10g dbconsole

Hi,
I installed oracle 10g on a machine running windows XP SP1.
There is nothing on this machine except the OS.
Everything went smoothly until i tried to log to
//localhost:5500/em
I checked the port number
I define the Oracle_sid variable
I started dbconsole
Still no answer.
Read many post. Tried to create new DB. Still no answer.
Swear a lot, smoke a lot, drank a little. Still no ...
Any suggestion

actually there is a patch since end of august on metalink.
called 10.1.3 or so, just 450 MB !
it is a PATCH, you need an installed 10g rdbms.
just downloaded it, no experience installing it yet.
playing around with 10g on windows 2000 professional already quite some time.
machine 1 : 1GB RAM, 1.6 Ghz, 3GB virtual memory
machine 2 : 500 MB RAM, 1.0 Ghz, 3 GB virtual memory
mixed success so far.
at least on one machine, every second boot succeeds starting up the rdbms, so I'll can run iSqlPlus and EnterpriseManager, it it impressive when it's running otherwise you just find this dreadful message in listener.log about some thing being blocked.
I swear :

reboot , check alert.log, not OK,
reboot , check alert.log, OK,
reboot , check alert.log, not OK,
... ad absurdum ...
Otherwise just connecting from DOS-Box to sys/sys_pwd as sysdba and doing a 'alter database mount' and 'alter database open' .
Great job, may be I'll employ somebody who can count to 2.
Anyway, understood so far, there is more trouble for installations not going the american_america environment setting way.
We are just in a mixed Microsoft-Oracle breeding hell.
You may compare it to the current availability-state of this forum.
I really do think the old rules of reliabilty make sense :
- stability of a system is a function of parts involved and stability per part.
Too many parts involved here, even a 99.9 % stability per part doesn't help any more.
OK, hopefully things are better in october, or they have better implementation docs then, including 20 pages how to play around with ORADIM depending on actual situation.

Oracle 10g DBConsole

Hi all,
currently I'm trying to enable 10g DBConsole on some running databases.
To-date, I don't have much information about the databases, eg. how they were installed, and what are the components being selected during the installation.
I researched abit regarding DBConsole, to setup the repos, we can make use of emca found in $ORACLE_HOME/bin. DBConsole vs Grid difference is that console is only for single DB, whereas Grid is for multiple DBs? Am I correct to say this? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
However, to start up the service, I noticed that it requires emctl, which seems to be missing from my bin directory, all I can see is the emca executable file. Am I missing anything here?
Next, I need to prove to my management the pros of enabling it, at the same time identifying the concerns if any.
Some concerns I identified are as follow:
1) Require sys user login <<< Can we create a specific user which is used to login and perform EM tasks only?
2) Require ports to be enabled <<< May require to raise exception?
Due to the fact that I'm in a very strict environment, that's why I am looking at these concerns. Any other concerns that I need to take note of?

1.- Create a database through the DBCA
2.- Realize at the end of the installation the address to access to the database control ( OEM Web app ) to that database. ( http://host:550x/em )
3.- Set the ORACLE_SID enviroment variable
4.- Check the status of this service ( emctl status dbconsole )
5.- if the service is down you have to start it so : ( emctl start dbconsole )
6.- Access to the address highlighted in the step 5

To see all sessions in OEM 10g DBConsole

I 'm trying to see all sessions in OEM 10g DBConsole, but I didn't find where to see, I only can see the main sessions... is there a way to see all sessions in database?

It is best to not compare the 9i OEM to the 10g Grid Control, while some of the features may have been incorporated, they are very different.

Oracle 10g DBCONSOLE won't start up

Hello...
I'm running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on RHEL4. My listener, database and Oracle HTTP Server are up and running. The sole purpose of this database is to run Oracle Application Express applications. The oracle apex applications are all running fine.
However, I cannot for the life of me get Oracle EM (dbconsole) running. I've tried everything but obviously not the right thing. I can't console to my running database? It keeps failing everytime I start it. I've looked at some logs but I don't know what I'm looking for. Oracle EM was running just fine on Friday, but wouldn't come up Monday morning.
My url for EM is http://172.23.183.169:1158/em
At the terminal session prompt I type >emctl start dbconsole
It comes back after a 5 minute timeout saying it failed. It appears that the agent (3938) does not want to start.
Here is some log info further below...

The Linux Database Server has a static IP address assigned to the NIC...172.23.183.169. It is not using DHCP. Hope that helps...

10g DBConsole issue

I've re-installed 10g on W2K, and can ping my DB successfully using SQL*Plus; however, nothing I try gets the dbconsole running. Here's the log output:

how to overcome this error

I remember R1 had some issues about synchronizing the agent with the correct status of the db. It was a real annoyance. Not using R1 for a long time, so I can't try it out myself.
One of many reasons to upgrade to R2.
Are you sure that the agent is configured with the correct listener port? Did you change the listener port number lately? If so, you may need to reconfigure the agent.
Did you try to restart everything?
Also, sometimes clearing the browser cache & relogin could help.
But I guess you tried these already.

Oracle 10g dbconsole couldn't be started

I encountered this on and off, sometime the dbconsole can be started successfully, but sometime the above error will shown in the trc file.
When this problem occur, I always check on the port 1158 and the agent port 3938 to confirm that no process is occupying the port, but unfortunately it's still not working.
I loged a SR in metalink and the engineer also suggested the same thing to check...and the last resort, to reboot the server.
Normally reboot the server can solve the problem ..but I don't think it's a best way to solve the problem.
My Oracle 10 R2 10.2.0.4 install in Windows 2003 server SP2.
Anyone have the same experience to share?

10G dbconsole: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.

We have 10.2 running on AIX. I previously had dbconole running fine, however, something was changed and now when I log into dbconsole I get the error "IOException in sending Request :: A remote host refused an attempted connect operation.". I can still administer database stuff (user, tablespaces) but any operation that tries to access the host fails. For instance I can't schedule a job nor change the operating system credentials. What's really wierd is that on the home page it shows database down, listener down, and agent failed. Obviously, the database and the listener are not down or I wouldn't even be able to get in.
Help appreciated.

Growth trend report segment analysis using 10g dbconsole.

Hi,
I need to analyse the growth of the table. So when looked online i found a way to go for the growth trend report segment analysis which is available under database control-> Administration tab -> schema section->tables->segments tab.But i cannot see anything of the sort segments tab when i searched after going to the tables page in the dbconsole. Can anyone please advice where can i get the growth trend report segment analysis in dbconsole?

It appears that Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g (dbconsole and grid control) does not manage Workspace Manager.
1) Is this correct?
2a) If so, any plans and time/version to make it work?
2b) If not, where do I look?

Thats correct. For 10g, Workspace Manager is only available through the java console, not dbconsole or grid control. It is currently planned for a future release of the dbconsole.

10g EM and 9.2 DB

Please is it possible to install the 10g enterprise manager on 9.2 release without upgrading the database

I'm not sure, what you mean with 10g Enterprise Manager here.
10g DBConsole is an integrated part of each 10g database, it is dedicated to this database and monitors only this specific database (+ OS, where the database is installed)
10g javabased Enterprise Manager (part of 10g client software) can monitor databases 8i and higher, it's a standalone product, no repository.
10g GridControl is a centralized management tool, it monitors databases 8i and higher, application servers, different operating systems. It needs a repository, there are different options, database for this repository can be a preconfigured database as part of the software or an existing 10g database.

You can configue an existing database with the dbca, even if your db was not created by dbca !

Oracle 11g unreasonable large data file that can't be shrunk

I got this Oracle 11g installed on my win7 just for running my local application. In the Enterprise Manager the "USERS" tablespaces shows over 12g for allocated size, about 1g for Space Used(also see the table snippet below), only about 8% of space is used. However, when I tried to shrink the data file/space even to half of its current size, both from command line(resize) and Enterprise Manager, i got the error that says "Failed to commit: ORA-03297: file contains used data beyond requested RESIZE value ". I was able to resize my TEMP tablespace successfully with the same command.
Any insight on this? thanks a lot. I'm about to run out my hard drive space.

You have an object stored at the end of the datafile, you will need to move it down the file (or to another tablespace) before you can shrink the file. I though OEM had a "tablespace map" feature to help you see what objects were located where but if not, see:In EM (or 10g dbconsole, at any rate), you select a tablespace, drop down menu Show Tablespace Contents, then there is a tablespace map icon to expand the map. It can be slow. Then you can scroll down to the bottom, scroll up and look for where the last non-green extents are. Also, you can find the beginning of datafiles (if you have multiple data files in the tablespace) by watching for purple header blocks. Hovering over the segments gives information, and clicking on them (or selecting segments in the contents list up above) shows where all the extents are in yellow. I haven't tried the reorganize link...

Need help on incremental backup

I am running a rman backup using 10g DBCONSOLE. I selected level 0 backup and it's running. this is the command.

can i run every week level 1backup and run level 0 back every 4 week?There's no fix rule. But I would do a level 0 backup more frequently, let's say once a week. And a level 1 backup the other days. Otherwise a restore/recovery could run very long.
if i want to recover in what order should i recover??You don't have to care about this, RMAN knows which backups are needed in which order. Restore process starts always with a level 0 backup, afterwards it reads all needed level 1 backups and the following recover process applies the archivelogs.
