10Gb SFP for UTP?
I need to build a new 3850 switch which requires some server to be connected to a few 10Gb ports which i need to buy the 3580-nm-4-10Gb module for the first time. Was tying to build up a BOM and finding the correct SFP to buy together with the module from this site
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/transceiver-modules/data_sheet_c78-455693.html
I didn't see any 10Gb SFP for copper, something similar to the GLC-T sfp for the 1Gb slot, the most relevant one would be the Twinax copper cable which comes with both ends of the sfp with the cable attached together. Now is this something that we buy to inter connect to server's 10Gb port?
Not too sure about the 10Gb SFP to connect to a server but if you guys and give me some of the example of the model that people would use that would be great!
Cheers,
Ben
Hi Benny,
That's interesting. I thinkg the Twinax active copper cable (with SFPs at both ends) is the way to go. But it depends on the interface on the other end - the server. The 10G server interfaces I've seen are normally having an SFP port, but... your have to check what the situation is at your end.
In this case though, I guess the only factor to go for the copper cable would be the price. If you have SFPs at both ends of the connection, you can go optical. It's more robust and reliable, and it's cheeper these days.

Boyan

UCS C240 M4 with Cisco UCS VIC1227 VIC MLOM - Dual Port 10Gb SFP+
Hi All,
Have a few UCS C-series questions:
If I have a UCS C240 M4 rack server with Cisco UCS VIC1227 VIC MLOM - Dual Port 10Gb SFP+, but do not have fabric interconnect(s), I cannot use the UCS VIC1227 for anything, can I? The VIC ports HAVE to be connected to the FI(s) in order to be integrated with the UCS Manager. There is no local UCS manager software running on the server itself, is there?
It is useless to have this card in the server without the FI(s), isn’t it?
The OS that is going to be installed on the server is not going to see those 10GB ports on the VIC, isn’t it?
And if there are no additional PCIe NICs installed in the server, I am stuck with the two 1GB onboard NICs, is that correct?
Any input is appreciated.do not have fabric interconnect(s), I cannot use the UCS VIC1227 for anything, can I?
The VIC 1227 can be used to integrate the server with UCSM, but that does NOT mean that is its unique function... the VIC 1227 is a CNA card that can be used whether your server is in standalone mode (no Fabric Interconnects) or integrated with UCSM.
If the server is not connected to a Fabric Interconnect (FI), it still has CIMC (Cisco Integrated Management Controller) which can be configured by attaching a monitor to the server and a keyboard, press F8 when you see the Cisco logo and then you can configure the IP, subnet, gateway, NIC mode and others... this may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHQBvwO7pUU

It is NOT useless to have the card in the server without the FIs, having the servers integrated only allows you to take advantage of the flexibility of Service Profiles but the VIC card still has the same capabilities whether you have an FI or not.
The OS that is going to be installed on the server is not going to see those 10GB ports on the VIC, isn’t it?
See above
And if there are no additional PCIe NICs installed in the server, I am stuck with the two 1GB onboard NICs, is that correct?

10GB SFP+ Direct Attached cables between 2 servers (crossover, support?)
Yes,
It is supported. If for some reason it does not work reboot the server. Best would be to get the cables from Intel as well.I am trying looking everywhere for this answer.
I am speccing out new servers and plan on have a direct connection between 2 of them. They are going to be sharing a lot of data together. I would like to have them connected via 10GB SFP+ adapters using direct attach copper. Basically using the copper as a crossover.
Is this supported? The plan is to have an Intel X520-DA1 single port adapter (PCIe card, not mezzanine) in each server.

Adding 10GB SFP+ to old 3750G/E stack
Hi guys,
my current stack consists of 2x WS-C3750E-24TD and 1x WS-C3750G-12S.
I would like to add 12 Ports of 10GB SFP+ SR somehow.
Is there a 10GB SFP+ SR fiber distribution switch that is compatible
with my stack?
Many thanks!Hi,
Ok the issue is here that none of the 3750X series switches support 12x10Gig SFP+ ports.
The max 10Gig ports on these switches is 4 and that is usually used for uplinks.
Your can get a 4500-X with 16 ports SFP/SFP+. The only issue is you lose the stacking capability.

Hi,
We have DS-C9124-0-K9 MDS 9124 4Gbps FC switch without SFPs, we have old "Agilentâ SFP Transceivers which we tried to put on DS-C9124-0-K9 but it's not suported.
1. question is there a way to use Agilent SFP Transceivers Agilent SFP Transceivers on our Cisco DS-C9124-0-K9;
2. question if we have to use Cisco SFPs, is it neccesery for SFPs on EVA to be Cisco too?
BRHi,
1. You cannot use the Agilent SFP for your MDS 9124 4G FC switch. Here is a link on which SFP is supported on the MDS platform:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps4159/ps6409/ps4358/product_data_sheet09186a00801bc698.html
2. You don't have to use the Cisco SFPs on the HP EVA, since the EVA might not detect it. All you have to match is the wavelength and the fiber type. Let's say you are using MMF and DS-SFP-FC4G-SW SFP, your EVA's optic should be for MMF, FC 4Gbps and using 850nm wavelength.

Which SFP for MM 62.5 Fiber
I am specking a SRW2008P-K9 switch for a customer. They are using MM 62.5 fiber. I need to know what Gig SFP will work for them. I am also quoting them a WS-C3750X-24P-S. I need the SFP for this also.
Hi Scott, if you're looking for less than 550 meter, a multi mode SFP such as MGBSX1 will do the trick.
If you're looking for info for the 3750, I'd recommend to post here

The cisco nexus interface is only detecting the type as
SFP-H10GB-CU1M, instead of SFP-H10GB-ACU7M. Is the PROSFP transceiver and cable supported by Cisco's Nexus? Is this a supported connection?
Thanks.... -
10Gig Copper SFP for Nexus F Series module (N7K-F248XP-25E)
Does Cisco have 10Gig Copper SFP which can be supported on Nexus platform in the F Series module (N7K-F248XP-25E)
Leo,
Thank you for the answer, you mentioned 10Gig Copper module in your reply (Part# N7K-F248XT-25E) but I already have Fiber Module (Part# N7K-F248XP-25E), I just need 2 10Gig copper ports for my storage and cant afford to buy a whole new Copper module. My question was if there is any 10Gig Copper SFP supported on F Series Fiber Module (Part# N7K-F248XP-25E), (not a twinax/DAC cable since my distance is longer and Twinax wont work) -
I am looking to connect a SGE2000P switch to an existing infrastructure. I am unable to locate any information in the literature specifying compatible SFP adaptors. I require to connect to MMF 1350nm 100BASE-FX?
Hi David;
Here is a link to the small business SFP, but note the frequency.
Bad news is that the SGE2010 and not the SGE2000 supports the 100FX SFP (MFEFX1), check the quick start guide URL at the bottom of this post.

SFP For ASR1006 -- Will GLC-LH-SM Work????
I have an ASR1006 running IOS-XE 15.0 ADVENTERPRISE, so I would like to know if the SFP (which I got from another router) with part number GLC-LH-SM would work in it -- it's for a Single Mode connection. I ordered part number SFP-GE-L= already, but it has not arrived yet so I just want to know if GLC-LH-SM will work in the interim.
Hi
I have an issue in my data center, could you please me help out.
I have Cisco ASR1006 router in my data center and a 100Mpbs WAN link (over OFC) is coming from my ISP to my premises. The issue is my ISP is having 100BaseFx module at its end and I am having 1000BaseFx modules in my router. How should I terminate the OFC on my router as 100BaseFx are 1000BaseFx are incompatible ? Please recommend any SFP which I could use at my end in order to terminate the OFC directly on my router. I have an 8 port SPA on my ASR. -
Hi,
Sorry i dont speak english, so i tried to explain my problem
ONLY FOR LAN TO LAN L2 with vlan ...
I want to interconnect my office with a datacenter (2400 meters). One black fiber exist (i dont know if it s a multimod or monomod now)
In first i think to use 2 switchs 3750X with a sfp modul. With one fiber, i m compulsory to use BIDIRECTIONNAL SFP.
A Gibabit is sufficient for me.
Question 1 Is it a good solution and does SFT Exist for that on 3750X , if no other switch for that ?
Question 2 what else solution exist for metroplitain network (adaptateur Fiber-Cover before ??
Thanks you for help
Bests regards
ChristopheQ1. Bidirectional SFP (1000BASE-BX10-D and 1000BASE-BX10-U) is an acceptable solution for 1Gbps links with only one Singlemode (mono-mode) fiber available. Supports 10,000 meters over SMF.
Gigabit Ethernet SFP compatibility with 3750X can be found on website.
Q2. I do not understand what other information you are looking for. -
Not sure if you take other vendors and then “ciscolize” it (ie HP or IBM to MCS Callmanager) but do anyone know if Cisco also ciscolize the SFP cables?
I see 7meter cables available below via other vendors. All the vendors (including Cisco) uses the same Madison 24AWG cable. However, with the transceivers themselves, I couldn’t tell if they all come same vendor or not.
http://www.tmcscsi.com/SFP+_cables.shtml
Anyways, does anyone know why is the 7M available in other vendors but not via Cisco?
Also, is the transceiver really Cisco or some other vendorTo answer this question:
"... does anyone know why is the 7M available in other vendors but not via Cisco?"
As of right now Cisco is the only vendor supporting FCoE on SFP+ copper cables, and Cisco will not certify the 7m passive copper cable for FCoE. With FCoE, there are bit error rate tolerances that the vendor must be mindful of, and the bit error rate on the 7m cable is not meeting Cisco's strict quality tolerances.
Other vendors that are not currently supporting FCoE, such as HP, do not need to worry about this (yet).
So, if you plan to run FCoE traffic on these cables anytime now or in the future, you might want to stick to 5m or less cables regardless of which vendor you choose, because any other vendor will likely come to the same conclusion as Cisco has already done with support for FCoE on 7m passive SFP copper cables.
Cheers,

HT4759 Why is the additional ICloud 10GB storage for my Ipad I purchased not working?
Why is the additional ICloud 10GB storage I purchased not downloading on my IPAD?
What do you mean by 'downloading'? - does it show in Settings>iCloud? It's additional space on the iCloud server, not additional memory on your iPad.
