11.0.2 does not increment play count

I have smart playlists that are based on play count.  Sometimes as iTunes plays the count increments and sometimes it doesn't.  When it does, it replaces the tune it was just playing insteads of adding a new tune to the bottom of the list.  When it doesn't iTunes moves down the list.  Eventually it gets to the bottom and stops.  If the count criteria is < 1, it should increment the count, remove the tune from the list and add another at the bottom but it doesn't.
I have cross-fade turned off.  I understand this used to be a problem that was fixed.  However, I left it off anyhow.
What else do I need to check/correct/do?

I made some screen shots to demonstrate.  First is the initial list when I started to play it followed by the list when the last track had completed.  This demonstates how some tracks get their count incremented and are replaced while others do not.
BTW, it does appear that the list is updated in place rather than at the end.  I was looking for a list that would never stop playing but I guess that is impossible.  No matter, I can make it long enough to work but I can't figure out why sometimes the count gets incremented and sometimes it doesn't

  • Itunes does not maintain play count

Since I was forced to ?up?grade to 11.0.5 two weeks ago play counts on my shuffle have not updated.  Syncing apparently is brain-damaged and does not take into account overhead for the database in determining what songs could be copied to the iPod.

What are you talking about...  At best, my test shows that it works in the simplest scenario.  If it failed, it definitely confirms what you described, and that probably means there's a bug.  But it did not fail.  That's how testing is done.  You use the simpliest test conditions first.
What I wanted you to do is is duplicate my test.  Did you do a Restore on your shuffle, to see if data corruption is the cause, as I mentioned in the last reply?  If not, do a Restore.  Then, manually load ONE song.  Play that song on the shuffle until it starts to play a second time.  Note the Plays number for that song in your iTunes library. Connect the shuffle and see if the Plays number increases by 1.  If it passes that basic test, THEN use Autofill to fully load the shuffle, and see if it's still working properly now, or not.  If it fails that basic test, it means that "capacity" is not relevant; it doesn't even work with one song loaded.  And since you just did a Restore, there is no data corruption involved either.
Since my shuffle is now fully loaded using Autofill, I tried another test just now.  I played my shuffle and skipped forward until I found a song that I definitely knew by name and artist.  I played that song all the way, until the next song started to play.  I found that song in my iTunes library and noted the Plays number.  When I connected the shuffle, the Plays number increased by 1.  Test passed.

  • ATV2 won't increment play count

This has been discussed in the past. Was a problem with ATV2 when it first came out, then fixed. Now with the latest update again. It does not increment the play count of content played streamed from the iTunes library. Well that's about the only content one can play. I do have it checked in the iTunes prefs to increment play count. I've tried unchecking, quitting iTunes, and then rechecking. I've rebooted, I've cursed;)
I'm streaming from my iMac i7 via Wireless N from my Airport Extreme. I have a great signal. Everything plays beautifully, no problem. In fact when I finish an episode of a TV show it is hidden, like it's marked play. But if I leave the ATV, it goes to sleep, it never updates iTunes. So the next time when I go to TV shows on my ATV2 it's there as un watched.
Does anyone have any idea how I might get this to work? It's a real bother as playlists are based on when media is watched.
    Thanks

  • Music does not stop playing when I disconnect from USB in car

When iphone is connected to car stereo, music does not stop playing when I disconnect the usb cable. If someone is calling me and I unplug from USB, all I hear in my ear is music...I cannot hear the person calling me. Not sure what's happened but it never used to do this. Any suggestions?

Nseries phones have behaved this way since forever.
I don't know any way to change this. Same behavior happens if you unplug your headset or headphones.

  • Youtube does not stop playing?

    Hi,
I'm able to embed the youtube videos through iAd Producer in order to include as a widget that's in iBooks Author. They play on the iPad in iBooks fine. However, when I close the full screen widget without tapping the pause button, the video does not stop playing. The screen will go back to the text of the book but the sound of the video keeps playing until it ends. I have to swipe two pages away for it to end.
Is there a way for it to automatically end when closing the widget?
    Thanks!

That sounds like a bug in iBooks. I'd report it at bugreport.apple.com.

  • ACE show serverfarm - failure counter does not incremented on Probe-Failure event

    Hi,
Despite of probe-failure the failure counter is not incremented. Is there any correlation between the configured probe and the failure counter?
(Custom script probe is used for this serverfarm)
    # sh serverfarm xxxxxSt
    serverfarm     : xxxxxSt, type: HOST
    total rservers : 2
                                                    ----------connections-----------
real                  weight state        current    total      failures
       ---+---------------------+------+------------+----------+----------+---------

       rserver: xxxxx7
           10.222.0.92:8000      8      PROBE-FAILED 0          0          0
    Thanks,
    Attila

    Hi Attila,
The Connection Failure counter under show serverfarm is for Loadbalanced Connections which are failing.
If Probes are failing, this counter will not increment.
The Connection failure counter can increment for various reasons some of them are,
    - Server not responding to the SYN packet sent by ACE for Loadbalanced connection
    - Server sending Reset to the SYN packet sent by ACE for Loadbalanced connection
To check on stats for Probe, you can run "show probe detail" command.
    Hope this helps,
    Best Regards,

  • Sync increments play count for songs that haven't played since last sync

Sometime in the last two months, my iPhone 3G and iTunes started showing a bizarre behavior. I have a smart playlist that only plays songs that have not been played in the last 4 weeks and that have not been played more than a certain number of times (I add 1 to that number after each time it goes through my entire library). I sync the phone every night (because I don't want to lose the recently played data if the iPhone resets for some reason - another irritating bug). Anyway, sometimes when I sync the phone, it increments the play count for songs that were played before the previous sync as well as the songs played since the last sync. This means that those songs are being double counted, even though they were only played once.
Here's another way to describe the story:
Day 1: Play 50 songs with play count value X (call this set A). Sync at end of day, now all 50 songs in set A have play count value X+1.
Day 2: Play 50 more songs with play count X (call this set B). Sync at end of day, now songs in set B have play count X+1, but songs in set A now have play count X+2 (even though they were not played again).
Day 3: 50 more songs (set C). After sync, songs in set C have play count X+1, those in B have play count X+2, and those in set A have play count X+3.
It never seems to go more than 3 days back. This is not reliable - in fact, I thought it was fixed after the last iTunes update, but it just happened again.
One other thing that I notice: whenever this happens, the count shown for the playlist on the iPhone is incorrect. For example, today before the sync, it said I was on song 156 of 271 in my playlist. However, I only played about 50 songs today, and I synced last night, so it restarted the playlist from 1. I don't know when it jumped so much - when I restarted the playlist this morning, it was on 6 of 271 (which was correct).
The only other thing I think may play into this is when I have my playlist carry overnight (i.e. I start playing it at night after the sync, then come in in the morning and have it pick up where it left off). I am usually pretty good about syncing at the end of every day, but I think that I'm only seeing this behavior when I have this overnight thing going on.
Anyway, has anyone else seen this behavior? Does anyone have any suggestions? I would not use the play count in my smart playlist, but it's the only way to ensure that random play actually gets through my entire playlist when I'm forced to sync every night (because of the other bug).

wow, this is messed up! i'm sorry, but i don't have a solution for you, more of a 'work around'. what i have started doing is using the 'genre' field to keep track of the songs i have listened to, and those that i have not.
i set the genre for all of my songs to be '0'. after syncing, in my iPhone, i go into the 'genre' listing, go into '0', hit 'view all songs' and start playing the first song i have. next, when i sync, i change the 'genre' in all of the songs i've listened to to '1', and after i resync, i can go into my iPhone (using the same method above) and start playing the songs i haven't listened to.
i know it's a pain, but it's the only workaround i have for this problem. i'm very disappointed in apple and the iPhone because of their lack of awesome playlist support. i had a creative mp3 player that was supremely awesome with playlists. i would add all of my songs to a 'playlist', and be able to listen to a few songs, then go watch a video, and when i went back into the music player, it would remember the last song i was listening to. it wouldn't remember where i was in the song, but the fact that it remembered the song i was listening to made it one of the best devices i've had. i wish that apple would spend some time and make this functionality possible.

  • 4th Gen ipod not keeping Play Count

4th gen ipod, software version 3.1.1, itunes 8
My ipod is no longer keeping track of play count or last played. It seemed to stop when I update the software on the ipod. I manually manage my music, and I do not care if it syncs back to the songs on my hard drive. But when I plug my ipod in and look at the songs on there, it does not show that I have listened to anything.

I would use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod's hard drive and initialize the iPod's software. Then sync all of your songs in your iTunes library back to the iPod.

  • IOS not updating play count. What's up with that?

The play count on iTunes does not seem to be functioning correctly. Anybody else experiencing this or have some suggestions on how to fix this?
The play count updates fine but only when I am playing it directly from my computer or streaming it with "Home Sharing". When I listen to a song on my iPhone 5s, iPad 3, or iPhone 4 (had it laying around so used it as a test) it does not increase the play count on my computer once I sync the device. I always make sure that I am running the most up to date software so that is not the problem.
    I'm running:
    iTunes:        11.1.5
    iPhone 5s:   7.1
    iPad 2:         7.1
iPhone 4:     7.0 (only device not completely up to date)
This has become a bit frustrating for me.
Has anybody else experience this or know how to solve it?
    Thanks,
    Michael

Way late replying to this, but I've found the syncing of play counts to be very unreliable. It does sometimes happen - as best I can tell, what makes a difference is syncing twice. The first time often doesn't do much; the second time syncs information over.
Details: I don't have iTunes Match turned on; I only sync manually, with a cable. I turned off wireless sync a couple of years ago because it seemed to be even more flaky.

  • ITunes not syncing play counts from iOS devices

I realize this is a small thing to some people, but my music-listening abnd playlisting habits are fairly OCD and are depenedent on play count tallies....
Long story short, I updated my iTunes software the other day to 10.5.3. Now, when I plug my iPad (1) and iPhone(4s) in to the iMac to sync, the playcounts and last played data does not appear to by syncing. Is anyone else having this problem?
I actually spoke to someone at applecare, and they suggested selecting "homesharing updates playcount" in preferences, which I did, but that does not appear to affect anything when I amsyncing directly from the iOS devices. I have not started using itunes match yet, partially because of concerns about play counts, so I am still syncing the old-fashioned way, with a cord.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • "Set" (Not Reset) Play Count

Hi, I would like to specify a number of playcounts for certain songs. So for example I buy the video version of a song that I previously had audio only. So I want to transfer the count from the audio version to the new video version so that it ranks in the right place in my "most played" songs. I can see how to "reset" the playcount but this does not help given it moves the count to zero.
    Thanks. Matt

Go to Doug's Applescripts for iTunes page (a Google search will turn up the URL for you and search for an Applescript called "Add or Subtract Playcount". It works great. You select a song or group of songs, click the Applescripts menu, pick that one, then enter in the number you want to add or subtract then simply click the PLUS or the MINIS button and that many counts will be added or subtracted from the total.

  • New nano not updating play counts - any help would be greatly appreciated!

I purchased a new nano (7G) yesterday. When I play music (and plug it back into my computer) the play count / last played does not update on my computer. I've tried restoring and turning sync on and off again (I use manual update) to no avail.
I didn't have this issue with my old iPod, so it shouldn't be a problem with iTunes. The play count does go up according to the nano's display, but it doesn't transfer to my computer's play counts. I also tried an old suggestion of playing a podcast for 30 seconds before plugging it, but that didn't work either.
Using 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.7. I hope I'm just missing something simple. Thanks!

I found this about what I think is the same problem I had, although mine was with my iphone but think it could be useful. I think my issue was that i had put my girlfriends phone on first so when i put mine on, it prioritised the original one. Not sure anyway, but sounds similar and for now it has been fixed.
Right Click on your iphones name and click sync one more time, when this is done, click on your music folder under your iphones name you will get this message "You have changed the settings for the iPhone “dermott o'donnell’s iPhone”. Would you like to apply these changes?" click apply
and the play count should be updated, my music is managed manually as well

  • Itunes on my windows 7 pc does not Air Play. how can I fix this?

How can I make Air Play on my windows 7?

    Hello Raag Thaal,
I would be concerned too if my music didn't playback in iTunes.  I found an article that specifically addresses issues with the music not playing and the playhead not progressing in iTunes.  I recommend following the steps in the article below:

  • Keynote presentation does not automatically play upon open when called from another keynote presentation

I have a master keynote presentation that hyperlinks to other keynote presentations.  The called keynote presentations open, but do not automatically play even though I have marked them to automatically play upon open.  What am I doing incorrectly?

Automatically Play on open, has the same function as pressing the play button in the tool bar.
Once the presentation is playing,  it will move to the next slide  depending on
how you have set the options in:
    Inspector > Document > Presentation
the choices to advance to the next slide are:
normal           - requires a keyboard press or a muse click to advance
Hyperlink       - requires the mouse to click on an object with a hyperlink
Recorded      - plays back using the recorded narration sound track
Self-playing   - will advance according to the options in the delay times set in
    Inspector > Document > Presentation

  • IPad not syncing play counts

    Hi,
My iPad isn't syncing play counts when I connect it to my PC.
I use the 'manually manage music' feature to put music on my iPad, usually about 10-15 albums to listen to at a time.
But after I've played them, the play counts don't update when I sync my iPad with my PC when I want to change my music.
They do update on the iPad itself, but won't update on iTunes on my PC.
This means I have to manually update my play counts in iTunes, which is very frustrating and time-consuming.
Has anyone had this issue before and did they find a solution?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hello,
I might be able to help you with this. I do not have an iPad but I can tell you that I also use PowerBooks and PowerMacs that are running Mac OS 10.5.8 (Leopard with updates). I have the same problem with my iPhone 5 and what it comes down to is the version of iTunes that is supported on the older Macs that use the PowerPC processor instead of the newer Intel based systems. The last version of ITunes to run on the PPC based Macs including iMacs and iBooks is not capable of syncing with the newer iPhones and I am fairly certain that will apply to your iPad as well. You also will not be able to use ICLOUD on you iMac as well. I hope this helps you snd if you have any further questions please let me know.
    Cheers,
    Dr. Matt
