Can I run a 9.2.0.5 RAC Database with GSD and a 10.2 Database with CRS on the same cluster ?

1.) Yes this is o.k. Just see this MoS Note:
Pre 11.2 Database Issues in 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure Environment (Doc ID 948456.1)
2.) Well first only clusterware is upgraded. You will be asked if you want to upgrad ASM, but this is not mandatory at first.
You can use ASMCA later to switch ASM from 10.2 to 11.2 (this does not have to be done during upgrade).
3.) No you can only have 1 ASM running. So it is either 11.2 or 10.2 ASM. (However I suggest 11.2).
However you can/should have multiple diskgroups. One data and fra for the 11.2 databases where you set the rdbms.compatibility to 11.2 to use the new features, and one data an fra diskgroup for the 10.2 databases.
4.) As long as the compatibility setting of a diskgroup isn't changed, you can always switch ASM back to use 10.2 executables. (Just do a srvctl remove asm and add ASM).

5.) Mandatory are just 3 additional IPs for the SCAN.

Oracle 10g - architechture and compatibility

I want to know that
- Whether Oracle 10g support 2 tier Architecture Or it is strictly for 3 tier.
- If it doesnt support 2 tier then, is Oracle 9i is the latest version for 2 tier system.
- If Oracle 10g supports 2 tier then ,Is Developer 200 version 5.6 is compatible with Oracle 10g. ?
Please response my query, as I have to take some urgent decisions based on this asap.

If Oracle 10g means Database server 10g, then it's independent from Client Architecture ( 2 or 3 tiers refers to Client Architecture), you can use the same DB with both architectures simultaneously.
Is Developer 200 version 5.6 is compatible with Oracle 10g. ?
In Metalink Note:207303.1 you can see the official Client / Server / Interoperability support between different Oracle versions, but I have to say that I've already used unsupported combinations, e.g. 8.0.6 Client with 10g DB, and they may work, so the best thing would be to try.....

Can we have separate 10gR2 RAC CRS and 11gR2 RAC CRS homes on same Unix s

We'd like to test the upgrade of our 10gR2 RAC databases to 11gR2 RAC.
We have six databases on the same server and want to install a separate 11g RAC stack (11g CRS, 11g ASM, 11g RDBMS) and upgrade each 10g database from 10g RAC stack on same server (10g CRS, 10g ASM, 10g RDBMS) . Is it ok to have 10g CRS home and 11g CRS home same server? If not, how best to upgrade without buying more hardware?

In more detail, the main issue/question is whether there can be 2 Oracle CRS homes on the same server i.e. separate 10gR2 and 11gR2 CRS homes residing on the same server for the purposes of (gradually) upgrading all Oracle RDBMS homes from 10g RAC to 11g RAC.
Can there be? What would be the implications for the OCR and voting disk? In our case 10g CRS has OCR and Voting Disk on raw devices. In 11gR2, these would need to be migrated/upgraded/stored in ASM, right?
We have 6 10g rdbms homes in addition to the one 10g CRS home and one 10g ASM home. To upgrade can we
- Install 11gR2 CRS in a separate home (this would now include ASM as well)
- Install 11gR2 RDBMS home
- Upgrade one of the 6 10g databases while leaving the others untouched as 10g databases in the separate 10g CRS, 10g ASM stack?
Any ideas, pointers greatly appreciated.

10g CRS installation doesnt pickup Private interface

We upgraded a 10g CRS to 11g CRS few months back and due to multiple reasons we had to go back to 10g CRS.
Unfortunately, we dont have the 10g CRS filesystem and any of the backups since it was done few month back.
We cleaned up the 11g CRS on all nodes with below steps
Case 2: "root.sh" already ran, then follow the step below - please keep in mind that you will need wait till each step finishes successfully before move to next one:
Step 1: As root, run "/ora_grid/product/v11.2.0.2/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -verbose -deconfig -force" on all node, except the last one.
Step 2: As root, run "/ora_grid/product/v11.2.0.2/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -verbose -deconfig -force -lastnode" on last node. This command will zero out OCR and VD disk also.
Step 3: As grid user, run "/ora_grid/product/v11.2.0.2/grid/deinstall/deinstall" on any node.
Rebooted the servers and started the installation.
During the "Sopecify Network INterface Usage" screen, it is displaying only the public interface name ( en0 ) and not the private. Can you please advise what could be the reason behind this.

10g CRS is rather old now. I assume you're talking about 10.2.0.1? I vaguely recollect problems like that with 10.2.0.1 CRS. There were many: problems with multhipath, problems with initializing disks on RH 5.x. One of the possible problems is if your public interface is in the private range (192.168.x.x). Are both interfaces plumbed? What is the output of /sbin/ifconfig -a?
Other than that, I recommend installing 10G database on top of 11.2.0.3 grid. It is supported, you can install 11.2.0.3 CRS and then install 10G database to use that CRS. Do you need just 10G database or does everything need to be 10g? 10.2.0.1 is an ancient version, there are many problems with RH 5.x. There is no need to use 10G CRS, 11G will support 10.2. databases without a problem.

Patching Strategy for CRS and ASM homes

I'm fairly new to RAC/ASM and haven't performed any patch set upgrades yet. Back in the simple days when I wanted to apply a patch set to a database, say from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5, I would create a brand new Oracle home ahead of time and apply the patch set to it. I'd name my homes like this:
/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.4/db1
/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.5/db1
During the maintenance window I would change /etc/oratab to point the database to the new 10.2.0.5 and complete the database upgrade scripts. The advantages of this strategy:
1 - Less risk installing software as nothing uses the new home yet. If something goes wrong in the install, no big deal. Research the problem and try again without being under the stress of a defined maintenance window.
2 - No need to backup old home for back-out purposes.
3 - Less time required for database to be down during actual patch window since Oracle Installer does not need to run.
Now with CRS and ASM, is there a way to pre-stage a new home for those, but not have them "active" to the node until later during the maintenance window?
For ASM, it seems like it would be possible to treat the same way as database and simply update ASM SID in /etc/oratab
+ASM1:/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0.5/asm1
but I'm not totally confident in that as I'm afraid the CRS home may already have references to the ASM home in the cluster registry.
For CRS, it seems like the home is pretty well hard-wired into the node startup scripts and installing a brand new CRS home will probably disrupt the running CRS home.
Any thoughts about this?

Starting with 11.2 for Grid Infrastructure only "out-of-place" patchset upgrades are supported.

Any thoughts about this?As of 11gR2 the ASM is part of the Grid Infrastructure, therefore it is running from the same home and not recommended to separate them. (although you can do that)
By the way, what is your upgrade path? It could be easier to answer your questions if we knew that as there has been a quite a few enhancements and changes in the upgrade/patching process from 10g to 11g. (even between 11gR1 and 11gR2)

10G RAC설치를 위해서는 다음과 같은 절차를 밟아야 한다.
1) CRS 설치 및 구성 [Cluster Ready Services]
2) RAC의 설치 및 구성
3) VIPCA [Virtual IP Configuration Assistant]를 사용한 VIP의 구성
3. 가정
저장 공간으로 공유 디스크를 갖춘 (CFS or RAWDEVICE) 2개의 리눅스 노드.
OH=ORACLE_HOME 오라클을 설치하고자 하는 디렉토리 예: /project/linux/10/rac/10B2/RAC
CRSHOME=CRS_HOME CRS를 설치하고자 하는 디렉토리 예: /project/linux/10/rac/10B2/CRS
OB=ORACLE_BASE 예: /project/linux/10/rac/10B2
OB는 다른 위치이어야만 한다.
CRS는 RAC의 기본 콤포넌트이다. (특히 리눅스 환경에서는 필수 요소) 따라서, CRS 설치 관련 이슈를 이 문서에

4. 선행조건
노드 N1와 N2에서 ssh가 동작되는지 확인한다.
예를 들어, N2에서 ssh N1을 실행하면, passwd 확인 없이 N2에 연결되어야 한다.
다음 4가지 조합을 모두 테스트 해 본다.
예. N1 -> N1
N1 -> N2
N2 -> N1
N2 -> N2
백업 목적으로 /etc/inittab 파일을 /etc/inittab.orig 으로 복사해 둔다.
5. 상세 내역
1) 설치 원본을 포함한 디스크의 CRS shiphome에서 runinstaller를 실행시킨다.
./runInstaller -invPtrLoc $OB/invptr.loc
2) orainventory를 확인하는 화면에서 새로운 위치를 다음과 같이 지정한다 .
$OB/oraInventory.
참고: 10G RAC 설치시, orainventory는 CRS 및 RAC 설치시 공유된다. 따라서, RAC 설치시에도
동일한 인벤토리를 지정하도록 한다.
3) 클러스터를 구성하는 노드 명을 확인하는 화면이 나타난다.
적절한 값을 입력한다. public node name 필드에 입력을 하기 위해서는, 명령행에서
/bin/hostname을 실행시키고 명령 실행 결과에따라 나타나는 nodename을 입력해 public nodelist entry
값을 채운다.
적절한 private node name을 찾기위해서는 유사한 절차를 거쳐, private node name entry 값을 채운다.
값이 정말 올바른지 확인 하기 위해 마지막으로 다음과 같은 명령을 실행시킨다.
% ping <private node name>
노드가 존재한다면, 명령 실행 결과를 통해 확인할 수 있다.
또한 결과 값을 /sbin/ifconfig -a 명령과 비교해 본다.
/etc/hosts가 public nodename 및 private nodename을 둘다 포함하고 있는지를 확인한다.
4) 다음 화면은 ocr device entry값을 묻는 화면이다.
여기서는, 두 노드에서 모두 접근 가능한 공유 디스크상의 파일을 입력한다.
예 : /ocfs/OCR/ocr.disk 또는 /dev/rawocr [rawdevices 가 존재하고, 올바로 구성되어야 함]
만약 이 파일이 존재한다면, 올바른 권한이 설정되어 있으며, 어떤 데이터도 포함하지 않고 있는지 여부를
확인 하여야 한다.
OCR을 위해 깨끗한 디스크를 사용하는 지 여부를 확인하기 위해 다음과 같은 명령을 실행시킨다.
dd if=/dev/zero of=<ocr device name> bs=<X> count=1000
여기서 X 는 1232896 값으로 지정한다 (1024 * 1024)
이 entry는 이후 root.sh를 실행시킬 때 공통의 OCR 위치에 ( 예 /var/opt/oracle/srvConfig.loc )
저장되다는 점에 유의해야 한다.
만약 /var/opt/oracle/srvConfig.loc 파일이 이미 존재한다면, ocr 디바이스를 묻는 화면이 나타나지
않는다. 이 경우 동일한 OCR 파일이 9i 설치시 사용되었다면 먼저 디바이스를 백업 해야 한다.
동일 클러스트에 9i를 설치했고, 10G CRS를 설치할 계획이라면,ocr 내용은, 자동으로 9i에서 10G 포맷으로
업그레이드 된다.
5) 다음 화면에서는 voting device entry 입력을 요청한다. step 4에서 설명한 방식 처럼 비슷한 device를
저정한다. 예: /ocfs/Voting/voting.disk. 이것은, ocssd daemon에 의해 사용된다.
유의해야 할 점은, 4단계 및 5단계에서 입력하는 내용이 파일이지 디렉토리가 아니라는 점이다.
만약 파일이 존재한다면, owner와 root에 read write 권한이 있어야 한다.
이 entry로 CRS 설치가 시작되고, 어느정도 설치 된 시점에서 root.sh을 root 권한으로 실행 시킬 것을
요청하게 된다. root.sh은 Cluster Ready Services를 구성하고 구동시킨다. 클러스터에 속하는 모든 노드에서
root.sh을 실행 시켜야 한다.
6. Root.sh
root.sh의 실행.
이 스크립트는 2 단계에서 CRS를 구동시킨다. 처음에는 CRS를 테스트 목적으로 일반 사용자 권한으로 구동시킨다.
만약 정상으로 실행된다면, 적절한 entry 값이 시스템 디렉토리에 추가 된 후, CRS가, /etc/inittab을 통해
적절하게 구동된다. 이 단계에서는, crsd가 root 프로세스로 구동되는 반면 다른 두개의 데몬 (evmd, ocssd)는
일반 사용자 프로세스로 기동된다. 이 단계에서 css가 실패할 경우 시스템은, 리부팅된다.
리부팅을 방지하기 위해서는, 위에서 언급한 1단계 절차를 거치도록 한다.
유의해야 할 또다른 사항은, CRS를 성공적으로 구동 시킨 이후, 다른 이유로 인해 CSS 데몬이 죽을 경우,
노드가 리부팅 된다는 것이다. 이것 또한 1단계에 기술된 내용이 적절하게 수행되지 않을 경우 그럴 수 있다.
정상적으로 수행되었을 경우, CRS는 자동으로 다시 살아나게 된다.
7. Troubleshooting tips
만약 시스템에서 처음으로 CRS 서비스를 구동 시키는 것 이라면, 모든 서비스가 정상적으로 구동될 지 여부를
알 수 없다. 설정상의 이유로 css가 실패할 경우, 시스템에 리부팅이 된다는 점을 유념해야 한다.
이와 같은 상황을 예방하기 위해서는, 다음과 같은 절차를 거쳐야 한다.
1) $CRSHOME/css/admin/init.cssd 파일에서 $FAST_REBOOT을 포함하는 라인을 주석처리 한다. 이 작업을
양쪽 노드에서 수행한다.
2) root.sh 실행이 실패할 경우, 로그파일을 확인하여, 문제 추적을 할 수 있다.
CRS는 다음과 같이 3개의 데몬으로 구성되어 있다.
a> cssd
b> evmd
c> crsd
각 데몬의 로그 파일은, $CRSHOME/<daemon name>/log/ 디렉토리에 기록된다. 로그 파일의 내용은, 대부분
문제가 발생한 원인을 밝혀 내는데 도움이 될 만한 정보를 포함하고 있다.
만약, 로그 파일을 분석하여 문제를 해결하고 root.sh를 다시 실행 시켜야 할 경우에는, 다음과 같이 한다.
- 위에서 말한 데몬들이 모두 죽어 있는지 확인한다. 만약 살아 있는 프로세스가 있다면 kill 시켜야한다.
- 흔히 발생하는 실수는, 데몬의 목록을 확인하는 다음 명령을 실행 시키는 것이다.
ps -eaf | grep ocssd
위 명령은, CRS 데몬의 이름을 포함하지 않으므로, 데몬이 모두 죽어 있다고 착각하기 쉽다.
대신 다음과 같은 명령을 통해 확인 해야 한다.
ps -elf | grep ocssd or
ps -efww | grep ocssd
프로세스를 kill 시킨 후에는, $CRSHOME/<daemon_name>/init/ 디렉토리 내의 파일을 삭제한다.
또한, ocr device가 CRS를 재 구동할 때 마다 적절하게 clean up 되었는지 여부를 확인 해야 한다.
ocr device를 clean out 시키기 위해서는, 위에서 언급한 4단계 작업을 수행하면 된다.
그리고 나서, 문제가 발생된 모든 원인을 해소했는지 여부를 확인 한 후 root.sh를 실행시킨다.
3) root.sh이 성공적으로 실행되면 - 예를 들어 CRS 데몬이 노드 1에 성공적으로 구동되면, root.sh을 나머지 노드에서도 실행시킨다.
8. CRS 서비스를 중단 시키는 절차.
CRS와 RAC가 설치되어 운영중일 경우, CRS 서비스를 중단 시켜야 할 때 다음과 같은 절차를 따른다.
1) /etc/inittab.orig 파일을 /etc/inittab 으로 복사한다. (/etc/inittab.orig 파일은 앞에서 기술한 선행 조건에서
복사한 파일을 말함.
2) 서비스 중인 CRS와 연관된 자원이 있을 경우, 해당 애플리케이션을 모두 중단시킨다. 다음은 관련된 명령이다.
$RACHOME/bin/srvctl stop instance -i <instance name> -d <dbname>
$RACHOME/bin/srvctl stop nodeapps -n <N1>
$RACHOME/bin/srvctl stop nodeapps -n <N2>
3) root 계정에서 다음과 명령을 실행시킨다. /sbin/init q
4) /etc/init.d/init.crs stop
만약 위 절차를 따르지 않고 CRS 데몬을 kill 시킬 경우, 데몬이 계속해서 다시 살아나게 될 것이다.

Portability between Designer 9i r2 and Designer 10g r2, and deployment?

I have some questions to ask...
I have been given the job of adding Oracle to the reportoire of databases available to be used for a commercial Delphi application. The idea is to create a database in 10g that this application can talk to.
I wish to develop the database, constraints and triggers etc using Oracle Designer (not because I think it's best, but simply I know how to use it, and don't know JDeveloper yet, and time is of the essence).
Here's where the problem lies: The last application I developed was on 9i r2 and was going to a 9i r2 platform, and I generated DDL for the database tables stuff, and also for the table API, ending up with two sets of script files to run on the target system. Two of the lines of code in the table API script were:
@ C:\oracle\9iDSHome\cgens72\sql\cdsaper.PKS
@ C:\oracle\9iDSHome\cgens72\sql\cdsaper.PKB
Of course the pathnames weren't right, but when I fixed them I managed to get the system installed correctly. However the clients for the application I am working on now should not have to have developer installed... I want them to be able to just run the script files into a 10g database and not worry about designer/developer at all.
The other issue is just as serious. Although clients shouldn't have to have designer installed, I want the application developer/company owner to be able to fiddle with the designer if he wants to. I have 9i where I work, and he will have 10g. Will I be able to do a repository export/dump from my 9i r2 and import it to his 10g r2? With the previous project I did, I couldn't even import the designer export from my 9i r2 to the 9i r2 at the workplace... it said "Incorrect header file" - it was lucky I had the DDL script files or I would never have got it in the database at all! If they had had a different version of oracle then I don't know what would have happened when trying to run those package files from developer (the comments say something about an error package or some such)!
Eventually I'm going to upgrade to 10g for database development but I don't want to just yet.
So my questions are:
1. Can I develop the system using 9i r2 DB and 9i r2 DS and then create DDL scripts to be run on 10g client databases without having to have developer installed on the client machines? could my "boss" distribute those two developer package files with the DDL scripts to the clients without breaking some kind of copyright?
2. Will I be able to import a Designer 9i r2 export into a Designer 10g r2 repository for my "boss" to make adjustments and produce refined DDL scripts himself later on?
If the only thing holding me back is having 10g installed where I work then tell me now and I'll take the plunge. If there's other issues I need to find a way around them.

Hi,
This issue has been reported with Designer Releases prior to 9.0.4.4 against 10g database.
Please upgrade to the latest Designer Release 9.0.4.5 the import will work fine.

I am new in oracle and I installed both Oracle 10g XE and after Oracle 8.17 Standard with Apache server. Does anybody know why Oracle 10g XE doesn't start (doesn't find APEX) when Oracle 8.17 is running on the same computer?

You can not use XE parallel with another Oracle instance. Only one instance per network.

Error to connect oracle 10g client and designer BO 4.0

I created an ODBC connection to function in the administration tools of data sources but I can not connect once in designer.
I tried using the driver directly oracle designer 10 but I have the same error that is this:

so it looks like that your TNSNAMES.ORA file isn`t properly configured. Thats why you can connect with the IDT to your Oracle Database.
Your DBA`s should sent you the correct TNSNAMES.ORA file or the entry for your DB prior. After the tnsping works, you will be able to use the IDT properly.

11g CRS and ASM, 10.2.0.4 database, how to set up RMAN

Hi all, I am fairly green when it comes to RAC so please bear with me. I have a Linux 2 node RAC environment. The servers are lux148 and lux149. The 2 node cluster is running 11g CRS and ASM. The database is 10.2.0.4. It had to be set up this way in order for IBM DataStage to work. The database name is fictrp0. The instances are fictrp01 (lux148) and fictrp02 (lux149). I am trying to register the database with an RMAN catalog. I am under the impression that I need to register the database (fictrp0) not the instances (fictrp01 and fictrp02) with the RMAN catalog. Is this correct? So I log into lux148 and set my environment so the ORACLE_SID=FICTRP0. From the command line I issue the following:
fictrp0:/u01/app/oracle> rman target / catalog rman102/[email protected]
The command returns the following:

Is this normal "connected to target database (not started)"? I was expecting to see a DBID=FICTRP0 for the target. If this is typical, how will RMAN know the ID of the database? Should I be trying to register an instance perhaps such as FICTRP01? If so do I need to register both instances (FICTRP01 and FICTRP02)?
Bottom line I am very confused on how RAC and RMAN work together. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You no need to register the instance,You need to register only the database and database only will have DBID

While using Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on one machine I save (saves as .fcp) and now when I try to open the same file to continue editing, on a machine running Yosemite, and FCE 4 it gives an error message saying "This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut". I have worked this way before (not ideal), I am wondering if the 4.0.1 update is still available and if so where?
Any Help would be great.

Integrate OBIEE 10g/11g and APEX 4.2

We are trying to integrate OBIEE 10g/11g and APEX 4.2. We would like to open report and a form in OBIEE so that users can update/writeback the data from OBIEE. Is there a way we can do this ? Please advice.

Oracle 10g CRS autorecovery from network failures - Solaris with IPMP

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has experience with a setup similar to mine. Let me first apologise for the lengthy introduction that follows >.<
A quick run-down of my implementation: Sun SPARC Solaris 10, Oracle CRS, ASM and RAC database patched to version 10.2.0.4 respectively, no third-party cluster software used for a 2-node cluster. Additionally, the SAN storage is attached directly with fiber cable to both servers, and the CRS files (OCR, voting disks) are always visible to the servers, there is no switch/hub between the server and the storage. There is IPMP configured for both the public and interconnect network devices. When performing the usual failover tests for IPMP, both the OS logs and the CRS logs show a failure detected, and a failover to the surviving network interface (on both the public and the private network devices).
For the private interconnect, when both of the network devices are disabled (by manually disconnecting the network cables), this results in the 2nd node rebooting, and the CRS process starting, but unable to synchronize with the 1st node (which is running fine the whole time). Further, when I look at the CRS logs, it is able to correctly identify all the OCR files and voting disks. When the network connectivity is restored, both the OS and CRS logs reflect this connection has been repaired. However, the CRS logs at this point still state that node 1 (which is running fine) is down, and the 2nd node attempts to join the cluster as the master node. When I manually run the 'crsctl stop crs' and 'crsctl start crs' commands, this results in a message stating that the node is going to be rebooted to ensure cluster integrity, and the 2nd node reboots, starts the CRS daemons again at startup, and joins the cluster normally.
For the public network, when the 2nd node is manually disconnected, the VIP is seen to not failover, and any attempts to connect to this node via the VIP result in a timeout. When connectivity is restored, as expected the OS and CRS logs acknowledge the recovery, and the VIP for node 2 automatically fails over, but the listener goes down as well. Using the 'srvctl start listener' command brings it up again, and everything is fine. During this whole process, the database instance runs fine on both nodes.
From the case studies above, I can see that the network failures are detected by the Oracle Clusterware, and a simple command run once this failure is repaired restores full functionality to the RAC database. However, is there anyway to automate this recovery, for the 2 cases stated above, so that there is no need for manual intervention by the DBAs? I was able to test case 2 (public network) with the Oracle document 805969.1 (VIP does not relocate back to the original node after public network problem is resolved), is there a similar workaround for the interconnect?
Any and all pointers would be appreciated, and again, sorry for the lengthy post.
