using the Number and Apple ID.
Accept these and they get added to the Receive At list and Send From drop down.

Up until today, I did everything with Firefox. Then I was on Paypal and went to print a shipping label and the printer would not work. I went to troubleshoot page and it printed a test page. I uninstalled my printer and then re-installed it. Still would not work from an internet page. I did a system restore. Still didn't work. Called Epson. They say it's a Firefox problem because it works on Notebook and test pages. I installed IE and the printer works. What happened and how can I get it back working with Firefox?
I have the same problem, I cannot print PayPal shipping label off of Firefox. I did the about.config entry and have seen that the print.print_printer does not exist at all in the list of entries. I use Vista 32. I use an Epson 545 wirelessly.

My iPhone no longer works with my wi-fi network. It detects the network but is unable to communicate, even though until today it worked great for months. The network is Verizon FiOS Internet on an M1424WR router. PCs and iPad continue to work with the same network without any problem. Any ideas?

Until today I was able to ignore the compatability issues warning (I know bad idea to ignore warnings) and move between IOS Lion and Windows 8.1 Pro partitions on my 20" iMac (Late 2006) with Intel processor. After restarting Windows and spending 1/2 hour waiting for it to update (after installing Office 365) Window works fine, but when I activiate BootCamp (from Windows) nothing happens. It opens and gives me the warning with the option to run the program anyway (like always) but it the program never starts. It stays in Windows. How do I get back to IOS 7 Lion so I can upgrade BootCamp 4 to BootCamp 5 which I just saw today as the solution...?

Premiere Pro CC has been working fine until today. I have completed my sequence and it is active. I have both audio and video checked when I am exporting using H.264 with Match Source Hi bitrate. I am choosing entire sequence. The audio exports but the video and title does not. Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this so I can complete this project? Please!

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
