1080p60 sanyo fh1

sorry if this is redundant, but i've looked through similar questions that didn't have any answers i thought suited my case. I have a sanyo fh1 camera that records in 1080p60 and stores the files in mp4 with h.264 codec. Up until just a day ago i would transfer the clips to my HD and watch the files in quicktime no problem with playback. Now just randomly the next clip filmed seconds after the other one cannot be played back in quicktime let alone vlc or movist (a program other users said fixed the issue). My OS is 10.5.8. Any thoughts on why quicktime stopped being able to play the clips? i also tried the same clip on my friends same year macbook pro but with less ram and it played back perfectly without artifacts, very puzzling, thanks for your help.

duh!  I completely forgot that the rest of the world lives in an MS-Dos world. SD cards are formatted fat32!!!!! so we're damned by the heritage of all those windowze users out there. The maximum file size in fat32 is 4GB which equals 24 min of iFrame video! Back to tape folks!! Here I thought I had something extra special.

  • Mp4 h.264 1080p60 compression help

i have a sanyo fh1 camcorder that i've recorded a lot of clips in full 1080p60, and is saved in mp4 format with h.264 codec. i realize this isn't a good editing format so i have tried using mpeg streamclip and compressor to change the format to suite fcp 7 better but none seem to be working. I was told to use an apple intermediate codec or apple pro res (lt). so i tried those in compressor and a couple issues ensued. 1) the playback of the encoded video always has several glitches every couple of seconds making the footage hard to enjoy. These glitches resulted when i used mpeg streamclip as well. 2) when i imported the files in fcp 7 and dragged to timeline the sequence settings didn't match so i said yes match the clip and sequence settings but then the red bar appeared over my clip in the timeline which i'm not sure exactly what it means whether its offline or needs rendering but whatever the case there is no audio only beeping. Just wondering if there is any way to keep my encoded version flawless without glitches, and if i should be converting the 1080p footage to 720p to make it more useable.

hey guys thanks for you advice i actually think i solved my issue when i started ecoding to the apple intermediate codec with deinterlacing selected. I was a little confused why i had to deinterlace my video though since i'm pretty sure it was originally filmed in 60p. but i guess my lack of knowledge on the subject would be why it doesn't make exact sense. This method works with perian installed as well so i didn't have to keep it deleted after all. and my HD is 5400rpm sata drive, and so far it has been doing fine now encoding to full unscaled 1080p60 when i deinterlace it.

  • Question about 1080p MP4 files as inputs

    Hello All,
It's been a long time since I visited last. I just ordered a Sanyo FH1 camcorder to try out for the first time. I have been trying to use hybrid cameras for HD clips to go along with my photos in integtrated photo/video shows, but have been disappointed with the IQ, sharpness, and motion when playing the files on my PS3. I usually use ProShow for slideshows, but want to go back to using PREL (I have 7.0) when I have more clips than pix. Will it handle these FH1 1080p60 files as Inputs? I understand that PREL 7 does not output a full 1080p file, but would like to start working with it again. Any experiences would be helpful...

I would have to dig out the details, but several months ago I did bring 1080p60 into the Premiere Elements 7 Timeline and was able to edit it successfully, realizing, as you do, that there is no export for 1080p from Premiere Elements. I would give it a try, using the Premiere Elements 7 project preset (New Project dialog) of NTSC AVCHD Full HD 1080i30 (or the PAL counterpart). That does not prohibit you from making a different export choice.
I did some reading on your camera, the Sanyo FH1. In the Full-HR mode, it looks like it offers the 1080p60 (1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 frames per second, progressive). But, it appears you have an alternative in the Full HD mode of 1080i60 (1920 x 1080 pixels at 60 fields per second (30 frames per second), interlaced). It will be interesting to see how they compare. Whichever way, from what I have read, the capture is to an interlace sensor in the camera, before it is recorded to the camera's medium.
I am just an explorer in this, but my initial venture into this "can Premiere Elements 7 handle 1080p" indicates Yes.
I will be looking forward to your results.

  • What camcorder for IM and how to view on TV

    Hello,
I am an absolute novice when it comes to camcorders, but have decided to get one with junior wah arriving shortly.
I would like HD, not really fussed if it has a HDD or card. I will be using IM to edit the footage and have already guessed I am going to have to upgrade my G4 powerbook to something newer.
What suggestions do you have, I was thinking about the Sanyo FH1 just because of the iframe compatibility but some of the review say the stabilisation isn't very good? Would iframe give as good end results when viewing on a TV?
I have a blueray player that decodes h.264, and was planning on using this to view the footage. Can IM burn a compatible file to DVD and then I use the blueray player to decode it and will the end result be HD?
    Many Thanks

  • H.264 and prores proxy question

I've read through a ton of posts about proxy and h.264 workflows but didn't find any that answers my specific question.
My raw video from my camera is mp4 (h.264). I understand that h.264 is not good to edit with, so I have a few options. I use a macbook pro for editing so I have been toying around with prores proxy for editing and it makes a difference on RT playback and rendering while editing, so that's good. When I get ready to output my movie after editing, I relink my project back to the original h.264 source files and that seems to work fine.
I'm wondering if that's not the right workflow though. Should I transcode the h.264 into prores HQ or LT and then ALSO to proxy, edit with proxy and then relink my project back to the HQ or LT files to output? Or is linking back to my source h.264 files and outputing the right way to go?
Since the original files must be in the best possible quality that I'm going to get (since they're my original clips), I assume that relinking to them right before output is the way to go but I really don't know much about codecs to know if I'm missing something.
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Thanks for your response. I'm shooting with a Sanyo FH1, mostly in 1080p, but I've scaled back to 720 since 1080 was overkill for what I'm doing to save some space.
The thing I don't quite understand yet is the issue with pointing my project back to the source files after all the editing is finished with prores proxy and just before output. That way, FCP would only have to uncompress the source files to render for final output only one time (besides the initial transcoding), albeit, probably longer than it would be for prores. I'm sold on proxy because it was so much faster to edit with than h.264 and I didn't have to keep any video files after I was finished except my source files....trying to budget hard drive space. I transcoded one file a while back to prores but the file size was more than I wanted to deal with since I only edit on my macbook pro so I didn't try to edit with it. Like you said, maybe just converting to prores and dealing with the space juggling would be the best way to go, or try prores LT to see how the quality is.
Does converting from h.264 to prores buy me any quality or a better final result, or just a cleaner workflow? Don't misread my questions, I'm not arguing, just trying to understand from you guys that know a lot more about this than I do. Making my living as a developer, it's just ingrained in me to understand this one

  • IMovie 09 downgrades movie quality

    Hi,
I am importing an mp4 file that is 1080p60p into imovie 09.
Two things happen immediately on import:
    a. The video is downgraded to 30p
    b. The video becomes pixelated and of lesser quality, as if its bitrate was dramatically reduced.
Using a sample file, I measured the following results in the following cases:
    1. Open the native file directly in QT Pro, edit by cut/paste and finally export. Results look great. Video retains 60p and does not become pixelated.
    2. Import the same native file in iMovie 09. The file immediately looks pixelated, and is already in 30p. No matter which way I choose to export, either iMovie native or via QT - the results maintain the 30p and pixelation.
The interesting thing was that when I exported the same 10sec edit in both ways, using the exact same QT settings - the two produced files were exactly the same size, but totally different quality!
Any suggestions how to overcome this? (other than using QT Pro instead of iM )
Could this possible be an iMovie bug?
Btw, I am using mp4 files produced by Sanyo FH1, original samples can easily be found on vimeo.
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
At first I too didn't notice the difference, but once I discovered it, its hard to avoid
The easy way to see it, is to use a clip with some shadows, or low light. See how it plays in its original format, then play it within imovie 09 - the pixelation will become very evident and way more emphasized compared to the original file. To me this looks like a serious imovie issue.
    Thanks

  • ? Preserve raw .mp4 quality on export?

    Hi.
I am using a Sanyo FH1 that saves files with the .mp4 extension.
I can edit video files within the camera and it creates new files with the exact same quality as the original footage.
My feeling is that if a little camera can edit footage so well then my PC + premiere should be able to do the same.
The problem is that I can't seem to find the settings that will give me the same quality as the original footage while retaining approximately the same file size. I have been trying to keep it all in the same extension (.mp4) so I am choosing the H.264 option when exporting and then fiddling with the settings under that.
I have tried with small 10 second clips and many different export media options in premiere, but there is a noticeable loss of quality AND the playback in both Windows Media Player and Quicktime is a little choppy compared to the smooth original footage.
    Help.
    Thanks.

The source video is coming directly from my camera.
    I selected recording mode:
    Frame size: 1280 x 720
    Frame rate: 30p  (29.97 fps)
    Field Order: Progressive
Codec: The manual says "Video clips conform to the ISO standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264"
None of the default export settings match this exactly so I've been picking H.264 first then changing frame size and frame rate to match the source video. One setting that puzzles me is at the very bottom called bitrate and it's on sliders.
I just want to be able to cut and paste the source video in Premiere the same way I do in the camera without loss of quality or making the file size much bigger. The camera can do it so I know it's possible.
    Thanks

  • Sanyo HD-2000 Native 1080p60. How compatible?

    Hi,
I currently own a HD1010. I film in 720p60. I use MPEG StreamClip to produce AIC files to use in FCE 4 (which according to Movie Inspector are 59.94fps).
The HD-2000 is now available which shoots in 1080p60. I suppose I can produce (rather large!) AIC files the same way which would also be 59.94fps.
However, I keep reading posts saying that FCE only works with 30fps (or 29.97). However, I am currently editing in 60fps (or at least I think I am!). The only weird thing is that 'Export to Quicktime' only exports at 29.97fps.
Am I totally mistaken about how FCE works? Am I somehow only editing in 29.97fps?
    Message was edited by: NeilGlroy

Neil, I just bought last week the Xacti FH1 that has the same specifications as the HD2000, the only diffences are the different body, mic input and light that the HD2000 has. I recorded some footage on 1080p60 and import it directly to FCE without converting it to AIC, once you put part of the video on the sequence then it has to be render, but so far rendering just the parts that I want to add to my project sequence instead of converting all the footage to AIC is less time consuming. When I import the footage to FCE and check the properties of the video is shows 59.97 fps but I think depending on what format you export, iy may or may not change the frame rate. Still playing with that. So far the best quaility I have archive to play the final edited movie on my 1080p HDTV via my PS3 is exporting to apple tv format. but the format is equivalent to 1080i30. I tried to export to MP4 using h.264 with 59.97 fps but it run for ever. You will really need a quad core mac to be able to process that. The editing is difficult as well using 1080p60 footage. So far what I have been more succesful with is recording with the camera on 1080i60. My imac can handle that better but still takes time to render or convert.
Hope this gives you some insight

  • Sanyo XACTI FH1 slow motion video does not play on FCE

I have a Xacti FH1 that is capable of recording on 240fps and 600fps. I can import the files recorded on either format to FCE but when I try to preview it FCE crash. I can import the same files to imovie 08 and preview, edit and export it with no issues. Is it possible that imovie can handle this formats and FCE does not? Any help will be greately appreciated on how to make FCE work with this type of content.

You can't. FCE only supports 29.97fps or 25fps. The only way to do it would be to first convert it to one of these frame-rates, but such a drastic downscaling would look horrible after conversion. It might be better for your purposes to consider the jump to Final Cut Pro, which I believe can work with these frame rates.

  • HD Video from Sanyo HD-1 Wont play

    Hello,
Thanks for looking. I have a PowerMac G5 2.0 x2 with 1.5 Gig's of memory. I recently purchased a Sanyo HD-1. Which records 720p Video. It records the video to 2gig SD card. I copyed the video to my hard drive But my Mac cant play it !! The video is SUPER choppy and the audio track sometimes wont align with the video. Anyone else have this problem ?
    Thanks
    rany

I'm using a card reader. If I drag the movie file to the Desktop from the mounted SDHC card, eject the SDHC card, the movie won't play right. I assume it's not playing from the USB connection because I ejected the card. The movie will not play from the mounted SDHC card itself, or when dragged to the Desktop, whether the card has been ejected or not. It will only play in iMovie or when exported from iMovie. I wasn't sure if this was an iMac, iMovie or Quicktime Forum question. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unable to detect new Sanyo PLV-Z5 projector

I just got a new projector and made a presentation on Keynote match the resolution of the projector 1280 x 720. My Imac G5 will not detect the projector and give me the arrange, mirror, etc. questions despite trying to connect the projector with the computer asleep. All I get is a generic list of resolutions whenever I plug in the VGA connector. The projector displays the information but only fills half of the screen.
    Any ideas?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thanks for the response.
When I plug the VGA adaptor on both my iBook and iMac, I get a long list of resolution choices that show up in the display list. This occurs whether it is connected to the projector or not. There is nothing about mirroring, etc. or showing the projector somewhere when I click the Detect button.
My projector is 1280 by 720 and so is my Keynote project so I would like to be able to use its native resolution.
All I get is what is on my computer screen. It seems to want to default to the 1024 x 760 and fills only half of the projector's projected image.
I have tried connecting with the computer asleep or rebooting with it connected but nothing shows up.
The Sanyo literature says it is Mac compatible.
    Are there any other options?

  • DVD won't play in a Sanyo

I've tested my DVD Studio Pro produced DVD on 5 different DVD players with success, yet it WILL NOT play on a client's SANYO DVD player. Is this player too old? The disc was produced straight from my G5's DVD burner. The stock used was DVD-R. Anyone had the same problem? If so, solution?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   I have Production Studio

    Either:
His old DVD player dose not suppor all formats of DVDs. (DVD+R, -R, etc.)
    Or:
The DVDs you are using aren't compatible with that machine. Its not uncommon for different companies DVDs to work on certain machines and not others. Find a name that works, like memorex, verbatim, taiko yuden, etc. and keep in mind that different batches of DVDs can be different even if from the same company.

  • Sanyo LCD TV as 2nd Monitor flicks to black & pops

    Hey All,
2.66 Mac Pro running Mavericks 10.9. I plugged in my Sanyo DP42849 via HDMI using a(n admittedly third party) Mini DisplayPort to HDMI converter dongle. I should mention, I've never attempted to use this TV as a 2nd monitor, but I have used the same dongle and a Panasonic 1080p 42" tv with no issue (albeit not on Mavericks)
When I plug it in, if it recognizes the signal at all, it alternates between the desktop background for anywhere from 0-4 seconds, and black for 0-5 seconds. Inconsistently, sometimes there will be a signal pop coming from the TV.
Is this a TV issue? A Mavericks issue? A dongle issue? A Graphics Card issue? What's going on here?
I have tested 2 different HDMI cables (same result), but I only own one dongle.
When I go to the displays menu, refresh rate is greyed out, and changing the resolution does nothing towards stabilizing the signal on the TV.
    Thanks for your help!!

Well the lcd that I provided the link for would be the production monitor to hopefully see how a television would view the finished product. I've got my eye on something like the Acer AL1916W - 19" LCD WideScreen for my widescreen #2 monitor. *just in case I confused anyone. As you suggested though, I will be researching more for the # monitor. Thanks again.

  • Sanyo Phone always mounts read-only

I recently purchased a Sanyo M1 phone that has a USB mass storage mode.
The phone has 1GB of internal memory that is formatted with FAT16. When connected via a USB cable, a "SANYO" drive appears on the desktop, and is labeled "/Volumes/SANYO".
This drive shows as locked in the finder, and the permissions information says "You can only read."
Going to the command line, shows that it is mounted read-only:
    /dev/disk2s1 on /Volumes/SANYO (local, nodev, nosuid, read-only)
If I attempt to remount it as read-write:
    Lappy-386:~ greg$ mount -u -o rw /dev/disk2s1
    mount_msdos: /dev/disk2s1: Resource busy
    Lappy-386:~ greg$ sudo !!
    sudo mount -u -o rw /dev/disk2s1
    mount_msdos: /dev/disk2s1: Resource busy
I have heard that this may be because Mac OS doesn't react well to devices that don't respond to it's mode sensing. I don't really care about mode sensing, I care about being able to forcibly mount this device as read-write, as it works perfectly well in Windows (even under Parallels) and Linux.
For a platform that prides itself on 'plug it in and it works', not being able to plug in a simple mass storage device is a huge mistake. What's even worse is that there is no option to forcibly mount it as read-write, and there is no error message that tells you why it is mounted read only. The console (in system.log) has:
    Apr 18 14:16:46 Lappy-386 kernel[0]: USBF: 691451.613 AppleUSBEHCI[0x4344000]::Found a transaction past the completion deadline on bus 253, timing out!
The question is, how do I make this device show up read-write? Who can I contact at Apple to explain this problem? I do have AppleCare.
