10G upgrade from 9i
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use dbua to upgrade a database from 9i standard to 10g enterprise? Thanks in advance.
Yes, you could.
Moving From the Standard Edition to the Enterprise Edition
Note:
If you have a Standard Edition database at a release prior to Oracle Database 10g, you can change it to an Enterprise Edition database by first installing the Enterprise Edition and then following the normal upgrade procedures, as described in this manual.

Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]
Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the
SAP note 1862446 - Inventory
load failed... OPatch cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home
and re-create the oracle inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.
Is there a solution to this problem.
Following is the error that I am getting when I try to Install the patches

Challenges while Upgrading from OBIEE 10g to 11g
Hi Gurus,
This is Kiran again. This time I am back with the upgradation issues. We have a client which is currently on OBIEE 10g. All components are already configured in OBIEE 10g with client on RPD, Catalog and implemented all security levels for those.
Now the challenge is to upgrade all activities which we have configured in OBIEE 10g. I have seen lot of stuff online and understood how to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to OBIEE 11g by simply clicking on ua.bat file. But I am unable to understand the process how it is upgrading the securities and environments.
Can anyone help me out by providing necessary stuff I need to take care of before taking the decision to upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g.
And also please clear me whether we will have any challenges in upgrading process. If yes, then what kind of challenges we will face and what kind of necessary steps we need to implement to resolve it.
What kind of Architecture we need to follow?
How Schedulers will get upgraded?
Please help me out with your real experiences (Not the online websites). Your response will be highly appreciated and it will help lot of OBIEE professionals who are in the process of upgradation.
Thanks in Advance to all OBIEE GURUS.
KiranHi Valli,
There is really great information available in this link. But I would like to know whether any one faced any issues while upgrading from OBIEE 10g to 11g. Please do share us few issues....

Report upgraded from 6i to 10g not displaying data.
Hi,
I upgraded one report from 6i to 10g,
When I'm running the report for the same set of data.
After changing the layout for few fields in the subframe.
first time it has shown the data in the report output but now same report with same data is not displying the output.
I'm sure this is due to some layout problem.(may be due to upgradation from 6i to 10g)
Please guide me to resolve this problem.Hello,
How do you execute your Reports ?
Do you execute it from the Builder ?
If you execute it from the Builder, do you use Run Web Layout or Run Paper Layout ?
(If you have upgraded a Reports From 6i, there is no web layout , so you have to use the Run paper Layout
The web layout is something new that appeared in Reports 9.0.2)

Hello everyone;
We are in the process of looking into upgrading from our current Oracle 9.1.0.8 to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2): Windows
We would like to download and install the 10.2.0.1 base release (Oracle Software). When I go on SAP Marketplace
https://websmp210.sap-ag.de/oracle-download and goto the (Software Download) section and click on
Oracle 10.2 Software (32-bit versions) to download I receive a error NO DATA AVAILABLE.
Is there another area to download the Oracle Software? or do I need to purchase a CD from SAP or can I download this base release straight from Oracle?
Thanks for your time and have a great day.Hello Pellegrino,
just download it from the SAP container for each product .. for example
-> Installations and Upgrades - Entry by Application Group -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0 -> Windows Server -> ORACLE

The optimizer changed after upgrade from 8i to 10g
I have upgraded my Oracle database from 8i (8.1.7.3) to 10g (10.2.0.3). After upgraded, there's some SQLs are with performance issue that the response time is very slow. The SQL can run very fast (around 1 seconde) in the pre-upgrade environment. Also, after generating the execution plan, there's different from the original enivronment (8i) which the query using some full table scan instead of index scan originally used in 8i.
The optimizer_mode of 8i is RULE and it's CHOOSE when upgraded.
My questions are:
1. Do I have any init.ora parameters setting in 10g environment which differ from 8i?
2. What method of analyzing tables is appropriate to use in 10g? Will this affect the performance like my case?
Thanks,
WaiPlease have a look to following threads:

Upgrading from 9,2.0.6 (HP-UX) to 10g or 11g on Redhat Linux?
Generally what are the steps to upgrade from 9,2.0.6 (HP-UX) to 10g or 11g on Redhat Linux?
Can I exp the database on 9.2.0.6 (HP-UX) then imp the database to a new 10/11g database (RedHat Linux)?
Is this the simplest way?To change platforms require the database instance be re-built and / or the data moved using one of the following methods:
Export / Import to include the use of Datapump facilities. all versions support Export/Import but for Datapump 10.1.0.2 or higher is required
Transportable Tablespaces 10G or Later
RMAN Convert Database functions. 10G or Later
Streams Replication
Create Table As Select (CTAS)
Oracle Golden Gate
As your database is 9.2.0.6 you can only use export/import. Please refer to the MOS doc 733205.1 for further clarification -

SQLException:Connection timed out- after upgrading from oracle9i to 10g
Hi,
Recently we upgraded from oracle 9i to 10g.
We are using Oracle JDBC Driver version - 10.1.0.5.0 .
In the application, when RMI server starts, the connectionpool (developed using stack) will be filled with 10 instances of fresh connections.
After keeping the RMI server idle for some time ( >24 hours ) , the first transaction sent to the Database (using the connection instance popped out from stack(connectionpool) ) terminates with following exception and from the second transaction onwards everything works normally.

If am connecting to oracle9i(with Oracle JDBC Driver version - 9.0.2.0.0) ,everything works fine.
Can anyone help me out to solve this issue?I attempted several upgrades and we decided it was better to implement the content under 10g fresh rather than attempt an upgrade.
After 3-5 attempts through patching non of them provided us with re-produceable steps and we had different errors each time - mind you this was a few months back after initial release of upgrade patches. -
Help required in upgrading from 9i to 10g server
Hi All,
Our company is upgrading from oracle 9i to 10g in Unix environment.
As a Oracle developer my work is to ensure that oracle 9i programmes should suceessfully work in 10g also.
Please provide me some good links and articles about any pitfalls or code that has to be changed. You may want to read this manual:
Oracle® Database New Features Guide
10g Release 2 (10.2)
Part Number B14214-02
so you get acquainted with the new features and you can assess, according to the new features, which are the most important in your case.

After upgradation from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g,one proc is throwing error
recently upgraded from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g. We have some Oracle procedures which are not working in Oracle 10g.
A section of code from one of the procedures looks somewhat like the code below:
Declare
Cursor c_matched_records (…..) is
Select a.field 1, b.field2
From table1 a, table2 b
Where a.field3=b.field1
FOR UPDATE;
BEGIN
For records in c_matched_records
LOOP
-- Continue processing
-- Update records
COMMIT;
END LOOP;
END;This section of the code throws out the following error in Oracle 10g
ORA-01002: fetch out of sequence during PUT outputFile file
However this code was working fine in Oracle 9i.
please help me with this?
ThanksI believe you are lucky that the pl/sql is okay in Oracle 9i. How about remove the commit statement? Why do you need it in the loop. I look up metalink. You may refer to article ID 257914.1
