10gAS minimal install

At the initial phase of the install you must choose one of three possible types of OracleAS.
I will be choosing J2EE and Web Cache, does anyone know whether it is possible to reduce further the amount of s/w components (124 in total).
I want to customise the install to minimize as much as is possible the amount of s/w being installed on my system for security.
Any help MUCH appreciated!!
Cheers
Steve

Any further granularity is only possible with standalone installations of Web Cache or Oracle HTTP Server or Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J). These standalone components are available from OTN download, they are not on the CD.

Any idea on doing a minimal install of Oracle 9i
    on a windows based PC ( software < 500M ) ?
The purpose is a demo drive with oracle on it.
    I need the oracle software ( basically 2 executables: oracle.exe and lsnrctl.exe + a couple of dll I guess ).
Our application based on oracle needs "Full text search"
capabilities and has some complex sql statement -> 9i LITE for these reasons is not enough.
    D>

No way to install <500MB. Minimal configuration (Personal Oracle) requires 2.85 GB, according to the installation manual.
BTW, your loook on Oracle is too simple. Just having oracle.exe, lsnrctl.exe and a few dll's is by far not enough.

  • Minimal install of oas

    Hi!
Is there a way to make a minimal install of the IAS. I just want to have apache and jserv with the plsql-mod and jsp-possibility.
When I choose the "http-server only" option all kinds of stuff comes along (portal, enterprise mgr etc.). I want to have a clean minimal install. Is that possible. Or do I have to install everything and uninstall the unwanted things?
    Kind Regards
    /Stefan

Solaris relies very heavily on Java, even certain installers and configuration programs use it. IMO not installing Java on Solaris will leave you with a rather useless system.

  • DB and 10gAS infrastructure install...

    Hello:
We have an ERP product just like Oracle eBusiness suite (Oracle Applications) built using Oracle DB, Forms, Discoverer, Reports, Portal etc. for small and midsize companies (very low foot print compared to Oracle eBusiness suite). Our product is deployed/installed at customer sites who buy the product. Most of our customers are small and they would have one box for 10gAS and one for DB.
Based on above, we are debating how to install infrastructure DB and our applications database…
    1.     It is better to have the Infrastructure database on the same server as the Mid Tier as it installs by default? And then just connect to the application’s database on a separate database server (create a link from infrastructure to applications DB)?
    2.     Should we put the Infrastructure instance on the Database Server in a separate instance from the application instance?
    3.     Should we (or can we) put the Infrastructure in an instance on the database server and then add our application schema inside this same instance so we minimize the number of instances on the production database server.
    Please suggest…

Based on experience working with Application Server since the 8iAS days, one can install it in a very complex spread out manner. Unfortunately, the complicated deployments are almost impossible to upgrade. When Service Requests are created, it seems that the upgrade process is only really tested on the simplest configuration. If you want a supportable/upgradeable configuration, you may want to consider the simplest configuration as long as performance is acceptable during normal day to day operations.
One caveat to putting the application schema in the infrastructure database is you limit your database upgrades/patches to only those supported by the application server family.

  • 8i minimal install on web server

    Hello.
I have to install Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition on our Web Server (NT 4.0 + IIS 4.0).
    Provided that:
    1) this is my second experience with Oracle install
    2) I don't want any development tool on this box, only those needed to manage a database and related site (WebDB listener)
can some expert out there suggest me how to accomplish this custom install?
Thanks for your patience and support.
    Alex

Clarification: this is only needed for https traffic. It's not a mail server, so that part is not necessary.

Attempting to install a 10g Infrastructure (10.1.2.0.4) on an RedHat ES 4.0, update 2 Server (Brand new clean install of OS followed by install of Infrastructure.) System is a AMD64 3000+ with 2GB memory (we will be loading the AS on this same server, so we went with extra memory.)

This is the production version of the Oracle applications server, so I would assume that if a number of people were having a problem, I would see something in either OTN or Metalink and I don’t see it in either…

I see several others have done this without a problem so I home they can help… Ideas from anyone?
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael!
The problems I had with SSO were way different than your problems. What came to my mind is to check the network settings of the machine. What I usually do is to set the hostname and the domain in the /etc/sysctl.conf .I have a ES40u2 were I had no problems whatsoever.

  • Port forwarding to minimal install Solaris 8

    Ok this is my situation:
I have a SS10 as a nat firewall/router running ipfilter. It has one connection to the external world and one to my interal subnet.
On the internal subnet are two SS20 One SS20 Has a bare minimum Sol 8 install and just runs apache. The other has a normal install and is intened for use as a DB server but also has apache installed but not used.
When I forward port 80 to the webserver I cannot connect with a browser or telnet to its address on port 80 nothing. I can see the apache default web page when I access it from within its own subnet or if I take the router out and connect it directly.
At first I thought this meant there was somthing wrong with ipfilter but ifpfilter works. When I activate Apache on the DB server and forward port 80 to it instead everything works fine. I can see the Apache default page from outside the router.
I think this means that there is some package needed for the port forwarding to work that is not installed on the Webserver. I had no Idea the server being forwarded to had to do anything.
Does anyone who know more about routing and maby rpc binding have any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Sorry for the long post
    Ian

    Greetings,
The web-server doesn't need to be aware of the fact that the connection is being tunneled through the firewall. What it does need to know is a default route sending traffic back out through the firewall. If the config works with the DB server and not the web server, I would guess that the web server may not have a proper default route set to return packets which have arived from the outside. If you don't want the web server to have a default route, you could set up a proxy server rather that a stateful packet filter....

  • What is in a minimal KDE install?

    Hi all,
I love the philosophy of Arch in keeping things simple. I also like KDE and am trying to install as few packages as possible. I know to do a minimal KDE install, I do this:
    pacman -S kdebase kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere phonon-vlc
My question is: what does this minimal install include? I don't need lots of games and screensaves, but things like Kate, Konsole, Dolphin, Konqueror, System Settings, archiver, file diff, universal file viewer (Okular I think), etc... are very useful. I also like the visual effects, like fading and what not. So what does the base include and what do I need to install to get the things above I want? A quick Google search and I found this:
    konqueror konsole kate kdiff3 kde-misc/konq-plugins kde-base/dolphin kde-base/okular
But what about the themes and visual effects?

How about running this command and finding for yourself?
    [karol@black ~]$ pacman -S kdebase kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere phonon-vlc
:: There are 11 members in group kdebase:
    :: Repository extra
    1) kde-wallpapers 2) kdebase-dolphin 3) kdebase-kdepasswd 4) kdebase-kdialog
    5) kdebase-keditbookmarks 6) kdebase-kfind 7) kdebase-konq-plugins
    8) kdebase-konqueror 9) kdebase-konsole 10) kdebase-kwrite 11) kdebase-plasma
    Enter a selection (default=all):
There's no kde-l10n-yourlanguagehere package, you have to pick one for your your language.

  • Minimal SL install on Flash Drive

I had previously done this with Tiger, but so far haven't had any luck with Snow Leopard. Anyway..
Basically, I want a bare-bones install of Snow Leopard onto a USB flash drive. I don't need any of the extra programs such as Front Row, iTunes, whatever. All I want is an install of Snow Leopard with the basic utilities (Disk Utility, Terminal, etc.) and Safari.
I need it to deploy pre-made images onto Macs for quick re-imaging. We also do the same type of thing on our Windows machines and managed to get the bare-bones Windows install on a flash drive down to a little over 600mb. Now I realize that 600mb probably won't happen with Snow Leopard, but I am looking for something around or under 2gb.

I'm not sure how it relates to "quick re-imaging" but the easiest way I know to make a minimal install of Snow Leopard is to create a partition on a HD, install the whole thing on it normally (taking advantage of the options not to install any unnecessary extras like common printers or extra languages) & then start deleting stuff from it you don't need.
If you are intent on a bare bones version, use Monolingual to remove excess language support, carefully dig down into /Library/Application Support looking for items supporting the apps you remove & other similar /Library/ items & remove them too.
Test the result for functionality & once you know it works as expected, clone (not copy) the partition to the Flash Drive, making sure it uses a compatible partition scheme (GPT or APM but not MBR).

  • Can't install Portal in a 9i Database

    Hi
I can get PORTAL to install in an 8.1.7R3 database with no problems. However, when I give the Portal Installer the SYS Password and HOST:PORT:NAME the installer can't log into the database.
Originally, I assumed that it may have to do with SYS must login as SYSDBA requirement and I set O7_DICTIONARY_ACCESSIBILITY=TRUE, bounced the database and restarted the Portal Installer. Still the installer can't login to a 9i database as SYS.
    Thank you for your time.

I have 9ias and Portal 3.0.9 running on 9i db on RedHat 7.2.
It was really no problem. The first key is to downgrade your
binutils until the entire install is finished and stable. Then
the 9i install goes in great. Next do the
    07_dictionary_accessibility=TRUE thing....
After that, don't even try to let the portal config assistant
run. Even if you get past the can't log in as sysdba thing,
You'll NEVER get past the insufficient pool size thing. So, just
do the install: If enterprise, do not allow Portal to install at
all, do it in another install after. Otherwise, what I did, was
a minimal install. You'll need jdk 1.2.2 from blackdown for this
(even though you need 1.1.8 for 9i and the rest of 9ias). once
the install is finished, the Portal config assistant will kick
off, it WILL error, so just cancel it and do execute the silent
version of the installs (linstall, winstall). After that, it
will run slow and or timeout CONSTANTLY, so, all I did to
finally fix that was to delete or comment out anything that had
to do with the MTS dispatchers.... once that was done, my portal
    runs like a shot.
Now if I could only figure out how to bulk load users from a
    table from an old system...

  • Minimum Install for Using ODBC Driver.

What is the minimum installation required for using ODBC from a client machine.
EG I have an application in Access and I want to connect to a table on my oracle server. The user machine, has Access installed, and I don't wnat to install the whole 50 megs(OK I exagerate A little but not much) of NET 8 client just so they can look at a table in Access from Oracle.
What specific elements are necessary in the install, TCP/IP, Named pipe protocol adapters?, required support files?, SQL*plus 8?
Say its a version 8.0.4 server for arguments sake and I want the least hassle setting up 50 users who already have office installed with the latest version of MS ODBC32, they have no Oracle software on their machines.
    null

Unfortunately, you'll need to do at least a minimal Oracle client install. While we probably don't actually rely on everything that gets installed here, we don't test our driver with anything less than a minimal install.

  • Installing Oracle Linux 6 For 11g

I'm downloading Oracle Linux 6,2 64-bit with the single intention to simply install Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition and I've never used or installed Oracle Linux before. I know that in order to install Oracle 11g database, I will need to have some kind of graphic utility like X but I do not need a Desktop Environment like Gnome or KDE (which is not permitted on servers per company policy). Can someone tell me what exactly or which specific options I will need to minimally install Oracle database 11g? I don't want to install the entire DVD content to my server but rather know what packages are required and ONLY install those. I don't know if the Linux installer has a fairly self explanatory / easy to use options based on me using this system as a database server but if anyone can please help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Sorry everyone but I've retured back from vacation to focus back on getting Oracle Database 11.2.0.3 installed on Oracle Linux 6.2 64-bit. I've got the O.S. up and I thought I selected all the correct / required packages to perform the standard installation using the Universal Installer but it's not working for some reason. I'm unable to forward my 'xclock' session from the database server host to my workstation (Ubuntu 12.04 Linux). When I open a terminal window on my Ubuntu Linux machine and type 'xclock', the application opens w/o any issues. When I SSH into my Oracle database server and attempt to forward the X11 session over to my machine, I get:

  • Server Side Install on Solaris

    Hello,
I have OWB 9.2.0.2 client on WinXP (Design Time Install) and Oracle 9.2.0.2 database on Solaris. I have to install Server Side Components and run Runtime Assistant to create Runtime Repository and Runtime Access User.
I have downloaded OWB 9.2.0.2.8 for Solaris.
When I start Universal Installer I get message that I must have different Oracle Home for this installation. If I enter different home on same user, what will happen with old environment home variable ORACLE_HOME? This database is important and I don't know what will happen with environment variables? So, I created another user and new oracle home "oracle9i_owb". When I set environment and start installation \usr\....\Disk1\stage\Components\oracle.swd.oui\2.2.0.14.0\1\DataFiles\Expanded\install\solaris\runInstaller.sh there is a mesasage: %PROD_HOME%\install: does't exist.
So I created environment variable PROD_HOME that looks on ....\Expanded\ but it doesn't work. (PROD_HOME is inside new ORACLE_HOME due to instructions in guide that came with this installation.)
    What is the problem here?
    Thanx,
    Branimir

  • (SOLVED) Full install on a 2gb USB flash drive?

So here's the deal, I am not sure if this is the best place to post this. I am a newbie so I am just thinking out of my %^& here.
I love Arch more than any other distro, and I want to bring it with me. As of now I use Arch on my laptop and desktop. However it's missing on my work computer. It would be best if I didn't mess with the work computers, so I am curious about installing Arch on a USB.
If I went with a minimal install, keeping things around 1.5gb with most applications and whatnot installed, would I be able to boot it and work with it and not have any problems?
How could this be done, would it be possible to:
    - Partition the USB, one partition for the boot (ext 2, primary boot) and another partition for / and home etc.
If this does in fact work, would it be slow as death running completely off a USB? If that's the case how difficult would it be to copy the system to RAM but keep /usr running off the USB so configs and files could be saved?
I know there are other distros that work well off a USB like Puppy Linux (which supports saving configs and files etc.). I have been using lubuntu live because it is similar to my Arch setup, but doesn't support saving onto the USB. I would prefer to stick with Arch the whole way.

running from USB for me has been WAY worth the learning of grub2 and all the other things. I run a 16 gig stick and an 8 gig stick. standard installs and have grub 2 doing double duty to boot other ISOs when desired. The 8 gig stick has 2 partitions and arch boots sweetly off partition 2. I have gotten good enough at manually modifying the grub2 cfg file. I don't use any of the errr, clever stuff that's spread out in /etc for grub2. heck with that I thought!
Also: I just mount some other drive to save bigger files. Have a vbox file on the internal drive that can esily be moved around as well. Totally totally ARCH works fantastic as a stock install on USB. I figured why complicate/dilute my learning (as I'm only approaching advanced ability)  by even thinking about other distro. If there's wasn't ARCH I'd go BSD, which would be very challenging due to drivers, flash, vbox etc. Just My brief though here.
UPDATE: forgot the point somewhat. Thinking to add here: I get (regular install of) ARCH to run on a 1 gig flash stick which coincidentally I'm creating right now. In fact it has a vfat partition 1 and an 800 meg ext2 partition 2. Lots of ways to trim stuff out after install. There's a couple of threads about deleting locals and stuff here. Can save, I think it was 2 or 3 hundred meg quickly.
One thing is running a windows manager and not a desktop environment of course/obviously.
    best wishes to all!
