10gr2 grid control not sending mail alerts

I am getting email alerts when the Agent is down, i.e. agent unreachable. When agent starts, get another email alert that alert is cleared. However, I do not receive any other email alerts, i.e. blocking session. The OMS Console shows the alert but no email. Already tried subscribing to rules. Support is still looking into it. Any suggestions. P.S. email test does work.

I had this same issue, but after running the latest patch, rebooting and restarting the database, it went away. Not much help, I know, but one of those cleared it up.

  • Alert not sending mail even if executed successfully.

    hi all,
    I have created alert in R12 environment. it is periodic alert which will fire everyday.
    There are 2 actions
    1. Run the Concurrent program and insert values emp_no,emp_name,manager_name,manager_mail into custom table.
    2. Send mail to manager_mail containing data like emp_no and emp_name.
    I encapsulated both the action in one action set. Sequencing 1. Concurrent Program ( Detail Level) 2. Send mail (detail level)
    When i am executing alert, it is ending with completed successfully. It is inserting data into custom table but it is not sending mail to manager mail id.
    When i tried to check history, it is showing 'n' number of exceptions, but all those exception are not available in FIND EXCEPTION tab.
    I m not able to find out, what exactly wrong i have done.
    Query is:
    Select emp_no,emp_name,manager_name,manager_mail into
    &l_emp_no,&emp_name,l_manager_name,l_manager_mail from xx_alert_table_data;
    and I am passing &l_manager_mail into 'To' section of send_mail action. it is not containing any null data. all the email address are present in that field.
    please suggest if i m doing anything wrong.

    Just putting the data into tables is not the actual process, performing the connection to the email server and sending email.
    Underneath it's a multilayered process .
    Oracle Alert uses Oracle Workflow Notification mailer for sending requests, which in turn uses mailer program to send mails.
    So, you need first to check the state of Notification mailer then locate logs of the mailer utulity used by these and see whether there were any connection/negotiation errors and what information in header fields has been actually sent.
    To see notification mailer program status change responsibility to Workflow Manager, then go to "Service Components" section and find there Workflow Notification process.
    To find the mailer type, change responsibility to Alert Manager, then go to System->Options and see which mailer is in use.
    Usually on Unix, sendmail is used, so you may easily turn on debug logging and see the mail headers and complete negitiation logs, if you need them.

  • Grid Control stops sending emails?

    Hello everyone. Interesting thing happened today. For whatever reasons, Grid Control stopping sending out email alerts that we have configured. Let me give some details.
    We have customized some rules so we can receive email alerts if something goes wrong with our production databases. It has worked great until today.
    We have setup an alert to let us know the 'state' of the database. This worked extremely well on our dataguard box, which would change status to 'MOUNT" twice a day as we applied redo logs from the primary database. Each time this happened, Grid Control would fire off an email alert stating the database was in the 'MOUNT' stage.
    Once all the logs were applied and the database would return to 'OPEN', we could get a email saying the database was 'CLEAR' and now 'OPEN'.
    This worked great, until our 17:00 log applies happened.
    We did not receive anything at all and now I am trying to figure out why.
    To my knowledge, nothing has changed on the Grid Control server.
    I logged in and checked everything out, and it seemed ok.
    I did restart some of the services and restarted the DB instance.
    Doing some testing, I stopped a database to check the rule. It took a while for Grid Control to recognize that the database was down and it eventually fired off a email alert stating the database was unreachable. But this was after at least 3-5 minutes, where as before, it was almost instant.
    My guess is that for whatever reasons, is that when the database status changes, Grid Control is not finding out right away. Due to the latency of the issue, by the time all the logs have applied (no more than 5 minutes), the database is back 'OPEN' and the database looks good to grid control.
    I'm a little baffled by this because Grid Control has worked great for months.
    Does anyone have any idea on what could be wrong?
    Any ideas on where to start looking?
    Any additional information I can post to help troubleshoot? Logs?

    Has a schedule been set-up for the user. This normally happens when a user is created.
    Does the user have access to the rule set that has been created.
    For example, in my system SYSMAN creates all the rules and then makes them public. Individual users then subscribe to the public rules to get the alerts.

Try compressing the filebefore sending it, or send your message without the attachment to verify that there are no issues with sending.

    I have 10gR2 Grid Control installed on a Linux Server. I want to use it to create a DataGuard standby database. The issue is that the primary database is 10gR2 on a HP-UX server using ASM and the standby database will also be 10gR2 on a HP-UX server using ASM. Will the 10gR2 Linux Grid Control be able to handle this since the agent on the primary will be 10.1.0.4? Note: 10gR2 is available for HP-UX but 10gR2 Grid Control is not yet available so that is why I have 10.1.0.4 agent.

And as you've noticed, for some hardware attributes there are no "Actions" tabs the allow you to configure email.     I was troubleshooting my own issue noted above and tried to send the attachments via gmail's web interface (bypassing Apple Mail). This time, gmail provided an error message stating that the file contained a virus.
    Since it was a zip of several Word docs, I saved them as PDFs and then rezipped, and Apple Mail sent them off like a champ.
    Evidently, Mail does not have a method for relaying the precise nature of the error message that gmail sends (in this case that the attachment had what gmail thought was a virus). This would be a prime area for some software developers to tackle on a future version of Mail.
    By the way, the files almost certainly do not contain viruses; they are extremely old Word Docs that have been on my successive Mac hard drives for at least 9 years. Too old a format for gmail to recognize?
    Hope this helps someone who may be having the same trouble.

    Mail used to send messages, but stopped suddenly in 2004 and has yet to start again. Any idea guys?! I can't figure it out, under Account settings I have necessary fields filled in: Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is set to "mail.earthlink.net", Server Port is set to 25, and Authentication drop menu is set to None.

    This is NOT a problem with Mail or OS X. This is an incorrect settings problem - garbage in = garbage out and this information is certainly available at Earthlink's website and Earthlink also provides technical support.
    Earthlink has an authenticated SMTP server they changed to long ago.
    SMTP Server: smtpauth.earthlink.net
    Server Port: 587 but 25 should work if you are using Earthlink as your internet service provider for connecting to the internet.
    Use SSL: Off or not selected.
    Authentication: MD5 Challenge-Response
    User Name: Your ENTIRE Earthlink email address.
    Password: The account's password - the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages.

    What is the email provider? If it is from your home Internet service provider, they usually block sending when not on their network. If this is the case, see if you can log into the smtp server with username and password. If they allow that, you can enter that in the email account settings.
