10g database fails to start after 3rd reboot

Hi,
I've reloaded my test server several times and loaded 10g with the default "orcl" database. Works just fine, reboot a couple times and it still works. Around the 3rd reboot the database instance fails to start. I even have to reload the OS to clear this problem. Just uninstalling Oracle and reinstalling will not clear this problem I have to reload the OS. Is there some sort of limit on the software we download from the OTN download area?
Thanks.

I found in another post that suggested I needed to update my listener.ora file. I did that and the error went to telling me that oracle was unavailable. Then I found a post that suggested this:
Set oracle_sid=orcl
SQLPLUS /NOLOG
CONN SYS/????@orcl AS SYSDBA
STARTUP
EXIT
Ran this and sure enough, the database was ok but sitting idle. It went through some initialization steps and mounted so I can now launch the manager tool and have access to my database.
So, ok, this is running on VMware and that "might" be causing the problems but this is very strange since it survived three reboots then out of the blue this issue comes up. I can live with running a batch file everytime I reboot in my little test environment so I'm ok :]
Thanks for your time.

  • OC4J_BI_Forms Fails To Start After Windows Reboot

    Hi,
After upgrading the metadata repository database to 9.2.0.6 and updating the compatible parameter and creating a new pfile, my OC4J_BI_Forms server fails to start automatically after a reboot.
I can start the OC4J_BI_Forms server manually and it works fine, but would like it to start automatically after a reboot like it used to.
I checked the server.xml file and verified autostart is set to true.
I also checked the server's log files and opmn log files, but couldn't find any error messages saying OC4J tried to start and failed.
I noticed that OID is taking a little longer to start than it used to. Is it possible this lag is causing the OC4J_BI_Forms to fail starting automatically?
All other servers start fine after a reboot - only OC4J_BI_Forms is not working correctly.
    Thanks,
    Jim

<p>As a workaround for this problem, I created a simple batch file containing the command:</p>
    <p><tt>d:\orahome2\opmn\bin\opmnctl startproc ias-component=OC4J</tt></p>
<p>I then created a scheduled task in Windows Task Scheduler to run the batch file on server startup. So far it seems to work fine.</p>

  • OracleAS 10g Infrastructure fails to start after reboot.

    Hi,
I have installed OracleAS 10g Infrastructure. Whenever I restart my machine I get the opmn.exe error messages and it don't go away. The components are also down. The other thing is that the memory usage behaviour of "opmn.exe" is strange. It is utilizing 100% cpu and the memory taken is 1.36 Gb. I have to stop and restart it.
Actually I want to install "Portal" component on it and I am stucked by this problem in Infrastructure.

  • Multiple Oracle Homes - Oracle Listener failes to start after installation

Just in case the listener fails to start after an oracle installation, please check the oracle ports in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, both of which are present in the following directory:
    ...\oracle\<SID>\<Ver>\NETWORK\ADMIN
All installations should have separate listener ports eg. If the first installation has port 1527, the next one should be 1528 and so on..
If they do not, manually change the ports and start the listeners.
Also check SAP Note 98252. Although I didn't find it necessary (I think it applies only if you have a single listener for all oracle homes), it did give me an idea that there some config problem in the .ora files.

  • ColdFusion 8 Fails to start after update Java for Mac OSX 10.5 Update 4

I have been using ColdFusion on a Mac for years. Now CF fails to start after I updated Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4. I usually start by typing in the terminal window sudo /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin/ColdFusion start.
There is a crash report but I don't know how to read it. See attached.
Please help, I need this working for my job.
    Thanks...Colin

    Dear Craig,
Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM
I'm sure that this is 64-bit
    CF 8.0.1 Enterprise Build 3080
I had moved the Java SE 6 to the top in both Plugin and Applications. The
correct version is showing in the terminal window. See below.
Last login: Thu Jun 18 11:27:09 on ttys001
    Beta-4:~ Colin$ java -version
    java version "1.6.0_13"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03-211)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.3-b02-83, mixed mode)
    Beta-4:~ Colin$
CF will not start. I have the activity monitor open, and when I start CF you
see it in the activity monitor for a few seconds as it starts up. When the
message process is completed in the terminal window CF disappears in the
    activity monitor.
    Any suggestions?
    C
    Hi, Colin,
My apologies but I forgot to ask 2 questions: (1) What kind of Mac you have
(Intel or PowerPC)? (2) What version of CF are you running and what installer
    did you choose (8 or 8.0.1, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.)?
    To start, try the following:
    1. Normally you'd shut CF down first ... but that's not necessary for you
    2. Open Java Preferences again
    3. Select Java SE 6 and move it (drag) to the top spot in both section (Applet
    Plugin and Applications)
    4. Open Terminal
    5. Type java -version (you should see 1.6.0_13 as the new version)
    6. Try to start CF again
This may not work (I've had issues with it) but it's technically how it's
supposed to work. With the Java Preferences utility, you're visually setting a
default JVM (you can do it with commands in Terminal but this is much faster
    and easier).
If CF still won't start, look for the jvm.config file in your CF application
    folder (try /Applications/ColdFusion8/bin or
    /Applications/ColdFusion8/runtime/bin -- the latter is where a jvm.config file
is on my machine for a particular version of CF that's installed similar to
yours). You can override the JVM in this file but, hopefully, that won't be
    necessary!
    Best,
    Craig

  • Solution Provided. 10g Infratructure Fails to Start in Reboot. opnm.exe err

    Hi All,
Just finished an Oracle Application Server 10g install on windows 2003 and thought I would detail an issue we had with the infrastructure.
The install runs fine and we are initially able to register the Business Intelligence servers against it. After a reboot the OracleasAScontrol service remains at a status of starting. (This is the service that runs nmesrvc.exe).
Further Symptoms are errors with the opmn.exe file. Ours would pop up and error every time we tried to shut the machine down. After we added some trusted sites we found that opmn.exe would error immediately when we logged in after a reboot.
Cause - We think this is being caused by the nmesrvc.exe (OracleoracleasAScontrol) service actually starting the opmn.exe (OracleoracleasProcessManager) service before the service has a chance to start itself. (Verified by setting both services to manual, rebooting, then starting the OracleoracleasAScontrol. Note that the OracleoracleasProcessManager starts by itself or reports the service as started.)
This seems to be causing the OracleoracleasProcessManager service not to actually run, even when set to automatic. It does however run the command to shut it down and disable the services when the system is shutdown. The problem is that even though opmn.exe is starting, the modules attached to it are remaining down because the opmn.exe -S is not running to start them up.
    Services involved
    Fix -
    1. disable both services (Note "disable", not "set to manual")
    2. Reboot
    3. set OracleoracleasAScontrol to manual.
    4. Select and start OracleoracleasAScontrol
    5. set OracleoracleasProcessManager to manual
    6. Select and start OracleoracleasProcessManager (You may get an error about process shutting down. Ignore it)
    7. Set OracleoracleasAScontrol back to automatic
    8. Set OracleoracleasProcessManager to disabled (And never enable it again)
    9. Reboot and order shall return.
    Reason.
What we found is that there are 2 parts to the opmn.
1 The opmn service which allows opmnctl to connect and start and stop individual components.
2 The control which starts and stops the components.
If you just start and stop opmn as a part of the OracleoracleasAScontrol then there is no need to start and stop the components. It also says in the manual that if you stop the compnents you must start them again as opmn will not start them automatically.
On our system it looks as though the OracleoracleasProcessManager is trying to do both of these parts and the OracleoracleasAScontrol is also including the 1st part. This duplication means that the 2nd part is running at shutdown but not at startup due to the OracleoracleasProcessManager assuming that it has already been run (We think it looks at the opmn.exe process). This then leaves the opmn.exe running but the components remain down.
We hope this may be useful should anyone come across the same problem.

    Hi Gurus,

    Issue is :
    Caused By: weblogic.management.provider.EditFailedException:
One probable reason can be some change made to the config.xml file . If you have previous backup for the config.xml file then try to replace the config.xml file and restart the server .
Another reason for this exception may be that there were some changes made to configuration through the Admin Console which were not activated completely and Admin Server was restarted . under this scenario weblogic will create a /pendig dir and have a config.xml file created there with the un-activated changes .
some workaround you can try to restore the Admin Server :
    Under domain dir ,
\pending directory -- take backup and delete the dir .
    Under Admin Server Dir :
data\store --- take backup and delete the dir .

  • Database not automatically starting after reboot of RedHat ES4 Linux

    Hi,
I have Oracle database enterprise edition 9.2.0.4 running on RedHat Linux ES release 4. Although the installation went fine and after the installation I was able to see the common processes like ora_pmon started in system, but when I reboot system the database does not comeup.
I am using dbstart command via a /etc/init.d/oracle file. This is linked to /etc/rc5.d and /etc/rc3.d as well in the Linux server.
The amazing thing is that tnslistener is started automatically after system reboot but not database. That is, when I check the status of that via the command "lsnrctl status" it shows me the one database instance that I am hoping to see correctly. But no ora_pmon etc processes are there.
Even interesting thing is that when I manually run the command "/etc/init.d/oracle start" by hand, it does start the database perfectly fine. This is the same command that I am running via the startup scripts in /etc/rc5.d and othe runlevels.
Please help me finding out why is the database not starting up automatically? I have checked the /u02/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/startup.log which just says reports that Listener has started but after that it does not show anything about database starting up.
Below I am pasting the chunk of /etc/init.d/oracle script that is supposed to start the listener and database. Please have a look at it and tell me what can I be doing wrong in this case?
    ORACLE=oracle1
    export ORACLE_HOME PATH
    LOG=$ORACLE_HOME/startup.log
    touch $LOG
    chmod a+r $LOG
    case $1 in

    fi
    echo "starting Oracle databases"

Thanks in advance for your urgent help.

Thanks for your reply, actually I have already set the value of $ORACLE_HOME to the correct value as per my installation, sorry that line was cut when I last time pasted the chunk of my /etc/init.d/oracle file because I only wanted to paste the relevant portion of that file.
But here is the complete /etc/init.d/oracle file that I have below, please suggest what might be wrong?

  • Httpd fail to start after Zend Core installation

    Hi!
I need Zend, so I installed it using this instruction.
The problem is that httpd daemon faild to start after that.
    Here is my /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/httpd/foo_log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd//var/log/httpd/foo_log".
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.
    ServerRoot "/etc/httpd"
    # Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
    # ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
    # directive.
    # Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
    # prevent Apache from glomming onto all bound IP addresses.
    #Listen 12.34.56.78:80
    Listen 80

    Here is my /etc/php.ini:
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; Under Windows, the compile-time path is the Windows directory. The
; path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file. It
; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure,
    ; and encourage cleaner coding.
; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this
; file is warmly recommended for production sites. As all of the changes from
; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each one,
; and decide whether you want to use it or not.
; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the php.ini-dist
; file, included in your PHP distribution.
; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it features
; different values for several directives, in order to improve performance, while
; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box behavior of
; PHP. Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts
; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead.
    ; - register_globals = Off [Security, Performance]
; Global variables are no longer registered for input data (POST, GET, cookies,
; environment and other server variables). Instead of using $foo, you must use
; you can use $_REQUEST["foo"] (includes any variable that arrives through the
; request, namely, POST, GET and cookie variables), or use one of the specific
    ; $_GET["foo"], $_POST["foo"], $_COOKIE["foo"] or $_FILES["foo"], depending
; on where the input originates. Also, you can look at the
    ; import_request_variables() function.
; Note that register_globals is going to be depracated (i.e., turned off by
; default) in the next version of PHP, because it often leads to security bugs.
    ; Read http://php.net/manual/en/security.registerglobals.php for further
    ; information.
    ; - register_long_arrays = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the older (and deprecated) long predefined array
; variables ($HTTP_*_VARS). Instead, use the superglobals that were
    ; introduced in PHP 4.1.0
    ; - display_errors = Off [Security]
; With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the execution of
; scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output, and thus,
; will no longer be exposed to remote users. With some errors, the error message
; content may expose information about your script, web server, or database
; server that may be exploitable for hacking. Production sites should have this
    ; directive set to off.
    ; - log_errors = On [Security]
; This directive complements the above one. Any errors that occur during the
; execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's error log,
; but can be configured in several ways). Along with setting display_errors to off,
; this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have gone wrong,
; without exposing any sensitive information to remote users.
    ; - output_buffering = 4096 [Performance]
; Set a 4KB output buffer. Enabling output buffering typically results in less
; writes, and sometimes less packets sent on the wire, which can often lead to
; better performance. The gain this directive actually yields greatly depends
; on which Web server you're working with, and what kind of scripts you're using.
    ; - register_argc_argv = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the somewhat redundant $argv and $argc global
    ; variables.
    ; - magic_quotes_gpc = Off [Performance]
; Input data is no longer escaped with slashes so that it can be sent into
; SQL databases without further manipulation. Instead, you should use the
; function addslashes() on each input element you wish to send to a database.
    ; - variables_order = "GPCS" [Performance]
; The environment variables are not hashed into the $_ENV. To access
; environment variables, you can use getenv() instead.
    ; - error_reporting = E_ALL [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)]
; By default, PHP surpresses errors of type E_NOTICE. These error messages
; are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger
; problem. Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use
; of uninitialized variables to be displayed.
    ; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off [Code cleanliness]
; It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference
; when calling a function. The PHP 4 style to do this is by making the
; function require the relevant argument by reference.
    ; Language Options ;

; NOTE: Using short tags should be avoided when developing applications or
; libraries that are meant for redistribution, or deployment on PHP
; servers which are not under your control, because short tags may not
; be supported on the target server. For portable, redistributable code,

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
    ; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).
    output_buffering = 4096
; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
    ; is doing.
; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".
; Note: output_handler must be empty if this is set 'On' !!!!
; Instead you must use zlib.output_handler.
    ;output_handler =
; Transparent output compression using the zlib library
; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size
; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)
; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP
; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.
; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard
; output_handler, or otherwise the output will be corrupted.
    zlib.output_compression = Off
; You cannot specify additional output handlers if zlib.output_compression
; is activated here. This setting does the same as output_handler but in
    ; a different order.
    ;zlib.output_handler =
; Implicit flush tells PHP to tell the output layer to flush itself

    Hi Garyalbert,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with No POST on ThinkPad X240.
To resolve the issue I suggest you to perform power drain, to go with power drain option please removing power adapter and battery. Hold the power button for 30 second and then connect only power adapter and try to switch on the system. If the system is switching ON then connect battery and check it once.
    Hope this helps!
    Best regards,
    Hemanth Kumar
