10G - 11G with New Hardware

Hi,
I am looking to move my current Oracle 10G R2 (x32) DB from a physical Server to a new Virtual Server with Oracle 11G (x64) installed. I have installed the new OS onto the Virtual Host along with the latest 11G. My question is what is the best solution to get all my data over to the new DB? Will I need to create the table space and schema again? How about the Oracle users with permissions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am doing this on a Development System for testing before I even consider this on or Production System.

Hi,

  • 10gR2 to 11gR1 on win2k3R2 with new Hardware

I am going to upgrade from 10gR2 ee to 11gR1 ee on new hardware.
    Both are win2k3R2 32bit.
I would like to only install 11gR1 software on the new box and drives.
    My question.
Do I only have the exp/imp option to move the db or can I copy (backup/restore) the tablespaces and use DBUA?
Does anyone have any experiance with a bare metal upgrade? I have done the exp/imp before and it works but is very tedious.
    Thanks,
    Bob

if you use either export/import or the Datapump it is a feasible solution if the amount of data is reasonable manageable, otherwise you have a non-scalable solution.
If you don't want to install both 10g and 11g on your new hardware, you could install 11g on your old hardware, then perform the upgrade process there and move the database files to the new hardware platform.
You can also use the transportable tablespace feature to move create a 10g transportable set and plug it into the 11g database.

  • Oracle 10G/11G with JBuilder

    Hi Gurus,
I am new bie in the Java development world. I am looking for purchasing a laptop on which I can install Oracle (either 10G or 11G does not matter) and JBuilder as the project on which I am going to work on uses JBuilder tool.
    I have two questions
    1) Is Windows 8 comptaible with Oracle 10G or 11G ?
    2) Also can I install JBuilder on a Windows 8 Laptop ?
    Regards
    Fm

Thanks Timo for getting back to me so promptly. I do understand that this forum is not for JBuilder as Oracle uses JDeveloper to do the same stuff.
But can u specifically answer my question
    1) Is Windows 8 compatible with Oracle 10G/ 11G ?
    2) Assuming if its not yet compatible with Oracle 11G. Can we safely install JBuilder on Windows 7 and use it with Oracle 10G.
Please advise. I value advise from experts like you.
    Cheers !

  • Migration from 7.0.2-10000 to 9.1.1 with new Hardware

    Hello,
a customer from us wants to upgrade from Version 7.0.2-10000 to the new CUCM 9.1.1.
I know that we have to use new hardware.
    My plan is the following:
    - Update all needed phone firmware to the latest in 7.0.2
    - Install the patch ciscocm.refresh_upgrade_v1.1.cop.sgn
    - Install Version 9.1.1 on the old hardware
    - Take a backup from the installed 9.1.1 on the old hardware
    - Install the 9.1.1 on the new hardware
    - Restore the taken Backup from the old hardware with the new Version
    - Do the licensing stuff
    - Great all things are running...
Can someone apply this way to migrate??
    Thanks a lot...
    Christian

If you want to avoid the phone FW upgrade after going to 9.1.1, upgrade to the same loads on your current version so you can control the upgrade process and do it with small groups of phones at a time.
Other than that,if your MCS supports the target version, you're good to go with that plan.

  • Bootcamp Issues: XP Frozen with New Hardware Found screen

I've installed bootcamp on an Imac with MacOS 10.6.4. This went fine. Then I installed XP. This went fine as well. Then I inserted a Mac OX X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 disk to install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows. But XP is just frozen with the "Found New Hardware Wizard" screen. Nothing happens.
The Mac OS Snow Leopard 10.6.4 disk is not the one that came with the Imac. We don't have that disk. Could this be the problem?
If so, what can be done at this point?

That could indeed be the problem. What OSX disc are you using ? A retail bought one ? Or one that came with another Mac ?
If so, what can be done at this point?
Best would be to call Apple while having the serialnumber of your iMac at hand and ask for replacement OSX discs.
Usually Apple sends them to you for a relativlely small fee.
Since you also need the OSX disc for basic troubleshooting tasks it is vital to have one.

  • Authorization issue with new hardware install

I recently had a motherboard go bad. I replaced the MB and processor and installed the original HD which had survived the failure. After setting up the machine with its new hardware, I turned on Itunes. It asked for a password to authorize the computer. I typed in the password and Itunes became functional but it now says I have three computers authorized when I only have two. Perhaps I should have asked the question before authorizing the same machine twice but I did not realize that that was what I was doing. Is there a way to solve this problem?

This happens from time to time and nothing we can do to ever predict the outcome with technology in knowing our machines that will be used.
iTunes Stores allows you to Authorize 5 total machines. Once this 5 is reached if you have access to any of the machines you can de-authorize them.
What do I do when I no longer have access to this Machine?
Once a year iTunes Store Support will allow you to reset permissions for all the accounts.
This is Typically accessed via the following and is available once you reached your 5 machine limit.
iTunes Menu Bar - Store - View My account - Confirm Password - De-authorize All computers
This will reset the count to 0. And you can start fresh.
Personally I would not worry too much about it till you reach 5. Otherwise you got to wait a full year to perform the action again.

  • Suspend MDT, Sysprep for disk cloning, and resume with new hardware failure.

I am able to successfully Sysprep for disk cloning after pausing the Deployment (via LTISuspend). The problem is when I attempt to resume the Deployment after duplicating the hard drive and placing in new hardware it fails immediately stating that it cannot
open the TSENV.DAT (80090005). It works fine if you resume in the identical hardware it was built in.
The hardware is identical for all computers receiving the cloned drive with the Mac Address, Serial Number, and UUID being different.
Knowing that the TSENV.DAT is encrypted, is there a way to prep it for minor hardware (mac address, uuid, and serial number only) change prior to pausing and sysprep so it does not fail?
Using MDT 2012 and Windows 7 OS.
    Thanks

Let me add to what Mr. Owen described.
We have a complex MDT.  It has been used for years for a globally scaled corporate desktop.
What we are looking to do to is sysprep this machine 3/4 of the way through the process, clone the drive, and then use the cloned drive on like hardware models (we used PersistDrivers in the Unattend).
I initially ran sysprep outside of the MDT.  It ran successfully, however when we moved the syspreped (and cloned) drive to another hardware of identical type we got the error Mr Owen mentioned.  What we hoped would happen if we called Sysprep from
the MDT directly is the TSENV would be cleaned/updated to remove any workstations specific identifiers and thus eliminate the error.

  • I would like to replace my old AE 802.11g with new version 802./11n - How do I connect

I have just bought a new Airport Express (802.11n wi-fi)  and would like to use it as the base station in place of the older version (802.11g).
The old one to be used in another room connecting to my sound sytem as an extention to the new one.
Both of these AEs  utilise different Aiport Utility (5.6 against 6.1).
Can anyone please give me some detailed explanations of  how I can set-up these devices, if indeed they are possible.
    Alan

Sorry, just to make sure: Do you want the older 802.11g Express just for iTunes streaming or (in addition) to extend the wireless range of the newer 802.11n Express? If it is the latter, you may want to reconsider doing so as the only way to extend with "mixed" base stations is with a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).
A WDS has two major disadvantages: 1) It can only operate in the 802.11g radio mode, basically negating the advantage of your 802.11n Express, and 2) For every base station added to the WDS, the overall bandwidth is cut in half. So starting with 54 Mbps (for 802.11g), your extended wireless network will be running around 25-27 Mbps.

  • Sync with new hardware

HD crash killed my PowerMac's Maxtor HD. New HD installed. No backup.
Apparently, the photos and iTune songs on an iPhone can't be synced back to the computer.
Anyone know of a way to export photos and songs from an iPhone to a media type that can then be imported into iPhoto and iTunes, respectively?
    Thanks,

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only. The sync process for iTunes content is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone, and the same applies to photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process. Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the transfer process, so the original resolution of these photos is lost.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content from an iPod or iPhone that was purchased from the iTunes store, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased from the iTunes store only.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
There are 3rd party utilities available that provide for transferring iTunes content that was not purchased from the iTunes store and the same for photos that were transferred from your computer, but such utilities are not supported by Apple, and the original resolution of these photos will be lost.
The iPhone is not designed nor intended to be a backup device, and should not be considered as such. This is one of the reasons why maintaining a backup of the important data on your computer's hard drive which should include your iTunes library and photos stored on your computer's hard drive is so important.

  • Airport extreme 802.11g with new Powerbook issue

Situation: Have a new Powerbook and replacing Linksys wireless router with older Airport Extreme. After connecting, network shows connection to the automatically named Apple network, however, unable to get on internet. Guessing the base station has a long forgotten password, so tried to use airport admin utility to reset but couldn't locate the program on the hard drive. Do the new G4's not include this program ? Or could it be some other steps I'm not taking to resolve ?

Hi, dvj001. There are no "new Powerbooks" or "new G4s"; the last G4 Macs were discontinued more than two years ago. What model is your machine, assuming it really is a Powerbook?

  • WiFi no longer working with new Time Capsule-can you help please?

    Hi all,
Just received my new Time Capsule (TC). It was a little problematic setting up, but probably due to my now choosing to increase my security from WEP to WPA as the TC set-up assistant suggests. Since then, I have had numerous problems getting my other computers and now my iPhone to connect with WiFi.
The problem is that despite entering all the new settings and WPA passwords for my connection with the TC, the iPhone will either momentarily recognize and go to wifi or simply stay on Edge.
On the former, with wifi active, as soon as I go to iTunes, Safari or check email, it reverts to Edge. On the latter, despite resetting, entering password, or tapping Settings and selecting my wifi connection, it will NOT connect and stays on Edge.
(Now, I'm on Edge! I'm bummed that with new hardware I have new problems that didn't exist before!)
Can someone who had this same problem tell me how they resolved it.
Here's the one clue I have, but would rather not resort to: When I first set up the TC, I had it on WEP with a WDS Network, and everything was working great and FAST! Now that I have increased the security—I will be backing up 3 computers to the TC—my iPhone and other computers seem to have intermittent or no wifi connection as a result.)

    Irving Gonzales,
If your computers are 802.11N capable, you might want to try an advanced setup that might help your Time Machine speeds some. I have not personally tested it, so it is just a personal theory at this point.
First, in a mixed environment the 802.11N clients all get slowed down.
First, configure the TC for 802.11N only.
Second, connect the Airport Express via ethernet to the Time Capsule
Third, configure the Airport Express for bridged mode (doesn't give out IP addresses), and for its own wireless network with a different name than the Time Capsule.
Have any 802.11b/g clients like the iPhone join the Airport Express' network.
    Thank you,
    Nathan C.
