10GB iPod w. Firewire and connecting to iVoice sound system

I have a relatively old iPod with row of four touch button controls above the track wheel. It was purchased in Dec 04 and I believe it's a third generation iPod. It connects to my iMac via a Firewire connection.
When I dock it into the iVoice speaker system the controls freeze and the battery doesn't charge. I first tried a Magnavox system and returned it after experiencing the same problem.
Is it possible that all of the speaker systems available today are only compatible with the newer iPods with USB connection
Or, is there a solution to this problem besides upgrading to a newer generation iPod?

Found out that my iPod was the last version with a firewire connection and the sound systems on the market today only support iPods with the USB 2.0 connection

• IMac 10.6.8, Snow Leopard with iTunes 11.0.1. loss of wifi speed when connecting a Bose Sound System via bluetooth

Hello, I have an iMac 10.6.8, Snow Leopard with iTunes 11.0.1. When connecting my Bose Sound System via bluetooth the wifi downloadspeed goes from snappy to a crawl, disconnecting the bluetooth connection, the downloadspeed goes up again. Don't have this problems with the Sound System when connecting it to my iPad. I like to mention too, that the downloadspeed of my iPad is always better than of my iMac. Are there any experiences concerning this problem? Thank you in advance.

• Firewire and Connecting w/ Computer

alright to start i will post a picture of what i want you to see:

alright so here's my problem:
I have one of the older 15GB iPods with the 4 buttons on top and then the wheel thing below the buttons. It has worked fine for the past couple years.
My problem is that since downloading the newest iTunes and iPod update, the comp can't find my iPod. I use a gateway desktop and i think the reason that it is not connecting is the firewire port. WHen i bought the iPod 2 years ago it came with the iPod, a cord, a wall charger, and a firewire converter.
I dont remember the numbers but the firewire converter is about 2 inches long and goes from like a 9-pin to a 4-pin firewire connector or something like that. As shown in the picture the image on the left is the one that the cord connects from my iPod into, and then the smaller picture on the right goes straight into the computer, the part that goes into the computer is a little bent so i figured that i should go but a new firewire converter.
The people at BestBuy had never even seen the converted i showed them and they told me that my comp probably had a place to plug in the cord straight into the computer (the image on the right that goes into the converter). I looked on the back of my comp and awesomely enough i found a place to plug in the bigger firewire piece, except when i plug it in there it only CHARGES my iPod but does say that it is connected to the computer for transfer of music via iTunes... can anyone help me?!

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try to reset the iPod while it is connected to the Firewire port of your computer. Several attempts may be necessary.

• Ipod function jumping and connection errors

I have an iphone 4, when i was running the old software in it i never had an issue with ipod jumping, now with IOS4.2 in it its like theres a scratched CD playing and it jumps all the time, i havent changed anything and its only when docked, if i play via bluetooth its fine
Other problem i have is when i connect to an iphone ready stereo it comes up fine sometimes but others it comes up saying its not optimized for iphone version, sometimes it comes up and plays with no sound others its just not working and i have to reset
im loosing faith in it now, all my music is on it and i listen to it every day, im trmpted to go back to the 3gs and loose all the other problems with this phone too

I had the same problem after updating ITunes and the IPhone software to v.3.1.3. My IPod got frozen during the update and, after attempting to restore, I got the following message:
The IPod Touch "Ipod Touch" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1604)
I checked Apple's support page that the More info button links to, and for this particular error code it explains:
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, try these steps to resolve the issue:
1. Connect iPhone to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
2. Restore and wait for error 1604.
3. When prompted click OK.
4. Close and re-open iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
5. iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
6. Try to restore again.
I tried the above steps (after re-connecting the ipod to my PC several times with no significant result) and it worked! All the original content was synced back to my ipod, so it's all good!
Good luck with the above steps, hope it works for u too.

• Can I Connect an iPod Nano to Logitech Z-680 surround sound system?

I want to know if I can connect my  iPod Nano 16GB to my Logitech Z-680 Surround Sound System.  I already connect my MacBook to the system by plugging into the three plugs in the back of the controller then those three plugs merge into one plug which I then plug into the headphone jack on the side of my MacBook.  Since the battery life of my MacBook is 2 hours, at best, Id like to use my iPod to play music.  I tried plugging in the plug that I use for connecting my MacBook into the headphone jack of my iPod but I could not get any sound.  The single plug seemed a bit small for the iPod.  There are, also, two other jacks on the Logitech Z-680 controller, which are located on the front of the controller.  One is for headphones and the other I am not sure.  It has a musical note symbol above it.  I have never used that jack before.  Any suggestions/guidance is greatly appreciated.

This video guide should explain it:

• IPhone 3GS and Nissan 2010 Bose Sound System Issue

I have a 2010 Nissan Altima Coupe with a Bose sound system and iPod intergration. Until recently everything worked well with my iPhone 3G S, however now on occasion, the iPod function stops dead in the middle of a book or sound. When I turn the power on an off, the car iPod system is still locked. The other functions of the sound system like regular and sattellite radio work fine. When I disconnent the iPhone there is a "Check Device" message on the car system screen. The only way to unfreeze the system is to turn of the ignition and restart the car. It seemed to start doing this after I installed the iPhone iOS4 upgrade last month. Anyone else seeing this?

Same here. Brand new Nissan Altima Coupe with the Bose PY05F premium sound system. Stuttering, staggering and flat out freezes up.

• Video iPods, USB2, Firewire and older macs - a different approach

I've been trolling the discussion boards here because I find myself with the same problem many others have noted here: I just bought a family member a Video iPod (5G) for Christmas, I realize they no longer support firewire, only USB2 and I only own an older eMac that has firewire but NOT USB2 and no PCI slots for USB2 cards. I await Christmas with dread when, after opening their gift, they'll want to put content on their new 5G iPod and we'll sit around all day while that happens.
I'll not get into why Apple dropped firewire from the 5G iPods.
My different approach is that what is needed is a bridge connector or hub that will bridge a USB2 cable to a firewire port.
There are a number of combo hubs but these are just 2 hubs in one with each bus (USB2 and firewire) having it's own separate connection back to the host computer. And if you connect the USB cacle back to a host with USB1, System Profiler will tell you rthat your USB2 ports areoperating at "Up to 12 Mb/sec"
Even the Universal Dock will will not get USB2 speeds out of a mac with USB1 ports. It clearly states, :...allows you to connect your iPod with the cable that came with it."
I've done a lot of searching and the closest I've come up with is this:
http://www.gizmodo.com/archives/pixela-pixuvcdu1w-firewire-to-usb-20-bridge-cabl e-016285.php
but that goes the wrong way. Plus it's expensive ($80 - $90).
It's designed to connect a firewire equiped DV camcorder to a PC that only has USB2 ports.
To me this sounds like an opportunity for some of the 3rd party vendors playing in the Apple world (Griffin Technology, Belkin, XtremeMac etc) to fill what is obviously a a major need here. Reading these forums there seem to be many many people that have older Macs without USB2 and 5G iPods.
We need a USB2 to Firewire bridge connector for all of people with older macs and 5G iPods.
Someone please help us.
Bob Jakuc

Thank you for your response. I mention this in my original post. In fact, I bought one of these thinking it might solve my problem. It doesn't. In effect the D-Link DFB-H7 is 2 hubs in one enclosure. To use the firewire ports you have to attach the D-Link to your computer via a firewire cable. To use the USB2 ports, you have to attach the D-Link to your computer via a USB cable. You can't have a single, unified host connection AND use all the ports on the D-Link. The USB ports on the D-Link aren't even active if you don't connect to your computer via USB.
I'm upset for two reasons: 1) the D-Link hub advertising isn't explicit about the need to have separate hub to host connections for each bus you want to use and 2) since my eMac only has USB 1.1 ports, the USB2 ports in the D-Link are 'stepped down' to USB 1.1 speeds (12 Mbps).
I'm also frustrated because I'd add a USB2 cardbus card to my eMac but it looks like the slot over the CD-ROM drive is only for Airport/Airport Extreme cards.
Does anyone have any info on that? Is the slot over the CD-ROM drive in a 1 GHz eMac a general purpose cardbus/PCMCIA type II slot or is it just for Airport cards?
Maybe I'll ask over on the discussions for the eMac.
Thanks again.

Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then restore via iTunes:

If necessary:
Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot

• Ipod Nano, Disconnect and Connect while it's Physicaly connected.

I got a problem with every Ipod Nano I had. My computer was acting just like I would have disconnect it and reconnect it during it was connected. This was happening 2 or 3 times /min.
I found the problem. There's 6 USB 2 Ports on my computer. They are in group of two and located on different places (behind and on the front). This problem happens when My ipod was plugged with an other thing on the same pair of USB ports. The problem is solved when you connect only your Nano in one of the two port ... let the other USB port empty.
I hope I'll prevent peoples to send back their iPod...

• Why does my ipod keep disconnecting and connecting every half a second?

I had my iPod touch (4th gen, ios6) synced to a desktop and when I tried connecting it to my new laptop to sync it keeps connecting then disconnecting every half a second (flashing on and off) and will not connect at all. Do I need to do something with my old computer? I don't think it's something wrong with the cord because it connects to the wall just fine.

Different conductors/contacts are used for charging and dats. Thus, it still could be a bad cable.
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reboot the computer
- Try another USB port and cable
- Iphone 5 lightning port charging problem - SOLUTION!
- Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Try on another computer to help determine if iPod or computer problem
- If it works with other computer that indicates a problem with your computer. Try
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem with all compouters, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

• IPod Classic works and connects but does not synchronise

Hi! I have a 2007 160gb iPod Classic and I know at 8 years old you'd expect things to be falling apart, but I'm not ready for Bryan the iPod to die just yet and if I can fix him I'd very much like to
So the iPod has the standard age related issues of jumping a bit in songs and making loud whirring noises but I'm cool with that - it's characterful haha. The main issue at the moment is that the iPod won't synchronise on any software. I've tried to synchronise on several computers with both iTunes and Spotify and when I press the sync button this happens:
iTunes / Spotify does nothing
The iPod makes some noises and shows the 'Synchronising' screen for about 4 seconds
The iPod goes back to the 'connected' screen
iTunes sometimes freezes, or still does nothing
I've tried resetting the iPod, which was hard because iTunes kept freezing - but I did it! Made no difference.
The iPod is recognised by the computer/software and shows up in My Computer
It's fully charged
I'm using Windows 8 and the most recent iTunes
Help me if you can! Please! Thanks

Hi Brendan,
I am having a similar issue where I have recently updated my PC and managed to re install itunes and brought my library across however problem starts when I cannot transfer my latest music to my ipod classic.
Tried restoring it etc, it managed to transfer my latest music but delete my old ones and it wouldn't sync with my itunes library.
Please advise..
Thanks

• 5th Gen Ipod Classic Charging and Connecting problem. Battery has been changed and no improvement.

I have a 5th gen classic 30 GB ipod, that will not charge with an adaptor or USB 2.0  It also will not display the "Do not  disconnect" when connected to a USB 2.0 conector and is not being picked up by my computer (Windows Vista).  It was originally on a XP computer years ago.   Battery change did not help.  I have a lot of music I would like to get off of it, but my computer will not recognize and the new battery is draining down. Help me.

there is also the posibility of it being fried
have you considered sending it for diagnostics?
the online place I use (digiexpress) charges $25 for diagnostics and estimate,
if you decide to have it fixed, they then add the cost of parts, or ship it back unfixed.
labor is included in the $25 fee
My classic had 2 batterises changed by myself to no avail, until I decided to send it in to realize the board was fried. waste of money changing batteries, iPod went to the recycling bin. now i leave it to the pros and actually save $$.
