1080p video looks grainy

Hello guys, so i have a problem with my iMac, i have some 1080p videos and they look amazing when i watch them on my 42'' HDTV but when i watch them on my iMac they look very grainy and i dont understand why, i tried Quicktime and Vlc and it's the same, the video plays fine but quality looks poor.
What can i do to fix this?

http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/sony-action-cam-wi/4505-6500_7-354267 16.html
The above Cnet review says it really doesn't play nice with large screens because of its 16Mbps recording rate.
Maybe that is the problem.

  • Why do videos and photos look grainy in my iPad

If I take photo or video on my iPad 3 the video looks grainy and horrible. How can I fix this?

As iCrizzo said, more light will substantially improve the photos and videos.  Keep in mind the cameras in the iPad are very small.  they do not have high resolution or a lot of light-gathering capability.  The more light you can provide, for example doing facetime in a well lit room, will be helpful.

  • ALL flash videos looks pixelated, win 7 or 8.1, ONLY with firefox

Latest firefox version, latest adobe flash player.. Had cleaned cache and preferences of both Firefox and Flash Player.. two different machines with different hardwares and SOs, no luck!
With Google Chrome all videos are ok. It's like the difference in this two images: http://www.extremetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/computer-chip-super-resolution-640x353.jpg
Firefox's WEB images are GREAT but all videos looks pixelated as the left picture.. had compared the same video with Firefox and Chrome opened side-by-side.. :\

Hardware acceleration ON of OFF didn't make any difference.. honestly I never saw anyone saying they see any difference switching it..
Of course with a higher resolution (720 or 1080p) there's less pixelation, but with other browsers there ain't such issue..

  • 1080p Video Support

I currently have a Microsoft LifeCam Cinema, which supposedly supports 720p video calling.  I have fast Internet (100 Mbps upload and 100 Mbps download) and a fast computer (used for gaming), and when I use Skype it says my video quality is only medium.  The call technical information says the video is 1280x720.  Does Skype for Windows desktop (not the modern app) support 1080p video, and which webcams support that?  It looks like a lot of 1080p webcams only support 720p video calling.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As far as I know Microsoft LifeCam Cinema does not support 1080p, but Logitech c920 does. I have the c920 webcam and have no problems with sending video in 1080p.
You can disregard the call quality info about "medium quality". It's erroneous. I'm seeing the "medium quality" all the time even when video is sending in perfect 1080p resolution. I don't know when Skype intends to fix this annoying bug.

  • Can the ipad2 export 1080p video?

I know that iMovie allows this and so does vericorder 1st video, but I haven't seen this capability in any other app. The guy who makes Videograde had this to say:
Unfortunately, the iPad 2 is does not allow for the 1080p video processing. The device is capable of it, but iOS restricts that option. I even got confirmation from Apple that the only current device supporting that feature is the iPhone 4S.
"VideoGrade is coded in a way where it asks for the device capabilities on start up. That means that, if Apple changes that in a future iOS release, the App will support 1080p out of the box, without needing to release a new update.
I'm sorry I don't have better news. I understand how important that feature is and know that the iPad 2 has the necessary horsepower to process videos at that resolution, so you can be sure that I'm always looking for alternate ways to include this feature."
I'm, not sure what to think - the latest avid app only allows 720p export on the iPad 2. Surely they would have provided 1080p if it was allowed. Then why does apply only allow it in iMovie????? So confusing!!!!!!
    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks Michael
The iPad 3 (aka 'new iPad') specs are crystal clear when it comes to video out: AirPlay video streaming to Apple TV (3rd generation) at up to 1080p and Apple TV (2nd generation) at up to 720p
The iPad 2 specs are vague: Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 1080p with Apple Digital AV Adapter or Apple VGA Adapter (cables sold separately).
    No mention of Apple TV.
Does anybody know for certain whether the iPad2 will support 1080p video streaming to Apple TV (3rd generation) ?

  • Red lines/glitched 1080p video streaming XBMC in Mavericks

    Hello,
This is so weird because I don't think this was happening the first weekend after installing Mavericks, but in the last few days, my XBMC is playing 1080p videos I'm streaming all messed up.  There are odd red lines and glitches in the video that do not go away.  720P seems to work fine, and even some 1080p works but I'd say 75%+ of all 1080p videos are doing this now.  I'm wondering if it has happened since me messing with Airplay as a 2nd display (not mirrored) to my Apple TV3 or the HDMI video output I've connected/disconnected several times.  Rebooting, reinstalling XBMC, you name it, nothing now is seeming to get rid of these playback issues.  Has anyone else ran into this? Hoping there is some sort of workaround as it is driving me nuts!
    Thanks.

Same problem here. Same results in full screen and windowed. Noticing that overlays are fine, looks like a video decoding issue.

  • Sony DCR-SR85 looks grainy in premiere elements 7

I have been using a Sony DCR-SR85 video camera with a 60 gb hard drive. I noticed latey that when I'm recording my wife's horse in the arena the video looks a little grainy when I down load it into Premier Elements 7. I say grainy but that may not be the right word. The corrals have horizontal pipes and the pixels with the pipes almost make a wave in the background. The horse looks fine in the video, I'm shooting in standard mode but thinking of going to high quality mode to see if this helps. I render work area in the timeline after I download the video to Pre 7. It still looks a little wierd whenever you get around anything with close multiple horizontal lines. (like a corral)
    Gib

Your camcorder is what's called a "hybrid" and can shoot in a variety of standard definition modes and quality levels. It's hard to advise you without knowing some specifics.
What mode are you shooting in? If you're going to edit your video in Premiere Elements, you will need to shoot in HQ mode.
When you set up your Premiere Elements project, which project settings did you use? You must use the Hard Disk/Flash Memory Camcorder/Standard Definition project preset for this type of camcorder.
How did you get the video from your camcorder to your computer? In version 7, you should be attaching the camcorder to your comptuer via USB and then using Premiere Elements Media Downloader (under the Organize tab, go to Get Media/From AVCHD or Other Hard Disk Camcorder) to import the video into your project.
Although, by nature, your computer will emphasize your camcorder's interlacing (which appear as horizontal lines) and these will not be issues when you play your video on your TV, there are certainly video issues that are unavoidable. As all videographers know, you should never shoot video of a person wearing a pin-striped shirt or a person standing in front of venetian blinds. Narrow lines produce a distortion called a moire -- and, if this is what you're seeing, there's not a lot that can be done about that except avoid shooting it, unfortunately.

  • Why does my Gopro black 3+ video look so bad on PRE11 while editing & after DVD creation playback.

Well let start with.  When I do a project with video from my Samsung S4 phone or my IPhone 5 or my Canon T4i  looks great on computer screen and when I play back a burned DVD or AVHCD.  I just directly import from file on my hard drive.  My Samsung is at 1920x1040 30fps mp4 .  I believe the IPhone is a 1920x1080 MOV format.
It is the GoPro video that  PRE11 has a problem with.  I record at 1920x1080 30fps.  Nothing special.
First the computer screen.  On both of my computers when I right click on the playback screen.
Quality Highest; Magnification Fit; Safe Margin unchecked; Playback External device None; Aspect Hardware; Desktop Audio; 24Progresive Conversion Interlaced 2332; Export External Device DV 29.97 720; Checked Disable video output.
As for Publish.  DVD I use preset NTSC widescreen dvd; AVCHD h264 1920x1080I ntsc.
Any other ideas why the GoPro video looks bad on computer screen & on dvd on hd tv.
Some say you first must convert GoPro mp4 to AVI then import.  That seems crazy.  Why can Samsung mp4 work great and GoPro mp4 not.
It seems that Adobe has not correctly written code for MP4 from on of the largest camcorder producers.

Thank you for starting your own new thread on your Premiere Elements workflow after initially posting in the thread of another.

For your convenience, this is a copy of my reply to you in that thread which was left unanswered
    johng1234321
Thank you for the reply. What I was looking for mostly are the properties of the 1920 x 1080p30 GoPro3+ Black footage that you are trying to use in
Premiere Elements 11. Are you working with the H.264.mp4 format or are you working with a Cineform.avi format? If it is the H.264.mp4 format, I am not seeing why you should be doing anything else but importing the H.264.mp4 into Premiere Elements 11 using the project preset set by you manually or the project automatically. Best you set the project preset manually to assure the correct project preset in this case.

There are times when the project does not interpret correctly the properties of the video when it is the first file dragged to the Timeline. When it does not do it correctly, it does not give you the closest possible fit between project preset and properties of source media, instead it gives you its default 1080i which is not appropriate for your 1080p footage.

To get a better perspective on your comparison between your cell phone and GoPro results....are you saying that you can take the videos from the cell phones and import them into Premiere Elements 11 without issue, audio out of sync or other? Are you converting the cell phone video at any time - to change a variable to constant frame size or other?
Depending on your details, I would offer to look at a sample of your specific H.264.mp4 file for which you cannot get a decent DVD-VIDEO on DVD or AVCHD format on DVD disc. If you opt to do this, you might consider sending the sample via a Dropbox link posted in this thread. I am concerned that your GoPro issue on Premiere Elements 11 is going to get lost in this thread on a different topic. If we do not gain ground on the issue soon, please consider starting a new thread on your issue so that the details and especially the results will be found more easily by those users seeking answers for the type of problem that you describe.
The answers will be in the details.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • Pictures look grainy in PE 11

Complete newbie here, so please bear with me.
I've compiled a short 'movie' of pictures and video clips with Premier Elements 11, but the pictures look grainy!  They are fine when I open them with any other program, but they look just aweful in my slide show.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or why this is happening?  I was really hoping to have this done as a gift for Christmas, so time is running out on me.

Thanks, but that doesn't appear to be the problem.
I hit the render button.  Still no difference.
I burned it to disk and put it in my dvd player and sadly, it looks even worse!
If I can't solve this in the next couple hours, I guess I'll have to either play it on the TV with great sound/aweful pictures, or run it on the computer with slightly better pics but crappy sound.     Makes a lousy Christmas gift for all the hours of work I've put into it!

  • Best format to record 1080p video using c910

Which format/software offers the best disk usage to record 1080p video from the Logitech =910 HD webcam? I tried using QuickTime but it doesn't do the wide screen 10
Which format/software offers the best disk usage to record 1080p video from the Logitech 910 HD webcam? I tried using QuickTime but it doesn't do the wide screen 1080p that spans the width of YouTube videos. So right now I'm stuck using the Logitech webcam software which absolutely (pardon my French) *****. It records in wmv format (which looks like the only format it'll allow) and file sizes are huge, on the order of 2gb for 10minutes. Does that sound right?
What other options are out there that'll not gobble up my HDD space like termites that's compatible with the c910?
As a last resort, I was thinking of shelling out and replacing the c910 with the c920 because I hear that'll allow me to do 1080p in QuickTime. But how much of an improvement will that be over the wmv format?

    never done that..
but I assume, best practice would be to let him upload his originals .ts files from his HDDcorder - they are small, allready massivly compressed..and any interim encoding wouldn't add any quality to that....
after doing so, it is you/your brave Mac which has to do the conversion into something useful for iM.. so, it is a single-conversion, no two-step (=lossy) process..
if he has installed Quicktime for Windows on his machine, a h264 compression should do the job too = to send only the edited parts..
divx and esp wmv is of no use on your side..
and no, 'avi' is no format, just a media container.. which could contain codecs, iM can handle, but couldn't either..

  • Flash Version of DVD/Blu Ray looks grainy

So I have found a way to export my Blu Ray files to play off of a flash file. My question is this. When I am watching the file the menus and such look crisp and clear but once I go into a video asset within the Flash version to watch it, the video looks like it is scaled down and looks grainy and awful. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? The file for the whole flash version seems to be hovering always at ~3.5 GB no matter what I set the project settings to. Does anyone have any ideas?

What export preset did you use? And yes, the max resolution appears to be 1280x720.

  • Flash using one core with Youtube 1080p videos.

When I play a video on Youtube in 720p the activity monitor shows that the flash plugin uses about 150% of my cpu on a dual core mac mini. Now if I try to play the same video in 1080p the activity monitor shows that the flash plugin always stays at 99% and of course the video looks very choppy. This happens with both Safari and Firefox and with every single 1080p movie I have tried so far. I tried reinstalling flash but that didn't work. Any ideas?

    HI,
You need to UNinstall the current Flash Player plugin BEFORE reinstalling a new copy.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure *Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

  • MP4 looks grainy

The file on this page was a Quicktime Movie converted to an MP4.

Can anyone help me understand why the MP4 that is there now looks "grainy"?
    Thanks!

Can anyone help me understand why the MP4 that is there now looks "grainy"?
Frankly, the file doesn't look all that bad for the setting you used.
    1) You Devoted less than 64 kbps to the video track but twice that (128 kbps) to your audio track. Suggest at the minimum you reverse this and use a minimum rate of 128 kbps to video track and 44.1 KHz/64 kbps mono AAC for same sound quality as in your current stereo track. In addition, the movie played as a "fast-start" movie when I looked at/downloaded it. So the streaming tracks are a waste of storage space/bandwidth here.
    2) Would personally recommend trying a 320 kbps video data rate at 23.98 fps (key frame rate either in auto or manually set in the 24-120 range) and mono AAC 44.1 KHz/64 kbps audio track with streaming turned off. It may be overkill for your purposes, but you can adjust the video data rate downward to reduce file size. Assume you used MPEG-4 here rather than H.264 for greater compatibility. Switching would, however, improve quality if this is not an issue for you or your recipients.

It doesn't really matter if it's an 10 or 8 bit video, it always falls back to software decoding, spouts out these error messages and as a result
the video is completely fucked up or just stutters/drops frames like crazy. This only happens with 1080p videos, 720p or below is just fine.

I'm experiencing this as well, specifically on 0.4.x. If I downgrade to 0.3.9 it works fine, vdpau and all. Try it yourself. I'm thinking it's a bug in mpv.

How can I get audio to play from my TV when using hdmi cable?  Video looks great, just no sound.
I've tried plugging the hdmi into the TV directly and the receiver.
I get video every time.  HBO to Go , Xfinity, ABC, Youtube, etc...
    just no audio.  Any suggestions?
I've tried starting the apps then plugging in the hdmi cable.
I never tried this before I upgraded to IOS 5.

    Claudiamil-
I had not tried it with mine since upgrading to iOS 5, so I just did.  I'm using a small Vizio HDTV.  I did not try YouTube, but did try several videos and musical numbers.  In all cases there was sound, including stereo when the source had it.
I assume you are getting sound from the iPad when the adapter is not connected, so the volume is not turned down.  Dah*veed's suggestion to reset may be what you need.
