1080 appple codec /  compresssion ?

Is the codec that Apple uses when you capture 1080i from a HD camera (sony HDR-HC1)the same in FCE-HD and FCP-HD?
The footage I capture is slightly (just slightly) not as smooth as the orginal when I watch it through the camera on a big screen.
I guess my real question is there a way to improve this "capture quality"?
I'm using 300GB external firewire drive to capture to.
William

FCP does HDV natively. FCE uses the Apple Intermediate Codec, but it's still an HD format. That's determined by frame resolution, not the codec. You can really bad HD, and you can have good HD. HDV is the bottom of the HD food chain. There's DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, and HDCAM, all of which use the same frame resolutions but at higher and higher data rates.

    dear colleges,
i bought a panasonic HVX200. i thought that FCP6.2 would have the dvcprohd 1080 25p codec, but it is not there (at least i cannot find it). i intend to blow up my footage to 35mm and therefore i need the 25p codec. How to go ahead with this?

HI Gerard, yep its there.I have recently bought a HVX-200 and imported my first 1080/25P. It's not on the EASY SETUP.
Simply adjust the setting's (cmd+0) of your new SEQUENCE to your 25P, 1080 and your away before dropping the 1080/25P into the sequence.
    should be fine.

  • How to convert 14GB to 2GB for IMDB upload using FinalCut Pro 7?

    Hi,
I am submitting a 12 minute film to festivals and need to convert it from 14GB to around 2GB for best quality results in order to upload it to IMDB so that it could be streamed. I use FinalCut Pro 7 but the compression/export settings for the file are proving to be tricky.
Once I click on Export>Quicktime video
What settings do I choose to have the file be closest to 2GB and have the audio and video synced perfectly, maintaining the good quality of footage shot on Red?
    14GB footage specs:
    Dimensions: 1920 X 1080.
Codecs: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Linear PCM, Timecode
    Color profile: HD (1-1-1)
    Duration: 11:59
    Audio Channels: 2
When I converted it to DVD: I got a DVD .m2v file around 465MB, it that the highest quality I can get for a DVD version?
Also, When I set the settings to 1280 x 720 it resulted in a file size of 275.4MB, when I wanted it to be around 2GB
Please help me asap. I need to get this done today. Thanks alot in advance!

Export a full quality file....FILE>EXPORT>Quicktime Movie. Self contained, sequence settings.
Take that file into COMPRESSOR.  Look for the Quicktime 7 Streaming options...choose the H.264 LAN preset.  SUBMIT.

  • How to make the opening video replay every time in ibooks author?

I have opening media in my  ibook. But I need it to replay every time the ibooks is opened again. How do I do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you saying export my processed video to .movs or DNxHD and give to him?  The terms are all new to me.  When I last edited with FCP it was with DVCam footage captured from the cassettes.  Would he be able to then import the audio from the SxS card and sync it on his time line with those kind of files?
Nothing was deleted....straight 1 hr 2 minute single take.... broken down to the smaller files both by the Nanoflash and the SxS card..  I would drop the soundtrack from SxS onto my time line and sync it up for him first with the noise processed Nano video files if I could figure out why it isn't following the video onto the time line?  Why does the 1080 60P codec from the Sony NEX 5N still camera bring the audio along automatically and the file fromn the Sony PMW 320 does not?  There must be a lot of EX1 and EX3 shooters here.  Please, what do I need to do with the buttons or targeting or settings for the 2 audio tracks on time line for those files to have the audio come along?  From the SxS files I imported, both the ones that say "CLPR" and right below that, "CUEUP.XML"  play the sound in the browser source window.

  • Why does dragging an imported video into a project reduce the file size by half?

I used a Canon Vixia HV40 to import 1 hour of HD video filmed using 24F and cina mode.  My import and project properties were as follows:widescreen (16x9, 24F, cinema, import size = full, original size.
The specifications for the imported file are as follows/:
    Size: 22.12GB
    Dimensons: 1920 x 1080
Codec: Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM
    Color Profile: HD(1-1-1)
    Audio Channels: 2
    Total Bit Rate: 47,113
When I drag the imported file into a new project, the resulting .mov file has the following specifications:
Size: 9.67GB (approx half the size)
    Dimensions 1920 x 1080 (same)
    Codec: H.264, AAC (different)
    Color Profile: HS(1-1-1) (same)
    Audio Channels: 2 (same)
Total Bit Rate: 20,607 (approx half)
What causes the file size reduction and bit rate reduction?  Is it a result of the different codec?  Is there any corresponding loss of video quality that results from the conversion?
Thanks for your answers in advance.

Thanks a lot for your quick and detailed response!
Maximum image quality and file size are not the same thing, for a start.
Yes, but with JPG's they tend to be correlated, aren't they?
When you view a photo in iPhoto it's a composite of the original and the decisions recorded, and applied live as you view.
Oh, I always thought iPhoto makes a copy of the orginial and modfies that ...
If you want to use that photo for something then you have to export it. This make a new file with your photo in it. When you export you have a lot of options - including ones that will make the filesize bigger than the original.  This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Ah, that is cool. That solves my problem.
If you use drag and drop from the iPhoto Window that's a form of exporting too -but you have no options there. You get the iPhoto Preview. That's a 'handy-good-enough-for-most-things version of the shot. If you want  more options use the export command.
That's what I tripped over. (I used the email feature from within iPhoto for a quick sharing ...)
    Thanks, G.

  • Poor Quality DVD footage

    Hi There
I wandered if anyone can help, please!
From FCP, I've exported a QuickTime movie using compressor and the XD CAM 1080 25p codec (as this is the source footage). Open the mov in QT and it plays perfectly.
I create and burn my disk using DVDSP (4.2.1) and the footage looks terrible. It's quite smeary and in parts, seems to drag. It looks like and interlacing problem but I've shot and exported progressively.
Is there something I'm doing wrong between exporting from FCP and burning from DVDSP?
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    I think you mean SPECIFIC

Presumably, you've checked this on a Professional monitor - or at least a TV? A computer screen won't give you a true picture.

  • Importing AVCHD video in .mp4 container from Samsung camcorder

    Hello anyone and everyone,
I recently purchased a new Samsung camcorder (Model: HMX-H100N) and wish to use Premier Pro CS4 to edit the resulting video. The camcorder records video to an SDHC card in 1080i avc1 in an .mp4 container (the exact specifications as shown in GSpot and MediaInfo below) which when I attempt to import into premiere a green square is displayed. I have tried several AVCHD 1080i as well as HDV 1080i presets none of which have resulted in anything other than the green square or "Format Not Supported" error messages. I'm running Windows 7 (x86) OS and have several codecs (filters) installed including ffdshow, CoreAVC, DivX 7 as well as the built in Microsoft DTV-DVD filter and the MainConcept (adobe2) H264/AVC decoder. During normal playback of the .mp4 file Windows Meida Player seems to use the built in Microsoft DTV filter and playback is flawless, I would assume that Premier is attempting to use the MainConcept filter which seems to be unable to decode the files. Any help is appreciated.

I have bought a Samsung HMX-H100NM for my son, and we have had the hardest time importing the video cilps in Adobe Premiere Pro.
Here is what I found so far:
    - If you check the video size on the "green square clips", it's completely bogus. It might be set to  4x13 instead of 1920x1080 for example.
    - There was a firmware update for the HMX-100N on the Samsung web site in late December 2009.  As of January 17, 2010, it is not there aymore.  I was told at the end of December 2009 that there would be a new firmware upgrade in January 2010, so maybe a new version is coming soon.
    - After upgrading the firmware (I'm not sure exactly what happened with the old firmware installed, except that importing didn't work at all), I find that I'm able to import some clips if I set the camera resolution to "fine" or "superfine".  The other resolution still gives me clips that I cannot import. When a clip import is successful, I can play the vide. However, if I save the project and reopen it, I will get "green squares" in lieu of some of the good clips. Rebooting the computer and reopening the same project might give me a different set of bad clips. I have reported this as a bug.
    - Just for the heck of it, we tried importing the same video clips in Adobe Premiere Elements and that worked just fine.
    In summary:
    1. Try setting your video resolution to "fine" or "super fine" in camera.
    2. Try using Adobe Premiere Elements.
    3. Pray that we get a fix in Premiere Pro soon.
    4. I'm looking for recommendation for a different video camera that will work "out of the box"

  • How to make HP Mediasmart Video reads .MKV files?

Hi there. I've recently bought a HP DV7T-2000 notebook and I've got really excited about this product. It's really awsome! The only "problem" till now is that I can't play .mkv files using HP Mediasmart Video, even after installing the matroska codec. I can play .mkv files using any other video player, but HP Mediasmart Video.
Does anyone know how to make this work?
For the records, I'm running it over Windows 7 Professional 64 bits.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Premiere crashes when exporting to Soundbooth

I've searched everywhere for an answer but can't find anything.  When I try to export an audio file from Premiere to Soundbooth, Premiere hangs.
The only change to my system recently was I downloaded some Matrox codecs.  Anyone have any ideas or solutions?  I'm using Win 7.  Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate the quick response.  I don't have a Matrox card but I was working on a project that the client used a 1920 x 1080 Matrox codec.  It was version 10.  My Premiere is version 5.03.  The audio file is just an HDV file that I was trying to correct audio on.  I thought it might have something to do with Dynamic link but I was able to import AE comps.

  • DVCPRO HD 1080i/25p

I have just done a shoot with a Panasonic HVX200 on P2 using the 1080i/25 setting. I am also using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 (can't upgrade as that is the version installed on the college computers). I can ingest the footage using the DVCPROHD 1080/50i codec but the footage comes in full picture without the black enveloped bars top and bottom. What does happen in that the picture has black bars on the left and right side of the frame. Is there a way to ingest (Import) the footage and get an anamorphic (16.9) frame with black bars top and bottom (I did it once but can't remember how)?
    Any help appreciated

That was the first version of FCP to support P2 imported footage, and it had issues. If you really need to work with this footage, you really need to upgrade. Or you really need to get THEM to upgrade.
There is no way to control the import...it comes in as is. But making FCP do the proper sequence settings is the issue, and PAL support for P2 was VERY lacking in version 5.0.4.

  • Can I do this in compressor?

I got these specs and I'm not even sure if it's possible to do them. I am using Compressor 3.5.3. The original video is a 30 second commercial, Apple Pro Res 1920x1080, 29.97. Is it possible to make a H264 QT under 100MB with a bitrate of at least 50Mbps? I'm not having any luck. Also, for the audio, they are requesting MP3 or AAC and PCM audio. Aren't they 3 separate things? MP3 and AAC compressed and PCM is uncompressed? Please help!
    Format: MOV or MP4 (HD)
Video Length: :15 or :30 seconds
    Size: < 100MB
Codec: H.264 - bitrate must be at least 50 Mbps
Bitrate: Must be at least 50 Mbps
Frames/sec: 24-25 or 29-30 (constant frame rate only)
Aspects Ratio: Native aspects without letteringbox (4:3, 16:9)
    Resolution: 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080
    Audio Codec: MP3 or AAC
    2 channels only
    PCM Audio
    16 or 24 bit only
    48 kHz sample rate
    Audio is required
Please remove all slates, countdowns, and leaders

Well, we can't repeal the law of physics for whoever wrote these specs. Either they must cut you some slack on the bit rate or they must bend on the file size. (Which is why I thought the 15-30 second video length range was included in the specs – to give you a working range.)
In other words, (bit rate) * (program length) = file size. It doesn't matter whether it's Compressor,Episode, Adobe Media Encoder, or Squeeze…same constraints apply.
You will need to have a conversation with whoever provided the specs.
    Best of luck.

  • CODEC NOT FOUND

Hello, all of a sudden I'm having all kinds of probs with FCE HD v 3.5.1  When I launch it pop up box says CODEC NOT FOUND!   U might be using compression type w/o corresponding hardware card.  I then hit OK and it loads but interface no longer shows CANVAS & TIMELINE windows.  They are not active and toolbar shows both are GRAYED OUT.   What gives?   I have Powerbook G4 MacOS X 10.4.11

The clips from the iPhone have been transcoded to 1920 x 1080i.
The Sequence setting is 1440 x 1080  for NTSC use.
This is a mis-match meaning FCE has to render to fit it correctly.
If you do not see the 1920 x 1080 sizes in the FCE>Easy Setups you will need to update to 4.0.1.
Video standards are rules that apply to video of differing countries.
    50i is for PAL regions.
    60i is for NTSC regions.
Note: FCE at this size can only work with clips that are interlaced or i.
p means progressive and will not work.

  • Help me choose a 'Single Codec' for conversion?

I am preparing my footage to edit a documentary which I shot using three cameras:
    DVCPRO HD (1080/25p) Panasonic 171
    H264 (1080/25p) Canon 5D Mk II
    AVCHD (1080/50p) Panasonic TM700
My confusion is concerned with the DVCPRO HD stuff being 1440x1080 whereas the 5D and TM700 are 1920x1080
I want to convert all the formats to a single codec.
My question: - Should I convert everything to ProRes, or convert the 5D and TM700 footage to DVCPRO HD? I'm trying to understand if there are any 'disadvantages' to converting DVCPROHD to ProResas both are iFrame.... but am concerned about scaling.
    Many thanks

Thanks Jim, i'm moving towards that viewpoint myself.
As a supplementary question, i'm curious if transcoding from DVCPRO HD to ProRes 422 will affect the image quality in some way .... I've tried this and they look the same to my eye, though going from one compressed file type to another suggests a loss in fidelity?
    Thanks, Johnny

  • Best  video settings FCPX 10.0.6 (codecs)

Well, I've looked through many of the comments, many were years old and didn't apply either because of what versions of FCP they were using as well as for what iPhone, iPad, etc.
I'd just like an answer for the best settings when making a video to post on YouTube (etc.) or save as a movie.  I had trouble when using the highest 1080i HD.
Lots of crashes, and couldn't even restart FCPX.    The settings were on my last piece: 1440 X 1080 29.97 fps, Codec H.264.  It came out pretty good but looked a little large on YouTube.  Can I use a smaller but still a good quality that might slow down crashes and speed up rendering and look decent etc?
May I also ask, if during rendering the percent progress is moving, should I wait until it's to 100% before doing other edits?   Before I'd just do things while I saw the rendering in progress.
I'm also using OSX 10.6.8 with an odd 9 Gb of RAM.   I just ordered 16 Gb more yesterday.  I'll get rid of those two 512 Mb strip of RAM.
Not looking to make a Hollywood movie but would like the videos to be decent and clear.
A few months ago I was working with two or three video tracks.  auto from the videos, my own Logic music sound track, a voice dub, still pics with movement: size, X Y color changes blends etc.  and the vids were fine.  A few minutes long.  Then something happened crashing crashes.  So, I moved all the projects out and re-started FCPX.
Plus my new small Sony WX-170 has a 18 Mb mega-pixel and HD 1080i video.   Older pics were 12 Mega-pixel.
Any points of suggestion would be appreciated.  thanx

Just re posting to YouTube, this is a great (in-depth) article on getting the best out of YouTube- http://www.streamingmedia.com/Articles/Editorial/Featured-Articles/Encoding-for- YouTube-How-to-Get-the-Best-Results-83876.aspx
Not sure what you mean by "looked a little large". Given we're talking precise dimensions here...
I mostly use Compressor to render, so I don't know anything about fixing the other problem you've mentioned. FCPX hasn't crashed, for me, in months.
