I am having an error occur during the install the 64-bit install on Redhat 5 "error in invoking target 'proxy_install runm_install server_install cgi_instll cli_install conv_install qv_install' of makefile'. I think this is causing me issues when I try to by pass and upgrade to 10.1.2.3.0, getting a "Error in invoking target 'frmweb_install frmcmp_install frmcmpb_install of makefile ORACLE_HOME/forms/lib/ins_forms.mk.
Anybody got any ideas how to resolve this? Obviously I want to take care of the 10.1.2.0.2 first. All relevant packages were loaded and at least meet the minimum requirements from RedHat.
ChrisThis is related to the Red Hat library issue:

In order to prevent this, download and apply the required RPM listed below:
As root, you can install this RPM package by issuing the following command
# rpm -i xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386.rpm
After the RPM, is installed, you will also need to override the /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 with the one from /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6. As root, issue the commands:
# mv /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6.ORG
# ln -s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

Oracleasm update-driver failed in OEL 6
Hi ,
I have a problem with oracleasm update-driver command.
I have OEL 6 installed in my machine.
When I entered command : rpm -qa| grep oracleasm it is showing me the below output :
oracleasm-support-2.1.5-1.el6.i686
But after that, when I issued command oracleasm update-driver , it shows me below error :
Kernel: 2.6.32-71.el6.i686 i686
Driver name: oracleasm-2.6.32-71.el6.i686
Driver for kernel 2.6.32-71.el6.i686 does not exist
As a result of this my ASMLib driver is not Initializing properly. Below is the details of that :
[root@abhishek]# /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure

This will configure the on-boot properties of the Oracle ASM library

Can anyone please help me to resolve this ?
Thanks
AbhishekHi Dude,
Thanks very much for your detailed explanation.
I have successfully updated UEK kernel by following your mentioned steps.
But now I am facing another problem.
I have done upto steps below :
yum install kernel-uek kernel-uek-devel kernel-uek-headers kernel-uek-firmware+
*# reboot*
But when I am trying to enter into that kernel , it is showing dark screen with a arrow pointer .. I think the video driver is not updated for that kernel.
Let me elaborate the scenario :
When I boot my machine , it shows 2 options during boot :
*1. Windows XP*
*2. Other*
When I pressed enter into the Other it is showing 3 more options :
*1. Oracle Linux Kernel - 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.i686*
*2. Oracle Linux Kernel - 2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.i686*
*3. Oracle Linux Kernel - 2.6.32-71.el6.i686*
When I choose 2nd and 3rd option it is showing Gnome GUI properly , but when choosing 1st option it is not showing any Gnome GUI , Just a dark screen and an arrow pointer on that. I can move that pointer here and there over the blank screen. So it is understood that machine is not getting hanged , only display is not coming ( please verify whether my understanding is correct or not ).
Untill the GUI comes, I am not able to test the rest of the commands you gave. So will you please update the solution with detailed steps.
One more information i am pasting here. The output of lsmod command ( running from the kernel : 2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.i686 )

Hello,
I have a virtual machine set up with OEL4 and Oracle Database 9iR2 installed on it quite a while back. All had worked well at the time of setup.
Couple of days back, I decided to update the OS and ran "yum update" with yum pointing to "el4_latest" repository on oracle public yum server.
However, the "yum update" fails with a transaction error.
I am a newbie with Linux and so am looking for help to figure out what is causing this error and how to resolve it.
Following are the details, I feel are relevant to my problem but let me know if you need any more details.
The error message:

Dude,
Thanks for the response and the link above. But it gives a "404 Not found".
What happens if you try "yum install compat-dapl" prior to using yum update? Now, why did not I think of that clever idea? You were spot on!!!
When I installed compat-dapl separately and subsequently ran yum update, everything worked well.
In the process, I also managed to resolve my original issue (not mentioned here) but yum update looks like a sledgehammer approach to crack the nut.
I have a feeling just updating/adding few packages may have resolved the issue (without having to update the kernel itself, caused by yum update) and discussing it with experts like yourself would have added to my knowledge about linux.
But that issue had virtualbox in the picture and so I was worried some over-active moderator would have blocked my thread and redirected me to virtualbox forum.
Anyway, Thanks once again for your help with this. -
Oracle 10gR2 installation on Redhat 5 hangs on 12%
Dear experts
I'm installing a 2 node Oracle 10gR2 on Redhat 5. Everything is ok when installing Oracle Clusterware and it works fine with all the services up and running. But when I start installing the Oracle Database, OUI hangs on 12%. I found couple of articles recommending to use another JRE so I tried SUN JRE 1.4.2 and point Oracle to it but still no luck. I also found something saying about '' optimized glibc package" for Oracle 9i which looks very familiar with my problem ( http://osdir.com/ml/linux.ubuntu.server/2006-12/msg00019.html )
I appreciate any help.
Thank you in advance.

Lotus notes (ibm) to migrate all the data to Oracle DB Database 10g R2(10.2
Hi Experts,
we have legacy application which is running independently with back end as Lotus Notes(IBM).Now we wanted to migrate the application to our application with data . our application is running with oracle Database 10g R2(10.2.0.2.0).
Now I wanted to migrate all the data to Oracle DB.
Can you suggest me the best ways to do handle the above migrations .
thanks in advanceHi,
Install all the required packages.
You are hitting a bug. Bug 7680459: LIBXP PACKAGE IS MISSING FROM LIST OF PACKAGES REQUIRED.
As per documentation Bug 7680459, the package libXp-1.0.0-8 is also required to invoke OUI successfully.
So, make sure that you have installed these packages including the dependency packages required.

Linux Migration 11.5.10.2
We are planing moving our 11.5.10 with 10g RAC from Solaris to Linux, and I would like to hear from anyone who's done it already this kind of OS-OS migration, or knows of any good white papers which discuss it.
I have gone through my Threads in this forums but i did not see anyone discussed on RAC Migration.Hi Chrle,
Could you please refer me any metalink documents to check pre_req's in new servers for RAC installation. This is covered in the installation document (which can be found in the link referenced above).
Not sure what Linux version you are planning to use, but if it is OEL/RHEL 5 then you could also refer to:
Requirements For Installing Oracle 10gR2 On RHEL/OEL 5 (x86) [ID 419646.1]
10gR2 RAC Install issues on Oracle EL5 or RHEL5 or SLES10 (VIPCA / SRVCTL / OUI Failures) [ID 414163.1]

Remove / Reuse Oracle Home
An installation of Oracle 10gR2 failed in silent mode. So, I ran the deinstallation script and now want to rerun the installation but I'm getting the error: "Oracle Home with name already exists at location...Please specify another location for Oracle Home." The directory where we want to install the software is empty. What is it that we are missing in order to install the software in the directory? How do we remove the Oracle_home that was not successfully used in the failed installation?
The server is a solaris server. I know how to accomplish this on a Windows platform server.
Thanks.

klichtenThere are no eroneous entries in the oratab file. At this point we are just looking to install the 10gr2 software. Here is the error that we are receiving:
SEVERE:OUI-10136:An Oracle Home with name OraDbHome2 already exists at location /u01/oracle/product/10.2.0. Please specify another location for Oracle Home.
All we are looking to do is remove any references to the directory where we want to install the software and re-run the installation. -
Can i install developer 10g on redhat 5.3
Dear Viewers,
i find some doccumentation to install developer 10g on red hat AS 4.
but i want to install 10g on 5.3. If somebody has some link or some idea plz share.
regardsWell I think you wont find any doc about this.
But I know database server 10g R2 is supported on RHES 5
eg if you have account to my oracle support look for\
Requirements For Installing Oracle 10gR2 On RHEL/OEL 5 (x86) [ID 419646.1]
or
How To : Requirements For Installing Oracle10gR2 On RHEL 5/OEL 5 (x86_64) [ID 421308.1]
so if you check 10g Dev suite RHES 4 documentation try to find similar packages for RHES 5 and it may work...
That is all I can add.

Where to mapp a Virtual path ?
Hello
I want to deploye an oracle forms Application (Forms 10gR2) on linux OEL 5.5
My question is where to mapp the Virtual Path, in forms.conf or in orion-web.xml or in both ?
thanks.Hello,
I think that forms.conf is used by the Forms Runtime (so the A.S.) while orion-web.xml is used by the runtime of Forms Builder.
