1000BASE-T question

Hi;
If i put an GLC-T (1000BASE-T SFP) on 6500 chassis, does it works with my 10/100 DSL modem. So; can GLC-T module set its speed to 100Mbps automatically?
Sorry for this amateur question?

Hi Dandy,
The 1000BASE-T SFP can support 10/100/1000 speeds only on the Cisco Catalyst 2970, 3560, and 3750 Series Switches.
Here is the link supporting my statement

  • How can i connect between WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX and GLC-LH-SMD ?

    Dear experts,
My customer has 6509 A-side and B-side core switches and need to migrate only 6509 B-side to Nexus.
    I have some question below.
    1. Customer's 6509A-side has multiple WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX and WS−G5486 1000BASE−LX links and it is connected to 6509B-side.
But customer bought only GLC-LH-SMD for Nexus migration of 6509B-side.
I understood BLC-LH-SMD doesn't support SX type, so I am worndering how i can connect between 2 different module ?
    Or should i have GLC-SX-MMD for WS−G5484 1000BASE−SX links ?
    2. Current Rack has LC type patch pannel from B-side to Rack A side.
But new Nexus A-side rack is located at different row and between these rack, there is only sc-type patch pannel.
So If i want to connect from LC-type to Sc-type patch pannel, how can i connect ? do i have to use SC-LC converter ?
    3. Old 6509 links use many MMF cable, and new Nexus use SMF.
Between same LX/LH links, if a side use MMF and another side use SMF, how can i connect each other ?
Again new Nexus A-side rack is located at different row and between these rack, there is only sc-type patch pannel.
Please let me know in detail, Thanks in advance, I really appreciate for your help.
    Jason.

  • Low bandwidth anomalies at a university: 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T

+Please note that this question was originally posted in another thread. In the hope of resolving this issue as quickly as possible, I’ve reposted this question in this thread- to cast the largest net, so to speak.+
Over the past several weeks, colleagues and I have been attempting to resolve low bandwidth and throughput problems experienced by users at our university. The entirety of these instances are located in one building on campus. Working with one faculty member extensively, we initially saw problems including low download speeds, and in certain instances, exceedingly high upload speeds. At a first approximation, I concluded that this was the result of a duplex mismatch. Upon further investigation, and the inclusion of university IT personnel, we were informed that the problem was supposedly not related to a duplex mismatch, but rather a platform specific anomaly, specifically related to Macs and their supposed inability (or at the very least limited ability) to employ auto-negotiation protocols with any degree of success.
My colleagues and I dismissed this almost entirely as ignorance or prejudicial. Was this an error?
In order to test that hypothesis, we connected a PC to one of the drops in question; no substantial change in bandwidth was detected.
However, during one meeting, it was communicated to us that by switching from the extant 100BASE-TX connections to a Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) connection that any low bandwidth issues would be resolved. Having made the transition for two machines, we have been unable to verify that the expected improvement was made respective to the new standard. Under the 100BASE-TX connections, we observed a range of download rates as low as 10-20kb/s and as fast as 4-10 Mb/s. After the switch to Gigabit Ethernet, the maximum download rate we’ve seen has been 80Mb/s; the average rate is substantially lower, usually floating in a range of 10-18 Mb/s. In any event, these represent a staggeringly low fraction of the expected available bandwidth.
I’ve adjusted TCP buffer sizes (albeit with the Apple Broadband Tuner, not via the terminal), adjusted frame sizes (up to jumbo frames) and confirmed numerous times that the auto-negotiation protocols are indeed working client-side. On all the affected machines the speed (1000BASE-T) is set automatically, as are the duplex mode and MTU. Adjusting these settings manually seemingly has no effect.
The affected machines include two Mac Pro workstations (quad core 3GHz and a eight-core 2.8 GHz), a MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz, 15 inch) a dual processor G5 tower (liquid cooled 2.5 GHz model), a Dell PC (for testing purposes only- see above), and a 500 MHz G4. The problem persists in various drops in the building, seemingly randomly.
My suspicion is that the problem exists on the server-end; either a switch or router is configured incorrectly or perhaps a cabling problem exists? Unfortunately, the university’s IT personnel are not providing any answers. I’m wondering if I’ve overlooked something (basic or otherwise) that might be contributing to these problems?
    Thanks in advance!

    No.

What do you mean by "no change"? Does the PC run fast or slow like the Macs? If the PC runs slow, then you should be able to use that fact to get the network fixed.

First, you need to clarify a couple of things. Does a PC work correctly in this building? Does a Mac from the building work correctly in another building. You can try going to some random office store and buying the absolute cheapest 100BT hub and plugging that into the network and plug the Macs into the new hub. How is the speed?
The problem is almost certainly wiring problems or a flaky router or hub. Unfortunately, no IT department in the world will even give you the time of day if "Macs" are involved. You have to prove that there is a problem that does not involve the Macs. For that, you'll need a PC or a hub. This is the one job that Mac can't do.

  • Some questions about WS-G5484

what means of WS in WS-G5484?
    what means of 1000BASE-SX?
i know this is a idiot question, but my custom just ask me.and i must keep good relationship with them.
did any one have any well explain? thank you for reply.

    Hi
There are different type of GBICs available in market which basically differs based on the distance it supports or upto the max distance it can carry the signals..
    GBIC-SX WS-G5484 1000BASE-SX short-wavelength GBIC (Multimode only)
    GBIC-LX/LH WS-G5486 1000BASE-LX/LH long-haul GBIC (single mode or multimode)
    GBIC-ZX WS-G5487 1000BASE-ZX extended-reach GBIC (single mode)
Also refer ths link which throws more lite on the wavelength it operates and the max distance it can go up..
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_data_sheet09186a008014cb5e.html
you have to take care of patch (fiber)cables which you use to connect them up.
Again there are 2 different modes one is single mode and the other one is multimode.
The above mentioned does contains the details of fiber patch cords which can be used to connect them up..

  • Can the SFP-10G-SR down-support connect to SFP 1000BASE-SX ?

    Hi everybody:
today i use the SFP+ "SFP-10G-SR" in Cisco Catalyst 2960S-48TD-L connect to  1000BASE-SX SFP in 6509's module WS-X6724-SFP.
the port setting is trunk, but they don't work, even the led don't flush. then i also use the 1000BASE-SX SFP to replace SFP+ SFP-10G-SR in
    2960S-48TD-L, then they cany working.
i look up the cisco data sheet , there are no data sheet to satament the 10G sfp+ can't down support 1G sfp. so i want to confirm the problem.
    otherwise, the 10 SFP+ only can use for 10G SFP+ ; can't down suport 1G SFP.
this means: if  you want to use the 10G SFP+ the other old device also need to replace.
    thanks~for your help!!

    Hi Marvin,
I found this conversation today, as I am looking for answer on question similar to question that Jerry asked, while opening this discussion.
So, my problem is the following. At some location, I need two 10GB and one 1GB connection over optical cables. To minimize costs, I tried with WS-C2960X-48FPD-L, but as it contain only two SFP+ ports, I tried with two WS-C2960X-24PD-L that will be connected with stack modules.
So, having two WS-C2960X-24PD-L, I can have 2 x 2 1GB SFP+ ports. There are two opened questions:
    1. Can I put 1GB SFP transceiver module in SFP+ port (as I must have one 1GB connection to remote site)?
    2. Can I use stack of two mentioned 2960 24-port switches, in a way that I use one of them for two 10GB connections (using SFP+ ports for 10GB connection), and second member of the stack in a way that one (of two available) SFP+ port is used for 1GB SFP connection (using SFP+ port as mentioned in question 1)?
I am not sure if your previous statement covers my questions, as it is not clear if 1GB SFP transceiver can be inserted in SFP+ port on WS-C2960X-24PD-L (or any other switch that has SFP+ port).

  • Media types, optics questions

    Hello Experts,
I am a lot confused about the different types of optics and media types. I will try to list some of my confusions:
I think when we say "optics", it means the same thing as transceivers...sfp,sfp+ etc are kind of transceivers, right?
Is media type one of: "copper" or "fiber"?
If copper is the media type, then what transceivers can be put on each side of the cable?
If fiber is the media type, then what optics/transceivers can be put on each side of the cable?
Is it necessary to have same types of optics at each end of the cable?
can a copper cable be connected to an RJ45 port at one end and to a 1000Base-LX/LH on other end? Or is 1000Base-LX/LH is just for fiber and no copper?
I am also confused about what all optics are compatible with each other...for eg, if I want to have some optic at one end, how can I find out what optics are compatible with it and can be used at other end.
What is meant by connector and optics? What is LC/SC connector, SR/LR optics...
Sorry these are beginner questions and may have been answered already. But I could not find any single doc which could have explained things clearly.
    So any help is appreciated.

  • Part number for 1000Base-T SFP in CSS 11503 and CSS11506 Gigabit IO Modules

    Question 1:
    ===========
I am looking through the CSS11500 Series Hardware installation guide at this link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/css11500series/v8.20_v8.10/installation/guide/instg.html
I can find Cisco P/N of the Fibre GBIC SFPs and they are called CSS5-GBIC-LX and CSS5-GBIC-SX but I cannot find the P/N of the 1000Base-T UTP SFP. Is there something like CSS5-GBIC-T or do I just get a GLC-T that is the P/N used on may Cisco Products for providing 1000Base-T connectivity?
    2. On the CSS5-SCM-2GE and on the CSS5-IOM-2GE - Are the GBICs interchangable between these two modules? Meaning are the GBICs for these two modules the same?

    Hi,
In regards to question #1. The part number we use when processing an RMA is:
    GLC-T=; QTY: 1; Desc: 1000BASE-T SFP
As for question #2, the GBICs are the same for both of those blades.

  • 3550 Switch -Fiber interface VLAN question

    Hello,
I will deploying two Cisco 3550 Switches and connecting them via a ordinary multimode fiber with GBIC 1000BASE-SX - transceivers installed on each switch. Here is my question: I will be configureing about half of the ports on each of the switches to be in one of two VLANS. I would like to configure the two vlans to run over the single fiber line. Is is possible to configure one fiber port, with the GBIC 1000BASE-SX - transceiver installed, with two vlans and/or subinterfaces each with half of the 1000mb of bandwidth, or will I need to run an additional fiber line connected to the second fiber interface on the 3550 to accomplish this. I really hope not to as I don't have the funds to run a second line at this time. If this configuration is possible could someone please point me to documentation on how to configure this and\or give some advice. Thank you.
    Regards,
    JPS

Just set up the link as a trunk , this allows you to send as many vlans across that link as you want . On each side just do the following.
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk mode dynamic desirable
Verify trunk status with the "show int trunk " command.

  • Questions on Cisco SF300-24P

Does anybody in this discussion know if this switch supports any SFP's that use the
1000BASE-BX10-D and 1000BASE-BX10-U specs?  The compatibility chart says nay but it can't hurt to ask.
    I know it's a longshot.
    thx,

    Sean,
You just hijacked an 18 month old thread about an unrelated subject! In order to have the best chance of getting an answer to your question, you should probably start a new thread on your subject.
Having said that, the switch model in the subject of this thread is an SF300 switch, which is only a 10/100 switch, so the answer is probably "no". Perhaps the SG300 switches, which are gigabit switches, might support what you are looking for.

  • Questions on Print Quote report

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to Oracle Quoting and trying to get familiar with it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone answers them
    1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
    2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
    3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
    4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.

  • Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty

    HI EVERYBODY
I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.
    chears
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
I have already found you other threads.
    Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.

  • Anyone know how to remove Overdrive books from my iphone that have been transferred from my computer? They do not show up on itunes. I see a lot of answers to this question but they all are based on being able to see the books in iTunes.

How do I remove Overdrive books from the library that were downloaded onto my computer then transferred to my iphone? The problem is that they do not show up in iTunes.
I see this question asked a lot when I google, but they always give answers that assumes you can find the books in iTunes either under the books tab, or the audio books tab or in the music. They do not show up anywhere for me. They do not remove from the app like the ones I downloaded directly onto my iphone.the related archived article does not answer it either.  I even asked a guy working at an apple store and he could not help either.   Anybody...?

  • Basic question

Hello, i have a basic question. if i have defined 2 fields in a cube or a dso:
    Name Quantity
and from the external flat file i get some characters for my quantity field. would my load fail?  for standard dso and for write optimized?
NOTE: quantity field is a keyfigure defined as numeric.
and the load coming in has "VIKPATEL" for Quantity field and not numbers.
    thanks

    Hi Vik,
    Yes, the load will fail.
May be you coud first load this data into BW (into PSA) and set both fields as characters fields. Then you can create DSO, do transformation from this PSA to the DSO, and put your logic as to what do you want to do with those Quantity that is not number (e.g. convert to 0, or 'Not assgined', etc).
You can use transfer rule, or a clean up ABAP code in the start routine.
    Hope this helps.
