-10810 Application "Finder.app" cannot start
Every now and then, the finder stalls and can't be started again. Mostly while creating files from Adobe Illustrator to a VMWare machine. Sometimes, unplugging the external volume which I use for Time Machine, helps, sometimes not. This is absolutely maddening!
Yes, right, I forgot to mention that I often have iTunes running in the background while working. Until I installed iTunes 10, the problem was solved if I unmounted the external drive I use for Time Machine backups. Now, possibly since I installed iTunes 10, unplugging the external drive doesn't help anymore. Only restarting the machine does.
Extremely annoying!

Time machine problem? The application Finder.app can't be opened -10810
I've got a Snow Leopard system with an external FireWire Maxtor drive that has been set to be a Time Machine archive of the internal drive. I'm noticing the following problem (twice so far) which may or may not be TM related. I leave my machine and come in the morning; Time Machine says no backup happened since 7:45pm last night. I notice the file system is acting weird - can't open any of the disks from the desktop. I try to restart the Finder, and it says "The application Finder.app can't be opened -10810" - won't start the Finder! So, I had to reboot (and disconnected the FW drive). I'll try it for a couple of nights without the TM machine and see what happens. The reason I suspect TM is that sometimes I see the icon on the TM disk change from the blue/gray TM icon back to its native FW disk icon, and sometimes I see a message that says "Can't find disk" or something similar for that external drive.
Any ideas? Should I be looking for an external drive from another vendor, or will it be the same thing? Does TM have problems associated with Finder and error -10810? How do I debug?

No, I tried different drives, and it made no difference.
In the end I turned it off, and did backups with SuperDuper!.
funny you should mention SuperDuper. When you had this problem, did you have SuperDuper scheduled to back up other drives? I have a theory, which I'll test eventally. For some reason, this TM problem only happened at night - not all the times it activated (every hour) during the workday. Why?!? Well, one thing that happens at night for me is a scheduled SuperDuper backup of the same drive (the one TM is backing up) onto a mirror drive (not the one TM is writing to).
Maybe that's when the freeze occurs - when they both coincide at night? I'd think that the Unix-base of OS X shouldn't have any problems when two apps are reading one disk and at the same time, but maybe TM and SuperDuper are both doing some sort of low-level reads that can't be done at the same time? What do you think - might this explain your issues also?

Upgraded to new OS version and getting "The application “Finder.app” can’t be opened."
The icon in the tray has a small black dot under it. Not sure whether that is relevantHi ..
A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help after an OS X upgrade.
Top left corner of your screen click the Apple > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds, then press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator.
Once you are in Safe Mode, go back to the Apple menu. From the drop down menu click: Restart
Then try the Finder.

SW2 - Different certificates of Host App and Smart Connect. Host App cannot start.
I got my SmartWatch 2 today and installed Smart Connect and SmartWatch 2 app from google play, got the smartwatch to pairing with my phone manual bluetooth connect.
But in the notification bar i getting " Different certificates of Host App and Smart Connect. Host App cannot start." and i can not go in to settings on Smart Connect for the SW2.
Please help, right now i can not use the smartwatch becouse of no apps....
Solved!
Go to Solution. That sounds strange. Have you installed both Smart Connect and SmartWatch 2 from Google Play or did you install them from another source? If installed from Google Play, uninstall (updates) SmartWatch 2 and Smart Connect and then install/update them again from Google Play.

I accidentally quit finder.app on my MacBookPro SL 10.6 from the force quit menu as it hanged... now am having trouble relaunching it...

This just happened subsequent to restared after opening an email about free medical apps. Lately, I've had to go to Finder > Apps to open my homepage, gmail, on Firefox. I prefer Firefox to Safari. Thanks in advance for responses.

-10810 Application Finder Can't be Opened
Ok, so before people slam me...i HAVE gone thru and read several articles and posts on this error and tried their suggestions and nothing has solved my problem. So i've decided to use Console to get the "hang" error details to post here, in hopes someone can translate and tell me what my issue is AND hopefully how to resolve it.... the last console log on this is as follows:

Cannot run application in JSC - Cannot start app server
I have 4 separate JSF applications developed in JSC.
On occasion, I have a problem starting the application server and get a popup saying to check for misassigned port names and contents of domain.xml.
Whenever this happens, a system reboot seems to clear up the problem until now.
Now, rebooting does not help.
I have tried all 4 projects after rebooting and none of them will start.
I do not know anything about the workings of the server, so I have not changed any of the server files since the time that it was working.
I have attached the server log below.
Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem is and how to resolve it?
Thanks

[#|2007-06-21T12:37:04.618-0500|WARNING|sun-appserver-pe8.2|javax.enterprise.tools.launcher|_ThreadID=10;|LAUNCHER005:Spaces in your PATH have been detected. The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop. Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components. |#]

Error -10810 (The application Finder.app can't be opened)
Hello,
My praise: For the first time in 3.5 year that I own a Mac I found this error in one of my account.
My problem: Everybody in our household have a login, last night my wife tried to use hers and got this error. You can not start any application the only thing you can do is switch account but if you do that all other account a stuck. After restarting the machine I can access my login without any problem. I repaired permission and scan the disk. I also used the tips I found here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10340873 as well as the tool mention. No solution, still doing it.
My question: Did anybody got this message other than Guuz? I'm thinking of deleting the user and recreate one, how do I retrieve the document folder in this user before I delete. Any other idea?
Thanks
ThierryI've seen this errors a few times on my machine. usually restarting makes it go away. but when it happens to me it happens on all accounts so i don't think recreating a user will solve this. I usually repair the startup disk and zap all caches with YASU afterward to be on safe side.

The application Finder.app can't be opened. (-600)
...After updating to 10.8.2. Anybody else?.
Bob's solution was no solution for me, probably because after trashing those 2 PLISTs I decided to follow critichu's advice of relaunching the Finder rather than logging out or restarting.
Let's face it. When I have these Finder problems, I can always solve them by restarting. But the reason I came to this forum in the first place was to find out how to prevent this from either happening again or solve it quickly so I don't need to logout or restart.
What seems to cause Finder problems for me on a regular basis is my Time Capsule, which is connected to my 10.8.4 DuoCore iMac via Gigabit Ethernet (and shared in our office). For whatever reason, while I am in the midst of copying files to/from the Time Capsule, the Finder will lockup with spinning beachball forever. I have experienced this often in Adobe Illustrator too. When saving a file from Illustrator to my Time Capsule, my entire Mac locks up and I am forced to restart.
Anyway, the problem I have today was not caused by a document save to Time Capsule in Illustrator, but by merely copying files from my Time Capsule to my desktop. The Finder locked up, so I tried to kill it and relaunch. It wouldn't relaunch. So I then started quitting all my open apps (including Illustrator and Outlook), and then mysteriously the Finder launched.
Strangeness began though when I clicked on the Downloads folder sitting in my Dock. I always choose "Show in Finder" when I right-click on that folder in my Dock. But this time when I do that, I get a "Finder can't be opened" error -600. But the Finder is already open! However, when I hit Opt-CMD-ESC, I see two instances of the Finder in the dialog! But in Activity Monitor, I only see one instance of the Finder. And quitting that instance (which quits the Finder visually), still leaves one open instance inside the "Force Quit Applications" dialog!
Yes, I've tried "killall Finder" in the Terminal, but that just gives me the following error:
No matching processes belonging to you were found
Is there really no rememdy for this other than to Logout or Restart? Surely there must be. This is getting quit painful.
I'm also unsure when this started. I think I was still having this problem even under Lion, although exclusively in Illustrator (when saving to my Time Capsule), rather than in the Finder.
I'm baffled. -
Finder.app doesn't start error -10810
Hope someone can help:
Restarted the computer and the finder app doesn't start anymore showing error -10810 (The application Finder.app can't be opened)
The top menu bar doesn't show and no app can be started. Safari says: You can't use this version of the application Safari.app with this version of MAC OS X
ps. the cdrom doesn't work!I repaired permissions from the SL DVD a few times and nothing changed.
Finder starts then closes.
Any app I run ends up in a Problem Report dialog with the SIGTRAP exception type. -
Hi,
In the last couple of days I have found that I can't shut down. When trying to open Finder I get the following message... The application Finder can't be opened - 10810.
Everything else seems to be OK. However I do have to sign in to Google Mail every time, where in the past it opened up automatically. I am a really novice at fixing problems, so any help would be great. The application Finder can't be opened -10810
"A number of people are having a problem where the Finder will hang or crash, followed by a Finder error message saying "The application Finder.app can't be opened. -10810." The general agreement among affected users seems to be that this is spurred mainly when accessing external drives, but there could be a few other related reasons."

"Finder.app can't be opened"
I seem to have had finder lockup and have to force quit out of it a number of time recently.
I then get
The application finder.app can't be opened -10810
and have to run a restart to get it going again.
how worried should I be about this? Solutions?
Thanks in advance for any experience on this. These are both simple and could fix it.
Restart in safe mode.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
Then restart normally.
Delete the Finder preferences file.
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/finder.html
If both of these fail then you will need to try repair permission etc. Which are more complicated.
edit: You could also try making a new user account and if the problem doesn't persist migrating your files over

Finder.App Does not Respond
Problem with Finder app since external USB drive connected to Time Machine - Relaunch of Finder gives following "Application finder.app can't be opened 10810" ?
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
