1080p 30 to 720X480 16:9

I shot tape and digital at 1080p 30.  When I bring it into premiere pro I choose HDV 1080p 30 for the sequence.  It convets it to 720X480 16:9.  Why is that and how can I chnge it to see 1080p?

I think I know the problem!  Sorry I didn't think about it sooner...I haven't captured HDV in a long time.
There's a setting to tell Premiere whether you're capturing DV or HDV.  You must have it set to DV, since you were able to capture the downsized video from the camera.
In the "Capture" window, click the "Settings" tab, then the "Edit..." button under "Capture Settings".  Switch to "HDV", then hit "OK".  Reconnect your camera and you should be good to go!
You can also set this option when you create a new project, or change it in "Project Settings".  This is useful if you know you'll be solely using HDV footage in your project.

  • Lightroom Slideshow 1080P/720P/ 720x480 - IPad 3

These formats no longer show on my IPad 3 at one time they did. I have created slideshows that are linked through a URL to my website for several years now I have created them in 720p format and been able to veiw on my IPad 3, IPhone, Web etc. Recently however, they are not viewable - I get a play button with a slash through it. However, if I create a slideshow with the paremeters 960x540 it does work on the IPad 3. All these formats still work on my IPad 1, which makes me think it has something to do with the new OS? I have been trying to figure this out to no avail for weeks now....any thoughts?
    thanks

Thanks my friend - this resolved the issue. I ran one of the files through handbrake and it now works on my IPad and web and maintains the quality. I was familiar with handbrake as I have used it for other purposes in the past. It is strange though how this changed all of a sudden.

  • When I export 1080p XLM from imovie 09 into fce4 it appears as 720x480 ???

FCE4 really ***** compared to Adobe Premiere!!! Here's my problem. When I export a 1080p file from imovie09 using the XML export function it appears as 720x480 in fce4 ???? Also will the file suffer from the infamous single frame processing that imovie does???

FCE defaults to DV-NTSVC as you sequence setting.
Adjust the Easy Setup to match the incoming file BEFORE starting a Project and then import.

  • 24" iMac (Late 2006) Cannot Display 1080p on External HDTV

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure out if it's possible to connect my Samsung LN40A550 40" TV (http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=telev isions&subtype=lcdtv&model_cd=LN40A550P3FXZA) to my Late 2006 24" iMac at 1080p resolution. Currently, I'm using Extended Desktop mode with my iMac running 1920x1200 but the Display settings only lets me change the resolution on the TV to a maximum of 1080i. I've connected the TV to my iMac with a miniDVI-to-DVI adapter and then a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
Here are my iMac's tech specs: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP28
Here is a KB article about the iMac's external display port: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23844?viewlocale=en_US
Neither of these articles has said explicitly whether or not it is possible for me to output 1080p to my TV from my iMac. Do I need to use different cabling? I've tried reducing the resolution of the iMac to see if it was a video card restriction, but I still could not increase the TV's resolution.
I did notice that the newer iMac's specs say that they can output at 1080p: http://www.apple.com/imac/specs/
Perhaps my iMac just doesn't support external resolutions that high? So I looked up the video card (NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT - http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7300.html) and it does not appear to say whether or not it can handle two displays at 1920x1200. Under the "Advanced Display Functionality" heading it says:
    * Dual integrated 400MHz RAMDACs for analog display resolutions up to and including 2048x1536 at 85Hz
    * Dual-link DVI capability to drive the industry's largest and highest resolution digital flat panel displays up to 2560x16001
    * Integrated HDTV encoder provides analog TV-output (Component/Composite/S-Video) up to 1080i resolution
Any help figuring out how to connect my TV to my iMac at 1080p would be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers!
    -Aaron

hey there cooperaa & welcome to Discussions.
i didn't see anything in the fullspecs that said your TV does 1080p, just that it does 1920x1080. also, since 1080p was a fairly new "standard" for video(Blu-ray/HD-DVD) when your Mac was built, a 1920x1080 progressive output was possibly not included. i have an early 2006 17" iMac connected to my 42" HDTV over DVI>HDMI & i can get 1920x1080i, which is the highest rez my TV will accept & i use this iMac as my DVD player(along w/ an optical cable for audio) & have not noticed anything "ugly" w/ the picture as i have de-interlace selected on the DVD player(a standard DVD is 720x480). since Apple doesn't include a Blu-ray player/recorder in any of their machines what will you watch that will be in 1080p? generally if your TV does the higher rez, it will scale the rez to fit your settings--ie. a 1920x1080i broadcast on a 1280x720p TV will scale down to the TV's native rez as well a 1280x720p broadcast will be scaled up to 1920x1080i if that's the native rez.
    good luck.

  • Are you seeing a colour shift in 720p and 1080p h.264 slideshow exports?

When I export video from Lightroom 3 (or 3.2), I see that 720p and 1080p output can be very different in colour from other resolutions. It's as if my display profile were being ignored when playing back those particular resolutions.
Playback client: Apple's QuickTime Player X on Mac OS X 10.6.4. If I use VLC or QuickTime Player 7, colour is consistent across all export resolutions but is consistently wrong compared with the original photographs. (Again, it's as if the ICC display profile is being ignored.)
Display profile: my display is profiled and the profile is an ICC v4 file but I can reproduce the issue with some v2 profiles, as well.
    AVC vs h.264
One oddity (that might be a peculiarity of QuickTime Player) is that when I view the 720p and 1080p movies, and ask for information about codecs (command-i), QuickTime Player X tells me that these two movies use AVC encoding. For all the other sizes, it says claims h.264. My understanding is that these two are effectively the same thing; on the other hand, it's curious that the two sizes showing different colour from the rest are identified differently. And QuickTime Player 7 claims AVC for all resolutions and always gets the colour wrong.
Is this just a QuickTime Player X bug? It gets colour right for all resolutions except 720p and 1080p, and provides a clue by saying the movie uses the AVC codec? Or is this an encoding issue?
    Other sizes are fine
Exporting and playing back any other h.264 movie size, from 320 pixels right up to 960 pixels, provides perfectly acceptable colour in QuickTime Player X .There's a slight shift compared with the originals but nothing dramatic, and it's consistent across different sizes.
Any thoughts? Can you reproduce the problem?
I've tested this on a bunch of different Macs but they're all running 10.6.4.  Can anyone see this problem? Would anyone like to test on Windows and report back? The results seem to vary wildly depending on your display profile and how far it is from a canned profile so if you really want to be sure of seeing the differences, switch your display to "Wide Gamut RGB" for the playback test, then compare the 720p/1080p files with the rest, including the sRGB reference.
Would anyone like to tell me I'm being a complete idiot and overlooking something blindingly obvious? I won't be upset.
I was just about to post a note on the blog but thought I'd better post something here first. I'll probably ask readers to provide feedback here rather than on the site. I get the feeling that this issue won't be a big deal for most people.
    Some examples for download
I have a zipped collection of single-image slideshows generated by Lightroom at each available resolution, together with a 960-pixel JPEG (sRGB) of that same image to act as a reference. You can download it here (5.9MB). For the moment, you'll probably have to ignore the URL that you see in the slideshows and in the Read Me file—it points to the blog post that I was preparing but which I haven't yet published. I'll do that next so anyone reading the blog will come here and post.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I'm being dumb about something.
    Update
I've added a 720x480 file that shows the same problem and updated the URLs shown in the movies and the Read Me file.

    Bahi,
just to illustrate what mess this is, I tested for you on Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) using the same wide gamut monitor. Here are two screenshots from that experiment. I converted the screenshots from my display profile to sRGB to show you what I see and scaled down 50% (this is a 30" behemoth). First Leopard.
You see they are all the same, but different from the sRGB export you provided. The GB sticker is too blue and the tint on the car is wrong. I doubt anybody but a photographer would notice though.
    Next is Snow Leopard:
Here the 320 pixel, the 480 pixel and the 960 pixel image are different from the 720 pixel, the 720p and the 1080p ones. Neither is strictly correct as they are all different from the sRGB display. This is consistent with their being no real color management, just gamma corrections and color space transforms (video is usually not stored as RGB but as YUV, necessitating a transform for display). Annoying, but not much you can do about it.
Just doing some quick googling I came across many mentions of issues such as this. It clearly is just a big mess.

  • This new 1080p tv sets and my 1080i Sony camera-output from FCP

I use a Sony FX1. My best capture is at 1080i or 720p.
I've recently been recording at a higher shutter speed and am getting improved footage.
I note that FCP has an output option of 1080p - 30. Is this only half as good as the new monitors can show? If I eventually want to create highest quality for playback on 1080p-60 will I need an updated camera and will FCP have to offer 1080p-60?
    Since I've never viewed 1080p-60 is the - 30 vs - 60 a big issue?
Using the 1080p-30 makes for a much improved view than H264 720x480 or HDV 1080i any other settings up to this one. H264 is a GREAT file size saver but does not use near the bit rate of 1080p-30.
One other thing. When the new OS comes out with 64-bit processing, is FCP and DVDPro already ready. I have not found any specs on FCP 5.1.4 indicating it is 64-bit ready.

    ensure the following are set
View>Video Playback>Firewire Apple 720x480 (NTSC or PAL - whatever is appropriate)
    View>Audio Playback>Audio follows video
    View>External Video>All Frames
If this isn't what you are set to do, you won't be sending video out to your recorder.

  • 720x480 resolution is bad

I'm a noobie to Encore, I just created my first disc. The source is a Primere Pro project at 1920x1080 but after Encore gets through with it it's 720x480 and I can't find any way to change it. I know DVD doesn't support 1080p but I thought that it did support 720p. Am I doing something wrong or is this one of those "works as designed" issues? Honestly, the pixelation is so bad that it's useless. I even have an upsampling DVD player/recorder. When I record from TV it looks fantastic compared to Encore's recording so I know that the DVD format is capable of higher resolution.

    FOLLOW UP:
I purchased "DVD Demystified, 3rd ed" by Jim Taylor. It is an excellent book on all of the technical details of DVD authoring; I'm about 2/3 through it.
Along with this I've been poking at Encore to try and apply what I've learned. My 2nd and 3rd try was no better than the 1st that I originally complained about no matter what settings I used. The problem was that the Transcode Status was "transcoded", which appearently caches the transcoding step so that all my settings changes were ignored until I set the status back to un-transcoded; then my new settings took effect and the result was what I was shooting for. I'm still feel like I'm taking a shot in the dark with the settings I've chosen and would like to know if people think this is overkill.

  • Exported image is always stretched... source clips 1080p, sequence settings 720p.

So I'm trying to export a file from FC7 at 720p, but it always comes out stretched, no matter what resolution I have the export set to. The source clips are mostly 1080p, but I chose to edit 720p because my Mac was just too slow to be able to efficiently edit in 1080p.
    Sequence settings:
    Frame Size: 1280x720 (HD 720p)
Pixel Aspect Ration: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV (720x480)
    Anamorphic: Off
The clip settings are mostly 1920x1080, however I'm also working with some still images that vary in resolution. In editing, all of the clips are zoomed in, as I'm trying to cut out some aspects of the image, and focus on specific details within the clip's frame.
In the canvas, the image looks just as it should be, but whenever I export, it is noticeably stretched. I feel like I've run out of options, and I'm thinking of re-editing the entire thing (it's not that long) in 1080p. My gut tells me that it has to do with the clip formats being different from the sequence settings, but I can't figure out anything else that I could try to get it to export properly.
I was hoping if anybody had any ideas, they could shoot them my way. I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately this did not work, but I feel like it should have when I observe the clip settings. Interestingly, when I set the sequence Pixel Aspect Ratio to square, the image on the canvas appears stretched in the same way that it does in all the exported files that I had previously created. The clip settings are as follows:
    Resolution: 1920x1080
    PAR: Square
    Compressor: H.264
    Frame rate: 59.94
Other images that I used are varying resolutions, but also have a square PAR. The sequence settings are as I mentioned in the opening post, but here are some added details that vary from the clip settings:
    Compressor: Apple Proress422
    Frame rate: 29.97
I tried changing all of the PAR of the clip settings to match the sequence settings, but this didn't work either. Honestly, I think I might just resort to working within 1080p where the sequence settings are changed to match the clip settings exactly, because I opened up a test sequence and it works just fine this way. I appreciate the help a lot though, thank you!

  • 1920x1080p to SD-DVD (720x480)

    Hey everyone,
I have some 1080p videos I'd like to author to a regular DVD using Encore.
I know (or am pretty sure) I have to re-encode them beforehand and I'm running into some perplexing stumbling blocks.
Using Adobe Media Encoder, I've tried just about every iteration of downscaling the videos to 720x480 with varying results.  Besides looking terrible (which was kind of expected), I'm having A/R problems.
Sometimes the options I choose squish the content into 4:3.  When I do choose a preset or customize one that displays it widescreen, there are always black bars on the side that vary in width.  Maybe 20px a side one time, 50px another.
Does anyone have any experience doing these kinds of conversions?
Basically what I want to do is take a bunch of 1080p videos and author them to a regular DVD while preserving the aspect ratio of the original videos.
I've tried MPEG2, MPEG2-DVD (Widescreen), etc., etc. to no avail.
    Here's an example of a video I re-encoded using MPEG2-DVD, 720x480, Widescreen 16:9.
    Thanks!

There will be some unavoidable softening, but "awfully soft" implies an unacceptable degree of softness, and may indicate other issues at play.  Make sure your 1080p30 footage is being interpreted correctly.  Double-check your sequence settings to make sure they perfectly match your source footage.  Make sure you don't select the option in the render settings to Use Render Files.  Re-verify your export settings.
I'm not encoding from Premiere, I'm encoding from the MP4 file I created from Premiere from the source MTS and audio.  Would that make a difference?  The MP4 is encoded at the max bitrate of the MTS at 16mbps so I wouldn't think so.  I mean I expected some quality degradation but not as bad as I think it looks.
Yes.  Adobe adjusted the PAR values in CS4 to match the BBC's values.
    PAR and BBC?  (sorry)
So when I author a DVD with these downscaled files, I can expect those slim black bars on the side instead of the widescreen completely filling the screen?
No.  AAMOF, Encore prefers elementary audio and video streams.
Which is just a matter of adding the a/v streams to a timeline and snapping them to the beginning I hope...

  • 1080p/50

My panasoic camcorder's best quality is 1080p/50, what are the  settings for burning a movie to a DVD to play on a Blu-ray player ?

A DVD is always going to be standard definition.  They will be 720X480.
If you want to burn a Blu-Ray, then you have the options for HD playback.  There are Blu-Ray specific presets available when exporting out your movies.  H.264 Blu-Ray would be the place to start.  Just make sure you are using Blu-Ray media and a Blu-Ray writer.

  • Converting sequence from 720 to 1080p

I'm taking over a project from another editor who mistakenly created a 720P sequence to edit a project shot at 1080p. The rough cut sequence is at 720p—if I copy/paste that into a 1080 sequence, or change the settings of the 720 sequence to 1080, the images do not increase size to match the frame. Is there an easy way to do this so that it happens automatically, or do I have to copy/paste distort and scale attributes to all the clips in the sequence?
    Thanks
    Patrick
--Just realized the original sequence was actually created as 720x480 sequence, although it's still the same issue really.
Message was edited by: P.N. Barnes

Paste everything into the new sequence. Highlight all of your clips. Now you click on FILE>REMOVE ATTRIBUTES...basic motion and distort.

  • Exporting 1080p to 720p

This is quite a basic question. I'm finding that when exporting my 1080p videos to 720p Premiere is cropping them. In the export window i'm selecting "scale to fit" but even the preview appears cropped from the original file. Is there an option I'm missing?

I hope this will help, as I had a similar problem, but not exporting from 1080p to 720p.
My problem: the videos I had was 1280x1024, when I export, is automatically cropped to 720x480, even if export settings is set to higher, it only shows 720x480 of the video
Solution to it thanks to Harm Millaard and the_wine_snob: When you make a new sequence, go to the General tab, and set the resolution, FPS and such to your source video, using Desktop as your editing mode.
Not sure if is the same problem, but maybe this will help.

  • MacBook Pro mid-2010 15-inch Supports Monitor at 720p but not 1080p

    Hello all,
    Systems Specs:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
Processor: 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    Startup Disk: Macintosh HD
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 256 MB
I am attempting to connect my MBP to a new Asus VE278Q, 27inch 1920x1080. I use a mini-display port to HDMI monoprice cable. I can connect at 720p and the display looks fine. When I switch to 1080p the monitor flickers and turns to snow within a few seconds. My parents' 2013 MBP, using the same cable, can connect to the monitor and display perfectly.
The technical specs for a mid-2010 MBP say that it can support  "up to 2560 by 1600 pixels on an external display." It should be able to support this monitor easily. I have also tried to connect it to a Sony 1080p TV, where it registered as black screen.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Is there something wrong with my graphics card?

It doesn't really matter if it's an 10 or 8 bit video, it always falls back to software decoding, spouts out these error messages and as a result
the video is completely fucked up or just stutters/drops frames like crazy. This only happens with 1080p videos, 720p or below is just fine.

I'm experiencing this as well, specifically on 0.4.x. If I downgrade to 0.3.9 it works fine, vdpau and all. Try it yourself. I'm thinking it's a bug in mpv.

what do i need to connect my mac book pro to the tv with the mac's thunderbolt port to hdmi? I have the newest macbook pro. I'm wanting to have the best picture I can get from my 1080p tv. thanks

Thanks Community! I solved the problem. In fact it was not a problem but lack of understanding. These guys at Apple are way ahead in thir thinking. I will try to explain as short as I can.
In Lion, ihe Prefferences/Display show only two choices: 6-7 steps of resolution and some color tab. No two screens, no two display to overlap, nothing for us to do. "That was the problem"! Everything is automatic.
When I connected the HDMI cable to the Miniport into a T-bolt slot, the TV screen showed the "spiral galaxy" how Zyriab is calling it. In fact he gave me the best clue. That shows the connection is good. But where is the Mac Book image?
You have to drag it to the right out of the Mac Book display area, and "voila!" it will continue on the TV screen. The same with the mouse pointer, push it out ofthe Mac Book display area and you see it on the TV sreen. Good image, you can keep the max resolution, etc. The sound is still on the Book's speakers. I have to figure that out.
Thank everybody, especialy Zyriab, ne was the closest.
    High regards to everybody
