10g RAC with linux 3 AS+ocfs

Hi:
Is anyone install 10g RAC on linux 3AS with ocfs successfully?
I am having problem with CRS installation where installer ask to run root.sh. My first node finished root.sh without any problem but not second node it give me "Failure at final check of Oracle CRS stack." error. Moreover, I found "ERROR: clssnmconnect: failed, rc = 3, node samurai (1), (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=racs01-priv1)(PORT=49895))" error in ocssd2.log file. However, I can ping privet and public ip/hostname without any problem. Any input or suggestions are welcome!

Did you ever get a responce to this?
I'm having the very same issue, which I can not find a work around.
Documents for the 10g install have been very few and far between, so any help would be the greatest!

All,
I am having strange problem while setting up 10g RAC on Linux box. This is two node cluster (rac1 and rac2) Two probelms..
1. When I install CRS on rac1, it copies the files to rac2 and olsnodes -n works fine from both nodes, But when I run runinstaller on node 2 and try to see installed products, I don't see CRS oracle home there on rac2.
2. When I start installing 10g database on rac1 , at third step "Hardware Cluster Installation Mode:" I see my both nodes listed there, but I don't see "SELECT ALL" button on that screen. So when I finish installation, it doesn't copy files to rac2.
Does Anyone has any idea why it is behaving like this?

Hi,
I found one thing.. If I change ORACLE_HOME location while running OUI, it doesn't give SELECT ALL button , but if I let Installer to select oracle_HOME, it worrks fine and give SELECT ALL button too.

Using ASSM in 10g RAC with SAP

Hi,
It is recommended to use ASSM (Automatic Segment Space Management) with using 10g RAC with SAP. Our deployment is currently a single instance database that is not using ASSM. We plan to convert this single instance database to a 10g RAC database. I wanted to know what the supported method is to convert to ASSM, during this process.
Will it require an export and import of the database?

of course you can move tables (w/o longs) via ALTER TABLE MOVE... but why do you may want to do that?
ALTER TABLE MOVE is an OFFLINE action - nobody can access the table during the move.
DBMS_REDEFINITION (used by the BRTOOLS) is ONLINE. Normal work can proceed while the data is copied.
With ALTER TABLE MOVE you've to touch every single table (ca 50.000-80.000 in a SAP installation) by hand. PLUS you've to rebuild each index on each table by hand.
The BRTOOLS do all that for you. In parallel if you want to.
Moreover the BRTOOLS provide extensive logging in case any error should occur. ALTER TABLE MOVE does not.
So better forget about ALTER TABLE MOVE... use the BRTOOLS - they are not that bad

Does managing Oracle 10g RAC with ASM require full root access?

We currently have three entirely separate support areas, Unix, Storage and DBA. We're now considering using Oracle 10g RAC with ASM and as part of the assessment trying to work out if we can still draw similar support boundaries. I know that installing RAC and configuring ASM requires root access but will DBA continue to need root access to manage & support RAC? If so, does anyone know if the commands they need can be RBAC'd or if we just need to share root access going forwards. I've had a look at a number of docs including http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/rac.102/b14197/toc.htm. which is fairly informative but none of them seem to mention the requirement for root access on Solaris. I'm guessing they just assume that it's available, but that's not generally the case in our environment.
All advice / info welcome!

I would have thought that the only reason you would need root access once RAC and ASM had been set up would be to add more disks to the ASM configuration. This would be needed to change the ownership on the raw LUNs or to make additions to metasets (SVM/Oban) or diskgroups (VxVM/CVM). Beyond that, I can't imagine needing root access.
I'm sure others will chime in if they can think of other reasons!

10g RAC with only one node

We are planning to have 10g eventually with 2 nodes in the next 2 weeks. We would like to start preparation, can we install it on our first node and then complete the install when the second is in place.

You start your prepration on Node1 straight away and can only Implement RAC when Node2 in its place.

As per metalink i have find that this problem is fixed with Patch:4679769

Also you clusterware installation installs to an ORACLE_HOME.
Oracle does only make a differentiation, if it has to be clear, that you got a clusterware home and a database home.
Normally if a patch is referring to $ORACLE_HOME (and the patch can be used for clusterware & database), it just means the installation directory of the oracle software installed.

Database recovery from the server backup - 10g Oracle with Linux

My server OS is Linux and nightly we are taking a whole logical volumes backup as it is and databses are not shutdown.
so i would like to know how much worth keeping this copy in recovery purposes as it is taking few hours to copy all daily.
If some one can share some points would be appriciated.

What kind of backup is it please explain, what tool are you using for this logical volume backups? Are you sure that if you logical volume backup starts at 10:00, everything is logically frozen at that point in time and if recovery needed, everything will be restored at exact 10:00? Since oracle database is open on logical volumes, during backup of logical volumes, your database files will not be consistent and hence backup of database is not valid and will not work (unless you have some utility to logical freeze everything during backup to make backup consistent).
I would recommend you to configure the oracle database backup (hot or RMAN) and put backup on a logical volume and configure backup of that logical volume and remove the logical volume from backup list where your database exists. Database backup should finish before backup of logical volume statrts

ps -ef|grep ASM
and

I forget to display correcting info.
We set up crs, asm and db in 3 separate home dir.
is it wrong?

Having problems in ocfs2 while installing oracle 10g rac on linux as 4

this is the frist time i am try to install oracle rac based on three PCs after installing ocfs2 when i try to configure nodes through console i see the following msg "Could not start cluster stack .this must be resolved before any OCFS2 file system can be mounted "

Hi.
If you are using raw devices for ASM, I would not expect there to be a problem. I would have thought all you have to do is:
- Stop Oracle from starting automatically on reboot.
- Reboot the server and upgrade the OS.
- Make sure all the prerequisites for the new OS are meet (check the isntall guide).
- Startup Oracle.
Note. It may be wise to do a "$ORACLE_HOME/bin/relink all" to make sure.
If you are using ASMLib with ASM, then you will also need to upgrade your ASMLib software, as this is kernel version specific.
Of course, I've never had to do this, so don't take my word for it :) Maybe an SR on Metalink is in order.

Yes! I resolved the problem by applying the 9.2.0.3 patch. However, ocfs is not working properly. Sometime I got I/O problem or used one node to create tablespace but the other node can not see it right away. May be is because I use version 1.0 of ocfs.o. I am trying to find newer version of ocfs.o. If you know where to get it please let me know.

Linux Cluster File System partitions for 10g RAC

Hi Friends,
I planned to install 2 Node Oracle 10g RAC on RHEL and I planned to use Linux File system itself for OCR,Voting Disk and datafiles (no OCFS2/RAW/ASM)
I am having SAN storage.
I would like to know how do i create shared/cluster partitions for OCR,Voting Disk and Datafiles (common storage on SAN).
Do i need to install any Linux cluster file system for creating these shared partitions (as we have sun cluster in solaris)?
If so let me know what versions are supported and provide the necessary Note / Link
