1080p footage exporting with bad resolution

I have 1080p footage that i imported into final cut pro, i am done editing but when i export it, it has very bad quality and it is a lot smaller in the screen, my guess is that i imported the footage with the wrong settings. Would you know if I can change the settings in my current project? I would really hate to start everything from scratch. Thanks!

Try this, copy a clip and paste it into a new sequence. You sould get a warning asking if you want to change the sequence to match the clip, Say yes. If you don't get that warning, stop an make sure the sequence is actually set to match the clip.
when you paste it in, the clip should look small in the Canvas. Select the clip and right-click on it to see the Remove Attributes options and remove scale and distortion. The clip shoudl be normal now.
Delete the clip, go back to your problem sequence, select all, copy. Go to the new empty sequences, paste. Select all, remove attributes.

  • Generating movies with bad resolution

    Hello all, Hello all,
I hope everything is going well and I apologize for my poor English. I am creating movies using IMovie’08 and sharing with IDVD. The final result that I get generating DVD is a video with bad resolution.
I have recorded all videos in 1080i using a SR12 Sony handycam and imported to IMovie with this resolution. I prepare an IMovie project and shared by Media Browser using large size, that I know is a smallest size than 1080i.
I set the encoding mode on IDVD to Professional Quality and generated a DVD. The result image’s quality on DVD is similar to a VHS tape! I generated 4 different DVD and tested all these DVD using different DVD players and different televisions and the result were always the same.
Please, can someone inform me what I am doing wrong or provide me some tips to get better results?
    Thank you all in advance.

No matter what you send to iDVD will be encoded as SD 640x480 "square" pixel content to a "720x40" rectangular pixel data matrix. In other words the best resolution you could expect would be half of what you started with and at the third generation of transcoding. (I.e., 1080i AVCHD => 1080i AIC/AIFF => 960x540 H.264/AAC => 720x480 (640x480) MPEG2/PCM.)
can someone inform me what I am doing wrong or provide me some tips to get better results?
If you are expecting HD quality on a standard DVD, then your expectations may be too high for this work flow. Using a more professional editor and/or burning as HD optical content may better suit your needs/expectations.

  • Dvd Menu Adobe Premiere Elements 10 for Mac with bad resolution

    Hi, I use a MacBookPro with Mac OS X 10.6.8 - Intel Core i5 2,4 GH - RAM 4 GB.
I just purchased PRE 10 version hoping to solve a problem I had with version 9 for Mac but not with a version 7 for Win.
    I
My problem is that when I burn the dvd with the final work in PAL system, the menu of the DVD has the text very blurred at a very bad resolution.
I searched this forum and I didn't found a similar problem for Mac user.
I had the same problem with PRE 9.
Same problem if I insert a logo in the corner of the video. Very bad resolution image in the final dvd.
I tried to change the beginning resolution of the image from very low to very high and the result was the same.
Someone has similar problems? Someone did find a way to solve it?

Dear Bill, many thanks for your answer.
This is the Project Preset chosen.
As the source is a JVC Everio with hard disk, I chose PAL - Hard Disk - Widescreen 48 KHz
The source is as I said a JVC Everio in SD size. I saved the files in a backup Hard Disk. They are .mod files.
I don't know how to see if a Menu Sets is HD or SD. I tried almost all the available Menu Sets always with the same blurry results.
These images explain better than words.
Note that the firt image in the DVD Menu is perfect, not blurry. And this add a little bit of mystery :-)
this is the scene selection that has text blurry
And this is the logo I put in the right bottom side of the video. It is blurry. I put a high resolution image and it was blurry. Then I tried with an image .png with the same width of the video (720 pixels) and this is the same blurry effect:
The solution I use in these days to have goog results is very time expensive.
I make the editing work in my mac, without logo and menu. I make a dvd. Then I import the VIDEO_TS folder in my old pc, with my old version of Adobe Premiere 7.0. I insert the logo, I make the menu and then I make a dvd with my old PC and the resolution is the one I want.
Obviolusly I'd like to do all the work in my Mac...
The same problems and solution I used also with PRE 9.0
By the way, I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements in my Mac instead  iMovie because I need to do videos longer than 2 hours. And iMovie has this limit.
Many thanks in advance for help. There is someone that is using Mac and PRE 10 with GOOD results?

  • Monitor awakens with bad resolution choices

I have a MacBook Air, running OS 10.9.5, connected to an LG monitor (LG IPS LED 24EC53).   In normal operation (e.g., when first starting up) all is ok.  However, if the Mac goes to sleep and then is reawakened sometimes the LG monitor comes up with really awful resolution choices (e.g., 800 x 600, with the top choice being 1400 x 1050).  When things are right the resolution is 1920 x 1080.
I notice also that in Display settings the top of the window, when bad, reads "VGA Display" rather than presenting the name in the profile (as it displays when things are good): "24EC53"
When bad, when I click the "Color" tab I do see the Profile for the LG (when I force it to display all Profiles) but I cannot seem to cause it to apply/use that profile.
I took my question LG support and they turned the problem back at the computer/OS:  "The description provided suggests that the computer is not recognizing the device when it tries to restart.  The monitor has not changed in its operations, and does not have the capabilities of changing the resolution on its own, without the software that is in the computer."
My fix is to put the system back to sleep, wait a few minutes, then reawaken it (at which point it is generally ok).  Sometimes, tho', I do need to do a full restart.
    Any ideas?

  • P2 footage exporting with grey blocks

    Hi,
I'm having sudden issues with exporting P2 footage out of Final Cut Pro 7. A weekend ago this was not the case and I exported in a bunch of different formats with no problems from the exact same p2 footage as I am having issues with now.
Today, no matter what settings I use I get 7 grey blocks on my footage (three on each side and one in the center). This doesn't happen in my timeline, or in the preview window. The blocks showed up in the preview window in the log and transfer window, but not on the transcoded quicktime files when I open them in either QTx or in QT7. (Also, before all my upgrading to the new Final Cut and QT7 pro I downloaded something to let me view DVCPro HD video files and since it was just a trial version there were these exact same grey blocks.)
I'm thinking this is probably a codec issue, but as I mentioned it worked fine a few days ago. Could it just mean that I need to re-install something? Anyone had this happen to them before?
I just want to get a fairly small sized .mov file that I can send for review.
    Thanks!

Is there a way to check which P2 format from the P2 folders themselves? The cameraman is unavailable to check the files on his camera, so I don't know if the blocks are showing up on the camera though I suppose not. As I said these same files worked perfectly with no problems exporting in any format not five days ago.
The problem is that the blocks show up whenever I try to export the edited P2 video, in anything other than the native format, I get gray blocks burned in my video clip.
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

I am having trouble with the initial connection of the apple tv. I have isolated the problem to the cable/connection. My new hdmi cable has a resolution up to 1080p...does the resolution matter?is this the right hdmi cable for the apple tv?

There are only two types of HDMI cables (standard and high speed - listen to all 1.2, 1.3 etc etc nonsense they will try to tell in the store) both types will work with the Apple TV.
The cable may be faulty though, have you got another to try, what exactly is happening.

  • What causes ad-hoc to run with bad plan and its resolution

One of our Company Application funcnalities uses the ad-hoc query that returns top first row from the result sets .There has been several times since this ad-hoc query ran with a bad
execution in last 8 months .There is no specifice time and date or day when this query run with bad execution plan ,however whenever this query ran with a bad execution plan on SQL ,that happed always early in the morning , before 6am .The setting of database
parameterization is set to forced .There is SQL maintenance reindexing job that runs each night at 2am that changes the recovedry model of our production database from Full to simple and changing back from simple to full after the reindexing operation .That
causes the SQL plans to flush each night .The next day morning , when the application ad-hoc query runs on SQL first time , SQL generates a new plan for that query . Some strange reason , SQL genarates a good plan for that ad-hoc query most of the times ,but
sometime this query picks up a bad plan .Whenever it happen, the application function becomes exetremly slow and it seems that the rest of the fuctionalities work fine meantime .
Our application vender is aware of this issue and this issue will be fixed in the application next release .Developer is converting the ad-hoc query into stored procedure to fix this
issue .Application new relase will not available for next 2-3 months ,meantime we still have to deal with the ad-hoc query bad execution plan issue . Usually ,when the ad-hoc query run with the bad execution plan , I retrieve the query bad plan and just remove
the plan for that particular query from cache .Once the bad plan is removed from cache , the perfomance gets back to normal .
As my understanding, this issue is related to parameter sniffing .but anyone thinks there are other factors responsible for this issue such as the network problem , the resource intensive
report ran or something else .
Has anyone have step by step troubleshooting steps that could help me with my investigation and what areas
do I need to look into in order to investigate what could caused the ad-hoc query to pick up bad plan ?
Any help will be apprecited .
    Daizy

When we upgraded our Production Database to SQL server 2008R2 enterprise Edition. We ran into the transaction log file to grow too large during the reindexing job activities at night .To prevent the transaction log file to grow big , we had decided to change
the recovery model of database from FULL to Simple before the reindexing job starts and the recovery model of Database is changed from Simple to Full after the reindexing job finishes . We also have the differential backup job setup right after the recovery
model change back to full so the transaction log backup chain does not break.
The transaction log chain breaks when you set the recovery to simple.
Yes, if you take a diff backup, you can apply transaction logs from that point
if the diff backup is good. If the diff backup is bad, you will lose all updates after you set recovery to simple. And, yes, when you hardware starts to deteoriate, you should not be surprise that the last backup is not good.
Again, please stop setting recovery to simple, unless you have a very relaxed RPO in your SLA. Use bulk-logged recovery instead.
By the way, you do take a t-log backup before you change the recovery mode, don't you?
Changing the database recovery model does flush the SQL plans for specific Database. Please review this linkhttp://sqlblogcasts.com/blogs/steveh/archive/2010/09/02/changing-recovery-model-removes-plans-from-procedure-cache-for-a-database.aspx
Hmmm. I don't have the time to verify this right now. Anyway, reindexing is good enough to flush the cache of most plans.
I have pretty much all required info regarding this query , but what other areas or investigation do I need to do for the query parameter sniffing issue ?
Have you researched what values the initial plan is sniffed for?
As Erland said  adding space in query ,I don?t know adding space means just add additional space in the query so it hashes a different values .Please advice .
Obviously, you need access to the application code. The other alternative is to set up an early morning job that runs after this first execution and which forces a recompilation; either by evicting this specific plan or more brutally runs sp_recompile on
one of the tables in the query.

  • Working with footage exported from After Effects

    Hello!
I'm using after effects because i'm more familiar with it and i don't want to relearn a visual effects software right now, so hopefully some of you might be familiar with it.
I compiled my video using a NTSC DV Widescreen composition. I exported out of the render queue. When i play from the finder the video is in the widescreen format i exported with.
However when i import to Final Cut Express, instead of automatically adjusting to the format of the clip (which is a .mov) it gives me the red render bar. Additionally, it squashes the widescreen into standard format, which remains when exported.
I need to keep this video in the widescreen format. Does anyone have any idea on how i could do this? Thanks!

    According to Final Cut,
The clips are: Frame Rate- 29.97
    frame size- 720x480
    compressor - animation
    data rate - 20 mb/s
    field dominance - lower (even)
    Pixel Aspect - NTSC - CCIR 601
The sequence im trying to edit them in (the default fcp gave me when opened)
Everything is the same accept the compressor is DV/DVCPRO - NTSC

  • Footage pixelated when exported with compressor

I've film HD video and edited with FCP, the aspec ratio on the sequence is 720x480 anamorphic, and it looks great, when I export it with QuicK Time it looks great but DVD Studio Prp doesn't support the settings. when I export it with Compressor, DVD Studio Pro imports it fine, but it is very, very pixelated.
What would be the best option to use when exporting with Compressor.
What I want is that the WideScreen image shrinks when viewing it on a Standard TV, I've done it with iDVD but when watching it on a standard tv is cuts the two sides of the image.
    Thank you for your help.

If editing HD material you would be best off editing in the HD timeline, size and Codec (not sure if you did that and then down rezzed?) SD DVDs used compressed video, so anything that compresses things more prior to the compression to an SD m2v (video used on DVDs) can lead to more of a quality hit.
Anyway what you would do is export the movie as self-contained movie, reference movie or directly to Compressor to a 16:9 m2v preset (including one you made yourself) and use that in DVD SP

  • Rendering error message with "Bad TV" effect

    Hi Everyone!
I am receiving a error message when rendering: "the effect "bad tv" failed to render: Your hardware cannot render at the requested size and depth"
My computer has been setup to handle the demands of FCP- 2x3 GHz OCTO with 10 GB of RAM. Why is this happening? Does this mean I have to spend $1500 for a graphics card? Rather not...
Here's more info about what I am trying to accomplish:
(Media: DVD imported/exported with MPEG Streamclip to HDV 1080i60.
Sequence settings: HDV 1080i60) I have my reasons for setting my edit up this way I promise!
Editing for a commercial with some poor footage from 4th Gen. DVD. Instead of trying to make the video look the best, I've decided to go the other way and to make it look worse with Bad TV effect. I have layered 6 files of the DVD to create ghost or duplicate images both on the right and left side of the original footage to take the eye away from the crappy copied DVD footage. When I tried to render out the footage the error message comes up each time.
    THANKS!!!

I think your confusion is based on the fact that you are interchanging the graphics card, and a video capture card. They are not the same thing.
The graphics card or display card is the piece of hardware that drives your monitor. It's also used to enhance graphic programs like Photoshop, Motion, etc. It's also what is used to render the cool 3D graphics of games like Halo, and Call of Duty. A good one with an 8K texture limit is around $225 or so.
A video capture card is a piece of hardware that allows you to capture full frame SD and HD (depending on the card) through an SDI or other cable. It is a way to capture the video signal as opposed to the video file (as Firewire does). These cards can also send full res signals out to a deck or broadcast monitor.
As far as your gfx card goes, I think the 2600 is a 4K texture limit. Buying the ATI 3870 or 4870 (if your computer is compatible) will give you an 8K texture limit.
To send full resolution HD out to a deck or monitor, you will need a capture card. Firewire is typically used to export DV DVCProHD or HDV. There are products out there that use firewire to IN/OUT other formats such as ProRes, but it's still a piece of hardware you have to buy. MOTU has a product like that. AJA has the IO that uses a firewire connection. There are others as well.
I hope this clears up some of your confusion.

  • HELP! What are the settings to export with the highest quality (I will show my project in a cinema.)

    Hello,
I have a project I will be showing at a local cinema, and I need to have the best possible quality for that......
My source footage is SD, so I am exporting it as a MPEG2-DVD project, the first time I exported (with the default MPEG2-DVD settings) and burned it, it looked good (at least on my 34" TV) but I am not sure if that quality will be as good when projected on a cinema screen...
So, what I need to know is, which of the MPEG2-DVD export settings I must change in order to get the quality I am looking for.....
BTW I am using Adobe Premiere CS4 and the whole Creative Suite 4....
    Thanks in advance
    Al

If it looks good on your tv it will look good at the cinema.
The resolution will still be 720x480/576 if a dvd player is hooked up to the projector.

  • Very bad resolution in menus (templates)

I have a number of films taken with a camcorder Canon Vixia HF10. The camera settings are set to NTSC with frame rate 60, AVCHD.
In my iMac (OS X vers.10.7.3), I tried first to edit my movies in iMovie, but soon I discovered that iMovie did not properly manage the  AVCHD format.
With Adobe's Premiere Elements , I could however handle the AVCHD format in an excellent manner. But when I got to the final stage to create a menu
of my film footage (where I used Premiere's menu templates) the menus were very bad with poor resolutions. I could see this both at "preview" and on DVD.
The actual films were great with a real AVCHD resolution on DVD.
Why does this happen to the menus? Do I need to burn out my movies without menus?

    Hi Bill,
    Thanks for the welcome.
I have only used HD Menu Sets.
But which one of the Available Presets in Project settings shall I use according to my camera settings (see my first question)?

Did you use an HD Menu Set, or and SD Menu Set. As your AVCHD material is HD, you should use only an HD Menu Set.
I also assume that you chose the proper Preset at New Project, to match your footage 100%. Is that correct, or did you choose something else.
For the HD Project from that footage, you should be authoring a BD (Blu-ray Disc) and not a DVD, which is SD, and not HD, like the footage. Did you mean BD, when you typed "DVD?"
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

  • Can you help me fix my screen? It randomly has a bluish tint, bad resolution and horizontal flashing lines

    Hi all,
    It's a 15" 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MBP running on Leopard 10.5.8, bought spring 2008.
About a couple of weeks ago, my screen started randomly switching to a strange blue / purple tint along with a bad resolution (can't really read text on screen) and flashing horizontal lines in the background. It started worrying me given I'm working with it all the time and am hoping for this machine to hold on for a few more months until I can buy a new one.
It would happen randomly for a few minutes at a time and then revert back to normal screen.
I found a lot of references to a similar problem in a few threads such as this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1456983?tstart=0
My screen has gone strange again now and isn't reverting back to normal so far even after I tried  restarting it. It was normal for 2 min only ans then back to bluish. I tried all the display fixes indicated in the threads but none of them work and I'm not exactly sure my issue is the same given I can still see the tint and horizontal lines in particular if the screen saver goes on, and the resolution on screenshots I've seen of other people having blue tint screen issues seems to be normal (as in text is legible).
Any ideas on how to fix it? Do you think it might be more of a software or hardware problem..? Would it help if I try upgrading my Mac OS?
Thank you very much for your time

Thanks a lot for the reply, I was worried would say that outright. Screen just only reverted back to normal after a couple of hours. As you said probably best to bring it in for diagnosis, I'll try to do that asap though of course I'm nowhere neaar any AASP at the moment.

  • How do i export multiple full resolution movie files at the same time in final cut pro 6?

I've been using Final Cut Pro since version 3 came out, know the program well, have even had jobs consisting of just operating the program.  I'm currently running version 6 because that's the latest one that works on my computer.  Back in verison 3, there used to be an option under Export to export a "Final Cut Pro" movie, which was really a Quicktime movie but appeared with a FCP icon and defaulted to opening in FCP, but the important thing about it is that it was a full resolution copy of the movie with no compression.  Now, that option seems to have been changed to "export Quicktime movie."  In my opinion that change is kind of stupid since it is so much less specific and is even less of an implication that one is exporting a full resolution file.  But in fact you are.
One also has the option of using Compressor to export a version of a movie, and therein there are so many different options that if you are not confused by it I think there's something wrong with you.  Moreover, it would appear that there is no equivalent of exporting a full resolution version of a file in Compressor.  Fair enough: a full-resolution file involves no compression so is not appropriate for "Compressor."  BUT, suppose you want to export multiple uncompressed, full-resolution movies at once.  When you use Compressor, you are able to create batch lists and export many things at the same time, for instance, lists that will take many hours to complete so you can go to bed and get the results the next day.  But as far as I can tell there is no way to do this at full resolution without compression.  Instead you have to sit at the computer waiting for each one to finish and after each one, manually go to the next and select "export Quicktime movie."  Even if there is a way to do this I would complain that such an obviously desireable thing is so unaccessable.  In fact, the only reason I've typed out my question at such length is because I'm stuck here waiting for each one of my movies to export.
Anyway, all my complaints aside, anyone know how to do this?

what you're missing to export multiple files is the batch export command available in the file menu or by control clicking on the items in the browser.  You can export multiple sequences/clips at full resolution with this.
This has been available in fcp for a long long time.
Wow, you are right.  Now that you mention it, I can't believe I never noticed that.  Thanks.
Only if you have the 'Self-Contained' box checked.  Otherwise you'll end up with a reference movie.
Correct.  That box is typically checked by default.  There are other default settings you could change that would not result in a full-quality version, but what I meant was hitting that option from the pull-down menu, then changing nothing and hitting ok.
