10g (10.2.01) setup/java.exe hangs on Windows 2000 SP4.

Hi all,
I'm currently having an issue with a 10g install on Windows 2000 (SP4) hosted on a Windows Virtual Machine.
I remote to this machine using PCAnywhere.
When I run setup.exe it just hangs on the java.exe process.
I have run the setup with a -debug option and am not seeing anything out of the ordinary.
I have also checked the the log and it does not seem to contain any errors.
I have run through the 10g pre installation requirements and don't believe that is a problem as the
machine and OS meets all the criteria.
I have researched a similar setup.exe/java.exe hanging issues and have tried some of those solutions to no avail.
For instance moving the 10g the install folder to C: drive and confirming there are no spaces in the install path.

As Daniel stated on his previous post, this is not supported from the official oracle point of view, so if you are implementing this for production environments, even if it worked, you would be on your own. However, this should work. Check if you have any other java environment on the scope of the PATH environment variable. A virtual machine is from the OS configuration point of view the same as a physical machine, if the PATHs are scrambled and if you are accessing different versions of JRE at install time, this won't work, and the first symptom is a frozen java session.

  • Java.exe return codes - windows

I have a java application being run from a batch file on WindowsNT4sp6a using Sun's j2se 1.3.0 (build 1.3.0-C) with Java Hotspot (TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode) and during the course of running the app (confirmed that it happens at different places in the app by observing logs), the VM simply dies with no exceptions thrown that my java app can catch.
But, using MS batch environment variable ERRORLEVEL, I observe that the java.exe is returning 3 as the return code. I also have observed that java.exe returns 0 normally.
Can anyone clue me into where I can find info about what return code 3 is?
Also, are there any VM log/tracing mechanisms I can turn on to help debug this problem?

    Thank you for your reply.
But, this is why this is so weird ... I am the programmer (well, maintenace programmer), and the java program is not using System.exit(), therefore, the java.exe should return 0 (zero) when the end of the main() is reached (right?).
    But, it doesn't, it returns 3 ....
Well, I know the end of the main() is not being reached (because the program is not completing its' task). Plus, all the code is wrapped in try { ... } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } ... and no exceptions!
Then, I wrapped all that in try { ... } catch(Error err) { System.out.println("caught an error!"); } ... but no dice, whatever is happening, it is out of the control of my java program.
What could this mean, I am assuming (and correct me if I am wrong) that if I don't call System.exit(3), then it must be the jvm itself returning that code (3) .... and probably due to an internal error ... and I would assume the internal error is in some manner being caused by my code, but if I had a list of possible return codes for this specific jvm implementation and their meanings, then I would have an idea of what to look for in the code.
I was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction on this forum quickly, but I guess I will have to earn my pay and figure it out the old fashioned way ... work!.
    Just to add:
My current game plan is to check all the JDBC code, it looks as if not all the Statement and Connection objects are being closed properly before new ones are created (don't ask). It uses the sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver and I have heard it can be buggy if you don't properly close those things.

  • Java.exe crashes with windows access exception

When OracleASHome102HTTPServer starts I get a Win2000 access exception c0000005 on java.exe. Little DrWatson window pops up... O9i logs Logs show nothing. Only drwatson shows problem info, assembler dump, ets...
    Anyone know what's wrong? I've got O9iAS 1.0.2.0, Win2000SP1, Pentium 4, 1.4GHz, 512Mg RAM?
I know there is a problem with the jre JIT compiler on the P4. Got around this during O9iAS installation by using the '-nojit' parameter on all invocations of jrew.exe and jre.exe. Is my java.exe problem still with the P4 chip?
    Regards,
    Jim Anderson

    solution
I have solved the problem, and the method as follows:
    1.look for the dll file:symcjit.dll(the path is %oracle_home%\Apache\jdk\jre\bin) ,
    2.change the extension to .old
    3.restart the httpServer
    4.ok
try it,and hope you good luck

  • OAS 10g Standard Edition installer fails. windows 2000 sp4

I downloaded and unzipped the 2 zip files from: http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101201se.html.
When I double-click Disk1\setup.exe ... the mouse pointer changes momentarily to an hourglass, but then nothing. The installer quits immediately. No new process running in windows task manager so the installer doesn't appear to have ever run. I can't seem to find any error log, the installer just quits.
Running Disk1\setup.exe from the command line also quits immediately.
I'm connecting to the Win 2k box through terminal services, if that matters.
    Any help with this appreciated.
    Versions / specs:
Oracle Application Server 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.0.1) Standard Edition One
    MS Windows 2000 5.0.2195 SP 4. 2G Ram, 3G swap space.

Thanks! I get an access permission denied error now, but I think that's a windows account issue.
Thanks again! I should be on my way.

  • Itunes.exe has generated errors - Windows 2000 SP4

    Hi there,
    Please can someone help me??
I have been using i-Tunes 7 for some time now on my Windows 2000 machines, however, since re-installing Windows 2000, and downloading i-tunes 7 and clean installing, i-Tunes suddenly stops working in the midst of installing other essential software and updates (which were all running before re-installing Windows 2000 alongside i-tunes 7 with no problems).
When I try to load i-tunes, I get "itunes.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows, you will need to restart the program".
I have tried uninstalling i-tunes, Quicktime won't uninstall and says "Fatal Installation Error" when trying to do so. But even when re-installing or downgrading to an earlier i-tunes (i-tunes 4) - it still gives the same error message!
I am at my wit's end - I have re-installed Windows 2000 for the third time today and it will work at first, but then suddenly gives this error every time I load i-tunes.
    Please help!!
    Happy New Year

I have tried this (I uninstalled EVERYTHING including Quicktime & Apple Update), but I am still getting the same error message.

  • RoboHTML.exe and WHOffice.exe hang at "Windows Installer"

When we try to start RoboHelp either with RoboHTML.exe or
with WHOffice.exe, it brings up a window labelled "Windows
Installer" with "Preparing to install..." and a Cancel buton
inside. It never gets beyond this and if I press Cancel, the window
locks and has to be killed in Task Manager. I have tried everything
I can think of including uninstalling all the X5 updates,
uninstalling the entire X5 product, deleting its Program Files
directory, rebooting and reinstalling RoboHelp Office X5 from CD
using my key starting with RHO13. I've also tried updating the
Windows installer. The problem occurs even under different logins
(all with administrative privileges). Any idea what could be the
    problem?
Thank you for any help you can give!

cleanup utility for the Windows Installer.
You should consider visiting the link below and downloading
Microsoft's installer cleanup utility. See if that corrects the
    issue on the affected PC.

    Hi Rick,
Actually, I installed the cleanup utility and after
uninstalling RH, there was no listing for RH in the utility. Maybe
I don't know the way its supposed to be used. Are you supposed to
run the cleanup on RH after RH is installed?
As additional info, there are several other Adobe products
    installed on this machine including:
    Acrobat 8.1.2 Standard
    Illustrator CS3
    Photoshop 6.0
    Shockwave Player 11
    SVG Viewer 3.0
    Winsoft Linguistics Plugin
As well as Pinnacle Studio 12, Picasa 2 and ProDAD to name a
    few other installed programs.
Don't know if any of those could be causing the problem.
    Thanks Rick,

  • Universal Installer Dies on 10g on Windows 2000 SP4

    Hi,
    Windows2000, SP4
I have downloaded Oracle 10g Database, Client and Companion CD. I managed to install the Client and to run the Companion installer - which I could not conclude obviously without a 10g Database installed.
However, the installation of the 10g Database itself failed, three steps into the Universal Installer. I have started the OUI, used several settings for Oracle_Home and the target directory, chosen both Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition, but each time the OUI dies after (or at the end of) "Specify installion types" - it simply vanishes. I have downloaded the zip-file again, but with the same result. I have also tried the OUI included with the 10g Client and the 10g Companion, but still the same result. Now warning/error-log etc.
    Does anyone has any ideas?
    thanks a lot!
    Lucas Jellema

I have the same problem, on the same configuration.
When the OUI dies, it leaves behind a file in c:\temp\hs_err_pidXXX.log, with this content:

  • A process java.exe uses 100% cpu

This problem stops me start database 10g on Windows XP. I am wondering anyone might have same experience before and could share how to fix the issue. Here is situation:
Every time when 10g database starts, a process java.exe which is loaded by nmesrvc.exe (I think it is OracleDBConsoleMyInstance, right?) uses 89% cpu forever. Because of this, OEM couldn't work! Shutdowning the database and restarting it didn't solve the problem. Killing nmesrvc.exe can stop the java.exe. SQL*Plus still works. But iSQL*Plus didn't works.
If I stop process OracleDBConsoleMyInstance from Services of Windows, I got error: Error 1053.
What is wrong here. Your help will be appreciated,

I had the same problem and was able to resolve it.
I am using 2 W2K3 servers, one for infrastructure and one for mid-tier (Portal). On the infrastructure machine I used the Administrative Tools -> Services Management Console and first stopped the OracleDBConsole, CPU was still 100% busy. Then I stopped the OracleINFRAControl and the CPU went to 0%. Then I restarted the OracleINFRAControl and then OracleDBConsole and now the CPU is hovering around 2%.
I ran some tests from another machine and everything seems fine.

  • How to start a java application as windows 2000 service?

    Hi all,
I'm trying to start / stop a java application as a windows 2000 service. But nothing appens (I can see the screen that rapidly display the java help prompt and then disappear)
    I've a working directory i.e C:\MyDir and it contains instsrv.exe, srvany.exe and my application jar MyApp.jar
    I'm using instsrv.exe to register a java application as a service ( C:\MyDir\instsrv MyApp C:\MyDir\srvany.exe )
I've added a key in registry by running regedit
The key is under the tree HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MyApp
    the key value is Parameters
in the key I've added a string value "Application" with the value "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_01\bin\java.exe"
and a string value "AppParameters" with the value "-classpath C:\MyDir\MyApp.jar main" where main is the name of the main class application.
This seems to run correctly with Windows NT 4.0
But doesn't work with Windows 2000.
    Can anyone help me?? pls.
    Thanks.

  • Java Path Resolution on Windows

Today I was messing around with different Java versions and discovered that Java is a little more tightly integrated with Windows than I originally thought. Maybe it's just a JRE thing, and not a JDK thing. I don't know.
I have both Java 5 and Java 6 installed, and was trying to back down to Java 5 for a moment (investigating a "cannot access <whatever>.class" compiler error). I updated all of my environment variables (Windows XP) to point to the Java 5 JDK folder. But it was still using Java 6 JRE. So I moved the Java 6 JRE folder to a super-secret-haha-you-can't-get-to-it-now location. This gave me the following error:
Error: could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\i386\jvm.cfg'
Doesn't matter that all of my environment variables point to the Java 5 JDK, somehow invoking java from anywhere other than the Java 5 JDK bin folder causes some other handler to try and look up configuration from the JRE 6 folder that no longer exists.
Can anyone shed some light as to what is handling the command line call to java without letting it defer to the Java 5 JDK referenced in the path?
I guess I'll just see if I can uninstall the Java 6 JRE.

Java.exe goes in \windows\system32. It is just a stub that refers to the correct JRE based on the registry HKLM\software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment, which contains some keys pointing to Java 1.6.
Therefore, I would try to add a path to the desired java.exe from the JRE directory BEFORE \windows\system32.

  • Labview 2009 .exe not working with windows 2000

I created a simple vi with Labview 2009 to reset a counter in registry key. I changed it to an exe. The program runs fine on any machine with XP but it does not work on the machine I need it on which is running Windows 2000 SP4. I installed the 2009 runtime but I continue to get an error when it starts up saying the vi is not executable and that I need the full development to fix the errors. But like I said it works every where else. I've tried other exe wrote in LV2009 on this machine and they work. Is there something in my vi that is not compatible with Windows 2000?
