1080p looks blur and unsharp

I have a Samsung full-HD LCD together with my AppleTV on HDMI. When I switch to 1080p in AppleTV the picture looks much less sharp than with 1080i and 720p. When watching pictures synced from iPhoto, the quality even look better in 720p. When connecting my macbook to the TV at 1080p the pictures in iPhoto looks absolutely perfect and sharp.
Anyone else noticed this?

I have a Sony Bravia 1080p, but I choose the 720p option to output from Apple TV settings menu. The picture seems a little sharper, but not by much. A bit more definition, I'd say.
Not certain, but I think I'm correct in saying that the ATV outputs natively at 720p, but has to upscale to output at 1080i or 1080p. So if you have a better scaler in your HDTV than the one in the ATV, I'd set the ATV output at 720p and let your HDTV do the upscaling work. Mine looks amazing.
(Your Macbook, I assume, outputs natively at 1080p.)

Hi,
I just got my screen replaced today because it was smashed and now the text is blurry and not sharp at all. I actually get a headache when reading a long email. What can I do to fix it? Or does this mean that the screen was not replaced properly? Pls help!

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-j126tx Notebook and issues with the text blurry or grainy. Here is a link to Advanced display settings in Windows 7. In this document it will show you how to change the display to the recommended settings.
Adjust the display resolution under Windows 7: Image on screen has fuzzy text, is blurry or stretched and select the recommended settings.

Firefox looks blur and the display is incomprehensible.

This happened twice
Once i was manipulating my bookmarks, removing some old ones shifting some from one place to the other etc. I had to close the firefox window with a blind click on the top right corner and start all over again
Second when i opened the Saved password window. the vision cleared when i dragged the saved passwords window over the main firefox window. (perhaps an error of repainting) Note i use the Saved password Editor Addon. link : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/saved-password-editor/

UI photoshop cc looks blurred

I have a macbook pro 15" I have just downloaded photoshop, illustrator and indesign all cc. Illustrator and indesign looks fine, but photoshops' UI looks blurred as if it is not ready for my retina screen

You are missing required system fonts, or have some utility messing up font information -- and Photoshop is trying to use the font information it gets from the OS to resize the dialogs to fit the strings.

The new field blur and tilt shift filters have stopped working

The new field blur and and tilt shift filters worked a few times but are now greyed out in the menus. Any ideas why? Thanks.

Did you check the settings Chris mentioned? Your issue sounds like there might be a video card or driver issue, which can disable the GPU related features and give you a lesser version of the blur filters. See this link for some troubleshooting suggestions. See if issues with the video card have disabled - Edit>preferences>performance use graphics processor. Also check the advanced settings drawing modes. Be sure you have the current driver (system is updated and current on mac or go to the video manufacturer's website for pc) . That is often the cure.
You might want to copy your system information (photoshop help>system info) here for us to look at.

Refine edge and edge detection serious issues, getting blurred and lots of contamination

Hi guys :)
a few months back I bought a grey background after being reccomended as being easier to do compositing, I was really pleased but now I have run into some big issues and was wondering if you could spare a few moments to help me out. so I've taken the image of my model on the grey background, the model has white blonde hair, simillar to this image here, http://ophelias-overdose.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=192#/d393ia7.
Now what I have been doing is using the quick select tool, then refine edge, when I get to refine edge that's when the issues start for me, when I'm trying to pick up the stray hairs around the model to bring them back into the picture, I'm finding that the hair,when it does come back into the picture is quite washed out and faded, and almost like it has been re painted by Photoshop CS 5 instead of being brought back into the picture, when I paint over the areas with the edge detection tool. Also, even if I check the decontaminate colour box, it doesn't make a blind bit of difference!!
I'm on a bit of a deadline and am so alarmed I'm getting these issues with the grey background, how are these problems occurring?? can you please give me some idea, I would be really greatful. I have been you tubing, and going over tutorials and reading books to NO avail :(
I just keep getting this issue, even when I have tried editing a test picture from a google search of a model with brown hair! Still getting this issue.
this tool is supposed to be amazing, I'm not expecting amazing but I'm atleast expecting it to not look like a bad blurred paint job, with contamination.

Im working with high resolution photos in NEF, I am trying to put the model into a darker background but i havent even got that far as I cant even cut her out.
Decontaminate doesnt seem to be working at all to be honest, it makes little difference when i check that box.
Im getting nothing close to the image of the Lion, thats brilliant!

And this is what I keep getting results wise, see around the hair there is still rather a lot of grey contamination and the hair literlly looks painted and smudged.

Error Compiling when using RGB Color Corrector and Unsharp Mask

If I apply the RGB Color Corrector and and Unsharp mask to a clip within a sequence and try to render the sequence or a small portion of the work area I get the Error Compiling: Unknown error.
This is occurring within a project I have updated to Premiere CS6 from Premiere CS5.
I have tried creating a new sequence and importing the same clip and other clips. Anytime I try to use both the Unsharp Mask and RGB Color Corrector I am unable to render. I have tried this with Mercury Playback both in hardware and software modes with the same result.
Has anyone else seen something like this?

Okay, glad this occurs for others too and I am not experiencing something isolated. The issue here is this shouldn't be happening at all.
Premiere CS5 has no problem with this.
Yeah if I turn off one effect or the other no problem. Unfortunately it doesn't matter the order I place the effects in I get the same error regardless of which is placed first.
Nesting does work. If I create a sequence, apply one or the other to the clip in the sequence then embed the sequence in another sequence and apply the remaining filter to the sequence containing the clip then I can get my color correction and edge definition. But this is a work around.
There seems to a bug here since there were no issues when using RGB Color Corrector and Unsharp Mask simultaneously applied to one clip in CS5. I doubt there will be a fix for this anytime soon so it looks like I will have to use another method for color correcting or apply RGB color correction to clips already embedded in a sequence as I move forward into solely using CS6.
(How this can become an issue is that after applying effects and color correction to several clips within a sequence I like to render that entire sequence. Then this sequence is ebedded in another main sequence and I can add additional effects and transitions and overlays without killing the live playback speed and only have to render smaller amounts of content from additional tracks. It ends up saving a lot of time after the initial length of rendering.)

I have Elements 9. I am trying to use the gaussian blur and end up with a picture that looks like this.
What am I doing wrong? It's also happening when I use other filters.

That looks your video card may be causing that. Does this happen on every image?

Shots come back to FCP looking blurry (and shifted!)

Here's the deal:
DVCPRO HD 720p60 footage sent to COLOR (from FCP). Minor adjustments made (color grading in a basic mask shape, NOT using the geometry room). I am NOT reframing anything. I render using the original clip settings. I also tried 12 bit, 16 bit, and floating bits.
When shots come back to FCP, they look blurred. Something like a 1-2 pixel blur. Also, the shots are displaced by 1 or 2 pixels upwards, and to the left. The "shift", I can live with. The blur, I cannot.
I read a lot of messages on this board, but nothing helps so far.
Any tips???

1248x702 -- not a typo?
DVC Pro is an anamorphic format and the native aspect ratio is 4x3. Quicktime is fixing this because it recognizes the codec and can deal with the non-square intended/implied aspect ratio.
COLOR doesn't deal with this at all, and will send back whatever you submit as if it were square.
FCP is trying to fit the new square footage into the codec's "round hole". The blur and shift are obvious in your resolution settings ... 702 is going to shift the image 18 pixels. and 1248 should be 1280.
You get the real truth, and not some interpretation of it, when you navigate to the original media through COLOR's browser. You'll probably find another set of interesting numbers if you do that.
Even codecs that you thought were one thing are being masked sometimes by Quicktime and FCP. The AJA 10-bitRGB codec is a good example of mis-reporting under the various applications.
I expect you are getting either a red or green RTE line on the FCP sequence?

I use photoshop to resize the images and the resolution to 72dpi. I use fade filter. After I placed them into motion, export them, and imported into Final Cut Pro 5, render it, them view it on the monitor. It looks terrible blur and distroted. Why? How to fix this problem?

Ok lets break it down.

Ok, if you want to. But, you could just import them and size them as you want in the Motion composition.

Not sure what that means but I'm guessing you do this in Motion not PSD.

Whoa, export them. What are you settings and do they match you FCP sequence settings?

Well, if you have to render it your export settings in Motion must be wrong. Unless you mean you save the Motion project and then import the Motion Project file into FCP. Then you would need to render. You still need to make sure your setting match.

The short answer is we need more info. Look at the things I said and get us some more information.

Fonts look blurred in COLOR

Why do the fonts in COLOR look so bad? I can hardly read them! All other apps are ok. The fonts look blurred. Anyone got this?

If you're anything like me, you're using Color on a monitor smaller than what Apple recommends. In Color 1.0, the scale of the user interface was not flexible. On my 15" MBP, the interface was flying off the side of the screen, and I couldn't see all of the buttons. In Color 1.0.1, it scales the user interface if your monitor is too small. On my screen, this results in somewhat blurry text across the interface, but at least I can see all of it.

I am doing a quiz in captivate. For the question and answers
i used transparent captions. When i published movie the text looks
blurred. So i applied highlight colour for the text but it takes
only for the question. It does not get applied for the answer text.

pitch a long shot. Try clicking Edit > Preferences... (if you
have Captivate 3) and click the Project node. Once you do this,
place a check mark in the "Don't Anti-alias Captions". This is a
global setting and *may* influence the outcome.

Assuming you do not have access to the "original" video/project and the YouTube video is the only copy, there is a method. Try "YouTube Downloader" which is a free software that allows you to download clips from YouTube as .mp4 files. You can then edit with Premiere, and re-encode again for upload to YouTube. Just keep in mind that you are re-compressing the video so there will be some quality loss. The better the quality of the original, the better the copy will hold up.
