100% zoom vs one/two page display

If I hit one page view, the text gets scrunched down to a hard to read level.  If I hit 100% zoom I see two pages.  What I'd like to do is see the document in 100% and then simply keep scrolling down.  It seems like Word 2007 really forces
you into a devil's choice:  two pages side-by-side, or a zoom to an unreadable level to completely fit one page on the screen.  Again, what I'd like to get is as much of one page as possible (and only one page), and 100% zoom.  Thanks.

Why are the developers unwilling to implement a solution to this problem, and instead just telling us helpless users to live with a workaround? All it takes is to push a non-critical update through Microsoft Update to fix this for everybody.
I'm pretty sure you have a big team of developers working on developing Microsoft Word. If I can think of all the possible solutions below just by myself, why can't that whole team come up with something ever better? Seriously?
Either: Provide a new option under
Word Options > Display > Page display options that says
"Prefer displaying single page in Print Layout view." with an information tooltip
(i) that says "Word prefers displaying two or more pages in a row if the zoom level and the width of its window allows it. Turn on this option to force Word to always display a single page per row at any zoom level, regardless of available
width."
- The next solution may be better than this as at low zoom levels the small unreadable pages will be displayed as a continuous string instead of a grid.
- You may even include a checkbox on the Ribbon to easily toggle this.
Or: Provide a new option under
Word Options > Display > Page display options that says
"Prefer displaying one page instead of two pages in Print Layout view." with an information tooltip
(i) that says "Word prefers displaying two or more pages in a row if the zoom level and the width of Word's window allows it. Turn on this option to force Word to display a single page at zoom levels where normally two pages are displayed side
by side in a row. This option is most useful if you have a widescreen monitor, and it will not affect zoom levels where three or more pages can be displayed in a row."
- This means when the zoom level is small enough to allow three or more pages on a row, Word reverts to normal behavior (but two pages must always be shown as one page).
- You may even include a checkbox on the Ribbon to easily toggle this.
Or: In the
Zoom section of View tab of the Ribbon, make One Page and
Two Pages buttons behave as toggle buttons. When
"One Page" is toggled on, always display one page no matter what the zoom level. When
"Two Pages" is toggled on, always display two pages unless the zoom gets too big. When
both are toggled off, use normal behavior.
- Of course, don't allow both to be toggled on at same time.
If Microsoft ever puts me in the dev team of Word, I'm telling you a LOT of things will change. For starters, I'll listen to user suggestions and attempt to implement the good bunch instead of throwing workarounds at them and telling them to live with it.
Of course, that's not gonna happen coz I don't know why manholes are round and not square!

  • PowerMac 7500 Two-page display

I recently had to move my 7500 while doing some room painting and after hooking it back up and getting it running, the monitor is now in a "two-page display" mode. I am using a Hitachi 15" display through a Liberty plug adaptor. I have tried everything I can think of to bring it back to a one page display, but to no avail. I haven't been able to find the set-up configuration for the Liberty switch settings, but to my knowledge they were not tampered with during the removal and reinstallation of the computer. Anyone have any ideas?

You pulled the plug. Your PRAM battery is dead, and your parameters are corrupted.
    Reset the PRAM:
Hold down 4 keys at startup:
    Command Option P R
touch the power key to start up.
continue to hold the 4 keys until you have heard the chimes 4 times.
Release the 4 keys and it should start up normally.

  • Two page display of pdf created in InDesign CS4 js

Hi, I need to set page desplay for pdf created in InDesign to two page view and I couldn't find anything like that in OMV. I assume it will be setting preferances for Matadata. Would you be able to help me.
    Thank you.
    Yulia

    @Yulia:
You can set all "open"-options with Acrobat Pro and you can automate this with a batch process under "Advanced => Document Processing => Batch Processing".
Also there is a way to do that through pdfmark instructions inside a placed EPS. Documentation for doing a "Two-Up (Cover page)" with pdfmarks is not available in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf for the PageLayout-tag. And of course you have to use Distiller to get the pdfmarks working, no chance doing that trick with PDF export.
Here is the pdfmark-code for an EPS you can work with (found and adapted it from the "PostScript & PDF-Bible" by Thomas Merz and Olaf Drümmer):
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
    %%BoundingBox: 0 0 72 72
    %%EndProlog
    /pdfmark where {pop} {userdict /pdfmark /cleartomark load put} ifelse
    [ {ThisPage} << /Trans << /S /Dissolve >> >> /PUT pdfmark
    [ {Catalog} << /PageLayout /TwoColumnRight >> /PUT pdfmark
    %%EOF
Save the code as a plain text file with the ".eps" suffix. Place it on any page you want to print of your InDesign layout, write a PostScript file and distill it to pdf. You should get a "Two-Up" view when opening it in Acrobat.
Meanwhile (after doing a little research on the web) it seams that all possible "/PageLayout" parameter pairs are indeed documented, but not in the pdfmarkReference_v9.pdf, but in the PDF32000_2008.pdf on page 73:
SinglePage     Display one page at a time
OneColumn     Display the pages in one column
TwoColumnLeft     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoColumnRight     Display the pages in two columns, with odd-numbered pages on the right
TwoPageLeft     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the left
TwoPageRight     (PDF 1.5) Display the pages two at a time, with odd-numbered pages on the right
    Default value: SinglePage.

  • How do I allow zooming on a page, but return all pages to 100% zoom after leaving that page?

When I access a webpage and zoom in on content, if I leave the page and return in the same browsing session, the page is still zoomed in. How do I stop Firefox from storing the zoom data so a page will always start on the default zoom level, without needing to manually reset the zoom every time?
I want to completely stop Firefox from storing zoom levels, even on a temporary basis. As soon as I leave a zoomed-in page, all zoom levels everywhere should be 100%. I've tried using private browsing, which stops Firefox from storing zoom levels after a browsing session, and I'm looking for a solution that stops Firefox from using stored zoom levels ever.

I've tried that before, and you're right that it makes Firefox remember the zoom only for the current tab. Unfortunately that doesn't work for me, since everything needs to happen within a single tab. If there are no solutions available for standard builds of Firefox, I'm going to look into modifying the source code or writing an external script to handle this.
This is for a public information kiosk, so many Firefox features are disabled. I'm trying to deal with an issue where one user zooms in on a page, and then the next user to use that page has trouble finding information because of the changed zoom level.

  • How to change Preview's Full screen default setting from "two-pages" to "continuous scroll"

I am using OS X mavericks on my mid 2013 Air.
I usually need to open multiple PDFs during my work and I prefer to put them all in full screen for easy swapping. I was able to change the setting which allowed me to open PDFs in "continuous scroll". However, the PDFs became two-pages display again when I put them into full screen and I can't find any setting which allow me to change the full screen default display mode. Is there a way to do it or it is simply not possible.? Could Apple just add an option for us to change it? Thanks in advance for any help.

You may also need to reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • Since Firefox v34, after zooming text on a page Google Search took me to, the Google search page is blank after clicking 'Back' to it. Is this a v34 glitch?

Since Firefox v34, the Google Search results page is blank after, 1) Clicking on a link in a Google Search results page and loading the linked page, 2) Zooming in on the text on the page Google took me to, and then without resetting text zoom, 3) Clicking the Firefox 'Back' arrow to return to the Google search results. If at that point I either reload the Google results page, or click back a page and then forward again, the full search results are then displayed again.
This happens on my Windows 7 PC as well as my Vista Notebook. Is this a glitch with text zooming and Google in Firefox version 34?

    '''>>Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.<'''
Setting that made no difference. I ran 30-40 test searches on Google with that set and Firefox restarted in Safe Mode with all add-ons disabled. The problem persists on the vast majority of searches. However backing up to Google search results after following some links doesn't result in the problem.
For instance when I do a Google search from www.google.com (USA) on [https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=%22Steve+Gibson%22+ "Steve Gibson"] and click the first result, which for me is his Wikipedia page: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Gibson_%28computer_programmer%29 "Steve Gibson (computer programmer) - Wikipedia"]. If I hit CTRL/+ a couple times to zoom text after the page loads, and then click Firefox's 'Back" icon, the previous Google search result page will be empty.
However if I click on the 2nd result in Google's search results, which for me is [https://www.grc.com/stevegibson.htm "GRC | Steve Gibson's WebZone:"], I can zoom the text several times and then click back to the Google search results and find them all displayed fine.
But I've been having this problem when backing up to Google search results probably 70-90% of the time since I updated from Firefox v33 to v34.
It's frustrating because Firefox seems to remember the text zoom level for entire domains. So if I zoom on one Wikipedia page, Firefox will display all Wikipedia pages I visit subsequently at that zoom level. I used to love this feature. But it's become a real pain now when I back up to Google.
BTW: If in the 1st example above, I first reset the text zoom level while I'm still on the Steve Gibson Wiki page, all the Google search results are displayed fine after I click Firefox's 'Back" icon. I don't have this problem in Chrome or Opera.

  • Way to have comic book display two pages in landscape and one in portrait?

I'm trying to use iBooks Author to build a very simple manga-style graphic novel.  It's based on a print book (with a lot of unconventional frame use), so I'm not using any fancy interactive features or individual-frame zoom-ins or such.
What I want to do is very simple and seems obvious:  In landscape, I want two images (one for each page) to display side by side.  In portrait, I want a single image to fill the whole display.
Preferably the portrait view will also display one image/page at a time and require page turns, like landscape, rather than a continuous vertical strip of images.
I assume I'm overlooking something really obvious, but I can't seem to figure out how to get this to work in portrait, and searching, or even buying a graphic novel template from a professional studio (they just disabled portrait), hasn't helped.  I can set up landscape well enough, but if I check the option to share images with portrait, I just get little inline thumbnails in the continuous-scroll-style vertical view, when what I want is large, single-page images.  (Perhaps what I'm really asking is how to disable the infinite scrolling mode in portrait view?)
I'm sure the answer to this will be something simple that makes me feel like an idiot, but I would tremendously appreciate any help.

Thanks for the suggestion, K T.
I'd already read through several of those tips lists, and I was aware that the page turn animation was exclusive to epub documents.  I was assuming there would be some way to display a full-screen image in portrait view with an .ibooks file, but perhaps that's not currently the case (which, admittedly, seems like a huge oversight on devices with less-than-10" screens).
I could accept a continuously-scrolling portrait mode if that's a requirement, but I'd at least need to expand the page-images to fill the column, which is where I also wasn't having any luck with.  It seems like doing a new section for each page might be a sort of hack, to get around this as well, although it might preclude re-using the images in portrait view.
(I probably also should have mentioned that I realize I could build this as an .epub or PDF book and get it to do more or less what I want, but there would be annoying faux-gutter and borders that I'd prefer to avoid, and iBooks Author otherwise seems to be capable of producing exactly the material I'm looking for with a lot less work than hand-coding an ePub file.)

  • Published Concept page displays very small = Zoom is 100%

I can't seem to make the concept page display in full size in my browser - the only tips I can see advice on adjusting the zoom, which has been tested and does not resolve.
It's only the concept page in my published player output is far too small - the menu structure displays fine. We can also open Try It mode (etc) and that works fine. It's just the concept displaying very small where it should take the whole screen.
    - Zoom is at 100% (and changing up or down does not help).
    - 96 DPI in screen settings.
    We are using IE 7.
Has anyone else had this issue and been able to resolve? Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

    Hello,
The only reasons I can think of would be the ones you've already checked: zoom percentage and DPI. I would suggest logging a support ticket in My Oracle Support if you have not already done so. You can increase the font size and automatically page view changes. Go to menubar; Reading -> PDF View or Epub Text Size (depending upon the ebook) and increase the size.

  • Viewing two pages on 23" display?

I cannot figure out how to see two pages next to one another
on a 23" Cinema display. I have zoomed out and enlarged the Pages window to fill the screen, but still get only one page
on the left side of the screen.
If someone has a suggestion I'd appreciate hearing. Thanks.

Yes, Peggy. It's nice to have the extra room for the inspector.
With Pages I miss the ability that Word gives me to have a legible overview of about 6 pages. On really long documents, I like being able to view an editable layout of a large chunk of pages (not just a strip of page thumbnails down the side).
A 23" display is perfect for viewing 10 or 24 or more pages to see the flow of chapters. This bird's-eye view really helps me as a writer. I can do it in Word, but not Pages. Naturally I don't want to do all my writing with things zoomed that small, but it's indispensable for viewing.
Analogy: In astronomy, I prefer binoculars to a telescope because they show a quicker overview of the sky, with a lot in the field of view. A telescope is like looking through a drinking straw and it's harder to find objects.
I guess I'm a right-brained Mac user who wishes he could see a multiple page overview. I would think that would also be really useful for scanning the layout of multi-page newsletters and things from the other Pages templates.

  • How can I make some pages in a PDF display in single-page view and others in two-page (facing) view?

Exactly as it says on the tin. I am looking to save a PDF magazine/book layout in such a way so that when opened, only the front and back covers open to the viewer in single-page mode, and the rest of the pages in two-page facing mode, without re-printing the in-between pages in booklet format  and re-inserting them into a new PDF (with the front and back covers left separate and untouched, and included as single portrait-orientation pages). This is so that individual pages can still be printed (on a physical printer, not a "virtual" one like a PDF driver), as-is without having the page next to it included, or the printouts always requiring landscape orientation (resulting with two "pages" from the PDF showing up on one sheet of paper).
So when the PDF is opened, I want just the front and back cover to be auto-viewed by themselves, and the content (the "meat" of the document) viewed side-by-side, as though one were actually reading a "book" -- but without actually re-doing the content pages to be "fused" side-by-side. Thus creating the "illusion" that they are, in fact, in booklet form. Is this possible, to have different page-display settings for different pages/page ranges in a single PDF? If so, how is this done? If not, what would be my best course of action otherwise to achieve this "virtual" book layout, while still retaining the "physical" structure of the document and allowing individual pages to be printed by themselves rather than "fused" together?
Using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7 Pro SP1.

    Dave Merchant wrote:
The best you can do practicably is the 'two up with cover page' view mode. The first page will appear singly but not centered, and to get the last page to behave it would have to be a folio sheet.
It's theoretically possible to use JavaScript to reset the view mode as each page is changed, but it makes for a nightmare of usability (what if someone on a smaller display wants to use 'fit to width'? Not an option if JS keeps overruling it). Anything involving JS won't work on non-Adobe software or mobile devices.
Not a programmer by any means, so I won't be using JavaScript because I wouldn't know where to begin. I was thinking more in terms of an option I could adjust in the menus or dialogues.

  • How to display the first page alone first and two pages (back and front) then ?

    Hi
    I use acrobat 9 (beginner).
I have a document which should be displayed "as a book", ie two pages on the screen at the same time, the back of the first sheet and the front of the second one.
The problem I have is to manage to display the cover sheet as a single page (alone) and then to have the dual page layout as described above.
How could I do that ?

  • Any way to get more than 100% zoom on print jobs when printing multiple pages?

I know how to increase the size of a print job, when I am printing one page at a time. But when I go to print 2 pages at once (the multiple page print function), there are always large margins around the page. I'm ok with saving paper and printing up two pages, but it seems silly to see small print and wide blank margins. Is there any way to increase the print zoom, when printing multiple pages per sheet of paper?

I once overshot the limit by marking too many photos to fit within 99 pages, but I could never figure out how to fool the application and had to give up trying to add those 14 extra photos.
I asked a friend (who practically lives in Terminal) if he had any way of modifying that limit, but he reminded me that if their printing services are set up to bind books and bill for only 99 pages, fooling the application might be useless if the service only prints me a 99 page book and discards the additional pages.
I can understand that you wouldn't want to let people print 1000 page books, but I sent feedback anyway to allow me to increase the limit. Anyone know of any service that lets you print beyond iPhoto's limits?
