11.1.5.5, playback, distortion, Windows 7

Playback works fine for several minutes, and then suddenly there's lots of distortion. Any ideas would be helpful. I've seen threads about toggling the EQ settings, but that doesn't seem to work. Also checking against other audio outputs, both on-board and online such as Windows Media Player and Pandora. Both seem fine so far. Also checked if it was streaming from iCloud vs. a downloaded file and both will start distorting after several minutes. Thanks for any help!
System - New i3 64 bit with 8gigs of memory. M-Audio M-Track Interface with updated driver. It's not the machine.

I had the same problem on windows 7. I changed the "Bitrate for Audio Playback" and "Bits Per Sample For Audio" settings to lower values and the problem is gone.  Goto Edit, Preferences, Playback. Then restart iTunes. Worked for me. Good luck.

  • Quicktime playback distortion?

    I'm getting playback distortion from Itunes/Quicktime... Does anyone know how I can fix this? I have WinXP, and a Soundblaster Audigy 2. Downloaded the latest Itunes/Quicktime, and the latest Audigy 2 drivers.
    Thanks for the help

  • Firefox is opening a new distorted window instead of a new tab like it always has until last night.

    Last night when I got home from work (no one has access to my laptop when i am gone) I went to access my email just like I always do. I clicked on the link (Hotmail on MSN's home page) and it usually opens a new tab where I can then sign in. Last night it opened a new window with no access to any toolbars. I have "reset" all my options, reinstalled firefox and nothing is working. I continually get this distorted window, I can't even type in a new address for a new web site. Help!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == last night after work

    Nope - that didn't work either! What I have at stage 3 above is this readout:
    * browser.link.open_newwindow; status: default; type:integer; value:3
    * browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction; status: default; type:integer; value:2
    * services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.link.open_newwindow; status: default; type:boolean; value:true
    I didn't change any values: they were already at the values above: and I presumed the '3' referrred to the first line....
    I didn't want to mess around with the '2', because apparently there are dragons in there!

  • Audio playback distortion?

    Is there audio playback distortion with itunes and icloud?

    Since I have upgraded and/or using itunes cloud, sound from itunes on computer is really fuzzy,distorted. I have read that perhaps it is because I have an older computer (Intel Core 2 Duo [email protected] GHZ 4G RAM?) 6 years old, which is old by computer standards.

  • Playback on Windows Media Player?

    When saving a video for playback on a computer, it gives several options for file type. I need one that will allow playback on Windows Media Player. I see the for playback using Quicktime. Will this also play in WMP or which one do I select for this purpose? Thank you!

    What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    Windows 8 and 8.1 64 bit (independent of Premiere Elements) have problems with what will or will not play in its Windows Media Player. Files with MPEG2 compression seem to be a major problem in that regard.
    I have been able to open videos with the .mov file extension in Windows Media Player or QuickTime (better results in QuickTime) on Windows 7 and 8.1 64 bit.  But a rule of thumb might be to try either player for your file, if problems, download and install the VLC player and determine if that works for your overall video playback needs. There is also a Media Classic Player HC that you might want to consider.

  • Issue: Playback devices window

    Re. Toshiba Satellite L755-S5277
    Issue: No audio over HDMI cable.
    Regular Toshiba W7 Home original Toshiba software re-install from HD.
    Observation: Playback devices, shows only "Speakers Conexant Smartsudio HD Default Device", and nothing else.
    Questions:
    1.  Is there supposed to be anything other than "Speakers Conexant Smartsudio HD Default Device" in the Playback devices window ?  Yes / No
    2.  If yes, then what ?
    Thanks.

     Jerry,
    Your suggestion to reinstall the Intel Display driver was very helpful.
    Thank you.
    In the playback window, now appears "Sharp HDMI...",
    and now I have audio at the TV, but I have to disable the "Speakers Conexant..."
    in order to get the sound to stop coming from the laptop,
    and instead come from the TV.
    Previous to the Audio problem, this was somehow happening automatically
    whenever I connected the HDMI cable, now I need to manually disable the "Speakers Conexant...".
    It there some configuration that would make this process automatic again ?

    <FONT face="Courier New" size=3>When I play MP3s through the Audigy, however, there is none of this overloading or distortion.

  • Video Playback Flicker Windows 7/8 Media Center? Disable Intel Dynamic Contrast to stop it

    If you bought a Mac Mini for use as a Windows Media Center DVR Computer like me, you'll notice a background flicker on live tv or recorded tv.
    Mine is the Mac Mini (Late 2012 Model) with Intel HD 4000 Graphics
    If you go into the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel. (icon in lower right) Go to Graphics Properties, Advanced Mode, Media, Image Enhancement, and UN-check the box for "Adaptive Contrast Enhanscement"
    Video will then be flicker free!  (aka 29/59 bug)
    Here's a video that walks you through it.
    http://youtu.be/9g6Z1sWOOIA
    Also, if you have white snow, or video blank outs their is a firmware update for the Mac Mini 2012 model itself.   I use Boot Camp, so my Mac OS X Mountain Lion side could update things when needed.  (but leave the machine running 99% of the time in Windows 8 as my DVR)
    I learned this from:

  • Dragging new tab results in distorted window

    When I drag a tab out from Safari and drop it to create a new window, the windows thus created is distorted and has various display artefacts.
    Check out the images below to see what I mean.
    (1) The toolbar has various problems including protrusions and mis-alignment of the cursor and address bar.
    (2)The anti-aliasing in the window is wrong, as though scaled to 99%
    The problem is fixed by resizing the malformed window with the green "maximize" control.
    Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi Nicholas,
    Open a Finder window select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. Then open the Library folder, then the Caches folder, then the com.apple.Safari folder. Move the cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.
    If the problem persists, login to another account on your Mac and try Safari there. If you see the same behavior there, then it's a system wide problem, not just your user account that's effected.

  • Solution to playback distortion in iMovie HD 6 under Snow Leopard

    For those having problems with distorted playback in iMovie HD 6 when running the program under Snow Leopard 10.6.3, please see my post today in this thread for a solution that has worked for me:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11608689#11608689
    John

    I took the plunge and updated to 10.6.3 not long after its release, as I prefer to be up to date with all my software. However, I did this with some trepidation. I needn't have worried (even though I had a backup), as everything seems to be working OK - other than that glitch with iMovie HD 6 playback, which is now resolved for me.
    So, currently I have no issues with 10.6.3 - in fact my upgrade may not have been the culprit. I will be interested to hear what your experience is catspaw - if and when you move to the 10.6.3 version.
    Thanks for your comment catspaw.

  • How do I solve unwanted playback distortion on certain audio CDs?

    I am having issues with distortion either playing back, or ripping certain audio CDs. I have checked the audio settings, it's nothing to do with them.  I have checked the CDs in other devices, it's not them. I've tried other CDs, they work fine. I've tried playing audio files, they play just fine.
    I've performed a system restore back to the 7th August that hasn't solved it (but I might try going back further).  And it doesn't seem to be anything to do with my software as I'm having issues on both iTunes and Windows Media Player 12.
    I'm operating Windows 7 Home premuim on a HP Pavillion g6 1207sa. I'm at my wits end as I seem to have tried everything and thus far have got nowhere. Help!

    Thanks for your reply. Sorry I wasn't specific about this. I get distortion in iTunes when I play straight from this particular CD and when I import it. With QuickTime, I get no distortion when I play straight from the CD, but (I hadn't tried this before but I just gave it a go) I do get distortion when I play the .m4a file created by iTunes. So presumably it's something iTunes is doing when it processes the .aiff file from the CD.
    At the moment the import settings are:
    Import using: AAC Encoder
    Setting: High Quality (128 kbps)
    with the 'Use error correction...' box checked.
    I've never had to touch them before. Is there a better setting to use for importing early CDs?
    Thanks.

  • Problem with playback distortion. Possible latency buffer issue?

    I have noticed a few other posts in the same vain as this but with no clear answers so here is my take on the problem:
    I am experiencing a distorted slowed down playback through logic pro 8 only occasionally which can only be fixed wit a full system restart. It sounds very much like a latency/buffer issue but to be honest I am not too great at fixing this myself. I have tried to change the buffer size to no avail. Recording seems to be fine mostly but it is just on playback. Although today i did experience the same sound issues when recording.
    I am using a brand new macbook 2.4 ghz with a behringer xenix 1622 mixing desk and a usb audio device. I have only just switched to a mac and have recorded before on my pc with the same desk and interface for over 2 years without a problem, so I am positive it is not the external hardware that is at fault.
    I am getting exactly the same problem when I use Garageband.
    Is it just the apple products which do this?
    Is this a common problem with an easy fix?
    I just dont know to be honest with you, i dont pretend to be an expert in the field, it is infuriating.
    Is there a problem with my machine? If so I can change it no problem.
    Please if anyone knows how I can sort this please let me know.
    I am gutted because I bought a mac thinking they were designed for music production, i dont want a pc again!
    Thanks.

    Can you be more specific on your usb device; Make & model... USB2? Visit the manufacturer's website, check compatibility & make sure you've got the latest driver. If you haven't already, run "Software Update" (under the Apple logo in the top left of your screen) & download the updates... this will take a while, so go & get yourself a coffee! Make sure you turn Airport off when you want to use Logic.
    If you're still having prob's check out this link;
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304970
    It's written for Logic 7, but most of it's in the same place.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers...

    Hello geoxero.  I understand your sound card isn't working properly after installing Windows 8.
    I'd first like you to provide me with the Hardware ID for the device.  I can use this to try and find a different Windows 8 driver for you.  Here is how to locate the Hardware ID.
    From either the Metro or Desktop views press the Windows+X key combination.  This opens the "Context Menu."
    Select "Device Manager."
    Expand the "Sound, video, and game controller" section.
    Right click on your sound card and select "Properties."
    Navigate to the "Details" tab.
    Select "Hardware Ids" from the drop-down menu.
    Post these here.
    While you have Device Manager open you should go ahead and remove the device and allow Windows to reinstall it.
    Right click on the device and select "Uninstall."
    Reboot your computer.
    When Windows loads it will reinstall the driver.
    Verify whether the problem persists and post the result.
    I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  Have an amazing day!
    Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
    Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • DASH and Smooth Streaming playback on Windows 10 UAP app

    Hi,
    I'm trying to playback some sample, unencrypted DASH and Smooth Streaming resources from a Windows 10 UAP application. As there isn't great amounts of documentation yet for this kind of applications, I found this...
    ...and tried to do so, including a MediaElement control on a basic page XAML, and trying to set the source from code behind:
    private async void setMediaElementSource()
    var adaptiveSource = await AdaptiveMediaSource.CreateFromUriAsync(new Uri("http://yt-dash-mse-test.commondatastorage.googleapis.com/media/car-20120827-manifest.mpd"));
    //var adaptiveSource = await AdaptiveMediaSource.CreateFromUriAsync(new Uri("http://video3.smoothhd.com.edgesuite.net/ondemand/Big%20Buck%20Bunny%20Adaptive.ism/Manifest"));
    //var adaptiveSource = await AdaptiveMediaSource.CreateFromUriAsync(new Uri("http://playready.directtaps.net/smoothstreaming/TTLSS720VC1/To_The_Limit_720_230.ismv"));
    MediaElement.SetMediaStreamSource(adaptiveSource.MediaSource);
    But it always ends up with an Unsupported Manifest Profile exception:
    I should be missing any SmoothByteStreamHandler registration or something like that, but checking with AdaptiveMediaSource.IsContentTypeSupported("application/dash+xml"), I get a true value confirming this ContentType is supported.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gorka Madariaga

    Hi Gorka,
    Thanks for raising this issue to our attention.  Unfortunately after reaching out within the team, we found that we had some incorrect information posted for HTTP Live Streaming in the "What's new in Windows 10 Developer Preview" blog post.
    Smooth streaming is actually not currently supported, only HLS and DASH.
    For DASH support, we currently only support the "ISO Base media file format
    live profile," identified by the URN "urn:mpeg:dash:profile:isoff-live:2011."
    It looks like you may be attempting to play a manifest that is a "ISO Base media file format
    On Demand profile," identified by the URN "urn:mpeg:dash:profile:isoff-on-demand:2011," which is currently not supported.  An unsupported manifest error will be returned if the DASH MPD does not contain the Live Profile
    URN (you can have multiple URNs, and only one needs to match).
    We've updated the blog post with the correct information, and we also wanted to let you know there's some additional documentation for this API
    here.
    Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
    Regards,
    Anthony

  • ITunes keeps freezing during playback on windows 8

    iTunes 11.0.1.12 is freezing periodically (30-40 times per day) for up to 3-5 minutes, regardless of what I'm doing.  Note, this does not happen during any specific activity, but during simple music playback.     When this happening, iTunes shows in the Task Manager as "Not Responding".
    My PC Specs:
    OS: Windows 8 64bit
    Ram: 16GB
    Intel Core i7-3770KCPU @ 3.50GHz
    I did not have this problem with iTunes in Windows 7.  I believe that all of my settings are the same.
    I have tried:  elevating the process priority in Task Manager.
    Running iTunes as the Administrator (program properties on shortcut).
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi Kengc2,
    I'm having the same problem as you.
    Running
    OS: Win 8 64bit
    Ram: 8GB
    Intel Core i7 - 2600k @ 3.5GHz
    Must be something in Windows 8, as I did not have any problems with Win 7.
    Having said that my itunes foldered is stored on my NAS so not sure is the slow network speed is causing the issue.
    Interested to know whether windows makes a hot fix or whethers apple are secretly trying to get more Apple customers
