1000 MB of RAM Needed?

My Aperture wont start because it gives me a configuration error that I need 1000 MB of RAM. I've got the new G5 and my friend has got a G3 ibook but he got Aperture and it worked on his and I doubt hes got more RAM than me...is this true?

I got a 1GB ram chip at office depot this weekend and now my iMac is working much better at 1.5GB plus of course I was able to install Aperture. The install on my iMac was straightforward except that the three little screws don't come all the way out (you just loosen them, if you try to get them all the way out you might strip them); that and there was a little bit of cable that had to be scrunched slightly so that the little latch on the ram slot could be opened far enough on one side.
I think it is probably better to get the additional ram if you can afford it.

  • How much RAM needed for the DB box

    Hi,
Can someone share with me the technical way to do calculation of how much of RAM needed for a new Linux box with estimation of 500 users. I hope this calculation can also allow me to breakdown how much MEMORY needed for each session.
Please recommend any site that I can refer to if any. TQ.

My project start with Oracle 9i R2 (9206) on Linux (not yet confirm on the platform and etc). Just assume I will use Linux Red Hat Adv Sever latest version.
Hence how many GB of memory for the box is sufficient to handle 500 connections. Pls guide me the formula to derive the calculation. TQ

  • Does ram NEED to be installed in pairs

Hey guys, just purchased my Mac Pro about a week ago and I was looking to upgrade my ram. I ordered a 2 gig stick and it arrived yesterday but it won't install. I remember reading ram needed to be installed in pairs but I wasn't sure how true that was. Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

  • Sound Dropping Out in Monitors and Timeline (R3D and .wav files in 5.5) - More RAM Needed?

    Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?
Again, my computer specs are below.
    Thanks!

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
    Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (recently updated)
512 MB Memory (since updated to CS5.5 specifications)

There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.
    You want
    CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.
    Core I5 2500k
    16gb memory
    2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
    2TB media drive
    GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card  might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping.

  • More RAM needed?

Hi there, I have an iMac (May 2009) with 2.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2 GB 1067 MHz, DD3.
latterly the nefarious spinning wheel is appearing more and more often and I get Pageouts and swaps shortly after rebooting.
    At the moment swap 1.6Gb/2Gb
    Page outs 1.5M
I use a program that may use up to 1GB of ram, then I have Firefox and Thunderbird (big resource suckers) and Office for Mac (Word and/or Excel).
The performance of my computer seem to have been deteriorating in the last few months (still well usable, mind you), I wonder if it is the usage I make of it or there is something wrong with it (still under warranty).
If I need to expand the memory, can you give me some advice?
    Thanks.
    PS
I know this topic has been discussed over and over again, but I have been told by the power that be to open a new thread.

Thanks a lot for the info (and the link with the step-by-step illustration of how to do it...). Now all I need ot do id to find a seller in the UK that is not going to break the bank...
Besides, what memory size would you recommend? I wouldn't want to have an over spec machine with 8 Gb (OK, I know you can never have too much memory, but it doesn't come for free...).
    Thanks again.

  • Does the ram need to be installed in pairs on a PowerMac G5?

Hi, I recently inherited a dual 2.0 ghz Powermac G5. The computer is in fantastic condition, to be honest it looks new, however, I decided that I want to do some upgrades like the ram, OS and probably add a hard drive. I recently read somewhere that Powermacs need to have ram memories installed in pairs, is this true? I would really like to know before making any purchases to avoid any problems.

    Yes, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2248

  • Additional RAM needed

Trying to load new software, both of which tell me I need 1-2 GB of RAM. Where do I determine how much RAM I have, and can I simply buy and upload additional RAM to this model?
    Thanks.

    Hi

Apple Menu > About this Mac.
+"can I simply buy and upload additional RAM to this model?"+
Yes. You buy RAM and physically install it. Depending on the model you may be able to do this yourself with an appropriate screwdriver or pay/get an authorised Apple Technician (or someone else who is capable of doing it) to do it for you. There's no upload involved.

  • After Effects RAM needs 2 or more frames to playback

    ADOBE,
IT'S TIME TO FIX THIS ****, IMMEDIATELY!
I read a couple of forums dated months ago.  This problem needs to be in an update immediately, goddammit:(

If this is the RAM leak that's been mentioned before that happens in CC 2014 when scrubbing the timeline with audio, the fix is in an update that's coming within a month or so. Personally, I would like them to release it only when they're ready so that the update doesn't cause more bugs.
In the meantime, you can work in CC instead of CC 2014 to do any audio scrubbing you need to do. (You can Save As CC, if you need to get a CC 2014 project to be compatible with the previous version.) This bug should not be interfering with any your work as the issue is not present in CC. The previous version of CC is available from the CC app as shown here: Creative Cloud Help | Install, update, or uninstall apps
If this is a different issue entirely, we will need a lot more information in order to help you. FAQ: What information should I provide when ask a question?

  • 8 Go ram needs 64 bits with SL 10.6.7 ?

I have a 13' MBP Mid 2009 and i upgrade it with 8 Go Ram.
Must i boot with the 64 bits mode to have full advantage of the 8 Go ?

OK...but, if there is no advantage (speed, or performance) for 64 bits mode, why Apple gives that option ? For what use ?
I believe 32 bits mode can't adress more than 4 Go. Normally, MacOS 64 bits must run fastly with 8 Go ? Probably i miss something...
    Several reasons.
The 32-bit kernel man manage up to around 32GB of physical RAM, then it needs more address space for all the tables it needs to keep track of things.
At the current rate memory is doubling, high end Mac Pros will soon be unable to boot a 32-bit kernel, and in a few years laptops will start to have the option for huge amounts of memory.
While the 32-bit and 64-bit Mac OS X kernels can run BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit applications concurrently, the device drivers MUST be built to work with the bit size of the running kernel.  Snow Leopard gives 3rd party developers a chance to develope and debug their drivers and get customers to field them long before Apple goes 100% 64-bit kernel.
Go look at Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> Kind to see the mix of applications currently being run on your Mac.

  • MACBOOK RAM/Need Affordable/Compatible

I have 512 RAM and need at least 1MG or more. I also only have a 30 gig hardrive. Why would they sell that to me, when they know it takes more to run OS10. Oh well.
Anyway, Where should I get the RAM, how much should I get and do I need another 30 GIG or so hardrive space. I want to eliminate any compatibility problems.
I would like to get it all done in one swoop.
It it easy enough for me to install?
    Thanks
    DAVE

You can get compatible RAM here... http://www.newegg.com
At a MINIMUM,you have a 60 GB HD.That's the smallest HD Apple ever sold a MacBook with.
Installation of HD's and RAM into a MacBook is VERY easy.
You can find directions for both installations here... http://www.apple.com/support/manuals/macbook/

Ok, so I am about to buy a Mac Book Pro. My main interest is
to seriously lerarn Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Fireworks. I'll buy
    the new CS3.
This being said, could you give some advice on whether I
REALLY NEED 1GB or 2GB of RAM?
I will be starting and learning, but want to go totally pro

If you are serious, get as much RAM as you can afford. I
    haven't done
much testing of CS3 on a Mac, but I'm using 4GB of RAM on
    Windows Vista,
and get much better performance than with 2GB of RAM on
    Windows XP.

  • Ram needed to build initrd image

I hope I'm wrong: I'm getting the msg that 1.6 gig of ram is required to build an initrd image.
Someone please tell me I'm wrong!

Thanks for replying. I have one gig of ram. I didn't specify any modules. From you say it sounds like it automatically specifies all. I got the message that I needed 1.6 gig. I wasn't given the chance to specify anything.

  • Additional RAM needed for iMac G4 1.25 GHz

My iMac currently has 256 DDR SDRAM installed. I can't install Adobe Creative Suite as it needs 384 RAM.
My question, do I have to match the 256 in the empty slot on my machine, or can I get more RAM?
I assume also that I have another slot for more memory.
    Thanks
    jg

Undo four screws and you get to the User Slot. Undo a further 4 screws and you get to the Factory slot. It's not nearly as friendly to get to the factory slot but still very do-able. The iMac G4 20" takes up to 2Gb so you could put a 1Gb DIMM PC2700 184pin in the factory slot and 1Gb SODIMM PC2700 200pin in the User slot.If you open the case you must replace the thermal paste when you clsoe it up to prevent overheating.
    Here are the instructions.
I fold a blanket and put it on a table then place the screen carefully on that and then use a foam keyboard wrist rest to brace the dome whilst I undo screws.

  • Dell says my FourPoint Surround Sound FPS 1000 is outdated and needs to be tossed?

I have a set of five including woofer. They work fine on my old system, XP. Only two (whichever two are plugged into the green port) work on my new Dell, Vista. I have spent many hours on the phone with Dell only to finally be told that I needed to purchase Dell speakers. What I don't understand though is why when I open the control panel, click on configure speakers, I can hear all of them like I should? Then, as soon as I insert a dvd/audio cd, it returns to just the two plugged into the green port. It does not matter which two are plugged into the green port, I can plug in the black into the green port and will only have sound from those two. I have a black port and a green port on my tower for speakers. My speakers have a green male and a black male. When I plug them in they way they should be, I have sound from both although the sound coming from the black is hissing only. I have had these since 2002. Dell tells me they are outdated and I need to toss them and buy their new ones...

I think the problem is that the Adobe file DESCRIPTION for the file you just downloaded is 16.0r0, but the actual file is the .296 version.  (I think the .235 version is also vulnerable.  I downloaded today and got the .296 version.)
we need Adobe to fix the file description.  You can verify this by putting in the browser "about:plugins".
If you have the same issue I'm seeing you will see:
    File: NPSWF32_16_0_0_296.dll
    Path: C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_16_0_0_296.dll
    Version: 16.0.0.296
    State: Enabled
    Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
If you then go to the file in the PATH comment above, right click on the file and look at PROPERTIES you can see how the file is mis-labeled.  It must be that firefox is using that lable to derive the version.
