10g R2 dbca fails in Solaris 10

Hi,
I am facing the following problem in Solaris 10 SPARC 64 bit machine.
1.     Downloaded Oracle 10g R2 installable from oracle
2.     Created user oracle and group dba and modified project settings and permissions as per quick installation guide
3.     Installation of software is successful. But dbca fails with following error message.
ORA-19624: operation failed, retry possible
ORA-19870: error reading backup piece /vol1/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_Database.dfb
ORA-19587: error occurred at reading 0 bytes at block number 1
ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27067: size of I/O buffer is invalid
4.     I also tried creating scripts using dbca and running it manually. It fails with following error message in trace file
Corrupt block 1 found during reading backup piece, file=/ora10gr2/ora10gr2/product/10.2.0/Db_1/assistants/dbca/templates/Seed_
Database.dfb, corr_type=3
5.     Creation of custom database also fails with similar error message
It is Solaris 10 (Solaris 10 11/06 s10s_u3wos_10 SPARC) machine with patch level 125100-05 . Please help.
Regards
Vijoy

In both cases, there it is shown a block corrupt for database file 1, that means the install media was originally corrupt and the corruption was at the seed database files.
Check the media consistency to discover if corruption was originally there. In case it was redownload the zip file for solaris and unzip it somewhere else. Look for the seed database files at the ORACLE_HOME/assistants/dbca/templates and replace them.
When you created by scripts, ensure the option where the scripts only is selected, do not try to create the database by means of the dbca, run scripts from the OS.

    Pl identify exact version of Oracle 10gR2 you are installing, along with exact version of Win 7. The only certified combinaton is 10.2.0.5 on Win 7 Professional or higher - Home versions are not supported. Is Win 7 32-bit or 64-bit ?

    10.2.0.5 is patch that is only available from Oracle's Support site (https://support.oracle.com), access to which requires a paid support contract.
    If you do have Win 7 Professional or higher, you should be installing 11gR2 instead.

    This appears to be because of low semaphores setting. Did you reboot your server after making the /etc/system parameter changes ?

  • Configuration assistant error with Oracle 10g 10.2.02 with Solaris 10 6/06

    Hi all,
    As anyone seen this a fix for this error?
    I have installed Solaris 10 6/06 x86 on VMWare 5.2 which works fine.
    When I attempt to install Oracle 10g 10.2.02 for Solaris x86 (released in Sept 06), the install goes fine until I get to the configuration assistant stage.
    The first Net based configuration assistant fails with a Java exception which seems to be related to a Sig 11 in the libc library.
    This looks like an error fixed by a patch mentioned in the release notes but the patch does not seem to be available for this version of Solaris.
    Any comments would be greatly appreciated...
    Regards
    Anthony

    Hi all,
    Just to update this.
    I have deselected the create database option part of the install and Oracle installs OK!
    The problem is in the create database phase which I have manually done when I use the dbca program.
    When I get to the create database operation of the the dbca wizard, I get a the following error "ORA-00600, internal error code, arguments [kelntf-ldminit, [146],[1],[],[],[],[],[]"
    Any offers?

    Please help me with this problem.
    Thank you
    Ravindran Kanniah

    It is because of UNIX shell. I also faced this error during installation.
    First check your shell by the following command.
    $ echo $SHELL
    Then select the below.
    For csh shell
    $ setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
    $ export DISPLAY
    For sh,ksh and bash
    $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0
    $ export DISPLAY
    After you do this check the value of DISPLAY variable.
    $ echo $DISPLAY
    If the DISPLAY variable is set then run ./runInstaller.
    One advice: Keep a complete log of your terminal session. This will help you in future :)

  • Dbca fails

    Hello ,
    i am doing database createion on 11gR2 on solaris 10 and i got this mesage while defining SID:
    "The Oracle system identifier(SID) "test" already exists. Specifiy another SID.
    Before that my dbca failed when got to 4%, i don't know why, and now i can't select the same SID.

    What is Operation system?
    dbca say that in the system there is ORACLE_SID which which you want create again.
    if you uses windows OS then enter from commond promt as follow
    set ORACLE_SID=<SIDNAME>
    oradim -delete -sid <SIDNAME>
    then try create database using dbca

  • Font command fails on solaris

    I have a program which runs fine under Windows but fails in Solaris when it gets to the line
    font=new Font(null,FONT.plain,current_font_size);
    (I have tried SansSerif and Lucida in place of null.
    It is being run from a shell script as a batch process on the server. I have to access fonts to work out size of text objects - I presume my problem is to do with X11 - any advice.

    Hi,
    Can you provide the error you get?
    I guess you do need an X Window System ( http://www.xfree86.org ).
    If you already have one, try setting the environment variable DISPLAY as follows:
    - log on as root
    - for sh ksh:
    set DISPLAY=localhost:1.0
    export DISPLAY
    - or for csh:
    setenv DISPLAY=localhost:1.0
    If this doesn't work, try replacing 1.0 with 0.0

  • Ddi_regs_map_setup fails in solaris 11

    Hi
    I have a driver (parent=isa) in x86 that ioremaps (ddi_regs_map_setup) a physical address range between 0xE0000 and 0xF0000.
    This is a device memory mapped region.
    The ddi_regs_map_setup was successful in solaris 10 (32 bit and 64 bit) but fails in solaris 11.
    The warning message
    WARNING: isa_apply_range: Out of range base <base> size <size>
    The ddi_regs_map_setup goes through for the same region if driver made as parent=pci instead of parent=isa.
    Would be helpful if someone could point out why this happens in solaris 11?
    cheers

    each of the registers covers an area of pci bus address space supplied by the card
    why don't you print out the return value from ddi_dev_regsize() as that will tell you
    how much space the card is exporting for each of the registers .

  • DBCA (10gR2) in solaris 10 doesn't create DB, has 0 errors

    Hi,
    I have oracle 10.2.0.1 installed on a Solaris 10 SPARC box, and am trying to create a database. When I installed Oracle, I originally opted to create a new database, but when it got to the DBCA section, the installer seems to pause with the results stating it's "in progress...". I stopped the installer, and cancelled the install. On checking the logs, there were no errors, it just seems to stop (even if I leave it for 14+ hours) with the last lines of the log being:
    INFO: Configuration assistant "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" succeeded
    INFO: Command = /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/bin/dbca -progress_only

    Then I installed Oracle without creating a db thinking I could create a database alone with DBCA. The installer completed successfully, but dbca isn't completing at all. It launches fine, I can progress through all the steps/panes no problems. When I get to the last pane to select db creation options, I have "Create Database" and "Generate Database Creation Scripts" checked, then I click Finish. A window opens with a summary, I click OK and that window closes. Then nothing happens. Nothing at all. No errors in the terminals, and I'm looking at the last pane of the DBCA as if it didn't do anything at all. I can uncheck the creation options and click Finish again, but I get no notification windows, and the app just seems to be open, but not doing anything. I can "Cancel" out of it though. No scripts directory is added either.
    Any suggestions on how I can create a db??
    Thanks!

    Hello there,
    I know this topic is quite old now but maybe my solution would help someone else...
    I met the exact same problem than user10494040. I'm running Debian Etch (but the problem was the same with a Lenny) which was installed from a netinstall CD, and on which I've met all the prerequisites given by Oracle ( [Configuring Linux for the Installation of Oracle Database 10g|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe10gdb/install/linuxpreinst/linuxpreinst.htm] )
    It was impossible for me to successfully complete the Oracle installation when the database creation option was selected in OUI, as well as the Basic Installation or the Advanced one was choosen.
    I've done many tests and each time I unselected the database creation option, the installation completed successfully. So I decided to try to create my database using DBCA in command line, using the command automatically generated by OUI and on which the installation froze, just adding to it the -silent option and removing the -progress_only one.
    Note :_ if your installation really freeze on the database creation command, you can also find the DBCA command automaticaly generated in the log file of the installation (available in the folder oraInventory/logs/installActions####.log where #### is the date you attempted to make your installation).
    For example, with the command given by user10494040 it would looks like :
    # dbca -silent -createDatabase -templateName General_Purpose.dbc -gdbName orcl -sid orcl -sysPassword 052b3cccab83184dd1ba5e728aa1ff1e189a90088c2da70291 -systemPassword 053e5dc6ab23642c16821c915b858ddc23d87c4a357e140d8e -sysmanPassword 05b123a3abe32968b37230926a9bfc13f4d4ef5e52f01e095d -dbsnmpPassword 058be1aeaba392a9299e7d3d8215720402fe045d76a03d4506 -emConfiguration LOCAL -datafileJarLocation /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/assistants/dbca/templates -datafileDestination /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/oradata/ -responseFile NO_VALUE -characterset WE8ISO8859P1 -obfuscatedPasswords true -sampleSchema true -oratabLocation /export/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/Db_3/install/oratab -recoveryAreaDestination NO_VALUE
    Of course, launch this command loggued as oracle, and make sure your $ORACLE_HOME is well set.
    This trick worked for me, I hope that would help someone else :-)

    Configuration assistant "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" failed
    Does anyone encounter this error?
    I have followed release notes doc in OAS 10.1.2 in db configuration assistant patch to manually install patch 4590858; however it still does not work after several attempts.
    Fyi, I found no "bali" extracted during installation.
    Need advice on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Anita

    Anita,
    You may wish to check metalink article ID 401987.1
    I ran into this when I was installing Oracle Application Server SOA Suite. Jaime Acevedo of Oracle Global Services referred me to this article.
    Briefly, it says that ANT_HOME environment variable must be unset and you must either remove the /etc/ant.conf file or comment out the line in the /etc/ant.conf file that incorrectly sets the ANT_HOME environmental variable.
    HTH,
    Gregory
