10MB Limit?

I'm trying to send a friend an email with an attatchment. In all, the email is about 15MB, but Mail won't let me send the file because it says "Your message has size 15.4 MB, which exceeds 10.0 MB, the maximum allowed by the server."
What does this mean? Can I fix this? I've sent emails before that were bigger then 10MB, so what's the deal now? Is this a problem on my end or Apple's?
Someone please help.
iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If you are sending this message with large attachment with a .Mac account, .Mac has a 10MB overall message size limit for received and sent messages and most ISPs and email account providers have similar or some limit on the size of received and sent messages.
Even if you can send a message that is about 15MB in size with your email account, the recipient's incoming mail server may have a smaller message size limit for received messages and the message will be rejected.
The email account provided by my ISP has a 10MB incoming mail server storage limit total for all received messages so even if my incoming mail server storage is completely empty and someone can send a message with attachment that totals 15MB in size, the message would be rejected by the incoming mail server for my ISP's email account since the size of the message is over my incoming mail server storage limit.
In addition in case you are not aware, all attachments must be encoded before being sent. The Mail.app uses MIME 1.0 for attachment encoding which is the internet standard. The encoding process increases the size of the pre-encoded file by 50% of so. A pre-encoded file that is 5MB in size will be roughly 7.5MB in size after the encoding process.

  • Tethering and 10MB limit

Sooo.. I had heard that iPhone 3.0 had removed the 10 MB limit. Is this this case? I tried it out but the limit still seems to be there.
I find this a bit amusing because I can now tether my iPhone and download an app or a podcast with my computer using the iPhone as a data service provider but I cannot download it directly.
It seems the need for the limit is a bit moot.
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Yes, the limit is from Apple. No, Apple will not clarify anything on these user-to-user forums.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Going over 10MB limit

I have been with BT broadband Option 1 (10 MB) since June 2009 and have just received my first notice telling me that my use was over 10 MB in February and that I willl now be charged extra for this.  My usage has been no more than usual. I rarely upload music or download films to watch and don't use I-player or YouTube. After receiving a warning on 16th February (I think it was) that I had already used up 7MB, I was even more careful with my usage and reduced the amount of time I was online and kept a daily check. However, at the end of last month, I was 1MB over. I'm not sure how this is worked out by BT or how I can check this myself but I consider myself to be a low user and am unable to understand how I could have gone over 10MB.
Seeing the other comments on here, I am beginning to wonder whether this is a ruse by BT to get people to move to their more expensive options or whether they are linking someone else's usage to my account.  Maybe this is a case for Watchdog?
Any advice on how I can verify this or prove my usage to BT would be really helpful please.
    Thanks,
    Jane

One way of checking your usage is by getting the upload/download information from your HomeHub and monitoring it on at least a daily basis. The following is an extract from another thread that you can read for further information.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Broadband-usage-OMG/m-p/434143#M16468
The process is not as difficult as it looks:
To monitor your usage with your HomeHub you first have to Login to your HomeHub.
There are various ways to get to your HomeHub but the simplest to describe is
    1. Start your Internet Browser (say Internet Explorer)
2Type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar and hit enter.
    3. If this is the first time you have done this you will be asked to change the default Admin password of the Hub.
       (Otherwise goto step 5)
The default Admin password is usually written on the Hub or supplied on a card or sticker supplied by BT.
NOTE this is Not the the wireless pin , or key, or password.
    4. Make sure you record the new password.
    5.  Now click on Settings
    6. You may be asked to type in your Admin Password.
    7. When logged in successfuly click Advanced Settings   (Top Right end of second row)
    8.  Click "Coninue to advanced settings"
9  Click Broadband  (Top left 2nd entry in second row)
    10.  The Internet  entry on the third row should already be selected but if not click it.
    11.   Under connection information  you should see someting like this
NOTE here that the data is recorded in GB (Gigabytes) not MB (Megabytes)
    12.   IF you want to monitor your usage in detail I suggest you record the following information
date and time of reading, connection time, data transmitted, data received
For convenience I copy parts of my previous post.
There are several things you need to bear in mind.
    1. BT usage is measured at midnight only and occasionally skips a night  so check the date also.
    2. The Home Hub measures usage seperately as up and down so you need to add the figures.
    3. The Home Hub reading is accurate at the time of accessing it but will not update unless you refresh the screen.
    4. The Home Hub reading measures from the last reconnection time so you need to check what the uptime of the connection is to ensure that a reconnection has not screwed up your reading.
    5. The result of all this is that you need to record the readings on at least a daily basis and compare the difference between the two corresponding readings.
    6. If you are experiencing unusual readings from the HomeHub you can monitor it on short periods of time (say hourly or less) and correlate with what is going on on connected devices.
    7. A list of connected devices can also be got from the HomeHUb.
    8. There are other ways of measuring usage per device but your case for proving to BT that their usage meter has got it wrong will be better served by using the advice above.
    9. In my experience I have found that the Home Hub and BT usage meter agree and to my knowledge there has been no posts in this community that have posted convincing evidence otherwise in the form of Home Hub readings and BT Usage monitor readings (or any other readings). There has been posts of new account problems that may have been valid but none for existing accounts.

  • HT1694 How can I send videos via email (hotmail) that are 55 seconds or more?

Hotmail is supposed to have a 10MB limit and my videos are only coming to 5MB. But I can send a video that is 54 seconds long, but 55 seconds won't send. I also tried sending it through a gmail account and it wouldn't work either. Any advice? I'm using a iphone4. Thank you!

When sending an email the largest size of any file or collection of files is 20MB. A 720p HD video recording from your iPhone 4 for 55 seconds probably hits about 20MB (or just under). There isn't a way to increase the email sizing limit, however there are other alternatives such as Microsoft SkyDrive (Free), DropBox (free) and Google Drive (free) which will let you upload and share your files (like you would with email, only slightly different).
If you have a Hotmail/MSN account, you already have SkyDrive and it's easy to setup and use. Just visit: https://skydrive.live.com and sign in using your Hotmail/MSN account.
If you have Gmail (or blogger, or other Google service including YouTube) you can enable and start using Google Drive easily also, just visit: https://drive.google.com/start
If have neither a Google or Microsoft acount, and have no interest in creating an account with either of them, try DropBox. Found here: https://www.dropbox.com

We got a new Apple TV for Christmas and it works wonderful. However, my question is this. We are on a satelitte internet system and our bandwidth is limited. Can anyone tell me what effect it will have on using up my 10 megs of bandwidth? If I run over the 10 mgs, the service either slows way down until it is reset on the first of the next month or I have to purchase additional bandwidth and it can get expensive.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you only have a 10MB limit on the Internet connection you might as well not have Internet access and certainly should not attempt to stream anything.
If the limit is 10GB, then you will need to be careful with streaming as most video is 1-3GB for a one hour show.

  • Can hackers use my BB account?

Having been a BT customer for over 30 years and a BB user since inception, my BB usage is fairly low, just for occasional internet and emails. On renewal of BB contract, a BT sales person advised me to downgrade to Option 1 due to low use.  Over the last 12 months my use averages 2MB per month.  This month for the first time ever, I had an email alert to let me know I was almost at the 10MB limit.  I looked at the usage monitor which is not very helpful - does not break down into days of the month - just total monthly usage.  I have been working away for parts of April and am certain this is not my use.  I live alone and no one else has access to my WPA key.
I called BT billing who told me what my average use was over the last 12 months (as above) but they do not have info (to give me) of what the use is for and on what days.  The usage monitor is geared to letting you know when you have reached the limit so that you can upgrade, it would be easy to show more than one day at a time - giving a true monthly picture.  In early April, I had several emails from Yahoo asking me to verify my email address by clicking on a link, which I did. I did not suspect spam as I was not asked for any passwords. BT tech help told me it was spam and I could have been infected by a virus without giving a p/word.  So - sorry to take so long but is is possible this is who is using my BB?  BT are not helping - just want to charge me for extra use. How do I prove this is not my use when BT will not give me any more info? Hope someone can help, spent 2 hours being passed around BT yesterday, no further forward, no answers or help - just extra charges!

    Hi. Welcome to the forums.
Does the alert email say your usage was for May ?, and does the online meter show pretty much the same figure ?
Those verification emails, were they entitled Yahoo! Email Address confirmation ? If so then they were almost certainly genuine, and probably one of two reasons. Either someone has entered your email address by mistake when setting up address verification to use a different (non btinternet) address, or it was a scammer doing the same.
By clicking the link, this may allow someone to send emails using your email address (but not get into your account) - however they will need to know the password as well.
Go to http://mail.yahoo.com - login with your full email address. The click on Options/More (or mail) options, and then Accounts on the left. If there are any email addresses listed (click on any of the list, it will show the email address) that you don't know, you can delete them.
However any of this won't actually mean that your usage will be used up, it's a separate issue. The usage meter can be checked every day and the usage recorded on a spreadsheet or even paper - hence build up a daily usage.
Have you used anything like iPlayer, catch up tv or football online ? Do you use facebook etc ? Many of these applications can use 500-1000MB per hour, with some facebook applications many 100s of MB per day. So it's not too hard to rack up usage.

  • Attachment Size Inaccurate in Mail

    Hi,
I have a 7.6MB .sit file I'm trying to send via the mail app. But as soon as I attach it to the email, it says the size of the total email is 10.2MB, and won't let me send it due to the 10MB limit on file size. Even if the text of the email is empty. Any idea why the mail app adds nearly 3MB in size to a file attachment??
    Thanks!
    Jim

All attachments must be encoded into ASCII characters so that the information can be transported safely across the internet.
The encoding process can greatly increase the size of the message. Sometimes it can be double the size of the message or more.

  • Increasing Email Size Limits for some users

    Hi All,
For some users (management) i needed to arrange that they are able to send bigger files then the default 10MB limit to each other.
I used this procedure to do so,
    https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/increasing-email-size-limits-for-your-high-profile-users-in-exchange-2010/
    In a nutshell:
Set Global Transport Org. Config to 200MB
Set Transport Send and Receive connector to 200MB
Created a Distribution group adding the MT members and me (for testing)
Created a transport Rule for the 10MB limit for all users and exception for the distribution group
(Believe me, i am not happy with the 200MB size limit)
All seems to work but i have one issue that i cannot tackel or maybe it is by design.
-Managemant can also send big files to all
users who do not have this privelige, this is not someting i want, sending 100MB+ attachments to over 150 users.
Is this by design or do i mis something?
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Hi RonGielgens,
Attachment size in exchange has to be set on
    Global settings
    Connectors (send and receive connectors)
    Mailbox
The global settings will affect all the others. of course connectors will affect specific servers and mailbox one user. You have to set the global to the absolute max size you want to allow in your organization.
after you do this you will need either to set the 10MB on each mailbox
    Get-Mailbox | Set-Mailbox -MaxSendSize 10MB -MaxReceiveSize 10MB
Then change the limit on specific mailbox
or another way is to create a transport rule that will reject the email if the attachment size it > 10MB unless the sender/recipient is the required user or group.
so basically create 2 transport rules
    1. reject messages sent to anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the recipient is userX
    2. reject messages sent from anyone with attachment > 10mb unless the sender is userX
Normal case it should not allow.
    Thanks, MAS

  • Unable to open InfoPath forms with large attachments in browser

We have been running a infopath solution on SharePoint 2010 for a couple of years now. The form is rendered in the browser, but when the attachments are large in size (seems like a ~10MB limit for the form), the system would not allow the user to edit the
form in the browser. Instead the browser pops up with a dialog say: "What to you want to do with [FILENAME].xml? Open | Save | Save as.
Forms less than 10MB renders perfectly in the browser
Are anyone able to clarify what is going on and how we can fix it?

    Hi Allen,
According to your description, my understanding is that you could not edit the form when the attachment was more than 10MB in SharePoint 2010.
Please go to Central Administration > General Application Settings > Configure InfoPath Forms Services ,  in the user session section, increase the "Maximum size of user session data" to the size that you want, compare the result.
    I hope this helps.

  • Setting MAX message size

    Hello-
I am using Sun ONE MQ 3.5. I have a need to send large messages in some rare instances. One such message is about 20MB. Potentially, these messages could be of any size however.
I have set the following properties in my config.properties and restarted the imq broker
    imq.system.max_count=-1
    imq.system.max_size=-1
    imq.log.level=DEBUG
    imq.message.max_size=-1
However, when I attempt to send a message of this size, I get the following error in my imqbroker logs:
[08/Jul/2004:09:23:12 CDT] WARNING [B2011]: Storing of JMS message from IMQConn[AUTHENTICATED,[email protected]:1216,jms:1193] failed:
com.sun.messaging.jmq.jmsserver.util.BrokerException: [B4122]: Can not store message 10-10.1.1.65(de:a1:a5:c4:67:27)-1216-1089296592204 on destination directDestination35 [Queue] because the packet size of 19475250 bytes is larger than the message limit of 10485760 bytes.
The size, according to this, is most definitely not unlimited. I can compress these files before adding them to the message body, but there is still the potentially that even a compressed file can exceed this 10MB limit. Also, I can devise an alternate route over sockets or something, but that complicates the solution quite a bit and I'd rather not.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    troy

    Troy,
Try using 0 as the imq.system.max_size property.
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-5922-10/imq_sys.html#37368
I know that this used to be the "no limit" value and I think you are correct that it changed to -1. However I just checked the maual for 3.5 and on page 134 it still seems to say that 0 means "no limit".
    Hope this helps!

  • Itunes mix down file too big?

    Greetings from the bayou,
I am trying to e-mail a band mate a mix of a song from GB in itunes. I didn't notice this before, but the file is 24.3 MB. Is there a way/program or a setting in itunes to compress these files to meet my 10MB limit. Also, I would like to give some direction on the other end for him to open it in windows/itunes if possible. Should I store these songs in such a large file format for that matter? Mix down to itunes then transfer to smaller file size, then delete large files...

That's up to you. The uncompressed AIFF files are of the highest quality, but you can always make another mixdown from the GB file if you want to.

  • Trouble compressing Qtime to mp4.zip

    Hello out there,
Ihave a Qtime movie 16.3MB and need to compress for email. I Control-clickd the file and selected "create archive of..." and created the mp4.zip file. The problem is the file did not compress. It remains at 16.3MB which exceeds the 10MB limit on the size of email files which can be sent through my yahoo acct.
    Thanks

Don't know what settings you used in the file that could have made it larger in size. No matter.
I use my iDisk to send large files (just email a link to it).
You can also send files using iChat (no file size limit).
Last, there are dozens of servers that allow upload/download of "private" files. Their limits go up to GB's and usually small files like yours are free.
Sorry I don't have any names or links of these services as I don't use them.
