10g on Windows XP

HI Gentlemen,
I installed 10g on my XP Pro; however, it claimed that "Could not install OCR". Is it very important or can I skip the problem?
Thanks, kind regards from
Miklos HERBOLY

OCR (Oracle Cluster Repository) is needed only in a RAC environment or for ASM (Automatic Storage Management) , so error message can be ignored safely if both are used.
Following 'Could not install OCR' normally occurs another problem, something like 'OracleCSService cannot be started'. To avoid problems after rebooting this service must be set to 'manually'.

I was installing Oracle 10g on Windows XP but the dbca was failling. So I tried to create a database manually.
But every time I launch this:
    "SQL> startup nomount pfile="C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\admin\XP10G\scripts\initXP10G.ora";"
    I always had:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION
I tried to change some memory value in the init*.ora without more success.
So if anyone has been had such issue; he would be an help for me.

  • Oracle 10g on Windows 2003: instance not autostarting

I'm installing Oracle 10g (10.2.0.1) on two new Windows 2003 servers, and I'm facing the same problem, even after some full re-installations, on both of them; so this issue seems to be some kind of bug related to Oracle 10g on Windows 2003 and not just some random error.
When I run the installation it completes fine, and the database instance gets created and started without any trouble; I can connect to it using the console, the Java stand-alone Enterprise Manager, SQL Plus or anything else; it works when connecting from clients, too.
As soon as the server is rebooted, Oracle services start but it just seems the instance isn't actually started: any connection is refused by the listener which complains about not knowing the supplied instance name, and the oracle.exe process only uses about 11 MB of memory, which is a sure sign it isn't doing anything useful. The instance is configured to start, the registry keys are properly set, and everything works correclty after the installation... but stops working after the first server reboot.
I tried manually stopping and starting the services, in various orders; I tried re-installing Oracle various times; I tried deleting and re-creating the database instance, both at setup time or manually after the setup was done without creating an instance, I tried anything I could think of.
The only thing I didn't try was applying patch set 10.2.0.3 to the installation, but I just can't seem to find them, even though my company has an Oracle partnership; I find Metalink just a bit too confusing.
    Can someone please help?
    P.S.
The servers are actually VMWare ESX virtual servers, but I just can't imagine this to be the cause of the problem. The operating system on both servers is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition (not R2), italian language, with service pack 2 and all the latest updates from Windows Update. The servers are not domain members and I'm running the installation using the local Administrator account.

I don't have a physical server available now, but I really can't even imagine how the underlying hardware, be it physical or virtual, could affect this behaviour. I'm talking about the Oracle service starting while the instance isn't, this is very unlikely to have any relationship with device drivers.

  • Problems installing Oracle Developer Suite 10g in windows 7

    Hi Experts;
I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g in windows XP, but now I change to windows 7, 64 bits, I was trying to install this product and I'm having a lot of problems, apparently this product is not compatible with windows 7.
My question is, is there any product, like Oracle Developer Suite 10g for windows 7? I was looking for in the Oracle page, and  I couldn't see anything, may be the name is diferent.
    Thanks for your help.
    Al

First off, Oracle Developer Suite (ODS) 10g is no longer supported so Oracle has discontinued improving the product.  While ODS is not certified by Oracle for use on Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), you can install and use on Windows 7 (32/64 bit).  This is a commonly asked question so a search of the forum would have given you several solutions.
The limitations of the Oracle installer are:
    1.  You must have Administrator rights to install.
    2.  Windows 7 is not a supported version (it's version 6 and it is looking for version 5), so the installer exits.
    3.  It's unable to recognize Windows Managed virtual memory.
To get around these limitations you must do the following:
    1.  Modify your Virtual Memory settings and define a specific Min and Max amount.   Look at this MS article if you need help making this change: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-the-size-of-virtual-memory
    2.  You must run the Oracle installer in compatibility mode for Windows XP.  To do this,
      - Right-click on the setup.exe and select the Compatibility tab and click "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP2"
    3.  While still in the properties and the compatibility tab, select the option, "Run as Administrator" and click OK.
Now run the Oracle setup.exe and your installation should succeed.

Can anybody help me? I am very confused about this error message.
    Thanks very much.
    Petr.

Are you logged in as an administrator?
I wouldn't install in Program Files anyway. I'm not sure, but I have a gut feeling that Oracle doesn't like spaces in file and directory names. Install in C:\Oracle directory.

  • Install developer suite 10g on windows 7

    hi to all,
I would like to install developer suite 10g on my notebook windows7 32-bit. It 's possible?
    thanks
    Silvia

    Silvia,
Yes, it is possible to run Oracle Forms 10g R2 on Windows 7, although, it is not officially supported by Oracle. Oracle has only certified Forms 11g (Oracle Fusion Middleware (OFM) 11g) for Windows 7. If your development requires a supported Oracle environment, then I suggest you upgrade to OFM.
The key to setting up Forms 10g on Windows 7 is the preparation. First, the Oracle Installer doesn't recognize Windows managed virtual memory so you will need to change your system virtual memory settings from "Windows Managed" to a specific size (typically 2048mb minimum). Second, you will need to change the compatibility to "Windows XP" for the Forms 10g installer and run the installer as "Administrator" for the installation to succeed.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Host Credential Problem in Oracle 10g on Windows

    Hi,
I have another problem that is really bothering me. I
have tried using Oracle database 10g on Windows XP and
it works fine till you shut down and attempt to
restart (or any administrative task)with the EM. It
asks for the Database and Host credentials but always
rejects the Host credentials. Now because i only have
the Administrator as the OS user, i try to give this
user and it's password and it still doesn't accept
    that.
What could be the problem??? I infact have realized
that this problem is NOT there if i use 10.1.0 on Red
Hat Linux AS 3 because for the host credentials i use
the OS user Oracle and the password (Owner of Oracle
    Installation)and it goes through fine.
In Windows, what should i do to rectify this problem.
Or is it a bug with Oracle on Windows. Or where should
i get the relevant Host credentials Oracle requests on
Windows or should i create a user??? Please
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

1.86 GHz, 3.25 GM or RAMI performed a full database import after creating the required tablespaces from the 10g database on Linux to Windows.
On the Windows 10g database, I set Maximum SGA size to 1300 MB, and Total SGA size to 1000 MB. I set Aggregate PGA Target to 500 MB.
This Windows box is going to be used by at most 2 developers for a change to our application that is not backward compatible (with respect to the database) with earlier versions of the application that uses the database. I was asked to create this so we could develop this branch without affecting the rest of the development team that are working on other enhancements on the Linux box.
I then ran some packages that refresh the data in a set of tables. This runs through some code that exercises a lot of the database so I could uncover any issues.
At a specific point in the execution of these packages I get the following error:
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [ACCESS_VIOLATION] [_qkkIsOJKey+299] [PC:0x1E58F73] [ADDR:0x80] [UNABLE_TO_READ] []I read the trace file and isolated it to a single, somewhat complex query. I tore the query apart into smaller queries, trying to isolate what was causing the issue. Whenever the core dump occurred, I was able to recover by simply closing the connection and opening a new connection. In my testing I found the specific query that raises the exception, and a less performing version of that query that does not cause the exception. Please note that this exception has never occurred on the Linux box (nor has it occurred on the beta or production database), and the code has been in place for close to 2 years.
The code that causes the issue:
    SELECT UNIQUE
           oc.ogc_case_id AS oc_ogc_case_id,
           ogc.ogc_number AS ogc_number
      FROM (SELECT SUBSTR (REPLACE (afd.field_text, '-', '' ), 1, 6 )    AS ogc_number

           ) ogc
      LEFT OUTER JOIN lct_snap.ogc_cases oc
ON oc.ogc_number  = ogc.ogc_numberThe code that returns the same data, only slower, and does not raise the exception:
    SELECT UNIQUE
           (SELECT oc.ogc_case_id FROM lct_snap.ogc_cases oc WHERE oc.ogc_number = ogc.ogc_number ) AS oc_ogc_case_id,

) ogcI executed both queries in SQL Developer version 3.0.04. SQL Developer gives the error message: No more data to read from socket
    Any ideas?
The query shown above is as simple as I could pare it down to and still raise and then fix the issue. The fix to the package is not as simple as the second query shown above since there is more than one column of data that I need to return from the lct_snap.ogc_cases table. In any case, I shouldn't have to forgo using the LEFT OUTER JOIN. There must be something wrong with the Windows database. I didn't want to patch the Windows database without first checking on this forum to see if anyone had any less intensive potential solutions.
I searched and found so many posts with the ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [ACCESS_VIOLATION] error, that I realize it's a somewhat generic error message.
