1080p downloads from Blu Ray digital copies available?

I have a number of digital copies from Blu Rays I've purchased, and I'm curious if I can redownload them in 1080p.
So far, after removing them and redownloading them from the Cloud on my MacBook, the answer is no.
For example, I tried to do this with Star Trek, which is definitely available in HD.  If I remove the movie and try to redownload it, it only downloads in SD.
I set my store preferences to download in 1080p when available as well.
Is doing what I'm trying to do undoable?  I'd really like to update my digital copies to HD versions now that they're available.

This seems a common problem. I have the latest iTunes; got Night at the Museum; redeemed code and straight away got this same error. I de-authorised this account and reauthorised and it worked. Not sure that I have to do this each time, but hopefully iTunes bug fix is coming...

  • Can I download Blu-ray digital copies to more than one iTunes library?

I downloaded the digital copy of Paranormal Activity from the provided disc to itunes. After it finished downloading I rightclicked and selected Get Info. It says "Fairplay Version 3" What does this mean? Does this mean I can download this movie more than one time?
Also, if I can downloaded it more than once can I also downloaded it on my wife's laptop under her itunes account or is the code connected just to my account now.

That's the current Apple DRM for videos.
If your wife's laptop is on the same account as yours just copy the download to her machine.
You can run the movie on any 5 authorized machines but you can't download it again from iTunes.

  • Will digital copies from blu-rays stream on apple tv in full hd?

Will my iTunes digital copies from blu-rays stream on the new apple tv in full hd? I have some right now on my apple tv 2 that stream from the cloud but do not appear to be in 720p. Can someone help me clarify?

It probably depends on the specific digital copy, but all of the ones I've ever gotten have been SD, not HD, I would guess that the movie studio expects you to play the Blu-Ray disk if you want HD and so provides SD for portable devices.
    Regards.

  • I just bought Thor Blu-ray   digital copy.  The digital copy disc is not loading on my Macs (x3).  Any ideas?

I purchased Thor on Blu-ray + digital copy.  I tried transferring the movie to my MacPro tower, but the digital copy disk will not load.  I'm able to insert it and I can hear the drive trying to read it, but after about a min., it is ejected.  I also tried on two separate MacBook Pros.  All three machines are running 10.6.8.

Chris, if you read the full question, you'll see that I am referring to the "digital copy disc" which is a standard DVD.

  • Can't play digital copy from blu-ray titles on iTunes 9.0.2.25?

I tried to download and watch the digital copy of Star Trek that is included with my Blu-ray. It prompted me to enter my authorization code then had me log into the iTunes store. It seemed to download the movie fine (the download progress bar filled). When I tried to play the movie, it just brought up a gray window with no picture or audio. The progress bar and time indicator seemed to progress properly. The chapter selection menu showed the correct thumbnail pics. But there was only the gray screen with the control panel buttons on the bottom.
Trying to sync with my iTouch told me it was not copied to my iTouch because I am not authorized to play it on this computer?
I tried the same with Wathchmen with the same results. I was able to view the movie fine with the Windows Media version of the digital copy.
I'm running Windows XP Pro. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

I use the 32-bit version but noticed the same behavior. I found that if I started iTunes from the Start Menu I could right-click the icon on the Taskbar and selected Pin to Taskbar. Worked perfectly with full Win7 integration.
As you know, the pin function prior to 9.0.2.25, allowed pinning from a shortcut. I've found other anomalies also so I wouldn't be surprised if a newer update will be pushed out soon.

  • Blu Ray digital copy downloads audio issues.

I have the Apple TV 2 and love it but I have a few movies that I got from iTunes as digital copy downloads from buying a bluray disc that the audio doesn't stream to the tv. It's a crackling static sound.
Plays fine on computer and on iphone but not to tv. Have other films I have received this way that play fine. Did I get a bad download or is it something else?
    Thanks

Can you try changing the audio track - maybe it's ouputting dolby digital and the TV can't handle it.
Also turn off Dolby Digital out in the Settings menus.
Might be worth you mentioning the film, or checking iTunes reviews on the film to see if there are known issues.

  • How to ensure iTunes download in blu-ray combo pack?

When purchasing a blu-ray combo pack, how can you determine if the digital copy will be honored by the iTunes Store? Is there a certain logo to look for?  I am seeing less packs with the actual iTunes logo.  The words "works with iTunes" is meaningless since that might mean they expect you to copy a file from their web site into iTunes OR add an extension to iTunes.  I'm looking for some way to ensure the code in the combo pack is REDEEMABLE from the iTunes Store.
Prior to every other provider popping up, I would always purchase the blu-ray combo pack before buying the download directly from iTunes. After getting burned a few times by mediocre companies with proprietary downloads I stopped buying discs altogether. With over 1,000 owned movies from iTunes, countless purchased TV seasons, eight AppleTV devices, and multiple iPads and iPhones, I really do not want to move away from Apple.
    Thanks, in advance.

Wow, you're locked into the Apple ecosystem!
    Here's how to tell:
If it says "Digital Copy", then it's iTunes compatible. Usually, you have to go to the Film Distributor's website, enter the code, then it passes you iTunes for download. Sometimes it's just copying from a DVD to your hard drive (which you can then use in iTunes).
If it says "Ultraviolet Digital", you're not going to be able to use it in iTunes. I've not seen any that are just Ultraviolet.
See this link at Amazon. It has links to each of the major studios, all of which have slightly different rules and policies.

  • Capturing from Blu-Ray

    Greetings...
There is a very short clip which I need to capture from a commercial Blu-Ray disc.
I want to get the material converted to a .mov.
I have tried various ripping app like AnyDVD HD with no avail.
    I have a Blu-Ray reader on a PC and a stand alone Blu-Ray player.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I contacted and requested an un-encrypted Blu-ray. Not likely to get it, but they are trying.
Good luck with your experiment. On the other hand, if you have the raw material, why not simply do the compression yourself (just don't burn the disk) and compare that to the original.

  • No Dialog (audio) from Blue Ray Player

I am running a Sharp BD-HP21U blue ray directly into a Mitsubishi LT-52149 HDTV with an HDMI cable.  On all blue ray discs and some DVDs I only hear the background music/sound effects but no dialog.  On some DVDs I get dialog.  Same result with a different HDMI cable.  I have tried different sound settings on the blue ray and TV but haven't found the right combination.  My DirecTV (through an HDMI cable works fine).

I wonder if your player is set to 5.1...
Your TV is stereo, nothing more, so you won't get any sort of surround sound from it, and the TV or the player might be confused.
That's about as much as I can guess... one of the TV guru's should be along.

  • Trying to Create DVD from Blu-Ray Project

I'm a fairly new user to Encore CS4.   I was able to successfully create a Blu-Ray project using HD video - the actual video is a little over 3 hours.   It took about 30 hours for the project to transcode and burn.   I'm now trying to take that same project and created a single layer DVD.   I'm really struggling with this even though the software says I should be able to do this.    So I set all my settings up to create the DVD and started the process.   It was trancoding the video for 6 straight days!!!!!    When it finally got finished with the transcoding process I got an error that said this aspect ration was not supported by DVD!!!   So I'm confused at what I'm doing wrong.   First, I don't think the transcoding process should be taking that long.   Second, if the aspect ration is not correct, could it tell me that before it spends 6 days transcoding the video?    Third, I'm trying to burn the DVD using the same 16:6 widescreen aspect ratio, so I'm not sure why it's telling me the aspect ratio is not correct.    But what frustrates me the most is that it took wasted days before the software told me it didn't like the aspect ratio.
I know there's products on the market that will basically copy a Blu Ray to a DVD and are supposed to do that in something like 4 -5 hours.  Why on earth would Encore be taking 6 days to transcode my video.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
    Thanks!

Thanks, I'll try these suggestions next.  I had found a post from "janaiott" suggesting to select "interpret footage" then choose "conform to SD NTSC Widescreen".   They said that worked for them.   This post was titled "Use the same project to export to both BR and DVD?"
I tried that and restarted the build.  The video transcoding went much quicker - instead of running for 6 days it finished in 2 days.   However, at the end of the transcode process I once again recieved the aspect ratio error.   My exact error is:
PGD "Sequence 01/Band.prproj" has an error at 88.8888s.  The aspect ratio of this file is not supported by DVD. - PGC info:  Sequence 01/Band.prproj =Bpgc, time=88.8888s.
I'm still just baffled why Encore can't be smart enough to tell me it doesn't like what I'm doing before it spends all that time - what a waste of time!  I really don't mind waiting 2 days as long it works
If anyone else has any suggestions, please post - but I will move on to the next suggestion and see what happens.  Just too bad it will take at least 2 days to know whether it works or not

  • Shooting/Editing HDV Before Blu-Ray Equipment Is Available ?

I have recently purchased a Canon HV20 consumer HDV camcorder. However, I have not got any Blu-Ray burning/playback equipment and will not be getting any until the prices drop to a quarter of the present levels.
This means that I am presented with a number of choices as to how I shoot and edit the material.
I have worked out the following solutions but would value any comments as to their feasibility etc.
    1. The camera can shoot both HDV and DV. I think my best choice is to shoot HDV (for future re-editing) even though my final output will be DV at present. The only downside I can see is that I believe that HDV motion does not look as good as DV ?
    2. The camera can down-convert the HDV to DV so should I capture the down-converted video and edit in DV or would it be preferable to keep everything as HDV ? I am inclined to prefer the latter option.
    3. Assuming that I shoot and edit in HDV is the best and simplest way of transferring the project to DVD by selecting File>Export>QuickTime Movie and then importing it into iDVD/DVDSP ? (Actually, iDVD does everything I require).
    4. I believe that a standard definition DVD made from HDV material looks better than one made from DV. Is this correct ?
    Ian.

    4) Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I work with baseband video, both SD and HD, and I find even cross-converted HD (1080 to 720 and visa versa) to be ugly and the hardware cross/down/up converters I have to deal with are obscenely expensive. Again, if you like the product, that's all the matters.
    3) Best and simplest are often mutually exclusive ideas. This workflow has been talked about for years on the board now, not sure if anyone's come up with anything that everyone likes. Search for the The Bonsai Method, that seemed to be a happy medium.
    2) See #4 above. I should think that that you'd want to capture native what you shot but then I would recommend that you do a test to see which method you like better. I'm sure there will be others talking about the need for "future proofing" which as an idea I think is kinda funny as who really knows what the future is. I found some discs for a Bernoulli drive the other day, that was the future then.
    1) See #2. Your point about HDV motion is reasonable but like anything, the video format is just a tool to be considered. Many folks don't even bother to think about the package acquiring that video format. Your HV20 is TINY!! Tiny means small lensing, small imagers which play the largest part in the quality of the acquisition.
I saw an hd broadcast on a Sony tube hdtv via DishNetwork of "The Deadliest Catch" which is acquired through sony hdv cameras. I, frankly, was shocked at how good the show looked. I found a lot of artifacting but honestly, given the tech specs of the blasted format, that HDV should not have looked that good.

  • Pioneer BDR-101A Blu-ray burner now available, for just $999

Is this blue ray/ hd dvd worth the money! They say it can burn hd dvd and blu-ray dvds. Please give me your thoughts?

No, not worth the money at this point, but it's not aimed at people who are looking for value. Right now it is the ultimate earlier adopter toy.
I'd love one so I could finally burn footage from my Hi-Def camcorder, but the price tag is just too steep, when I'm sure it will be $500 in six months or $250 in a year. I'm happy to just wait a bit longer. My footage isn't going anywhere.

You left the Uverse feed (to go to Blue Ray) and the DVR never got the 'see ya later' HDMI message from the TV and went into a conniption fit.
That's just the way it unluckily works, solution is to connect the DVR and TV w/component cables, getting the same HD PQ.  No headaches from the quirky DVR on HDMI.
I've had to go to component cables due to the black crush problems on my 1225 on HDMI and I love it.
