10g r2 Hangcheck timer

hii,
OS : win server 2008
DB : 10.2.0.4.0
Nodes : 2
DB size : 60GB
Now , here is the scenario -
We have 2 nodes RAC with above details.
Issue is, one of the node getting hanged frequently once in a month , cant even take remote-login of that hanged node( no response, no ping , everything hangs)
Now , i doubt that the problem could be hangcheck timer for RAC in 10g.  But how to configure hangcheck timer for 10g  RAC for WINDOWS.
Any other ideas are welcome.

AFAIK this is for Linux, there is no such package available on Windows. But then again, I haven't ever configured RAC over windows but for your question that whether there is any such package over Windows, the answer is No.

yes, its recommended to configure hangcheck timer in RAC configuration
    Configure the Hangcheck Timer
The hang-check timer is loaded into the Linux kernel and checks if the system hangs. It will set a timer and check the timer after a certain amount of time. There is a configurable threshold to hang-check that, if exceeded will reboot the machine. Although the hangcheck-timer module is not required for Oracle Clusterware (Cluster Manager) operation, it is highly recommended by Oracle.
    cat /etc/rc.local
    modprobe hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=1 hangcheck_margin=10 hangcheck_reboot=1

  • *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed

    Hi,
I'm using intel sandybridge graphics (xf86-video-intel 2.15.0) with linux 2.6.38.4. Whenever I run app that requires OpenGL(e.g. glxgears), I GPU hangs about every 3 seconds.
    dmesg shows:
[   58.693676] [drm:i915_hangcheck_ring_idle] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle [waiting on 6200, at 6200], missed IRQ?
I googled and didn't find anything useful. I thought is was a bug and should be fixed in the future until today when I tried Ubuntu 11.04.
When I boot to Ubuntu 11.04, glxgears ran perfectly, no GPU hangs no strange white striped or flicker (https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/23771)
I noticed that ubuntu is using kernel 2.6.38 and xf86-video-intel 2.14.0.
Anyone knows how come this can happen? or how to fix this?
    Thanks

  • Hangcheck-timer issus

    Hi,
I am installing Oracle10gR2 RAC on RHEL 4 AS 64-bit. I am at the point of configuring the hangcheck-timer. However, when I give the command to add it to the kernel then I get the following error. Any ideas??
    [shaseeb@galapagos 10.2.0]$ insmod /lib/modules/2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/char/hangcheck-timer.ko hangcheck_tick=30 hangcheck_margin=180
    -bash: insmod: command not found
    [shaseeb@galapagos 10.2.0]$ sudo insmod /lib/modules/2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/char/hangcheck-timer.ko hangcheck_tick=30 hangcheck_margin=180
    Password:
    sudo: insmod: command not found

If you put following line to /etc/modprobe.conf then hangcheck-timer module will be loaded automatically during boot, so you don't need to insert it manualy via insmod or modprobe command:
    options hangcheck-timer hangcheck_tick=30 hangcheck_margin=180[pre]

  • OBIEE 10g - high compilation time

    Hi All,
While doing performance tuning for one of the request in OBIEE 10g, I realized that the compilation time for the request is very high (almost 50% of total time). Is there any way I can reduce it?
Here's summary stats from the log.
    +++administrator:111e0000:111e0024:----2012/02/22 15:28:29
-------------------- Logical Query Summary Stats: Elapsed time 105, Response time 105, Compilation time 50 (seconds)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Check for the indexes. And if its there then try to change the order(ie the order of the columns in the index) with which the query uses the indexes.
Otherwise you can also make the report run by default in any of the default pages(making it hidden). So what happens is the report gets cached, so when the user tries to view the report, it happens to come fast.

  • OBI 10g merge 2 time dimensions on the same table/graph in analysis

    Hi,
My problem is: I have 2 different analyses (working fine) (using OBI 10g), they both use a different time dimension:
    time_dim_1 | fact1
    time_dim_2 | fact2
I want to merge them to have something like the following:
    time_dim | fact1 | fact2
What I managed to get so far is something like this:
    time_dim1 | time_dim2 | fact1 | fact2 (with, if we suppose there are 12 rows in time_dim1 and time_dim2, 12*12 = 144 rows instead of just 12)
Here is some more explanations about how I set my repository:
My fact table "issues" is made of the following columns:
    issue_id, issue_type, issue_create_date, issue_end_date
I also have a table "calendar" with year, quarter, month and full_gregorian_date.
In the physical layer I created 2 aliases for the "calendar" table to join with the fact table using "issue_create_date" and "issue_end_date".
In the business model I created the 2 related time dimensions.
Everything is working fine so far, I was able to get 2 different analyses :
    - time dimension (joined with "issue_CREATE_date") | count of issues (with aggregation rule "count" on issue_id)
to see how many new issues are CREATED through time (are there more issues created or less)
    - time dimension (joined with "issue_END_date") | count of issues (with aggregation rule "count" on issue_id)
to see how many new issues are ENDED through time (when are more issues ended)
What I want is a third analysis like this:
    - time dimension | count of created issues | count for ended issues
    Thanks for your help.

  • Application server 10g R2 taking time to load.

    hi all.
i am using oracle Application server 10g R2 when i boot my windows server 2003 R2 then
its taking time to load application server more than 5 min what is the problem
why its taking time to load?
    any onw knows?

JVM (java virtual machine) If you have a full stack, infrastructure + BI forms you need 2 gb at least only to install, if you plan to make some work on it it could happen that the computer get very slow.
In opmn.xml file, in the seccion for the home container (or other you are using) there is a line for Start Parameters, there you have to use the -Xmx1024M to se the maximum JVM size to 1gb, for this you will have to restart the proc.
For forms also there are some procs where you manage the size of the memory and procs, you can see this in the Configuration Seccion into the EM Console.

  • Hangcheck timer on AIX ??

    Hello,
I am trying to install RAC on AIX. I have done a install on linux. Had a question. Reading the AIX install guide, i didnt find anything called hang_check timer in there? How is that bein done here on AIX ?? And also when i did the install on linux. I had to download some ASM lib pakages. Does that need to be done here on AIX too ??? and also i had install a Java Pakage to make my clufvy uitility work. Same again AIX guide dont say anything like that. ??? It just says unzip the file and starting using clufvy?? is that possible? Thanks

As you didn't provide version information I assume that you were in 9i RAC and are now in 10g RAC. If this is the case you need to read the new docs.

  • JDBC connection to Oracle 10g RAC periodically times out

I've been banging my head against the wall for months now and can't figure out why this is and what's causing it.
We have 6x CF8 servers in our environment. 3 of which work perfectly and the other 3 have the following problem. All 6 machines were installed at the same time and followed the exact same installation plan.
When I configure Oracle RAC data source, some of the machines time-out connecting to Oracle from time-to-time.
    Config:
Solaris 9 on both CF and Oracle
CF8 Enterprise with the latest updater.
Apache 2 (not that it's relevant)
6 machines, load-balanced (not clustered), identical install and configuration.
    data source config:
    JDBC URL: jdbc:macromedia:oracle://10.0.0.3:1521;serviceName=dbname.ourdomain.com;AlternateServers= (10.0.0.4:1521);LoadBalancing=true
    DRIVER CLASS: macromedia.jdbc.MacromediaDriver
    The problem:
Every few minutes, CF starts hanging requests that deal with a specific RAC only data source. After about 30 seconds, all requests bail and generate this error in cfserver.log:
A non-SQL error occurred while requesting a connection from dbsource.
Timed out trying to establish connection
This happens with any RAC data source on the "bad" servers while the "good" servers don't have this problem. The "bad" server doesn't have any problems with direct (non-rac) Oracle data source.
    Already tried:
Moving server connections around on a switch (rulling out bad switch port)
Copying driver from the healthy server (but it's the same installer anyway)
Changed from RAC to normal Oracle type data source - works perfectly. So at the moment I have 3 servers connecting to a specific oracle instance and the other 3 connecting to RAC.
Tried googling and searching forums and even Oracle metalink - nothing I could see relevant to this.
It's a shame that after spending a ton of money on CF8 upgrades and Oracle RAC, we can't really utilize fail-over on the database connection.
    Any takers?
    Thanks,
    Henry

    Hey,
Would any body want to tell me, how come i can connect oracle dev 10g from its forms with oracle 10g data bases

Try asking this on the Oracle Forms forum:

In any case you need to set-up a sqlnet connection from your client to your server. Use the Network Configuration Utility that comes with the Oracle Forms installation.

  • Oracle 10g dataguard Connect-time failover Parameter 15 minutes

    Hello,
we running a system with DataGuard in Maximum Availability protection mode and one physical Standby Database. There are two connections between primary and standby. I configured listener and tnsnames to perform a Connect-time failover in case one connection is down. In first place it seemed to work fine but since it has happened that the primary always hangs for exactly 15 minutes until the failover is performed. (ALL redologs need archiving)
I think this must be the default value of a Parameter but reading docs for hours I can't find it.
    Can anybody help me?
    Best regards
    Fritz

It's like this. The connection failover I'm talking about is only between the primary database and standby database. I have two connections between them. That makes two addresses for the service (servicetostandby) specified in the log_archive_dest used by dataguard. In my case the log_archive_dest Paramater looks like this:
log_archive_dest_3 = 'SERVICE servicetostandby OPTIONAL LGWR SY
    NC AFFIRM VALID_FOR=(ONLINE_LO
    GFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE) DB_UNIQUE
    NAME=standby REOPEN=10 NETTIME
    OUT=9'
The tnsnames.ora entry looks like this:
    servicetostandby =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = address1)(PORT = 1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = address2)(PORT = 1521))
    (FAILOVER=true)
    (LOAD_BALANCE=false)
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = standby)
So if either address1 or address2 is down dataguard should use the other address to connect to the standby database.
Maybe because of the Maximum Availability protection mode the primary database does not perform if the standby database is not available. I'm not sure about that. But fact is that if I power off the standby database, the primary database hangs only for 9 seconds. That's specified in the net_time_out attribut of the log_archive_dest Parameter. So I'm quite sure that something in the oracle net service causes the problem.
With the "primary hangs" I mean: After the used connection (say address1) went down the redologfiles of the primary database get filled and then it stops for 15 minutes. The messages in the alert.log:
Thread 1 cannot allocate new log, sequence 1304
    All online logs needed archiving
After 15 minutes the connection via address2 is established and everything works fine.
I hope I made myself clear this time and didn't confuse you totally.

  • One Form 10g takes long time to open

We have created one form using Object Library and all objects are inherited.
It takes long time to open as compared to other forms which are inherited from Object Library.
Anybody having any idea. It would be great if somebody can provide some help

This form contains 3 tabs and one tab is completely inherited from Object Library (the whole block, items etc). I have tried to remove this inherited tab then it works better. So i think its definitely something to do with object library.
    Thanks alot.

  • Oracle 10g XE startup time

    Hello,
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've been looking for this kind of topic on this forum but couldn't find any.
On my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows XP) with 2Go RAM and dual core Intel Centrino @ 2GHz, it takes about 50 to 60 seconds for the "OracleServiceXE" service to start...
Is it the expected average startup time ? If not, how can I disable a maximum of startup time consuming functionnalities ?
I'd like to be able to use OracleXE as a lightweight database like MySQL or Postgresql.
    Thanks for your tips !
    Fred
    Edited by: user502327 on 6 sept. 2009 15:15

One of the biggest issues with XE startup is XE shutdown.
When XE starts up, it checks whether it crashed the last time it ran. If it crashed, it goes through a very lengthy crash recovery process.
Unfortunately most people do not shut down the database before shutting down their machine. The 'normal' Windows shutdown seems to crash the database to get it stopped quickly.
On my Dell D430 with Vista Business and 2GB RAM, after a crash, my XE starts up in about 55 seconds. After a proper DB shutdown, it seems to come back up in about 17-20 seconds.
