1080i at 30hz instead of 60hz?

I have a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter for my MacBook. I am trying to connect it to a video projector. Problem is, this video projector is 1080i not p... it only accepts up to 30hz. In the display options, the only refresh rate available is 60hz. Is there any way to set it up at the lower refresh rate?
I previously had an all VGA/Component setup, but have moved up to blueray and need to change to HDMI. VGA is generally 30hz so it worked.

Couple of quick suggestions/thoughts
HDV Tape based cameras can capture in DV or HDV.  You might check to see if your source footage captured in DV when you shot it.  You usually can see it right in the EVF.
Import your clip into Premiere Pro CS5 and drag it to the new item icon at the bottom of the panel.  If it is 720x480, your source footage is that.  If it's 1440x1080 or 1920x1080 it's HDV.
If you want higher quality, then blu-ray is better.  However, if your source footage is DV, then there's no (really good) way to make it HD short of shooting it again.  Notice I said really good way.  There are ways to resample your footage to make it HD.
Hope this helps,
Dennis

  • 4k@60hz big interference problem

    Hello.
    I have a 2014 MP with the D700 upgrade.
    I am using it to drive a 28" philips 4k monitor http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K15LQZM
In single channel mode (30hz) it works beautifully. However, when i enable displayport 1.2 on the monitor, there is interference on the right side of the screen. it is a regular pattern of noise (always the same degradation), and does not seem affected by moving the cable around.
I bought the nicest miniDP->DP cable i could find which claims to be rated for 1.2, however after seeing the noise I decided to try another cable.
This time I tried a 1.2-rated miniDP cable and a 1.2-rated miniDP->DP dongle. With this cable, the interference is ridiculous. the screen will flicker off and on, and the noise which was previously on the right side of the screen is now on both sides of the screen.
Going back to the first cable restores the partially-degraded state, which is what i have to use when 30hz gives me a headache.
Based on another post here, I have a hunch that this is some kind of EM leakage--though disabling wifi did not have any effect whatsoever.
so my question is, are there any other radios which could be interfering?
I have moved to a different house, and to another floor and side of my current house while troubleshooting this, and the noise is identical--seemingly ruling out ambient EM noise. I can't find any more 1.2-rated miniDP->DP adapters to try. I'm open to just about any ideas. I thought about bringing it to the mac store where i bought it, but they don't have any 4k/60hz monitors there for me to try.
So far the $6k I've spent on this rig is under-performing the PC i bought for $400 5 years ago... hopefully someone can guide me to a solution or i'm basically done with apple lol

I found this post buried in another thread. looks like this is a very common problem with the D700's. It seems like this is not a defect with my unit but a known bug with OSX display drivers.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6080897?start=75&tstart=0
basically the only way to "fix" this is by hacking a custom display header file which tricks OSX into thinking the monitor's native refresh rate is 50-56hz instead of 60hz. I'll update after i've tried this.
too bad apple doesn't seem to care about quality issues... this bug has been open for a year and no one in support seems to have any clue how to mitigate, let alone fix it. Good thing for hackers.

  • Unable to get more than 1080p on an external display

    Hi,
I have an X1 Carbon (not sure what model version - if that's important, someone please tell me how to get it and I'll post).
Its display is 2560x1440 and has both HDMI and miniDP to drive an external monitor.
I have a Dell U2713M as an external monitor, however I cannot get it to display anything over 1920x1080.
I've tried HDMI->HDMI (which I know wouldn't work since Dell decided not to support high resolution over HDMI), HDMI->DVI-D, and DP->HDMI.
All the above will only go to 1920x1080.
I'm running windows 7, and the system information app tells me that the display driver is:
    Intel(R) HD Graphics 5000
    Card Version: 10.18.10.3958 09-30-2014
    Any assistance would be appreciated,
    thanks,
    William

    Hi,
Try to change the HDMI cable. I did display (X1 Carbon 20A7) 4K (3840 x 2160) on TCL (U49S7606DS) using very old but original Panasonic Viera HDMI 1.3a cable. I know it is strange and should not work but it works.
BTW: Here is what Lenovo officially says for the second generation of X1:
Graphics    Intel HD Graphics 4400 or 5000 in processor,
    external digital monitor support via Mini DisplayPort or HDMI (supports VGA analog monitor via Mini DisplayPort to VGA Monitor Cable); supports three independent displays;
    Max external resolution:
     3840x2160 (Mini DisplayPort)@30Hz;
     2880x1620 (HDMI)@60Hz

  • Late Macbook Pro 13 with Asus PB287Q (4K Monitor)

    Hi,
I just bought the 4K Asus Monitor PB287Q and I can't get it to work via Display-Port at all!!!
Is there anything I'm missing? I've bought a cheap mini-DisplayPort to Display Port cable and hook that up to the
Thunderbolt ports (I've already tried both ports, as well as switching the monitor to DisplayPort 1,2 mode) *nothing*
The monitor works fine and gets detected immediately through HDMI.
I only want to use it with a resolution of 1920x1080 @ 60HZ but can only get 30HZ through HDMI?
The Macbook Pro just doesn't find the monitor through DisplayPort?
    Any suggestions?
    My OS-X is 10.9.5
    thanks a lot!
ps. it could also be a faulty cable I guess?

Assuming the monitor is set to display port input, be sure your cable supports Displayport Stream v1.2.  This is needed to run 4K @ 60Hz.  However, most cheap cables only support v1.1 which will limit you at 30Hz.
Also be sure to connect the cable to the laptops display port not through an attached Thunderbolt display.
I have the same monitor and it took a while to research the correct configuration to get it to work.  I can get the monitor to recognize the laptop up to resolution of 4K @ 30Hz but not 60Hz.  It should work with these settings so trying my fourth cable to see if I can get the 4K @ 60Hz configuration.
    I hope this helps.

  • Macbook Pro Retina HDMI Does Not Support 2560 x 1080

I have both the early and late 2013 rMBP 15 inch but it seems like the early 2013 does not support my Dell U2913WM at maximum resolution of 2560 x 1080 for some reason on HDMI. Are the HDMI ports any different between the two? I'm tried using SwitchResX, but at 2560 x 1080, I can only go up to 53 Hz before it says invalid configuation on the early 2013 rMBP. On the late 2013 rMBP, it can output 2560 x 1080 at 60 Hz fine. It would seem like both graphics cards are more than capable of pushing this resolution, and if I connect through Displayport, they're both fine too. I was hoping to use HDMI though to free up a Thunderbolt port. Why are the HDMI ports not outputting at the same capabilities?

Absolutely, I understand that but I'm wondering if or why Apple has limited the HDMI port on the early 2013 rMBP. HDMI 1.4 should be more than capable at outputting up to 4k resolution, so it would seem like Apple is intentially limiting the early 2013 rMBP to HDMI 1.2? At least one post from as early as 2012 seems to suggest that installing Windows on a rMBP allows higher outputs. I thought Mavericks included support for HDMI 1.4 (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?101431-10-9-Mavericks-4K-working-tes ting-it-now) but did they not extend it down to the early 2013 rMBP? Seems like it would be able to support it, no?
Perhaps the better question is whether anyone has been able to output anything at over 1080P on anything other than the latest rMBP after upgrading to Mavericks?
    From the earlier discussion:
"The port definitely supports it, but OS X is another story. If I boot into Windows and connect it to a display capable of displaying 2560x1440 over HDMI, it just works. If I'm in OSX, it refuses to allow anything over 1920x1200. Even if I try to force the resolution with SwitchResX, it doesn't work. If I create a custom resolution with a 40Hz refresh rate instead of 60Hz, then it does actually work. 2560x1440 @ 40Hz fits within the bandwidth constraints of a single link at 165MHz. So it appears that OSX limits the port to 1.2 frequencies. I'm not realy sure why -- HDMI 1.4 should allow for frequencies upto 340MHz, and the hardware is clearly capable based on Windows."
Now that Mavericks supports higher than 1080P over HDMI at least on the latest rMBP, did they just not extend that support to earlier rMBP's even though the hardware is capable of it?

  • Problem with ATV refresh rates and frame rates

I live in Australia and as such I am subject to PAL, so when I set my ATV up I set it to 720P 50Hz, when I purchased a TV season the episodes were running at 25fps and played back flawlessly with no dropped or added frames. My problem occurs when I download movies, all the movies I have bought are running at 24fps and suffer from quite noticeable jitter, almost like the 24th frame is duplicated and added as the 25th frame, I assume it is something like this as the pause happens every second.
So has anyone had a problem similar to this and if so what do you do about it?
Does the ATV playback all sources (24/25) smoothly even if it has to convert?
Could it be caused by my TV?
Any help to any of these questions would be great.
    Thanks.
    Tim.

With my particular Apple TV setup and TV combination, I find that setting to 1080p (60hZ) gives my the best all-round round results.
This does result in -slightly- jerky motion with 25fps material (especially old British TV shows), but it's bearable. It's particularly noticeable with sideways scrolling text and credits.
The one thing that is peculiar on my setup is if I use 720p (either @60hz or 50hz) and watch an iTunes-purchased HD episode that is encoded at 24fps I get very odd motion effects indeed. Every few seconds the video appears to speed up almost like it is 'catching up' with lost frames - very hard to explain exactly how it looks. Anyway I set to 1080p and this effect is gone completely. It also goes away if I set to 1080i. I think something queer is going on with 720p on the Apple TV (at least with my TV there is). This happens with both HDMI and component outputs.
It may be worth trying 1080i at either 50 or 60Hz if your set can't do 1080p.
I would also suggest that 60hz in theory should give a smoother motion for 24fps playback than 50Hz.
My basic problem with all this is that on even a cheap DVD player if a disk is 50Hz, the player switches to 50Hz output and if it is 60Hz, it will change to 60Hz. The Apple TV stays fixed. It's a shame it can't autoswitch refresh rates.

  • Will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port?

I've not been able to find any information about this on the web and there is definitely some confusion about DisplayPort versions - could some one answer the question will an X220 drive a Dell UP2414Q 4K IPS Monitor at it's native resolution of 3840 x 2160 Monitor via Display Port? Would that be at 30Hz rather than 60Hz?
    Many thanks, Mark.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The X220 will drive the Dell UP2414Q 4K resolution through Displayport. I have tested this on the Pro2840m LCD which has the same resolution. But only on 30 hz refresh rate.
The X220 with the Series 3 Workstation Dock will drive 2 of the Pro2840m through 2 separate displayport.
The X201 will also drive this 4K resolution, as long as the LCD's 4K can accept Displayport 1.1 standard (on the 1.2 standard, the LCD will stay blank).
    https://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/14671257827/in/set-72157645860787090
the above image confirms the 4K resolution and my X220 driving that resolution @ 30 hz.
For 60 hz refresh rate on the 4K resolution with integrated Intel GPU, you need Haswell CPU with the HD5000 graphics card, anything below that will only drive the 4K resolution at 30 Hz.

  • Incorrect resolution displayed on mavericks external display 1080p

hi.  i am running mavericks on imac (intel, amd radeon HD6970 1024mb) and have just added an external display (asus VN279) which i've tried connecting through both mini displayport to displayport and then mini displayport to hdmi.  when i select the resolution i have an option for 1080p which is the native resolution of the monitor (and the one that i want to run), however, the resolution that actually comes on the screen is terrible and a totally different and lower one. any ideas on what could be wrong?
    thanks

  • Refresh rate on MBPr?

    Hey,
just wondering, is the retina refresh rate 60Hz or 40Hz? My current laptop has 40Hz. How will setting like 30/40 instead of 60Hz affect notebook lasting on battery?

Most of the recent LCD displays work with a 60 Hz refresh rate, and the Retina display included on the MacBook Pro isn't an exception

  • IMac 27 working as external monitor on Win7 but are there drivers?

    Hi everybody,
A short explaination what I am doing and what i want to do.
I have a PC (only for gaming) connected to the iMac with an DisplayPort - MiniDisplayPort cable.
Everything works great. I have the full resolution everything fine.
My only question is, is there any driver out for the monitor of the iMac?
The reason why I ask is, because in Win7 the iMac Monitor is set to 59Hz instead of 60Hz. It is also not possible to switch it to 60Hz cause it won't be accepted. It is listed as PNP-Monitor (Plug and Play).
Is the driver included in the bootcamp drivers for win7? The display might be same to use as an cinema display in my opinion.
Maybe someone can give me some usful tips.
    greetings,
    Tom

    Hello mchanna,
I am currently using a normal mini displayport cable.
Here is a link how it looks like:
    http://www.ditech.at/artikel/KDIPM02/Mini_DisplayPort_Kabel_2m_weiss.html
In your case I think this should do it:
    http://store.apple.com/at/product/HA826ZM/A/belkin-mini-displayport-auf-hdmi-kab el-(4%C2%A0m)
After attaching the cable to the iMac, normally it should autmatically switch to externel display mode.
You can easily switch between iMac and external display with this command:
    CMD + F2
You also need no drivers for the display. If you have windwos 7 or above, the iMac will be recognized as Apple Cinema Display or so.
I using this setug over 2 years now.
    Works perfectly.
    I hope I could help you .
If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask .
    Greetings,
    Tom

  • Webcam flickering, I've tried everything...

It used to work and now all of a sudden, it flickers....... During a video call, my cam flickers (screen tears) in both the mini window and the video feed the other person see's. I've tried uninstalling Skype and using older versions, ive tried re-doing my webcam drivers multiple times. I've tried installing my webcams software, messed with settings, made sure my nvidea was set to let the program decide settings.... nothing works... I have a logitech C615 webcam and I'm using windows 7 64bit. Any additional ideas would be helpful!
    Edit: here's my dxdiag file.
    Attachments:
    DxDiag.zip ‏10 KB

Your DirectX diagnostic reports it as 2 cards that might just be due to how the card is designed.  I use *50, *60 and *70 series cards and my DirectX does not report my cards twice at all.  I have never experienced any flickering issues using single or multiple monitors though I've heard the 560 cards have had flickering issues in different applications in the past that were related to drivers.  So there could be some odd issue in the current release of driver for your 980.  I would suggest rerunning the latest driver install and selecting the option to do a clean install of the Nvidia drivers to reset every configuration to defaults (check the box prior to the install).  I had to do that recently to resolve crashes that may have been due to configurations left over from my older Nvidia card.  Another option is to rerun the install as custom and unchecking all extras like 3d Vision and Physx software to see if that is the source of the problem or a combination of the two.  If you have access to another machine you can see if the problem follows the card or not.  I don't believe the card is defective since it works everywhere else.  This is to just change some variables to see if the problem is consistent.
In regards to your webcam, check the setting of your camera either in its software or in Skype's video options to make sure the Powerline Frequency (Anti-Flicker) isn't forced to 50Hz (PAL/Europe) instead of 60Hz (NTSC/US) as that can be a source of flicker.   If you reside or are visiting Europe/PAL area you would want to change that to 50Hz.   Any other lighting/automatic control might also mimic similar behavior as well requiring static adjustments, if possible.    If the values are grayed out then the webcam or its driver doesn't support it.

  • 800x600 resolution being annoying

I'm using a Geforce 6200 with the Nvidia official drivers. xrandr -s 800x600 gives me an error:
    Cannot Display This Video Mode
    Optimum resolution 1280x1024 60Hz
Using nvidia-settings, if I set my resolution to 800x600 and my refresh rate to 60Hz(2) (only possible in advanced mode) instead of 60Hz(1)(Doublescan), it works. "xrandr -s 800x600 -r 60" works too. But this is really inconvenient because when I launch a game it automatically changes the resolution, to the not-working 800x600 mode...

I'm using the official nvidia driver. I don't remember the version but I've updated several times and the problem has persisted. (Even from back when I used Ubuntu.)
Shifting my xorg.conf makes it load a different driver, probably vesa. I made a minimal xorg.conf:

    Driver "nvidia"

  • Problem with ATV

hi this my first time using this support so please forgive me if i am being stupid.
i am trying to get mirroing up and running with ipad2 and second gen ATV my ATV is saying all softwere is upto date but it is only at 4.1 and i know i need 4.4 to get mirroing going
    any sugestions

  • TV green in HDMI 1080p 60hz I mean all green... Ok in 1080i 46XV640UZ

46XV640UZ All in green can't run and is flashing when in HDMI 1080p 60hz. I just bought a computer to plug to it and figure out it can't run 1080p... any idea of the problem?

Updated it to the firmare 1.03 but can't get it to accept the firmware 1.09 which is available...

  • [Cisco FAQ] - Why does myTV output 720p on some channels instead of 1080i?

My HDTV is 1080i resolution capable. Why do some channels show in 720p?

Several HD networks such as Fox  Broadcasting, ESPN and others broadcast in 720p because the picture is  considered to be smoother for fast action sports telecasts.
Also, check the resolution settings on your television to ensure maximum benefit from your device.
