10g AS Metadata Repository - recreate or rebuild?

I have been asked to restore an application server (AS 10g version 10.1.2.3) that had Infra & BI installed & running. I have a server backup tape that I can recover everything from except for the repository files (datafiles, controlfiles etc); for some reason the repository's directories were excluded form the server backups, and the repository was not backed up using RMan. So basically, I have an Apps server with a black hole where the repository should be.
Is it possible to restore what I have of the server & then create a new repository, pointing the Infra & BI to it? Or will I have to start from afresh, rebuilding the whole server?

Last that I checked, other than a few tables in the MR DB, they are all supposed to be Oracle internal use and not to be modified by users directly, hence the lack of documentation on what is stored where.
Does anyone know otherwise? It would be interesting to know how it works under the hood. Perhaps someone has done some study on their own?

• OAS 10g metadata repository creation assistant & database version issue

Hi,
I have to install Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 on a server which already has an Oracle database 11g running on it and I dont want to install another database due to the load factor. I am not sure if I could use that database
(version 11g) for the metadata repository. I know that we can use an existing database for the creation of metadata repository using the metadata creation assistant but I am a bit worried about the version of the database which is 11g whereas the application server and the metadata creation assistant both are 10.1.2.x.
Your help is highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Omer

MRCA 10.1.2.0.2 cannot be used to install a repository in an 11g database. If you want to use MRCA 10.1.2.0.2 with an 11g database, you will need to install a 10g database first, create the metadata repository and then upgrade the database to 11g. Not applicable in your environment as you already have a 11g database.

• 9i metadata repository be upgraded to 10g

Hi,
I hav a question from the customer, they are looking for migration from Oracle AS 10g Rel 1 (9041) to AS 10g Rel 2 (10.1.2.0.2) they wanted to know if they can upgrade 9i metadata repository to 10g in advance of moving their 10g AS Rel 1 environment to 10g AS Rel 2?

Yes, the repository in fact must be upgraded if you want to perform the complete AS upgrade. Upgrade from the 10gR1 to 10gR2 is pretty straight forward. You are required to perform metadata upgrade by means of the MRUA (Metadata Repository Upgrade Assistant) disk, if you don't have it you should download it from the otn download area.

• 10g - where are private connections stored in metadata repository

We use OAS 10.1.2.3 infrastructure and BI middle tier on Windows. SSO is enabled, and users are authenticated against OID. Users are allow to create private connections on their own. I would like to know: how can I query the private connections in OAS metadata repository? I would like to know the connection names and who created them.
Thanks a lot.
Hailie

Hi Hallie
Details about connections are held in this table: wwsso_psex_user_info$
That table can be found in the infrastructure database owned by this user: orasso
The column app_id has the following signifiance:
If app_id= '1325' then it's a private connection
If app_id= '1326' then it's a public connection
Best wishes

• Deregister metadata repository after Internet Directory deleted

I deinstalled Internet Directory before deregistering it from the metadata repository first. Now I want to re-install Internet Directory on the same repository but it says the repository has been registered to an Internet Direcory and doesn't allow me to do that. I cannot deregister or remove the metadata repository because it always asks for the host and port of the Internet Directory, which doesn't exist any more.
Do I need to reinstall the whole database? Anyone has the idea on how to remove the registration information from a metadata repository without referring an Internet Directory?
Thanks a lot.

I had the same issue and here is how I resolved it:
Logged in to the Metadata Repository as the SYS user. Drop user ODS with the cascade option. This will remove the information from the database. In order to rebuild the Metadata Repository, go to $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin. You should have a script called newldap.sql. Login to the DB as SYS and run this and this will recreate the parts that where removed therefore giving you a 'cleaned' Metadata Repository.
By the way, this is not recommended by Oracle!!!

• 9.0.4.1 Metadata Repository in 9.2.0.6

I just upgraded my 9iAS infrastructure and mid tier with BI and Forms from 9.0.2.3 to 9.0.4.2. We had all the components on one server except we had a separate 9.2 db for our portal repository.
I want to know how to migrate my metadata repository to a different server and use database version 9.2.0.6. Are there any documents or specofic sections of documents which could guide me in this migration?

I am not familiar with the document you refer to, but suspect you should apply the 9.0.4.2 patch if you want to integreate OCS with a 10g portal.
I have successfully integrated a 9iAS portal with R2 OCS (9.0.4.1), and the following details may be worth a closer look:
1. To my knowledge, the passwords for your portal user and SSO user (orasso) are encrypted and stored in OID based on the hostname and IP address of your SSO server. Thus, the password for orasso and portal will differ between your portal Infra and your OCS infra, resulting in that only one of the two will work properly with your common OID. run the attached script on both your SSO servers and compare the result:
#!/bin/ksh
OIDHOST=antares1.i2sp.no
OIDPORT=4032
echo "Enter the desired Oracle schema name (default orasso): \c"
READ DBUSERNAME
if [[ -z $DBUSERNAME ]]; then
echo "No schema value entered, using default:orasso"
DBUSERNAME=orasso
fi8
echo "Enter the password of the cn=orcladmin user (usually the ias installation password): \c"
stty -echo
read OIDPW
ty echo
echo "Looking up schema password from $OIDHOST:$OIDPORT"
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/ldapsearch -h $OIDHOST -p $OIDPORT -D "cn=orcladmin" -w "$OIDPW" -b "cn=IAS Infrastructure Databases,cn=IAS,cn=Products,cn=OracleContext" -s sub "orclResourceName=$DBUSERNAME" orclpasswordattribute
Setting the password for orasso and portal to the same encrypted string is a good start. If they differ, change to the same encrypted string using "alter user orasso identified by xxxxxx" in sqlplus.
Hope this will help you on the way :-)

• Applying 10.1.2.3 Metadata Repository update in 10.1.4.3 distributed IDM

Hi there, I seem to have a unique issue.
I have the following config of 10.1.4.3 IDM :
SSO in a separate Oracle home
OID in a separate Oracle home
DB (10.2.0.50) in a separte OH and metadata repository installed in this DB
and this is set up in ASR replication mode with other similer setup.
Task : Apply 10.1.2.3 OracleAS patchset.
The story:
To be fully compliant according to Orcale we ned to apply 10.1.2.3 patch. This patch has two components - a software update and a Metadata Repository (MR) update.
I have applied software update to all the Oracle homes above (with the exception of DB ofcourse).
But to apply MR update I have to do it from a mid-tier OH that also has MR installed, I have none.
I tried installing MR update from SSO and OID oracle home but it would not allow me , I got this message :
The Metadata Repository Update cannot be run from the selected ORACLE_HOME.
The Update must be run from either an Identity Management with Metadata
Repository installation ...
But we have no middle-tier using this MR, and from this metalik note, it seems applying MR update is not mandatory, only a desirable housekeeping execrcise . :
Understanding How AS 10g Patch Sets Update the AS Metadata Repository [ID 795143.1]
Exract from that note :
a. apply the binary update to each AS Oracle Home in the AS Farm.
b. finally, if possible apply the MR update exactly once from any home that allows it to be run.
also from the same note :
Scenario 6: Applying the 10.1.2.3 AS patch set to a 10.1.4.3 Identity Management home.
The 10.1.2.3 AS patch set is a required patch set, as documented in :
Note: 465847.1 Oracle Identity Management 10g (10.1.4.0.1) Release Notes Addendum.
In this case, the MR Product schemas will not be directly accessed. It is however good practice/ housekeeping to apply the MR update in order to keep the MR in line with the binary patch sets.
My question :
I am correct in my understanding that apply 10.1.2.3 software update only is neccessary, applying the MR update is only desirable house keeping and not mandatory ?
Would you say this is the correct assessment. if not how would you go about applying the MR update ?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

• Is 10.1.4.3 Metadata Repository Certified With 10.1.4.1 IM installation?

We have IM 10.1.4.3 and OracleAS 10g R2 10.1.2.3 on RedHat 4.6 with non-colocated metadata repository.
Plan is to upgrade RedHat to newest version 5.5. RedHat does not support upgrade with major version and Oracle said that OS vendor is responsible for package compatibility and there is no need for relink Oracle software.
So, only solution is to do fresh install OS, IM and OracleAS.
My question: is it possible to install IM 10.1.4.1 against higher version of metadata repository? Is there any workaround?
tnx in advance
Matej

"# Error: Already exists" suggests that schema at AD side is already extended. You mentioned that automatic schema upload process stopped abruptly. There is likely chance that AD schema might be extended partially or fully.
2nd thing is you can apply BP05 patch once you have identity server running. BP05 does not need to be applied before.
Also there is option to manually extend schema directly in AD. There is one folder in installation directory which has .ldif files with schema objectclasses.
At the start of identity server , it is not able to find the configuration DN & seach base to read configuration data , therefore it is failing.
You have two options here: 1. Reinstall 2. Manually extend schema and then install identity server.
You can refer to Atul's blog : » OAM 10.1.4.3 Installation Part II – Indentity Server Installation Online Apps DBA: One Stop Shop…

Hi,
Found out from Oracle that the "oracle/sysman/oii/oiio/oiiol/OiiolTextLogger" class is in the $ORACLE_HOME/oui/jlib/OraInstaller.jar file and as per their suggestion added the jar file to the $classpath list of jar files in the mrua.pl script. • How to login to Metadata Repository

Hi All,
I run the select statement (app_registry table) to find my database server has Metadata Repository in it.
Select * from app_registry where comp_id = 'MRC'
Database Server - Oracle 10g hosted on Unix Server.
How do I login to my Metadata Repository and what are all the important parameters like memory values and where are they located?
Regards,
Balaji A

You can login to metadata repository, this is only a gropu of Schemas (or users) that have some items or objects that make some tasks, and finally all the info generated is stored in this database.
You may have the structure of the repository, but if you dont have a user such as oc4jadmin, sysadmin, orcladmin, orabpel, or so on, that creates all the objects using a MRCA or IRCA you wont have a fully workin repository .

• Problems Installing Oracle Metadata Repository into Existing Database

Folks,
I'm slowly going through the process of installing the Metadata Repository into a 10g database, using RepCA I've managed to determine all the DB parameters required for setting etc. The only thing RepCA now reports is missing is the Ultrasearch schema & packages.

Hi guys,
I have used copy of that package from Oracle Identity Management installation, version 10.1.4.0.1 and have been able to complete manual Ultra Search installation. It's valid in dba_registry. After that I did run RepCA and metadata schemas have been created successfully in existing database, version 10.2.0.2. Be careful about database version, only 10.2.0.2 is certified with Oracle Identity management, so you need to run patch for upgrade to 10.2.0.2.
Hope this helps.

• OracleAS Metadata Repository

Hi Everyone,
I inherited a system that is currently OAS 10.1.2.2 and looking into applying 10.1.2.3 patchset. I am reading about applying the 10.1.2.3 metadata Repository update. I was wondering if there is a way to determine if 10.1.2.2 metadata Repository update has been applied? I tried ldapsearch command but it returns nothing. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Troy

You may wanna note that,
- This patchset 3 10.1.2.3 does not require portal 10.1.4. This patch set brings up your OAS components to 10.1.2.3 version from 10.1.2.0.2 level.
- For those who are using portal 10.1.2.0.2 version, this patch set upgrades it to 10.1.2.3 as well - when they apply it on the portal repository.
- For those users whose portal version is 10.1.4.0.0, it upgrades it to 10.1.4.2 version - when they apply it on its portal repository.
- Metadata Repository upgrade is required in each case.
- It has been a standard practice from Oracle Support to ask you to upgrade to the latest supported version of that release number - for almost all of your problems. For 10g Release 2, 10123 and for portal 10142 are the latest supported versions which you get after this upgrade.
Therefore, for all of your problems regarding any component on your OAS or on portal, Oracle Support would recommend highly to first get up to the latest supported version. Then they will recommend individual patches or fixes on top of it.
hope that helps!

Good question, rozester.
I encountered this problem also, while trying to install the SSO MRCA 10.1.4.3.1 on 64-bit RHEL5 (though it's at version 5.7 but I'm positive that won't make any difference to the result).
This may or may not match your situation, but when I looked in the log file $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/repca/log/repca_<datestamp>.log, I saw what was probably the reason behind the error:
<$ORACLE_HOME>/bin/sqlplus: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.9.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I think I remember seeing that the link operation during installation had failed, but I hoped it would be OK. And it possibly would have been, if I'd remembered to specify the destination database Oracle home rather than the SSO MRCA Oracle home when prompted (on the page where it asks for database home and log file path). Perhaps then it would have used the sqlplus binary from the database oracle home, and since that one definitely works, it might have worked. But before I thought of that, I did a workaround; I installed the SSO MRCA on a 32-bit RHEL5 box (using the same directory paths) and copied the shared library files to the 64-bit box's shared library directory via scp as follows:
cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib; scp -pr * oracle@rhel64box:$PWD/
When I re-ran $ORACLE_HOME/runRepca, it then worked without error. Another thing I could have tried is just running runRepca on the 32-bit RHEL5 box, and that probably would have worked too, but it probably would have been a lot slower compared to running it locally on the destination server; it's takes quite a while as it is.
Hope this helps. I'm sure it'll help me if next time I do this I forget what I did before and go searching again ;-)
