1080p output possible from iDVD?

I want to get hi-def output to burn travelogue DVDs of pictures and video clips. I have read that iDVD will only directly burn 720P output. On a large LCD screen, the results at 720 are obvious.
Toast with a HD plugin can burn HiDef (and BlueRay), but what kind of output from iDVD 7.2 to a video_TS content folder is possible?
Can't find any indication in the forum or iDVD preferences.  I would not burn the DVD using iDVD directly but using Toast. If iDVD only creates 720P output no matter what methid, no advantage to having the HD plugin.
Since my projects are mostly pictures, I don't think FCP would even be a consideration and I don't see it has the themes and structure that iDVD gives.

Hi
Your problem is not What program to use - But see that DVD is a standard in it self and this is SD-Video.
There are no HD-DVD (but just academic and to a few with rare Toshiba HD-DVD players)
So wether You use iDVD, DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ doesn't matter. They can only deliver SD-video to DVDs that are supposed to be played on Standard DVD-Players.
Roxio Toast™ can burn BD-code to a DVD - BUT this DVD can not be played on any Mac (except if they have Roxio Toast™ Player) - ONLY ON Blu-Ray Players - and are limited in time to 20-30 minutes max in BD-Quality.
But there are lot's of things to know - when DVD and Quaity are of importance.
DVD quality
1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1)
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
• Professional Quality (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST
• Best Performances (movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
• High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
About double on DL DVDs.
2. Video from
• FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
• iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
• iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application.
4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
iDVD quality also depends on.
• DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
_ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
• How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
• Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
• Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
• What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
• What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
• What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
• How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
1 = US
2 = EU

I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
• Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
• No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
• Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
• Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
• Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
• Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • 5.1 AC3 output possible from avi (Audigy S

    OS: XP Pro SP2
DirectX latestI have an Audigy SE with Logitech speakers (X-530) connected (analog).
I get 5. sound out from my system using WinDVD 7 demo playing an original DVD.
Trying to play my backed up DVD (AVI) with 5. sound will however not work. I tried to useac3filter (all possible settings with 5. output)? as well as the Intervideo audio codec(which I?believed was exactly the same as was used in WinDVD) in Media player classic as wellas Zoomplayer. The 5. sound will play as stereo in the speakers. My questions are:
. CMSS should not necessarily be be enabled in order to play 5. sound, correct?
    2. CMSS used on the file above would merely play an upmixed stereo sound, correct?
    3. Has anyone ever been able to use an Audigy card to play 5. sound (analog out) correctly with or without CMSS enabled?
    4. If you can say yes on question three what decoder, player and settings did you use?I have searched the forum but have not been able to find straight anwers to these questions.
Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Answer to question , 2 and 3?is yes.
    I use WMP and with the XVID . and AC3filter .0a RC5 (beta)?codec.
Under General (in ac3 filter) I have SPDIF (disabled) ticked that will output it to creatives decoder
And under?system tab in AC3 filter?i have Use AC3 Filter for AC3 only ticked and the option next to it SPDIF passthrough i have AC3 option?ticked as well. (The output speaker settings in general?are not needed as since the card will do all the work).
In Creatives Control Panel under decoder I have Use Built in Decoder to use the AC3 decoding on The Card which i find is better.
Just Looked at the Audigy SE and it seems like it does not have an AC3 decoder. So the following settings will be of no use to you.
http://www.free-codecs.com/download_soft.php?d=2&s=2?(AC3filter .0a RC5) download this and try it with WMP as well.
    Do the following as well
In WMP goto Tools > Options > DVD > Advance button that would bring up AC3 filter options starting with General.
Under Output select 3/2+SW 5. Channel
Then Goto?system tab?tick the AC3 box under the options Use AC3 filter for.
Then play the movie and see if it plays or not.

  • No 1080p output from ATV3

I have my ATV3 connected to my 1080p projector through a DVDO iScan VP-30 and the ATV3 will only output in 720P mode and doesn't even list 1080P in the choice of output resoluions. Does anyone have any ideas on this issue?
My projector is a Marantz VP-11S2 and supports 1080p

I have tried this and I get an "out of range" message from the projector.
All my video settings are set to Auto on all devices.
The troubleshooting for the projector suggests changing the output resolution V (Hz) and/or refresh rate of the device.
I occasionally get a flash of the ATV3 home screen but then it goes away again.
The 1080p output from all my other players work fine when connected directly.

  • Can't get 1080p output to TV in windows 7 under bootcamp

I have no problems using my 40in Samsung LN610 1080p TV as extension of my Snow Leopard desktop (though it was rather tricky to get it running). However, I can NOT get 1080p output in windows 7 under bootcamp.
In detail, when I use TV as an extension of the desktop, TV shows no HDMI signal coming in if I try to use 1080p or 1080i output (using NVIDIA panel or standard win7 properties panel). However, when I drop the output to 720p then the signal gets through and TV displays 720p just fine.
I hope I explained it clearly engough. Please let me know if you are having the same trouble or if you know of a solution. I'm using the latest bootcamp drivers.
    I have Macbook Pro 13in 2.53GHz, 9400m, 4GIG RAM, mid 2009 unibody model.

This problem is not a problem with Windows or Apple. It has to do with when the updates are applied to Windows boot camp. The way to fix this is as follows. First click on the bluetooth icon from the Windows start page. Then click show bluetooth items. From this window click add a new device. When the device appears double click on the icon for the device. A window should appear that at the top says general and other. Click on the other tab and another window comes up with a small box in it. Check the box and Windows will search and install the exact, correct drivers for the device. Now the device will pair and work fine.

  • Pass output parameter from mapping to external process in a Process Flow

In Process flow, how do we pass an Output parameter from a mapping (generated by a post mapping operator) into an external process (shell script)?
I have a mapping that generates an output parameter and I would like to pass this parameter to an external process (a shell script) with a process flow. Is this possible?

    Hi Norman,
Unfortunately in the current release, you cannot do this. What you can do, is store the value into a table and read it in the external process, or write it into a file and read it from there. The next release will support passing output parameters from one activity to the next.
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Importing Themes from iDVD or iMoveHD

I have been having trouble importing Themes into Final Cut Express and I am going to assume that I am missing something in order to do this. Can anyone give me assistance on how to do this or if it is even possible?
    Thanks

You can't import themes from iDVD or iMovie. You make be able to build a video with a theme in iMovie and export to to use in iMovie.

  • Considering the jump from iDVD to Studio pro, business critical. new user

Hi all, I will make this as short and concise as possible. I create DVD's for marketing leave behinds for restaurants, properties, etc. I have a wide range of consumers using a variety of different computers and DVD players playing the disks... and these are my most often complaints and problems I need to resolve, it is business critical, as my companies name and reputation are on the product. Thank you in advance for any help and suggestions.
    1. Can I easily bring in movies that I saved and rendered under the "Share" function to the media browser in imovie into DVD Studio pro, without recoding etc, just like I bring the movies into iDVD?
    2. MANY times the disks are recoginzed in a PC or a Mac as Video TS and Audio TS files and not as a movie(not autolaunching the DVD PlayeR)... I burn directly from iDVD, and have also tried saving as a Video TS, and burning in Toast under the Create Video DVD (I think its called UDF or something). Will DVD studio pro be more effective at the computer and more recent DVD players just playing the movie, instead of sometimes thinking it is a Data DVD. It is very frustrating, especially that even the mac gets confused and either recognizes it as DATA, or starts playing the movie in the middle.
    3. Autoletterboxing is very important to me, as I want the movies to play on full screen TVS with the bars on top and bottom, or on Widescreen TV's with little bars or no bars at all. My biggest problem is with iDVD even in widescreen setting, if the end user at home never set up their DVD player that it is hooked up to a widescreen, it automatically goes into Pan and Scan mode, which really confuses my client. Or vice versa I have used "My DVD Edit" to do auto letterbox, and it causes an opposite effect sometimes stretching and distorting the image on widescreens.
Any tips etc to make my discs perform as close to a traditional movie you would rent at your local video store (and the most compatible settings) would be greatly appreciated. I thank you all, and understand this is a lot to ask of someone for this much help.
I use Verbatim DVD-R's, and have tried varying my burn speed as well. I have my entire business riding on this, and my movies are very simple to produce, but they don't do anyone any good if they don't play.
    Thank you!

You're either exaggerating or you're completely off your nut. Your business is based on price, service, and the quality of your products. The promotional piece you leave behind is nothing but a shiny piece of plastic. As Shawn has pointed out, there are only so many things you can expect to learn how to control when producing DVDs and one thing that is totally out of your reach is what your prospects do with your disks.
You will want a good inkjet printer and a huge bulk supply of printable disks. A mutiple disk burner pays for itself within a few days if you are making five to ten copies of any single title.
Before you jump, buy and read carefully the two or three books that are all about DVDSP4. If you know someone who has the FCP Studio suite, buy them dinner and a bottle of wine and ask them to show you how DVDSP4 works. The suite comes with a complete tutorial resource disk for DVDSP4.

  • Exporting Stills to iPhoto from iDVD

Is it possible to export stills from iDVD? I have an antique home movie on DVD and can't find any way to export stills from it to iPhoto. There are no copyright problems and I only have the DVD.

use Grap (in the Utilities folder) go get a large screen shot of the picture
Will Grab capture DVD images? I originally started using SnapzPro because "standard" screen capture methods wouldn't capture DVD images.
    640 x 480 x 72dpi images
640x480 pixels are all there are in the video image. With Photoshop the pixel size can be bumped up a little. A bigger problem will probably be due to interlacing artifacts.

  • Beginner's guide to outputting data from Labview to MySQL

    Hi
I am a student who has only recently started using Labview for a data logging project, so my knowledge of how to use it is rather lacking. My current aim is to be able to output the logged data directly into a MySQL server, so that the data can then be remotely accessed over the internet and processed using PHP scripts.
I have basic knowledge of MySQL, as I have previously used it to create dynamic web pages, but my knowledge of how it works is also somewhat lacking. The MySQL database I would be connecting to is remotely held on a university server that I will connect to.
I have seen that such connection is possible from previous posts, but I would really appreciate a more basic account of the steps that I would need to follow to make such a connection possible.
    Thanks,
    Rob
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

One thing to bare in mind is that you do not HAVE to create a DSN connection in the 'Data Sources (ODBC)' section of the Administrative Tools.
You can actually just wire the appropriate connection string to the 'DB Connect' VI. I do this my self because it allows me to easily install applications without having to manually create a DSN in windows . It also means that if I load the connection string from a file, I can easily change the database to read by just editing the INI file..
My connection script is as follows (tested with LabSQL - and the NI connectivity toolkit) ......
    DRIVER=MySQL ODBC 3.51 Driver; DB=<Schema Name>; server=<pc name or IP Address>; UID=<username>; PWD=<password>; OPTION=785

  • Removing apple logo from IDVD Menus?

Is there any way to do this? I want to make a nice presentation of my movie and I don't wont no ******* Apple Logo on top of my graphic desing? How can I get rid of it? Is there any way you can create a simple menu from scratch with no templates?
Second: The movies I burn on IDVD only play in one out of three DVD players I try. I'm plannning on making lots of copies of my movie proyect to show it around but I won't do it unless I know all the peopla are gonna be able to watch them. Any sugestions? If I make a master copy on IDVD and then I go to a duplication center to make the copies, will I have the same problem with all the copies and they'll just play on "some" DVD players?
    Thanks

You can remove the watermark by going to the preferences menu and unticking the watermark box......as to the question of playback use single layer -R disks where possible and also try different brands to see what works best. I am about to find out the replication answer myself soon so will let the forum know how I get on!!
PS I wish DVD studio Pro read from iDVD!!

  • Can I save a project from idvd as a .mov?or anything other than an idvdproj

Can I save a project from idvd as a .mov?or anything other than an idvdproject?

It's possible, but a fair amount of work to start from iDVD. Far easier is to export your project from iMovie (Share/Export) to the format desired by the web site (mp4, Flash, ??).
In either case, it will not be an interactive experience (in other words, you can have a video showing your video being selected, but the web user won't be clicking the menu button).
If you want a short intro (pictures and song), why not add that to the beginning of your iMovie project, so it all looks seamless?

    Hello everyone.
I've connected a Sony 55A2000 display (1080p supported) to my MBP (MiniDP → DVI → HDMI), but i can't set the 1080p resolution, only the interlaced one. Only "P" allowed is 720 %(

    Hi patriciaanne3
You might like to look at this press release from Nokia a couple of days ago: http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1140680
In version 12.0.013 you have an added feature in the menu with Network connection, internal GPS and external GPS, there is a fourth category A-GPS = Assisted GPS.
This enables N95 with internal GPS to establish position indoors, which is not currently the situation in earlier software versions.
"Assisted GPS, or A-GPS, is a technology that uses an assistance server to cut down the time needed to determine a location using GPS" You are using the power of a mainframe computer to cut down the number crunching needed to process position of four satellites needed for three dimensional position for first fix (TTFF= Time to First Fix) As mentioned in Nokia press release there is also scope for network provider to use mast location as adjunct to speed this process.
If you are near a WLAN of course this can provide network connection for assistance server or you can use GPRS as appropriate.
Happy to have helped forum in a small way with a Support Ratio = 37.0

  • After burning from iDVD...

After completing my final project in iDVD and burning to DVD looks bad on a HDTV flat screen. I use a Sony AVCD SR-11 HD camcorder.

    Hi
There are no HD version of iDVD till yet.
SD version is equal to old TV standard and that is max from iDVD
    To get HD You need
    • Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl Blue-Ray component
    • Blue-Ray burner and disks (DVD can be used for small projects about 20 minutes)
    • Blue-Ray Player eg PlayStation 3 (even for the DVD made after BR-standard)
There are factors that might reduse the quality from iDVD below SD standard.

  • Output file from ELM and from Campaign automation

    Hi Experts,
Can some one let me know how to get an output file from ELM, and from campaign automation?
    Thanks
    Leela

    Hello Uday,
i suppose if you run the program within a process chain it will be started
in a background process. All downloads via the SAPGUI onto your local
PC (or network drive) are not possible in the background because there is no
connection to your PC during the excecution of the report in the background.
Try to save the download on an accessible file system on the application server
and download it from there afterwards.
Which function module is used to download the data (GUI_DOWNLOAD or the older version WS_DOWNLOAD) in your report?
To save data on the application server use the ABAP statements
OPEN DATASET filename FOR OUTPUT    -> for creation of file
TRANSFER record TO filename                  -> for transfer of one record
CLOSE DATASET filename                        -> for closing the file

what do you have? Version of iPhoto? Of the OS? How is the passport connected to your Mac? What format is the passport (for the iphoto library it must be Mac OS extended (journaled)  )?  The iPhoto library is not and can not be on the cloud (maybe later with the Photos Application)
