1066 ram settings on K9A2 Platinum

Hey every one,
I want to buy this ram    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104073,
But in the reviews, i saw that i have to manually adjust the voltage & the bus speed ratio or something like that rite ?
Well i don't know much about it. Some one please help me out here.
My specs are:
AMD Athlon X2 6000+   (will change to Phenom II 720)
Msi K9A2 Platinum         Bios version is 1.7 so no worries for phenom support
Ati 4850                    ( WIll change it to EVGA gtx 260 core 216 SC edition)
Windows Vista 32bit.    ( will also change this to windows 7 soon)
So please tell me how to change the Voltage & the ratio in the Bios.      Thank You

Yes, definitely read the sticky. It will help you out.
Basically, what the people are telling you about that RAM on newegg, is that it is DDR2-800, with an enhanced over clocked profile, which needs extra voltage for the increased mhz (unfortunately this does mean it will run with a more relaxed latency).
In my experience, seeing as I too have enhanced profile DDR2-800 chips, is you won't see much of a performance increase (if any) between the 2 settings. I've done benchmark run after benchmark run, and while there is an increase between the two profiles, for gaming it's negligible at best.
Pretty much, you'd be asking for a bit more voltage our of your power supply for those chips if you were to run them at the 1066 spec. I have the same motherboard, but I am using G. Skill memory. Like I said, I have run both profiles with benchmarks to see if there is a difference. There is a difference, but it's not a lot, due to the more relaxed latency at 1066.

  • K9A2 Platinum - RAM at 800 instead of 1066

Thanks for the help previously, my machine is booting now.  However, I am getting BSoD that say 'MEMORY_MANAGEMENT' at random times when I had the RAM running at 1066 Mhz.  I changed the BIOS multiplier to 1:2 which gives me 800MHz DDR2 speed equivalency and now I am getting no beeps or BSoD.  This is not a huge deal but I just read somewhere that you get a reasonable performance increase with 1066 Mhz compared to 800 Mhz.  Any ideas how I can get the full speed of my RAM?

I need some help here if anyone is able to help me I would appreciate it. I just upgraded to the Phenom II x2 (940) AM+2.  Everything is fine, but at this time I would like to move to PC8500 Ram from PC6400.  I am waiting for my new gskil 4G 1066 RAm.  It is supposed to run at 2.1v with timings of 5-5-5-15.  I am guessing my bios should auto sense the ram, but in the event that it does not I am not clear on what settings I need to change.  I noted that if i change the timings from 1:1 (settings for the 800, and it shows ram to be 800) to something like 1:3 66, it changes the ram to 1066.  Would this be the only setting I need to change, or do I need to change the other auto settings for the CAS etc to 5-5-5-5-15 and I guess which ones, there is a a large list of settings with many letters such as Trs etc.  It also appears that the voltage settings are on auto, but i dont seem to be able to change those even by hitting enter etc.  Sorry to sound so dumb, but I am just not sure here.  Thanks.

  • K9A2 Platinum RAM issues

    Hey.
I recently purchased this board and have been trying to get it to run stable using 4 sticks of twinmos PC2-5300 2GB DDR2. I managed to get it running to the point where I was able to boot into windows by setting the ram voltage and CL in the bios. But after getting a blue screen while running vistas windows experience test. I am unable to get the machine to boot with anymore then 1 stick of ram in there. Is there any extra settings in the bios that I can use to make it more stable? The only settings I changed was the first three in the advanced ram timing option, which i set to 5 for each one. I skipped the fourth option and set the fifth option to 15, I also adjusted the ram voltage to 1.80 V. I also tried upping the voltage to 1.90 but it did not seem to help. My full system specs are as follows.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Can't say, maybe CPU-z programmers are not that far yet on reading that info.
It involves a whole lot of AMD techdoc reading and testing to read values out of the CPU, and they changed the memory controller / working another time, so I can imagine it will take a few more version for them to have that working.
    BTW dude, see FAQ (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php#faq)

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum + ocz 1066 runs 800mhz?!?

Ive tried all i can do to get this memory to run at proper speeds. I updated the bios to the most current version 1.6. I tried setting the voltage and latency settings in there manually. The ratio button does not give me a option higher that 1:2. It makes the memory run at 800mhz. Im not the first to have this problem as i have googled and found many with the same problem yet i haven't come across a solution that helps me.

Might want to help out a provider of your motherboards from receiving future negative feedback and have them correct the way they display the memory standard. To those that don't research a board from the providers site. I feel deceived and i don't think i will use a msi product ever again. But thats all talk and if the price is right i might. Im just a little pissed off about this. Know of anything that can get it to 1066? why does it only work with am2+?
"Might want to help out a provider of your motherboards from receiving future negative feedback and have them correct the way they display the memory standard."
As you can see its stated clear at MSI Web ==> http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1332
"I feel deceived and i don't think i will use a msi product ever again. But thats all talk and if the price is right i might. Im just a little pissed off about this."
That's pure no sense. As i already told you that has nothing to do with the mainboard.
Newegg is not MSI problem, but there is listed correctly too. Board can support 1066 memory sticks.
As you can see you are currently use 1066 memory sticks without problem,
at what frequency will they run that's another story and do not depend from the mainboard, but from the CPU used.
"Know of anything that can get it to 1066? why does it only work with am2+?"
Because the CPU works in that way. Memory controller integrated in the CPU can works at 800 max.
For 1066, you need latest AM2+ generation CPU which memory controller support 1066.
For more info you can ask AMD or to read AMD Tech docs.

  • K9A2 Platinum, freezing (total lockup) + running 4x1GB 1066MHz ram

    Hi,
just built a pc using the K9A2, after i got it built it was freezing all the time (like 20 to 30 times in the first day) most of the time in IE7, it hasn't in a game yet, it didn't show any errors in an hour of memtest86 nor in 2 hours of prime95 long and short FFT, but after the first day and a half it stoped doing it, but now a few days on it just locked up again in IE7 again.
    any ideas
    thanks
edit: update, ran a newer version of memtest, and it freezes at about the same time both times at 11'ish minutes so i'm now guessing it's a ram issue, i'm in contact with amd support (who a few days ago assured me it wasn't a CPU problem, it was a MS problem even though i asked about the ram and speed), to ask again if the cpu can run the amount of ram at the speed it's running.

ok, i will ask them about the LEDs.
.. will be interesting to see if they know, as most of the time my problems seem to much for technical support this one should be right in there area, unless they just get up a pdf of my manual, cos it won't be in there.
got my reply from support about the LED's, not as good as bas's
    Question
    LED's on my motherboard
Hi i have 3 LED's on my motherboard (K9A2 platinum) and they are not in the manual can you tell me what they are for,.
    thank you

    now thats funny!!
there aren't even lights on the usb ports, there on the LAN port,.. i'm guessing that as there not in the manual there not there in their mind, and the only led's they could find in the manual were the LAN ones, but i still haven't got a clue why they're calling them USB LED's,.. hay bas how do you get a line to a real tech?

  • LED's on K9A2 Platinum board?! + RAM

    Hello There.
I have yet another question about the famous K9A2 Platinum.
On the board, there are some different LED's. An orange stand-by, that turns on, when the system is plugged in.
Then another two LED's turn on, when I start the system: A white one, and a green one (right beneath the RAM slots).
I have looked in the manual, googled and searched this forum.
What in the world, does the white and green LED mean?????
Any Color codes?? Logically I would guess something RAM related, hence their placement. But why LED's when the BIOS
    uses beep codes??
Further I get 1 short beep, then 2 short beeps. When I look them up, I find that there is some problem with the memory.
1 short beep = DRAM refresh failure
2 short beep = Memory parity failure
    http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/amibeep.htm
    My system is as follows:
    RAM: Kingston HyperX 4 x 1GB PC-8500
    CPU: AMD Phenom 9850 BE
    GPU: ATI Radeon HD3870
    HDD: WD Raptor 150 GB
I have switched and tried different modules (of the 4 in the kit), and adjusted in the BIOS. Still the same error.
Maybe the RAM is broken?? I am yet to try third party RAM module, for testing.
My PSU is "only" 400 W, could it be possible, that it is too little??
    Thanks in advance!
    ...Mark

Well, I have tried to measure how many watts my computer uses.
If I play HL2:ep2 or if I render some projects in MentalRay, I cannot push the computer beyond 350 watts.
Anyway I have orderet a 650W PSU today. Then I should have pleanty of power, also if I someday want to
    use crossfire.
Think so? Sorry, you are wrong.
I have seen 650W powersupplies that can only do 17A @ 12V, as your system uses 12V the most, such a PSU 17 x 12 = 204W, so it can not do it.
Forget Watts they mean NOTHING, only look at 12V amps, the more the better.
Also for 350W max use, you need a ~600W powersupply BUT with loads of 12V amps...not something like my example as it will explode.
A decent 650W Powersupply has something like 45A @ 12V (single rail) and then you know you have a good one.

    Hello,
With the above configuration, I get no beeps nor video display when powering on the PC.  When PC is powered on, CPU fan spins, GPU fan spins, HD makes noise, butcannot power off via power button.  GPU and PSU work fine with another system, as well as the HD.  Tried booting with 1 stick of RAM and changing slot placement - no success.  Tried booting with minimum devices attached - no success.
I had the same problem with the same board and I obtained an RMA, after experiencing the same problem with the new board I am under the impression that something is wrong with my hardware setup.
Thank you very much for any suggestions, I've been messing around with the PC for weeks and can't seem to find/produce a solution.  Is it possible I may need to file another RMA?

You know, I would agree with you, but the memory is a PC-8500 kit, rated at ddr2-1066, thus I'm not actually overclocking them. I'm attempting to just clock them, if you will, rather than run them underclocked. Happy new year, btw!
Yes you are. That's heavy OC settings:

Okay, got my compy workin again! Lo and behold, it wasn't the board after all. My sincerest apologies. Ordered new ram, OCZ Platinum DDR2-1066 2x2 Gb, plugged it in, and the machine fired right up. There was much rejoicing.
Anyway, I have a new problem:
Before my compy died, I had the CPU and RAM overclocked to 3.2 GHz and 1066 MHz, respectively. Worked great. Now, however, I cannot get my system to POST when I try to overclock it to those speeds. The fastest I can get it stable is 3.192GHz, with the following settings:
    CPU FSB: 266
    HT Ratio: x4
    CPU Mult: x12
    CPU Freq: 3192 MHz
RAM set at 5-5-5-15, FSB/Mem 1:1.66, Adjusted DDR frequency 1064, CPU-Z says 1058, no biggie.
    CPU Voltage: 1.399 V
    RAM Voltage: 2.2 V
    Here's the settings I try for 3.2GHz and 1066:
    CPU FSB: 320
    HT: x4
    CPU Mult: x10
RAM still at 5-5-5-15, for 1066MHz
No go at all. Spread Spectrum disabled, Cool N Quiet disabled
    Thanks!
"I'm attempting to just clock them, if you will, rather than run them underclocked. "
Only AM2+ CPU can support 1066.
You use "AMD 5000+ BE", support 800.
    Main Memory
    • Supports Dual DDR2 533/667/800/1066 (1066 for AM2+ only)
    - 4 DDR2 DIMMs (240pin / 1.8V)
    - Supports a maximum memory size up to 8GB.

  • K9A2 Platinum Raid problem

Hi i have 4 days trying to install my new system. And the mobo do not want to recognize the drives in sata 5 and 6, those controlled by promise.
    My system specs:
    Phenom 9600
    MSI k9a2 platinum
6 samsung hard drives SATAII 7200 rpm
8gb ram Corsair Dominator 1066 MHZ
    2 x Diamond ati HD3870 512 mb GDDR4
    Thermal take toughpower 850W PSU
    I want to run:
RAID 1+0 With 4 drives of 320GB each using sb600 controller
and two 320 GB single drives, NON RAID on the promise controller.
How can i run this config on my mobo? it is possible? i need detailed bios settings for this please.
    Second alternative config:
    Raid 0 on sb600 using 4 disk
Raid 1 on promise using 2 disks
I have 6 drives in total and want to use them all.
Right now if I enable additional raid config on BIOS my sb600 controller only detect disks on the 1 and 3 ports, but doesnt see the 2 and 4 ports. Also i cant see the 5 and 6 ports anywhere in the bios or in the ctrl-f raid utility.
    My bios version is 1.3
    Any help?

hi, you could use the promise controller for your raid array using the rear esata connectors (with a esata to sata cable) and in side ports 5-6, use the sb600 not in raid for the other drives, like bas was saying each controller has it own bios, so what that means is if promise raid is on (sb600 off) the drives would show up in the promise raid setup and the other way around (drives in the SB600 RAID set up) and also if both raid controllers are off the drives show up in the main board bios. once i did have both controllers run through their setup at the same time but i got "some memory ran out of room" message after post,..
anyway so you should be able to do what you want, but use the promise for raid and sb600 for not, that way only one raid controller is on.

  • Bios settings for K9A2 v1.0 and PC2-8500 1066MH

My apologies in advance if this issue is like beating a dead horse but I have been looking for stable bios recomendations and proper settings for over a week now not only in this forum but the msi german board as well where I found my beta last year. I built my system a year ago and have never been 100% satisfied with it as it totally screams but intermittenly BSOD and reboots while gaming usually in heavy action :o(
I had a difficult time getting a working bios and configuration in Jan '08 but all I remember was it was in ganged, 128 bit mode, and had spread spectrum and other auto disable pci something setting disable and I have been able to run memory at 1066MHz.
after last crash a week ago I replace my beta 1.3 bios with A7376AMS V1.7B4 011309 out of desperation to correct the random booting issus as well as suspected over heating as I have tried removing the side panel to my coolermaster Cosmos to see if getting more air one components would help and I cant tell but I do know I cannot get the system back to 1066Mhz
currently runing unganged 64-bit and any attempt to change that and Cell settings causes BSOD in Vista 64-Bit, I cannot figure out how to adjust the voltage as the settings are greyed out. If anyone has a working bios could you supply me version info as well as how to set correct voltage and any other setting to stablize. yes, I have memory still in first two slots.

I have used Geil RAM untill 2 months ago,but the board wasnt working properly with it so i changed to Kingston.Maybe you should barrow from a firend other brand modules and see how they work
Or maybe you should use them at 800 Mhz.

  • Houston, we have a problem.. My new K9A2 Platinum will not install an OS

I purchased a K9A2 Platinum (Version 1) and everything went fine with the hookup and install until I went to install the OS.
    Here's the set up:
    1) 9600 Phenom
    2) 4 GB A-Data DDR2 800 RAM (2 2GB Sticks)
    3) Diamond HD3870 Video Card.
    4) 260 GB WD Caviar Sata Drive
    5) LG 18x DVD
note I also Have a 160 GB PATA WD Caviar as well.. more about the in a minute.
I hooked everything up Sata drive as Sata 1 and DVD as Sata 2,
Checked BIOS to be sure everyone was recognized.
Tried to install Vista 64 bit.
    Entered Location, activations etc..
    and Install began
    1) Copied files
    2) Expanded files
    3) Updated system
(no errors occured during these steps)
System rebooted and got the message Windows is booting for the first time etc...
Then to the finalizing Installation line, which... well.. never gets final (I've left it on that screen for 3+ hours).. Sometimes it locks up.
I tried installing Windows XP and I get through all of the installation, but when it reboots to WIndows from the DVD.. It can't find the OS..
I installed the PATA drive and tried installing Vista to it with no difference in the results.  I suspect I am doing something stupid here (I have done this before.. it's my fifth build and never a problem before). A note that on the PATA if I use the Chip Select jumper (Out of the box settings) Everything's recognized but it sets it up as a slave. IF I set it as a lone master  the BIOS recoginizes it, but windows doesn't. If I set it up as a master.. the system doesn't post. I am going to try to install XP on the PATA and see if that works, However I want to run Vista on this beast, so even if it does, well I still need help..
Yes I promise, this is all a cry for help... If anyone has any ideas I'd surely be apreciative..  In fact I'd be so appreciative I'd help you remove an garbage (viruses, spyware etc..) for free (ok I do that for free anyway.. I'm cajuntek everywhere I go on the net.. You can find me in the Security Cleanup forum at dslreports most often..  Thanks again for any help you guys can provide on this.

I don't trust [Auto] Vmem in the BIOS.
First, Cajuntek, I would try beta BIOS 1.33.
You can download it from http://www.magnaroute.com/deliver/
This BIOS has been very stable for me, MSI Tech Support gave it to me to attempt to solve memory stability I have had with 4x dual rank memory modules.  It doesn't fix that problem but it does make the system more stable and compatible over the publicly released BIOSes as far as I can tell.
I would also suggest you put in a fixed voltage value in the BIOS for your memory.  I use 2.3V because I am overclocking.  You can probably use 2.0V or 2.1V.  It is possible that the [Auto] setting may be giving your system too little voltage on the memory and that may be causing your lockup.

  • Question about Raid set up with (SB600) K9A2 Platinum V 1.0

I am having trouble setting up my raid.  I am using Windows XP Pro and go through the usual set up procedures using F6 command then installing the drivers etc.  Once I get everything up and running installed on Raid 0 the computer works very well for a few days.  Then later BSOD.  The first was a 0000007b stop error, then I got the system back up again only to have it a few days then another BSOD 00000024 stop error.  This time I was not able to bring it back.  I thought my problem was linked to a RAM issue as I was using OCZ PC2 6400 DDR2 OCZ2G8008GQ (2X2GB).  The reason I thought this was when I went to the motherboard site for approved ram, this ram was not there, then on OCZ site it was also not tested, then I went to newegg and used thier motherboard ram compatability screener and it did not show up either.  So I bought the Giel ram and am now trying to set it back up again though I could not get it back still.  So I finally just reformatted the drives (using another computer and a hard drive enclosure)and am getting ready to reinstall everything.  I want to make sure I am using the right SB600 drivers for my application.  I should be selecting AHCI X86 or x64.  This does pertain to the operating system (I am using Win XP 32 Bit) or the processor (I am using the Kuma Athlon X2 7750 2.7Ghz)
I believe I should be selecting the x86 drivers when installing windows.  Am I right?  I just want to make sure I do not screw anything up so as to bring on the horrible BSODs again.  I realize this could be some driver issue as well that could have caused this.  I did everything I could to make sure it was not the hard drives.
The last question I have is:  In order to ensure proper operation of the dual channel ram, (I have read the book, still confused a bit), I must install the ram with one stick in the first slot nearest the CPU and the other in the first slot of the opposite color?  In this case Green/Orange slots.

I was just trying to obtain the fastest load times/install times.  When the machine was first running it was very quick with no cpu temps running beyond 34C, no abnormal performance.  This is my wifes computer though.  Things began to go astray after she updated through windows update to SP3.  I am now using a slipstreamed CD with SP3 already on it.  She said she was clicking on the internet explorer "E" icon and it just shut off.  THen when it rebooted (it was still set that way in windows recovery) it started loading windows then BSOD 0000007b error.  I fixed it by finally getting into windows recovery and running fixboot, then fixmbr, then chkdsk /r /f.  It started working fine again.  Then later maybe two days later it happend again this time wihtout the restarting.  She was working on something else this time and it shutdown again.  This time when it tried ot reload windows I was getting the ntfs.sys issue with a 00000024 stop error.  I could not do the same magic with windows recovery any longer.  When I tried it indicated it repaired the boot, the mbr, but when I tried to run the chkdsk, it gave me disk read errors, such as "this disk has unrecoverable errors".  I used Western Digital test programs on the drives by removing them and installing them into an enclosure and taking them to a good computer.  One drive I could see in windows and it reflected 140G/B, the other would pick up but not in my computer.  It also showed the drive as having the entire quantity as the RAID together had of 298G/B versus the real size of the drive 150G/B.  I just figured that was the drive that was set up as LD 1 in the RAID setup (prior to windows) and possible was the drive with he boot sector on it???  I could get another drive and include it into the array, but then just figure I will have to worry about 3 drives versus 2.  She keeps improtant backup stuff on an external drive.  I will tone down the ram to 800.  Should I set the latency in Bios though to the 5-5-5-15?  or just leave everything at auto like I hade done before?  Though this ram is new and was not in the computer when this happened.  I had replaced the other OCZ Gold stuff and put in the G Skill stuff I have now.  I had previously stated Giel, but it is G Skill, sorry about that.  I may just do what you say, guess sleep on it and decide whether to just install the drives with OS/Programs on one and data on the other.

  • MSI K9A2 Platinum + Phenom 9600 + 2GB Mushkin XP8500 cannot boot into windows

    Hi!
I am building my computer using the Spider platform and I ran across problems during booting into windows.
I am using MSI K9A2 platinum with Phenom 9600 and Mushkin 2Gb kit XP8500 ddr2 1066. I have no problem installing windows xp.
The problem starts when I install the utility and drivers that come on a cd from MSI, my computer requests to re-boot after installation and after
that it will not boot into windows. I can get to the windows logo and then the system reboots right away.
I checked the bios and it shows that the ram is running at 800mhz and i have tried running with just 1 stick and im getting the same problem every time.
Anyone knows how to resolve this?
    thanks!

Everything is stable now...I guess installing the driver from the MSI website is the best thing to do right now
I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz...I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode...I tried adjusting the spd to 5-5-4-12 with voltage of 2.2v as suggested by the mushkin ram itself
    Any idea?
"I have update the motherboard BIOS to v1.2 and i checked that the ram is running on unganged mode..."
    That is the correct mode.
"I notice that my ram is underclocked to 800mhz instead of 1066mhz..."
1066 is not officially certified by JEDEC, also your memory probably don't have SPD configuration for that freq.
Contact to Mushkin for more details.
"I guess installing the driver from the MSI website is the best thing to do right now"
    Yep
    "Everything is stable now.."
    nice

  • K9A2 Platinum PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, im on BOARD #2, and #3 is on it's way....
ok, I purchased the first board on NewEGG thogether with a Phenom 9950BE, 4GB OCZ 2x2 DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 @2.1v and Saphire ATI HD4850. well the first try was bad, the board would not recognize my 4 WD RAPTORS, the promise controller would not detect them, and the SB600 could only read 2 out of 4 and only if 2 where connnected and not the 4....
well, I send that board back, in the mean time I visited Fry's Electronics and purchased the board again, now this time is working so, so...   I managed to install VISTA64 SP1 with all the patches, etc, and play few games, except i still have problems:  I disabled the promise controller as i need to run 2 ARRAY's of RAID 0 (2 Raptors 740 each, one array for OS and one for GAMES) the problem is that I get random lockups, Blue Screens, etc. also when I choose to restart the computer or send it to SLEEP, as it is shutting down the HD make a weird sound that they never made before and if I restarted the SB600 raid bios would not detect the arrays, i physically have to power down, wait and restart, so the arrays are detected.
also I try to overclock the PC, the Phenom is able to run at 3ghz but it freezes some times immediately but others it would last few hours with gaming in between, i tried several voltages from 1.33v to 1.41v and some times get a BlueScreen that reads a processors error, one core did't respond on expected time... or something like that.
    [bashing removed]
    my spec's are:
AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition B3
    MSI K9A2 platinum 1.5 bios
    Saphire HD4850
    4GB OCZ DDR2 1066 5-5-5-15 @2.1v Dual CH.(2x2GB)
4x WD RAPTORS WD740 on RAID 0 (two ARRAYS)
    PIONEER DVD-RW DL IDE
    CoolerMaster STACKER case w/2 120mm fans and 1 80mm
Dual PS: CoolerMaster Real 450w PS & Ultra 400w PS

well, the design of the CoolerMaster STACKER case is for two Power supply's working in tandem, it has a connector that turns on both supply's at the same time, so I split the load as follows:   all Motherboard plugs, 3 120mm fans, 1 80mm fan & Pioneer DVD drive; powered by thr CoolerMaster REAL 450w, it list power as follows: PEAK (60S) +3.3v@30A, +5v@35A, +12v1@18A, +12v2@16A, -12v@blank?, [email protected]
    CONTINUOS: +3.3v@20A, +5v@25A, +12v1@12A, +12v2@10A, [email protected], [email protected]
as for the other power supply it powers the following: HD's (as of now 2; 1 WD Raptor and 1 Seagate 7200.9), 1 120mm fan and the ATI HD4850
I don't think Im starving the system of power...
im installing windows vista 64 (yeah, yeah, XP is more stable, but I had an ABIT A8N nforce4SLI, Athlon X2 3800 OC's, 2GB Patriot DDR, 2x Geforce 7800GT OC's on SLI and 4 HD's, and I never had any problems, and I had the CPU running on stock cooler and stock voltage. and I had VISTA 32, and 64 and never since I bought it ever give me problems, i could OC everything from CPU, memory, HT, PCI-e, etc.
why this board is so bad?
this is the current ERROR i have just now:
"A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval..."
    technical info. ***STOP: 0X00000101  (0X0000000000000031, 0X0000000000000000, 0XFFFFF980012C6180, 0X0000000000000001)
I did enable promise controller and used the 2 HD on the ports controlled by it as JOBD each, the RAM is @ 1066mhz, voltage as recomended 2.1v and I did try to OC the processor just to try, since that is the purpose of buying the Black edition 9950 to 15x200 @ 3000mhz 1.41v, everything else is on Auto.
before I get SCHOOLED by other users, yes I do want to OC the proc. I have installed vista 64 w/o OC the proc and it runs ok, but i still had random BSOD here and there...  but since this is proclaimed the best board for OC the Phenom and AMD even pushes the SPIDER plataform and makes it easy to OC.  I also just installed an after market heatsink (CoolerMaster Gemin II w/2 120mm 1200rpm) and the bios reports the CPU @ 29* C

  • K9A2 Platinum Bus Interface problem

    Currently running:
Motherboard: MSI K9A2 Platinum 1.6 Bios
    CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 BE (O.C. to 3.0 [200 x 15])
RAM: 8 GB G. Skill 1066 RAM (Underclocked to PC 6400 4-4-4-12 for stability)
GPU: 2x Radeon HD 3870 Sapphire Edition
    HDD: 2x Seagate 640 HDD's RAID 0 thru SB600
    OS: XP Pro x64
My problem is my 2 GPU's have a max bus width of 16x 2.0. When using GPUz, only the first card is rated at 16x 2.0, while the second is 16x. Both cards are in the dark blue "mazerine" slots, and the BIOS option for High Speed mode in slots x1 and x4 are turned on "auto." Any ideas?

Quote from: Stu on 03-January-09, 02:49:08
Are you actually having any problems using the cards?
Normally I can run Farcry2 on Ultimate at 30-40 FPS no problem, however, with the bus width labeled as such i'm running around 4-5 FPS, so the 2nd card is creating a slowdown. I know the card is fine, because when it runs by itself not in x-fire at PCI-E x16 2.0.

  • K9A2 Platinum not loading raid drivers sb600 or promise for raid 0

I am tired of trying by myself, hopefully you guys can help me out Ive been fighting this thing for 2days now and i hate this computer I'm on that feels like 28k dial up.
i know theres the promise plugs and the sb600, and i know they have different drivers. i also know that you have to disable the sb600 raid to get the promise working and vise versa *read the manual for that*. i set up the raid in raid configure *<alt-f>* and set it to raid 0 and assign the raid, and its fully functional.
the problem is when it comes to boot windows i hit f6 and then use the drivers i got off the cd...or website *two floppy's* and pick the i86 raid configuration *windows xp not 64, 64bit one is corrupted on both disks as well* it gets through that part, i format the drive *it sees in in raid in fast configure and in windows format, not in bios* and then go to install. it begins to install and stops on the first file FTT.inf, it apparently cannot read it, which is the same file on the disk if i am not mistaken. i have tried to install about 100times,if not more with different configurations in the bios.
the settings i have now for raid set up in the bios are:
    integrated peripherals
    extra raid controller enabled
in I/O devices on chip sata controller disabled *tried both enabled and disabled same problem*
it does not show drives in the sata ports but i figured that since it only shows 1-4 and the internal promise are the 5/6 ports.
i have formated and re-installed the drivers on the disks multiple times ive also tried the sb600 drivers disabling the extra raid controller in bios setting raid *it finds it in the 1/2 slots then 1 as raid* configured it in the raid set up as well but the same problem arises except its not FTT.inf its ahcix86.inf that errors. skipping the files *which is obvious  but i tried it just to see what would happen * causes blue screen on reboot and another error of the same type at 99% but .sys file this time.
i have installed windows on one drive and booted up using the same drivers was able to configure everything was slightly inclined to just say screw it 1 drive it is. but it was a shame since i bought them both to raid 0 em from the start. loaded windows up and even installed drivers.
i also heard that u need to do full format sometimes to get the raid to work if you have tried both raid drivers so i did slow fat format... no avail did it twice. and fast the rest. if you guys know of any boot-able type formating program that i could throw on a floppy disk that would be great too, if thats the case.
i am at a wall and frustrated as all hell with what Ive done so far hope u guys can help me out, tried to be as detailed as possible but i bet i missed something .
rig specs*dont know if this will help but w/e*
    msi K9A2 platinum
amd 4200 duel core socket am2
    1gig of patriot 667 ram 512x2
    ati x1900gt video card
Samsung spin point 160gb sata drive x2 *praying to god to put it in raid 0 once again*

did all those settings. and have the newest and the disk version of the drivers.
do u guys really think that it not being able to find the driver file a power issue? either way i ll do anything at this point i rewired some stuff where the video card has its own rail and the hard drives have theirs with the cd-rom drive. took out my fan controler and really power hungry after market video card fan replaced with an old 60mm fan.
Error once again... ??? DAMN FTT3.inf file
edited: cause i sounded like an angry a$$hole with that first line :P
Stop swearing here! It's NOT allowed.
As for the floppy, goto the command prompt of a Windows machine, then type "format a:" and let the floppy format, if your floppy shows any error throw it away and try another.
    It's not uncommon floppies fail.
