10g Agent upload to OMS

Is it possible to configure the OMS server to pull the upload information from the Agent rather than have the Agent Push the information to the OMS.
we have a firewall and the Tech group is concerned about opening the port to push into our internal network.
thanks
Marc

I have set up a huge Grid Control for 1000 Targets 20% are behind the firewall.
There is not security issue opening the ports.
Steps to take
1. Open 2 oms ports
Secure and non
2. Install Agent software on targets anyway you can
3. Configure Agent to use HTTPS (Secure connection)
4. Connect agent to oms using the new secure connections
5. connect to Console and check connection type

  • Need Steps or documents to connect existing 10g agent to 11g oms

    Hi All,
Just installed 11g oms on oel 5.5 linux and it runs good. We have several hp servers run 10205 agents and they are monitored by 10205 oms on window. We want to use this new 11g oms to replace the 10205 oms. How to make this 11g linux oms to find the 10g hp agents?
Has anyone known the steps to configure an existing 10205 hp agent to connect to linux 11g oms? Or generally the steps to modify an existing 10g agent to see the 11g oms?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Sorry my mistake.
    You should
    1.
    Stop the Management Agent.
    2.
Locate the emd.properties file in the Management Agent home directory:
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/config/emd.properties
    3.
Use a text editor to open the file and locate the REPOSITORY_URL property.
    4.
Modify the value for the REPOSITORY_URL property so it references the new Management Service. For example:
    REPOSITORY_URL=http://mgmthost2.acme.com:4889/em/upload
    5.
Modify the value for the emdWalletSrcUrl property so it references the new Management Service. For example, if the new Management Service is on a host called mgmthost2.acme.com , modify the property as follows:
    emdWalletSrcUrl=http://mgmthost2.acme.com:4889/em/wallets/emd
    6.
Save your changes and close the emd.properties file.
    7.
To ensure that the Management Agent is no longer holding any specific data or settings from the previous Management Service, delete all the files in the following directories:
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/upload/
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/state/
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/collection/*
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/lastupld.xml
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/agntstmp.txt
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/blackouts.xml
    AGENT_HOME/sysman/emd/protocol.ini
Note that this action removes all user-defined metrics (UDM)s and custom changes to metric and policy collections.
    Note:
You can use the emctl clearstate agent command to delete the files in the state directory.
    8.
    Restart the Management Agent.

  • Target down, Agent Upload/OMS refresh rate

Using 10.1.0.4.0 Grid Control,. OMS and all agents running on MS platforms.
Currently testing agents, and in particular metrics and alert rates...
The example I need to ask about is this...
We have an agent running on a server, on which several targets exist. We shutdown an Oracle Listener on the server, and after a few mins (this duration varies) we receive an 'Target Down' alert in OMS, and the associated email....
    So far, so good...
However, how can the 'alert rate' be changed so that an alert is created immediately following the shutdown of the listener? Also, the alert remains several mins after the listener has been restarted...
The way EM currently works with alerts isn't very useful if users say the application is unavailable, but to DBAs using EM - (for several mins) everything looks okay!
    Any help, appreciated :-)

    Check uploadinterval in emd.properties:
Here is a description of this parameter
uploadInterval - Number of minutes to wait before the Agent uploads the XML files to the OMS. Default value is 30 (minutes).
You can change this to something lower but be careful about flooding the network if you've decreased it. May be something like 15 minutes will work for you.

  • 2 errors in 10g agent

    Hope somebody can help :-)
Have one server with grid control installed 10g. Another server with rdbms 10g and in a seperate dirictory the 10g agent. Both sites are starting up, but in the agent trace file I can see following errors:
    a) 2004-02-18 14:58:21 Thread-5931014 WARN upload: FxferSend: received http error in header from repository: http://myHost:4889/em/upload/
    ERROR-400|ORA-01882: timezone region not found
I changed the timezone in emd.properties to CET (on both servers), but error still occurs
    b) 2004-02-18 15:00:48 Thread-6160390 ERROR fetchlets.oslinetok: Process stderr = ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied (DBD ERROR: OCISessionBegin)
I asume that he want to login to the local db on the agent server, question with which user (sysman or dbsnmp) ? and where to set the password (if not correct) in the agent config files.
    regards, Olaf

With try and error I solved the second problen (username password) also :-)
I found the targets.xml file and edited the tags UserName and password which contains encrypted values and set this values to dbsnmp and his password the attributes ENCRYPTED I set to FALSE. restarted the agent and the agent worked fine (he could login to the db) what he also did was to encrypt username and password in the targets.xml and set the attribute back to TRUE, so everything is fine and I can go home :-)

  • Oracle 9i and 10g Agents on one server

    Hello,
What are the conflicts if I installed 10g agent on the server that 9i agent already occupy. I want to use 9i and 10g OEM. Thank you in advance.

I dont believe you will have any issues. They are very different. The 10g agent goes in its own home and has its own binaries running against the db.

  • 10g agent Issue

10g agent was running properly, It's throwing error like
ERROR: Max Count Value not set properly in file /opt/oracle/10.2/agent10g/sysman/config/esa/database.properties
I dont know which value we have to set? And On GC databases are looking for single listener port that is 1521, but we have configured for diffrent ports..
    Any luck,??????????/

    Hi HG,
For the listener issues you can create a new listener as a target in GC with the correct ports and then decommission (remove) the offending target listener.

  • 10G agent in 9i target

    Hello,
Is any one tried to install the 10g agent in 9i targets. Will it work? I am little concern that the agent will mess up the existing installation. Even though the oracle home will be different I would like to get some advice from you all.
    Thanks in advance.
    Leo

    Friends,
Today I installed the 10g Agent in 9i target. Target is 9.2.0.7. It errored out during the configuration assistant process time. But I figured out that because it was looking a database which shutdown already. The profile SID is not correct.
I could be to log in to the 9i target after the installtion process and started managing it from 10g Grid. It works fine.
Thanks for everyone's contribution. It has been great help whoever contributed.
    Thank you everyone.

  • Problem with 10g agent

I installed 10g agent on server with 9i database. When agent just started then in Enterprise Manager Grid Control I saw database status (it's up) and some database statistics. It's OK. But after some time about 10 minutes I have got an email with message: Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-12538: TNS:no such protocol adapter (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach).
And status of my database in Grid control is changed to down. If I restart agent the situation is repeated.
    Why is it happens?
Also I set windows environment (ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN) to correct path and values.

    Hi
I am also facing the same issue but in a different flavor. Installed 10g on my Win2K and EM was working fine. Could create a dummy table and execute statements using iSQLPLUS. Later installed Oracle 9iDS on a different home. From then on EM isn't working. I get TNS-12538: no such protocol error. Verified the ORACLE_HOME registry and was pointing to 10g path.
Were you able to solve your issue? Can you pl. suggest your solution? I found similar issue elsewhere

  • What does Grid Control agent upload?

We recently shut down the agent for Grid Control and yet I still see data on the "top activity" page, both current and historical. If the agent isn't uploading this data what is? And what does the agent upload if not this data?

If my memory serves me correctly, the agent uploads monitoring metrics for long term. When you are viewing the target it connects directly to the database, hence why grid has to have connect descriptors for the databases beyond just the agent using them.

  • Is the EMGC 10g agent compatible with AIX5.2 Netware 5.1, Solaris 8 ......

We want to install the EMGC 10g agents on different platforms.
Are EMGC 10g release 3 agents compatable an installable on these platforms?:
    AIX 5.2
    AIX 5.3
    Netware 5.1
    Solaris 8
    Windows 2000 Server
    Windows 2003 Server
    Windows 2000 Professional
    Regards,
    Tim Abdoelhafiezkhan

Have you checked the OEM Downloads page?
For specific os, hardware and versions info, you should visit Certify within Metalink to find out whether your configurations are "ok" or not. (the OTN Certify backdoor does not go all the way for GC, the new "Grid Control Certification Checker" app still needs a valid login)
You may also find certification information in the 10.2 GC docu library, from the Installation and Basic Configuration book.
The platforms you are after might be supported, but you need to check, depending on the hardware (e.g. x86 or x64, SPARC or x86). However, Netware was "dropped" as one of the major supported platforms long ago. Even Novell suggests migration to SLES, which is supported for the 10.2.0.x Management Agent.

  • Configure 10g agent in ha environment

    Hi.
Tere is anyone that have been configured a 10g agent in High Availability environments?

Troy, your advice has been very valuable.
For those who will read this thread, here is the principle
    (host1)$ emctl deploy agent -n WhateverResourceName1 /u01/local/whatever1 logicalhost1:1831 physicalhostname1:1830
    (host1)$ emctl deploy agent -n WhateverResourceName2 /u01/local/whatever2 logicalhost2:1832 physicalhostname1:1830
    (host2)$ emctl deploy agent -n WhateverResourceName1 /u01/local/whatever1 logicalhost1:1831 physicalhostname2:1830
(host2)$ emctl deploy agent -n WhateverResourceName2 /u01/local/whatever2 logicalhost2:1832 physicalhostname2:1830then, simply start the resource agent with
    (host1)$ /u01/local/whatever1/bin/emctl start agent
(host2)$ /u01/local/whatever2/bin/emctl start agentThanks a million for having referenced this note. It is great!

  • OEM 10g Agent

    Hi,
I am running 3 apps in one server & 3 db's in another server.
Do I need 3 X 3 separate OEM 10g agent software to be installed on both server or 1 installation of agent home is enough to monitor these 3 dbs in single server?
If one agent is need to monitor all the 3 dbs then how to configure the single agent for all the 3 dbs & apps.
    Regards,
    Indraneel

Agent performs server level monitoring, so you don't need to install multiple agents to monitor multiple DBs on a single server.
how to configure the single agent for all the 3 dbs & apps.If you know how to configure for a single database, then this should not be a problem. Please refer documentation for this.

    S.K.

  • 10g Agent Memory utilization

    Hi
How can I determine the amount of memory the 10g Agent is using up on my database server ? Seems like , it is using up too much
    Thanks
    Shamik

    Hello,
I'm not sure whether you are talking about grid control's agents - if so, have a look at the agent's metrics, especially process statistics. There you'll find five metrics concerned with memory usage.
    Best regards
