1080p through 27" Display

HI all, just want to say ive just come over from a pc background after years, and recently just ordered an imac 27"" core i7 with 8gig ram. Ive done alot of research into this but need your expertise.
i want to watch blu ray through my mac 27 display and am aware i could do this in 2ways either through bootcamp/fusion 3 for windows or through the appogee dvi to mini display port converter, however if i use the converter i can only get 720p and im wanting to get full HD 1080p, will the monitor support a resolution as ive read it only natively runs 1280x720 is there any way to run 1080p. my pc has a built in bluray optical drive so if i run through my pc direct onto the display would it run in 1080p
thanks

Standard (single-link) DVI tops out at 1920x1200. The 27-inch display is in the dual-link DVI range at 2560x1440. It appears that the best resolution you can achieve on it (in target display mode) that is below 1920x1200 is 720p (1280x720), which is exactly half the native resolution.
Can you link to the Apogee product? I can't seem to find it, and I recall the product description saying that this (what you describe) would be a limitation of using it with the 27-inch display.
It works with your PC because your PC is doing the work of converting to show 1080p at full screen. If you download a 1080p video file on the iMac (such as from Apple's QuickTime movie trailers web site), it will display at 27-inch full screen mode too, because the iMac is doing the conversion work. However, when you use the 27-inch display in target display mode, you are taking the computer out of the picture, so you are more limited in what it is able to show full screen. The adapter cannot provide 2560x1440 output, so it drops down to 1280x720.

  • Does my MacBook passes audio through Mini Display Port or not?

I recently bought a Mini DisplayPort > HDMI adapter in order to display my MacBook on my TV. Other users of the same adapter publicly stated that they got video AND audio out, but I got only video.
I've been searching this online for two days now and I still don't know why (I even searched this support forum, but I must admit that I got a little lost and decided to write my own topic). All I discovered was that some MacBooks have this capacity (to port audio along with video through Mini DisplayPort) and others don't.
I'm using a white MacBook unibody bought new and latest on late 2009. It's the first model with multitouch trackpad and without FireWire port. Its model name is "MacBook 6,1", I guess.
Does anybody know for sure if It CAN, in fact deliver audio+video through the Mini DisplayPort if I'm using a compatible HDMI adapter?
    Thanks.

These models pass audio through the display port:
iMac (Late 2009), MacBook Pro (Mid 2010), MacBook (Mid 2010), and Mac mini (Mid 2010) supply multichannel audio (up to 8 channels) and video signals over Mini DisplayPort. To connect your television or other HDMI devices to your Mac, use select third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters that conform to the VESA v1.1a DisplayPort Interoperability Guidelines. The following adapters adhere to these standards:
    - Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support
    - Griffin Video Display Converter (Mini DisplayPort to HDMI and DVI)

  • X220: Coloured pixels starting to shine through IPS display

    Hello,
I have and actively use my X220 for roughly two and a half years now and am so far happy with it.
However, lately I noticed coloured pixels, or rather what looks like sub-pixels shining through the "display" when I set e.g. a black background or at boot time.
It goes from the left to the right but only at the top of the screen. I have the x220 with the IPS display.
I attached two pictures of the most intense spot, roughly a tad to the right from the top-center of the display). Unfortunately, my camera does not quiet focus that close, I#ll try to get a better shot of it soon.
As you can see, those aren't dead pixels per-se, as their size waries. Looks like the screen is "used" and the "paint" starts to come of. Not sure how I could describe that, really.

During my time of ownership I have always been careful of my machine, so there was no rough handling. I use it everyday as my primary machine though, but most of the time with 1 or 2 external monitors.
Does anyboy else have this problem? Is it solvable? Could I stop the process somehow?
    Thanks a lot!

It seems as you have the first revision of the IPS panel that is known to have issues, especially the excessive image retention (persistence) issue. Assuming you have 3 years warranty I would ask for replacement.
On the other hand I have one of last X220 (having the second revision of the display) boxes and noticed the issue as well. Fortunately it is one red subpixel only yet.
Is there any improvement when you keep the display turned off for at least 48 hours ?

  • How to get sour to play through mini display via vga without sound cables?

I know that many of you guys might tell me that this question is stupid or that it is impossible to do it but i run in to problems that usually the company that made the product can't asnwer it all the time. So here it is. I have the mid 2009 MBP 17 in. 2.8ghz Core 2 duo. I've been using a minidisplay to VGA cable to connect to a sony briva tv since i've had it. and most time i'd have to plug in the 3.5mm jack to get the audio working. but once just once my mac decided to give all the audio control over to the TV without the auxilary cable plugged in. See, i accidentally pressed play and i started to hear sounds. but it wasnt from my mac. and the volume was completely up to the control of the tv. it was weird yet convinent, but as i was checking the connection to see what the **** i did, i took it out of clam mode which swithch my resolution and reconnect the display with the sound having to go through the auxilary again. So if any of you have had this luck and know how to do it please help me out.

  • Question about using HD LCD TV 1080p as external display

When i connect my MacBook to my new Samsung LCD HD TV, it set the screen resolution correctly to 1080p. The picture seems very nice, but when I move some text to the big screen the text is not so clear.
Why not? Am I doing something wrong or can I do something to make the picture (text) nicer?

Screen resolution, in general, is a hard thing to explain to individuals who don't work in graphics manipulation, and for good reason. It seems backwards at times. How is it that a 36" 1080p TV can appear blurrier than a 24" 720p TV? Why is 720p better than 1080i?
As far as using a 1080p display with my computer, I've settled on a 24" Samsung 1080p monitor/tv. I find it's a good balance between pricing, ppi, readability and other factors that one might consider important when looking at external display options.
Frankly, modern computer OS GUIs are not designed to be used on a display that is upwards of 8 or 12 feet away from you, no matter how big it is, or how high its resolution is. They take advantage of high resolution displays so that sitting close to a screen is less taxing on your sight over time. There are alternatives, obviously, like Media Center and Apple's media software, which are designed for using a computer on a television.

  • Displaying XBox through eMac display

Is there any way to display an XBox through my eMac display?

Sorry, but no: the eMac's miniVGA port is output-only (to support mirroring to an external display using the miniVGA adapter).

  • Connecting MacBook through external display in Windows Boot Camp partition

Hello everyone! I recently installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my MacBook 320GB. My Mac Partition of the drive works perfect, and connects through Mini DVI-Video through composite cables and into my T.V. When I tried this in Windows, I had no luck whatsoever. yes, all the drivers are installed for my chipset, processor, keyboard, etc. Windows is updated as well through Microsoft, But not through the Apple Software Update because the download failed again to the Boot Camp update. How do I connect an external display(ex. Projector, T.V., anything that has composite input)? Yes, I know some of you will say, "Your first mistake was buying Vista", but thats not the problem here. Windows Vista works perfectly. When you connect an external display, it re-adjusts its screen resolution but does not appear on the external monitor. Is the Boot Camp Update the solution? Please Help!!!
That was a lot of writing!

I am using Vista on Macbook and when I connect my PC to my TV, lot of times, it hangs on me and a blue screen shows up with some errors and then it shut downs. I atleast do this 2-3 times and then finally it gets connected but there has to be a way where we can easily connect to TV without any issues. Any help guys?
Also I have noticed, my resolution on TV when I connect my macbook is 1900 x 1260 something... Is this related to resolutions?

  • External Apple logo shows through to display

I just returned to my iBook after 5 minutes (the time I have set to have the display turn off) to find that there is the vague outline of the Apple logo (the illuminated one on the outside over of the iBook) showing through to the display. It is a fuzzy white rendering of the logo in the middle of the otherwise black screen. I was wondering if this is a problem? Or if it's normal and no big deal. The reason I'm concerned is because this has just happened for the first time. Thanks in advance.

    Daniel,
It's normal. The Apple logo is just a clear panel in the cover which is illuminated by the screen backlight. If you have a light somewhere behind your iBook, it will shine through when the screen sleeps.

  • Audio through External Display's Speakers. MD port to HDMI

    Hi all
I have been trying to figure out how to do a simple thing like play audio through my new Samsung 27" monitor to use with my 15" MacBook Pro (late 2008 unibody model).
The monitor is a Samsung S27B750V. It is connected with a Mini Display Port to HDMI cable, which supports Audio.
I cannot seem to find a way to play the audio through my monitor's speakers.
My monitor will not appear in the Device output list on the Sound settings box.
Also, I have tried using the included seperate audio cable connecting the headphone socket to the monitor's audio input, but still no sound.
ANY suggestions will be most welcome!
    Many Thanks

I see thanks- I never thought the mini Display port would have been different on my model.
I am still trying to use the audio cable provided with the display, through the MacBook headphone socket into the monitor's audio input, and that also is not seeming to work?
Should my device appear in the audio Device output list on the Sound settings box?

No.  The display works only with a computer with a Thunderbolt port.

  • Audio output through mini display port

2009 model macbook air 2,1. Is there an update or video card that will allow audio output using Moshi HDMI adapter?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
Only the most recent late 2010 MacBook Airs support audio over Mini Display Port.
For an older machine, you'll need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-DisplayPort-HDMI-Adapter-Audio/dp/B0033SM2BQ/ref=sr_1 _14?ie=UTF8&qid=1306806721&sr=8-14 or this: http://www.amazon.com/Displayport-Toslink-Female-Converting-Adapter/dp/B003BS2PF G/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_5

  • Is there a way to give permission to access iPhone 5C when you can't through the display?  Display is not showing but iPhone 5C is recognized in iTunes through USB.

So display on phone does not show anymore; however, when I plug it into the USB the phone is recognized by iTunes and triggers the permission pop up to access.  The only problem is I can't click "Trust" on the iPhone because I don't have a screen that shows it.  I can even reset the phone by holding the power and home button.  So basically it's give permission with no screen.  I have a replacement phone on the way but unfortunately the back up for this phone was deleted during a PC refresh so no backup and that's why I need access to it.  Any suggestions would be very helpful.

There is no way to interact with the phone if the screen is not working.
Did you happen to have iCloud backup enabled? If so, you'll be able to restore from an iCloud backup and get at least some of your data back.

  • Slow Wi-Fi on Macbook Pro running through Thunderbolt display

    Hi there,
Im having issues with a new thunderbolt display. When my macbook is connected to the thunderbolt display im getting download speeds of 6.83. But when using the macbook on its own, not connected to the display, in the same room im getting download speeds of 19.24 according to speedtest.net
I have the virgin media super hub which is located downstairs. The macbook and display are upstairs.
I can't understand why theres such a difference in speeds just because im connected to the display. Can anyone help??
    Nick.

I'm having the same issue. I can unplug the thunderbolt cable from the laptop and get speeds at least 10x faster (without moving the laptop at all). But when it's plugged into the display, it's slow (at times it is semi-usable but it drops in and out, which isn't usable).
I have tried disabling the display ethernet, setting the display ethernet below wi-fi in service order, and switching wireless networks (I have 2.4 and 5GHz setup, on separate devices). I have another laptop that performs just fine as well (each laptop uses a separate wifi network).
I saw something state that 10.8.1 beta testers were asked to test audio and wifi while connected to a thunderbolt display. Too bad I'm also on 10.8.2 and it appears broken still (again?).
I'd love to hear solutions because I can't currently run a cable to the display (in the future I will but that's the next project).

  • 1080p 50 Hz display settings not appearing

    I have 1080i and 720p 50 Hz but not 1080p why???

I'm able to confirm that the only option at 1080p is "1080p HD" on all my tv's, although the tv doesn't actually say what frequency it is using, the tv's themselves denote 60 Hz.
I don't really know why this is, but have always assumed the tv manufacturers have catered for mainstream devices only such as blu-ray players etc which I'm not aware are available with 50 Hz output.
It's more than likely that you aren't actually missing all that much and it isn't something that has concerned me all that much.

  • I have no sound with through my display

    Hi,
I would love to know if anybody has the same issue as me.
I have a mid 2012 MB Air and the thunderbolt Display with all the updates and latest OSX but I still have problems.
When the display is connected the image is working fine but none of the "thunderbolt" hub functions work.
I dont have the option to choose display audio in the preferences menu and the USB devices that are conected charge but do not show in my OS.
It feels strange to have the latest hardware but basic functions failing.

I've the Thunderbolt Display and a late 2011 MBP and am having no problems. I've two USB devices connected to the 'hub', four external FireWire 800 drives, etc.
You need to call AppleCare - there are a handful of people who have mentioned problems with the MBA and the Thunderbolt Display here. Try a search and see if anyone has come up with a solution. You may have to lug your Display and MBA to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them look at it.
Good luck - sorry that you're having problems: my display and MBP get along just fine...
