104 Unsupported Wireless Network Device Detected

Opening up the computer this morning i have a message that says:   104-Unsupported wireless network device detected.  System halted.  Remove device and restart.
There are no additional devices added or changed before putting laptop in hibernation for the night last night.  Odd.  Any suggestions?

Hi
In case you are comfortable reseat the Wireless card from the back panel also try to visit HP website and update the Bios for your unit and see if this fixes your issue.

    Hi:
Did you just install a wireless card?  You get that error if you install an unsupported wireless card. If you did not make any changes to your PC then I don't know what to tell you.

  • 104-unsupported wireless network device detected - yet replaced with like for like card!

    Hi,
I am repairing a friends laptop where their wireless is no longer working.
I ordered a new card on ebay which is the same model Broadcom BCM4311KFBG however I still get the above message.
How is it not accepting this card? Surely it's in the whitelist? It is exactly the same card except for the original had a "P20" stamped on the chip (as well as the BCM4311KFBG model number) and this new one had "P11".
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Unsupported wireless network device detected

    Hi guys,
I had to change the motherboard of my DV9420US; I bought a new motherboard from Megabyte Trading, the part number was the same (444002-001) and they told me it was an HP piece. However, after the technician replaced it, the following error appears when booting and forces me to shut down:
"104-unsupported wireless network device detected. System halted. remove device and restart".
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
It starts to be disappointing: I have already spent over 400 bucks to repair the original motherboard first and buy a new one after, with the result that my laptop does not work yet.
    Thanks.

Remove the wireless card and boot into the notebook. Once into windows you will have to hardwire the notebook into an internet connection and go to HP.com. Place your PN number in the search and go to the software and driver downloads find the BIOS header and download the most update BIOS and flash the BIOS for the notebook. Once this has completed replace the WLAN and boot it back up, should fix the issue.

Okay, so i went upnorth with my family and my  Lenovo 3000 c100 worked perfectly one night, the next morning I woke up and turned on my laptop and i got this message "Warning Unsupported wireless network device detected. System halted. Please remove device and restart". I've tried to boot into bios it wouldn't let me. It says to interrupt normal startup press the lenovo care button???, i'm guessing it's the wrench with a square around it located near the power button?. I have found nothing to fix this problem and i need my laptop for work tomorrow.

  • Error 104 unsupported network device!!!!!!

I've bought a new wireles mini pci network card.
I put it in my laptpop and all i get is error 104 unsupported network card detected.
    Help!!!!!!

    Hi:
if you did not purchase a supported wireless adapter that is listed in your notebook's service manual with the HP part number on it that is why you got the error.
HP locks out of the BIOS any wireless cards that are not listed in the service manual.
This method is how HP has chosen to comply with wireless communications regulations regarding SAR and interference. Cards and notebook antenna systems have to be tested and validated to work within certain measurements.
More information regarding this can be found in this document below:
While this specifically deals with US regulations, other countries also have similar regulations, I'm sure.
Since HP is a US based company, it complies with US regs.

There is nothing you can do except to remove the card.

  • IPhone 4s with iOS 8.1: Wireless networks not detected

My iPhone has ceased to detect any wireless networks. When I am trying to turn WLan off and on again, the settings app is extremely slow or hangs or the phone crashes and reboots.
I have reset the network settings several times with no improvement. I have mad a soft reset with no improvement. Does anyone have any ideas how this might be solved?
    Thank you!

I had to do a complete reset of my iPhone 4s for another reason (the new iTunes could not access my Phone...). Afterwards wifi networks could be detected more often, even connection was possible sometimes. However this connection still is very unstable and frequently interrupted when used.
Just now, the iPhone rebootet while I was making a call... These wifi problems are just the top of an iceberg of problems I am having since I've installed iOS 8
I sincerely hope the announced 8.1.1 solves them (but I don't really believe my iPhone will ever be what it used to be). I doubt an iPhone is the right purchase for my next phone. There are other manufacturers out there who dont' force their customers to use a malfunctioning release of their operating system. I am talking about signing: It isn't even possible to downgrade and install a working os.
Apple, I loved you so much because you had beautiful products that work seamlessly. With iOS 8 you broke my heart. My iPhone is now a beautiful and useless brick of electronic garbage. From this day forward, I shall regard you as just another hardware manufacturer selling your products at unreasonable prices. Good luck with that. The question if you are able to uphold quality, innovation and design of your products without Steve Jobs has now certainly been answered.

I have never come across a wireless access point to be using WEP and WPA. It is normal for a WAP to require wpa or wep not at the same time.
When connecting to the access point with the WEP key do you add it to the keychain.
Also is your company aware that WEP is not secure at all and can easily be cracked by even amatuer crackers. Therefore if the access point is using a wep key as well as a wpa key it may as well be wide open.

  • New 15" MBP will not connect to my wireless network

This is my first Mac, so I will try to give as much information as possible.
I have a brand new (got it yesterday) 15" MBP and it refuses to connect to my home wireless network.  It is an older "g" network using a Linksys router and 128bit WEP encryption.  For reference - I have an iPad and 2 iPhones in my household, and those have all connected to the same network without problem, as have the 2 windows laptops that my wife & I use for work so I don't think it's the network.
Anyway - I fired up the MBP and went through the set up assistant.  When I try to join my wireless network, it detects the network fine.  I select the network and try to connect.  It goes throught the process and then I get a prompt that says "Network conditions have changed".  I click OK and it prompts me to enter the password for the wireless network.  (At this point I have the little exclamation point in the wifi symbol on the top of the screen telling me I have no internet access - which I believe is how it's supposed to look).
On the password screen, I select "WEP 40/128 Hex" as the password type -  on the security information screen in the router set-up it says "WEP 26 hex 128 bit" as the type, so I believe that's the correct password type for the MBP.  I enter the 26 digit key (the same one that I used to connect the iPad/iPhones) and after trying to connect for a couple minutes I get the "Network conditions have changed" prompt again.  I click OK, and then it tells me it failed to connect to the network.
I have tried entering the WEP key with a "$" in front of it and entering it with "0x" or "0X" in front of it and the same thing happens.  I've also tried changing the password type to "WEP Password" and entering the password I used in the router to generate the hex key, and the same thing - it tries to connect and then I get the "Network conditions have changed" prompt and it tells me it failed to connect.
I am at a loss.  I haven't touched the router's settings because everything else I have (Apple and non-Apple products) have all connected just fine - all I've had to do is enter the WEP key and they have connected.
What am I doing wrong?  Is the MBP somehow different and I need to change something in the router settings?  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, BT Hubs do not play well with HP printers, probably because they do not strictly follow wifi standards.
One thing to try is to change your encryption to WPA ONLY.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Can I connect my Mac to two separate wireless networks at the same time?

Need some assistance with some advanced wireless networking please....
Upstairs I have a D-link wireless router connected to the internet and wired to a couple of PCs. Downstairs I have a minimac linked to my hifi via an airport express. I have bought a D-Link DWL-G122 usb wifi dongle.
So I want the mini mac to connect to the airport express on one wireless network (strong signal) and to be able to connect to the internet on another network (weak signal) via the usb wifi /router.
But the airport software and the d-link driver seem to conflict and both try to take control of the two wireless devices.
Is there any way round this to be able to run one mac with two wireless network devices at the same time?
    Thanks

While those with more experience may be able to correct me, I'm pretty sure that you can only connect to one wireless network at a time with your Mac Mini, unless D-Link provides their own proprietary software that bypasses the computer's Airport settings.
Using the AirPort hardware you can only connect to a single wireless network at any given time. However in this situation the 2 attempted connections are via USB and AirPort. Therefore this requires nothing special of the AirPort drivers or settings.
It does require that the Mac OS and applications have the capability to use either network connection (USB or AirPort) depending on what data they are trying to get. In general I understand how it is theoretically possible but I have no idea if you can configure OS X to do it.
...I believe one of the options when setting up the Airport Extreme Base Station is that you can extend a wireless network already in place.
True but the D-Link is not compatible with Apple's WDS therefore this is not possible in this situation.
If you have a newer Airport Extreme Base Station with a USB port on it...
FYI, every AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) has a USB port.
BTW, birky has indicated that he/she is using an AirPort Express (AX) not an AEBS.

  • Wireless Network Does Not Always Connect Successfully on HP ENVY 5644

Just purchased a new HP ENVY 5644 device to replace an existing my HP Photosmart C4380. Powered the new device on for the first time and ran through the initial setup using the integrated touchscreen. Everything seemed to go both easily and smoothly, without any errors and even connected to my home wireless network on the first attempt.
I next tested both printing and scanning features, each of which provided extremely pleasing results and good performance over the wireless network.
Unfortunately, this is where my happy story ends and the trouble begins!
Having initially setup the device in a temporary location, I correctly powered down in preparation of relocating it to its final resting position. Although this was to be in a different room of the house, it was in fact closer to the wireless network router itself. In reality, we are talking a very negligible distance as the 2 rooms are actually back to back to one another. So now with it in the new position and connected to a power outlet, I switched the device on once again. The device powers up and the blue LED indicator which signifies the wireless connection status, continuously flashes blue rather than a steady solid blue. The flashing blue indicates that the device cannot establish a wireless network connection. If I use the touchscreen to investigate the issue I find that there appears to be an Authentication Problem and the message details are Incorrect wireless password (WPA) entered.
Why has this happened? Nothing has changed, all I did is move the printer into another room!
Believing what the touchscreen tells me, I decided to run the Wireless Setup Wizard once more to affirm the wireless network settings. As expected, it manages to find my home wireless network without any issues and then requests that the password key is entered. I therefore enter this correctly and press apply. It is at this point that the device attempts to make a connection to the network, which unfortunately fails, returning the above error message. However, I know that I entered the password correctly, in fact there is an option to show the password you have entered prior to attempting the connection, which upon checking confirms that the password I entered is the correct one!
So why does it not connect?
I have tried switching the wireless feature on and off several times via the touchscreen interface but this did not resolve the issue. The only way to get the wireless connection back online is to keep switching the device on and off again until the wireless LED indicator stays on solid blue. For no apparent reason, the wireless connection seems to have a mind of its own, only successfully connecting to my wireless network when it wishes to!
I do not have any issues with the numerous other wireless network devices I have in my home, from multiple manufacturers and even located in other multiple rooms of the home. I know my wireless network is good and I know my wireless password like the back of my own hand, so there is no chance of this being incorrect. This is purely a problem for the HP ENVY 5644 device itself, which can be confirmed by the fact that if I switch it off and on again, it might decide to make a successful connection even though I did nothing to its own network configuration nor to my own wireless network configuration itself.
Wondering whether or not it might be some obscure incompatibility between my wireless router and the HP ENVY 5644, I tested the device with another spare router that I have, which was also from a different manufacturer but sadly the result was the same, the HP ENVY 5644 only connected when it wanted to and would only establish the connection to the wireless network upon switching on the device. If the connection fails, it will never connect to the network unless you switch it off and then back on again, which might even require to be attempted several times before successful. Once connected, it appears to remain connected and then functions really well.
This behaviour is not acceptable and I’m sure this can’t be too healthy for the device itself to be switched on and off again in such short cycles. Otherwise, on the whole, as I said earlier, I am very happy with the product.
Can someone at HP tell me why this is happening or suggest what else I need to look for or consider.

Spoke with HP engineer the other day. I explained what was happening and they suggested doing a factory reset and then setting the IP address manually rather than using the DHCP of my home wireless router.
I wasn't too happy about that as everything was setup nicely and working, with the exception of the WiFi not reconnecting on every power on. I had also gone one better in fact, by adding a DHCP reservation within my router using the MAC address of the printer. This in effect is the best of both worlds as the printer will be given the same IP address by the router every time it requests one.
We agreed to leave things as they stand rather than factory reset the printer and that I would now power off the printer everyday. For the past 4 days, the printer has reconnected to the WiFi upon every power on. This is great news.
I have a call scheduled with HP in a few days time to discuss how things have been going. If all continues as is, it would appear than specifying a DHCP reservation in the wireless router resolves the issue. Whilst I await the next call with HP, I am continuing to power on and off the printer on a daily basis.

  • Wireless Network Not Working In Bootcamp

I have an early 2006 MacBook Pro running on Snow Leopard and I just ran Bootcamp and installed Windows Xp Pro Service Pack 2. My wireless network adaptor is an Atheros AR5006X. I've installed the drivers in Windows from the Snow Leopard disc and the hardware is recognized, and wireless networks are detected. But I can't connect to any network. I've tried going into Advanced Settings, disabled firewall, I've tried manually setting it up as a preferred network, and I've tried a few other versions of the Atheros drivers from the Internet. Nothing has worked. It always says,
"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again."
The signal strength can even be strong and it still won't connected. I never had this problem when I first used bootcamp with the same windows xp sp2, and with the original Leopard drivers disc that you burned when configuring bootcamp.
    Please help. Thanks.

There are a number of discussions on this topic. In my previous response, I was referring to the first thread:

It seems that the basic theme is that if you already installed the Leopard drivers, you will need a non-wireless (USB) keyboard to use/fix it. At this point, you will then need to go and setup the bluetooth to the wireless keyboard. My wireless mouse worked, so that was not a problem -- just the keyboard. I tried using the USB keyboard and seting up the bluetooth to the wireless keyboard, but I could not get it to recognize the bluetooth keyboard. It seems to recognize it for a brief instant, and then report and error.
I've gotten tired of iterating over this issue, so I haven't read through all of the threads. There may be a better one out there that I've missed...

  • Wireless Networking for G5?

Where can I buy an airport card for my G5 that works? At this office they have a wireless network setup. All of the other computers are windows based and they connect without problem. I bought this usb wireless networking device but was unable to connect successfully. Anyone got any ideas on a usb airport card or some other kind of airport card I can buy for my G5 so that I can connect wirelessly to the network? I need the device and some information on how to configure it. All help is appreciated and NEEDED.

    Hi Rhino
I had the same problem - bought the dual core and then couldn't get the airport extreme anywhere for love or money. I solved it in the following way, and it's working great:
    - For the bluetooth I used a Sitecom bluetooth USB adapter. This is something I had from an old laptop, but it worked fine in the Mac, didn't even require any additional drivers
    - For the wireless I used a Belkin F5D7330 wireless 802.11g bridge. This connects to the wired ethernet port with a normal network cable, and relays all the data on to my wireless router. It works fine, and has the advantage over the internal wireless that the bridge can be placed in the most receptive position for the wireless signal. In the past I have had problems with computers placed under the desk picking up a weak wireless signal.
The total cost was a couple of euros less than the Apple built in card, and didn't require opening the G5.
Note: before I bought the Belkin wireless bridge I tried the D-Link equivalent - this did not work, so save yourself the bother and don't buy it! There is also a wireless bridge from LinkSys which supposedly works, but I haven't tried it.
