10gr2 rac installation

Hi, this is the first time i use different ip on both rac nodes. Will this post a problem?
for example public ip:
node 1 192.168.0.100
node 2 192.168.0.101
I am not sure the following errors related to the public IPs above, but I am seeing.

10gR2 RAC installation: OUI forgets to create directory 'crs/auth' (BUG)

Hi,
We've got a new installed 10gR2 RAC cluster (2 nodes) on AIX. But there were several errors during startup of CRS (Cluster Ready Services).
The error log shows, that it couldn't write a special file (I guess a lock file).
So I just created the missing directory 'crs/auth' and anything works fine now.
This post is just for those who are looking for a solution for their non-working crs daemon. No need to answer.
But I suppose Oracle should log it as an installation bug, because the Universal Installer does not create this directory and so the CRS can not work.

More than 1 Priv IPs and 1 VIP in 10gr2 RAC installations

With 10gr2 clusterware, is it possible to add more than 1 Prv IP and VIP ?
If possible, what is the procedure to add?

Is it possible what you really want to be looking for is NIC bonding / teamed NICs (or MPIP solaris).
This is where two ethernet adapters share an ip address
Take a look at the following post Re: teamed NICs for RAC interconnect for instance. (which refers to metalink Metalink note 298891.1 ).
Having said that I cant see a need for more than one priv IP, but multpile VIP's might jsut be wanted for eg DMZ. (I dont know the answer to that offahnd though).

Management Agent service not created with 10gR2 RAC DB install on Win2003?

Our 10gR2 RAC installation on Win2003 platform didn't create management agent service. After installing and setting up current release of OEM with Grid Control (10.1) and installing Management Agent from 10.1 OEM distribution (install additional management agents option), agent service is up and running. However, there is one small problem:
All target configuration xml files are created under 10.2 Oracle home, and agent running from 10.1 home does not see them - which means database, listener, etc are not registered in OEM.
Is this a known problem, and is there solution for it?

Hello,
I want to install RAC on two nodes with Windows 2003 operating system.
I have the following questions:
Do I need Windows Clustering Software installed before I go for RAC clusterware installation?
If not, how do I setup shared drive so that both systems can see and access OCR and voting disks?
Is there any good documentation for RAC installation on Windows platform?

If not, how do I setup shared drive so that both systems can see and access OCR and voting disks?You need install the clusterware pre-requisites before install the Oracle Clusterware, you must see the next documentation. There explain how configure the shared disk and other pre-requisites for Clusterware, for example raw devices and other settings.

10gR2 RAC on Solaris 10

Hi,
I am looking for "step by step install & configure" guide to setup 10gr2 RAC on Solaris 10.
I got the following Doc "ID: Note:317257.1" from metalink. Looks like I need to configure Solaris 10 containers and Solaris Zones for 10g RAC.
Is there another way to setup 10gr2 RAC on Solaris 10 without using the Solaris 10 containers just like (Solaris 9 or plain OS)?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your inputs. I finally got 10g RAC installed and running.
I learned that there is no way to install Oracle software and configure ASM during installation. I had to install “Software Only” then configure ASM at the later time, then that will work.

Solaris 10 + Oracle 10gR2 RAC question

Hello everyone
Has anyone come across the case where the CRS services of Oracle cause
the public interface to get turned off and then restored at random
time intervals? To elaborate, we have a 2 node cluster database.
Solaris 10, Oracle 10gR2 RAC with patch 10.2.0.3 applied. No SUN
clustering is involved. When the cluster software is down (nodeapps,
asm, database instances all down) /var/adm/messages show nothing. When
we start nodeapps on the 2 nodes(thus initiating some form of
communication between the nodes), at random time intervals we get
"interface ce0 turned off and interface ce0 restored" in /var/adm/
messages. When we check the status of the RAC, we see that one node's
vip has been assigned to the other. This on/off behaviour of the NIC
can be eliminated only if we continuously PING it from a another
client in the network.
As a matter of fact, the RAC and the RDBMS work perfectly when we keep
pinging the 2 nodes from an other client on the network. We even
managed to run a long batch job, distributed on cluster managed
services on the 2 instances, and it completed after 9 hours without
any problems.
Does anyone have a hint on this behaviour? Is there some sort of
timeout for the network cards? Some power saving features? Googling
around I came across the new Containers feature available on Solaris
10. Is there a way that I can verify that either RAC or the RDBMS is
running in "container" mode ( since the solaris and Oracle
installation was not performed by me)? Any other ideas?

Im an Oracle guy - not the SA type -
But on ours - the SA configured this cluster incorrectly. We use veritas. instead of making ipmp groups for the interfaces - he built the cluster according to veritas docs. That is - he has two publics - on difference interfaces and different privates on different interfaces. oracle can only two interfaces - no matter if its a ipmp group or a device name. one is used for private- the other is used for public - So sure the veritas cluster filesystems will survive - but the Oracle Cluster will not - nodes will reboot -
Is your system set up incorrectly as i described above? if it is - a quick test would be - turn down the other interfaces - and only leave the two interfaces you mention above up that you configured for Oracle CRS
This other sharp sa was able to go through the arp table and see duplicate IPs - and the routing was attempted via an interface that oracle doesnt see. You can not define two different interfaces public - and two different interfaces for private -

Were you able you do the 11gr1 RAC installation on Windows 2008? I am struck with configuring Storage as onfigure Shared Storage windows does not show any disks. Also runcluvfy fails with below error.

Topic 2 can be achieved through the SERVICES concept, that's also covered in the document above.
Difficult is the question, what's the BEST storage filesystem. You will get different answers from different vendors, but you should go on the Oracle side for ASM.

I am able tp ping all my IP's from both the nodes,with host name &alias specified in the host file.

Root.sh failing at node2 during 10g rac installation on vmware

Hi All,
I'm very new to Oracle RAC. I was trying to install 10gr2 rac on vmware. But while running root.sh script at node 2 I'm getting error like "Failure at check of Final Oracle Stack" . For the same I tried a lot to find the solution from this forum and also from other sources but did not get any proper solution. So any help from you experts is highly appreciable. Let me tell you how I'm getting this error.
1.Install vmware and RHEL 4 as guest OS.
2.Create a virtual machine as RAC1 and configured shared storage by adding 5 virtual disks(1-ocr,1-voting,3-asm)
3.Then clone RAC1 to a new virtual machine RAC2.
4.After binding and assigning permissions all raw devices(raw1,raw2,raw3,raw4,raw5) are available in both the virtual machines.
5. Then create user equivalence for both the system and each node is reach from other node also.
6. Now when I tried to install Oracle 10gr2 clusterware it got completed at RAC1 and I ran the required scripts but while running root.sh on RAC2 I got the above mentioned error.
I did OCR check at both the nodes and found both are different. Also the cssd.log gives error message like OCR mismatch.
Now here my question is as Firewal is disabled and all the configurations are proper though I'm getting the same error.
Can anyboy provide some suggestion on resolving this issue.

The 1st one is for OCR and the next one is for Voting Disk and the rest are for asm. Also the permission are same across the two virtual machines.

Oracle 11gR2 RAC installation with DNS

Dear Guru's,
I want to configure RAC on two node cluster with DNS(For SCAN) in my testing server.
O.S: RHEL5.4(64 bit)
Oracle Version: 11gR2(11.2.0.2)
Note: Am creating nodes in VMware ESXi server.
Just I want to know whether DNS should be configure in any one of those NODES or in separate machine.

In new project we have proposed to have 2 nodes single site RAC database Oracle 11gR2 64 Bit . We are going to have OEL 5.4 64 Bit Linux as OS and IBM as machine .
We are migrating standalone 10g R2 database to 11r2 Rac and from HP-UX to OEL Linux . We are migrating from different datacenter .
What would be the pfile configuration (i mean memory size doubles ) in RAC ?
We are going to use IBM storage . Need light on followings . Pls help me out
1>Requirements for installation
2>Grid installation requirements
3>ASM instance is physical database instance or just service ?
4>Any oracle document for installation of 11gR2 Grid and RAC?
If you provide me authorized links of RAC installation that would be better .
