11.2.0.3 RAC ASM Pri with Normal FileSys Active Standby Post Failover
The architecture consist of two node rac asm primary and one normal filesystem active standby all on Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.3. With basic Broker Configuration.
Performed a managed broker switchover and not the Normal Filesystem has the primary role and the standby consist of the two node asm rac. I want to switchback, i.e., Former Primary -> Primary Role and Former Standby -> Standby Role.
However my broker contains the following:
DGMGRL> show configuration verbose;

I've found a recommendation to increase the value of FastStartFailoverThreshold='90';
Though I continue to encounter the above configuration error.
Recommendations are appreciated!

Issues with IPSEC on active standby ASA 5545-X
We have two 500 meg layer 2 links with ethernet presentation. Each end of these links connected to the outside interface of an ASA firewall in active standby. So four firewalls total.
When I configure an IPsec between them and failover one end, the tunnel fails over correctly. When I failover back to the primary, it stalls until manually cleare in the ASDM or cli.
I dont really understand why it works at all rather than just the first time so would appreciate some assistance. Is some sort of tracking required? I've attached a diagram which I hope helps.
Running asa912-smp-k8.bin and asdm-713.binGurjitSra
Correct. In order to reload IPS without triggering failover you'll need to remove IPS inspection from policy-maps so that failover will not track IPS status.

Phones with the same Active Standby Calendar as 66...
Hello,
I currently have a 6650 Fold Nokia Handy. I like it because the Active Standby Calendar does show you all appointments in the near future. For example:
01.04 Date with Caroll
03.04 Date with Jecky
05.04 Birtday Paul
07.04 Doctor
Im very happy with it and I dont want to miss that feature.
But now Im looking for a new phone and Im shocked that most new Nokia phones do only show 1 or 2 Calendar entrys on the Active Standby Screen!
Even the E Series, wich is supposed to be Buisness Phones, do only show up more then one appointmens when they are on the same day!
Can anyone tell me what Nokia Sliders have the same Active Standby Calendar as the Nokia 6650 Fold?

One the newer touch phones though, on shortcuts bar homescreen you can see up to 10 events listed.
Only if all of them are on the same or next day. It won't display them any further ahead than that. So if you have one entry saved for today, one for tomorrow and one for the day after that it will only show two entries.
What could be an option to consider is an N97 or N97mini with the coming next calendar widgets installed. This allows many entries to be shown from days to months ahead.

Archivelogs deleted in RAC ASM Production for standby
Hi,
DB: 10.2.0.4
OS: AIX 5.3 L
This is 2 node RAC ASM database with single standby on ASM.
I set the retention policy to 2 days for my Live database.While running the TAPE backup script, the archivelogs were deleted .The deleted archivelogs are generated just before /while the TAPE backup.Backup script has not considered the retention policy for Primary.All archivelogs , except generated after backup ,were deleted .
Now my standby is waiting for deleted archivelogs.
How do i can make sync of my standby with Primary ?.
Please understand my position and request you to help me on this.

Sunand
Edited by: sunand on Jan 22, 2011 3:15 AMHi Jean & Abhi,
Thanks you very much for your reply.
I came out the problem with following taking the backup of incremental from standby SCN value.
Actually i did not have backup of deleted archivelog .Now my standby database is in sync with primary and working fine.
About recovering of deleted archivelog from backup piece, If i run below script , whether it will recover the specified archivelogs to our archivelog destination or will recover to database ?.I never done this before.Could you explain me ,please.
run
allocate channel t1 type sbt.....;
restore archivelog from sequence X until sequence Y thread 1;
Also, my database is on ASM. Once we recover the archivelogs,how do i can move to standby?.I mean , moving them from ASM to file system and registering to standby database .
Thank you very much,

DB : 10.2.0.4 ASM
OS : AIX 5.2 L
My setup is 2 node RAC ASM primary with single standby ASM.We are doing failover this week.After failover happened and tested , in recreating DR , i have few doubts.
1) While recreating the DR, Already datafiles in ASM DR will be there .
Shall i have to remove(asmcmd) / drop(DBCA) those files before recreating DR ?.
If i do create duplicate database without removing files in DR , will it override existing files and create standby DB ,right?.
2) What about standby Redo logs.
Shall i have to remove them before recreating DR ?.If i want to delete them, can delete from asmcmd , right?.
What will be the best way to recreate the standby in ASM.
Thanks,
SunandIf i do create duplicate database without removing files in DR , will it override existing files and create standby DB ,right?.
certainly you can do it, however its risky,if something goes wrong, again its big mess, avoid such a things, remove detafiles, create new files it must replicate Primary, then restore DB.
Shall i have to remove them before recreating DR ?.If i want to delete them, can delete from asmcmd , right?.
certainly yes, your not adding redo logs in standby, you're just adding redo and redo-standby logs in primary only, you can remove it. -
Restore DB13 Oracle backup of RAC+ASM to Standalone server with ASM only
Dear Experts,
My SAP ECC System is on Oracle 11g with RAC on ASM. I am taking the backup using DB13 with init<SID>.sap profile as attached.
I want to restore this backup on single node System with only ASM(no RAC). (ASM File system structure remains the same)
As per my finding and as per Note 1627541 - BR*Tools support for Oracle ASM and Exadata/ODA, it says use only BRRECOVER to restore the database.
Can anyone please assist me, in restoring the database. As in step by step commands or points to follow the restore.
Thanks,
KKHi Yayati,
Please refer to SAP guidelines on the configuration for using brtools on Oracle RAC + ASM
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0063fdad-49f6-2e10-22bc-
c8c4c7f9e055?QuickLink=ora&ov…
Additional configuration information can be checked under SAP note
Note 1598594 - BR*Tools configuration for Oracle inst. under "oracle" user
you need to adapt your init<SID>.sap file according to the recommendations suggested.
Post this you may use brtools to backup and perform restoration as well.
Hope this helps.

I originally posted this in the DB Installation area, but after getting a better feel for the Forums, it probably should have been posted here.

11gR2 2 node RAC/ASM hanging
"Hi,
I am attempting to install 11gR2 on two nodes.
Things seem to be going quite well from the first node, including running of root.sh
On the second node however, when running root.sh it hangs at this point :

Any ideas where I should look? Do you need more information?

How to restore (not duplicate) DB from RAC ASM to non ASM
Hello everybody,
i am trying to recover db from RAC+ASM to non ASM no RAC node. I am running Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) on Win2003 Server. I have functional backup from my prod system.
Here are my steps:
*1. On prod server i make backup running this script in RMAN*
configure channel device type 'SBT_TAPE' parms'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=e:\backup)';
RUN {
backup device type SBT_TAPE database tag zal20081129;
SQL 'alter system archive log current';
backup device type SBT_TAPE archivelog ALL tag zal20081129;
*2. I prepared clon instance on another server (The same Oracle version) and start it to nomount mode.*
*3. I copied the backup from prod server to clon server to exactly the same path. (e:\backup)*
*4. I connect to RMAN on my new node and I use the DBID parameter and I restore controlfile.*
rman
connect target /
set DBID 3079749916
startup nomount
run {
allocate CHANNEL CTAPE DEVICE TYPE 'SBT_TAPE' PARMS'SBT_LIBRARY=oracle.disksbt,ENV=(BACKUP_DIR=f:\backup)';
allocate channel CDISK DEVICE TYPE DISK;
restore controlfile from 'f:\backup\78k91lrn_1_1';
alter database mount;
*5.Then I check the backup, crosscheck etc.*

So obviouslly database wants to open online logs in the path like ASM. Which is wrong. What should I do to tell database to open it according to init.ora parameters
*.db_create_file_dest='e:\oradata\agost'
*.db_create_online_log_dest_1='e:\oradata\agost'
Any suggestions???
ThanksHi,
thanks for you quick answer. But I do restore to the local file system, even if the log says:
restoring datafile 00001 to +DATA/agost/datafile/system.272.668509367
restoring datafile 00002 to +DATA/agost/datafile/undotbs1.273.668509387 .....
all the datafiles are correctly restored. I think oracle uses the parameter db_create_file_dest and creates the files there.
I tried also the script with SET NEW NAME:
run {

There must be way how to recover it. I think my first try (without SET NEWNAME) is closer to the end, there is only need to "repair" the online logs.
Any other suggestions?

How to migrate data from oracle 9i database to new machine 11gr2 RAC ASM
Hi Expert
I need your expertise to advise me what is the best method to move data from oracle 9i database to new machine running oracle 11r2 RAC database with ASM.
Currently my production server running on HPUX ORACLE 9I database with normal file system. My new server is running SUN SOLARIS SPACR 64 bit ORACLE 11gr2 RAC with ASM. What is best method to move data over so it will be consistent. Any guide can refer.
Regard
WilliamHi William,
See the note in metalink Migration of Oracle Database Instances Across OS Platforms [ID 733205.1] to saw the Endian Format of your OS. If is the same you can use the RMAN to convert the database to another OS, if not the only option is using export/import (Transportable Tablespaces).
To upgrade from 9i to 11g, see the note 837570.1 - Complete Checklist for Manual Upgrades to 11gR2.
To migrate your FS to ASM the only way is using RMAN, so see the note - How to move a datafile from a file system to ASM [ID 390274.1].
Hope this help you.

Moving RAC/ASM to single-node non-rac SET NEWNAME not working
Good morning,
I'm trying to restore a rac/asm database to a non-rac environment to simulate disaster recovery under worst-case circumstances.
Here is as faras I have been able to get
1) Restored pfile
2) modified pfile to remove references to RAC settings (note, did not set db_file_create_dest, db_file_name_convert, etc)
3) Restored controlfile successfully
4) Mounted database
At this time I run the following rman script which covers all temp and datafiles (there's some skipped numbers where datafiles have been removed previously)
run {
set until time "to_date('2009/11/29 03:00:00','YYYY/MM/DD HH24:MI:SS')";
set newname for tempfile 1 to '/mnt/data/oradata/pmi/temp_1.dbf';
set newname for datafile 1 to '/mnt/data/oradata/pmi/system_1.dbf';
set newname for datafile 2 to '/mnt/data/oradata/pmi/undotbs1_2.dbf';

I noticed that it's trying to create the datafile. Shouldn't it be giving me a "Restoring datafiles from backup piece" clause? Also it appears to be trying to recreate the datafiles in their old location. Any thoughts on how to get around this.
Using the db_file_name_convert does allow me to restore files to the filesystem, but they use names such as "omf_*" and I'm not sure if it's converting the files properly from ASM format.
Thanks!Hi,
I assume your problem is either in your pfile ( but you indicate you have removed all RAC settings), or in your control file.
I would recommend to remove the control files and create them later as soon as the datafiles have been restored, using the commands:
STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "OMST01" NORESETLOGS FORCE LOGGING NOARCHIVELOG
-- SET STANDBY TO MAXIMIZE PERFORMANCE
MAXLOGFILES 100
MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
MAXDATAFILES 1024
MAXINSTANCES 8
MAXLOGHISTORY 10210
LOGFILE
< your logfiles >
DATAFILE
< your datafiles >
CHARACTER SET <your character set>;So the steps are
Startup nomount with the pfile
Restore the datafiles using rman
Shutdown the database
Use above script to create the control files
It is possible you need to use the RESETLOGS option instead of the NORESETLOGS

How do we clone a database from RAC/ASM to RAC/ASM?
Is there a best practice or recommended recipe for cloning from a RAC/ASM instance to another RAC/ASM instance? We've done single instance cloning in the past with RMAN and it looks like grid control does something similar -- until we try to clone from one Exadata cluster to another. Surely this is now a common procedure...?
much thanks,
GaryHi,
I would not use cloning with 11.2. anymore.
Though this will work (you have to take care of copying some more stuff though, like the gpnp profile), simply using the "addnode.sh" which works in silent mode in 11.2. is a lot easier.
Re: Any issues to add 3rd node to 11gr2 grid with 11.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.4 homes?

SAP on Oracle RAC+ASM 11g - SWPM installation Option
Dear Experts,
I came across SAP Note 1977393 which is describing the installation steps of a RAC installation with SWPM with an example.
However, the note is not describing the exact preparation steps to be performed on the cluster nodes.
For example, the note doesn't describe if it's required to install the Oracle Grid Infrastructure on the Cluster Nodes before using the SWPM with the RAC+ASM option.
Thanks in advance.
Mohamed AwnyHi Mohamed,
Details of selection parameters can be found in the link below

Hope this helps.

I am planning to install Oracle 10g RAC with ASM for our Oracle 10.2.0.4 database on Solaris 10. We have a Sun StorEdge SAN.
I would like to get your suggestions for the best storage infrastructure for the RAC/ASM.
Can someone share their storage design - RAID LUN's, Disk layout for the RAC environment? Do you have RAID volumes or individual Disks presented to the O.S? If RAID Volumes, then what RAID level are you using? Since ASM stripes and mirrors (normal or high redundancy), how have you layed out your storage for ASM?
Should I create one RAID LUN and present it to the operating system, so that ASM diskgroup can be created from that LUN or individual disks can be presented?
If anyone can point me to any documentation that can put some light on the storage design and layout, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance!Refer:- it may helps you.

Convert ASM single instance to RAC ASM instance...
Hi, all
Im installing OracleDatabase with RAC and I got an error on the Database Configuration Assistant that says "The ASM instance configured on the local node is a single instance. To manage this instance as a single-instance ASM restart DBCA and select the single instance database option. To manage this instance as RAC ASM, convert it to RAC ASM first".
How I can convert it??
ThanksSee the link below for converting a single instance ASM to RAC ASM. The link is to the Oracle® Database Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide for Linux. If your platform is not Linux, check the Install Guide for your OS.

Cannot perform ASM cloning with EMC BCV sync/split
We have a ASM instance (RAC) on two notes (+ASM1 and +ASM2 respectively).
We wanted to use EMC BCV sync/split to clone the source database. Here are the details
Source
ASM Instance = +ASM1(RAC)
DB Instance = TESTASM (In diskgroup TESTASM_DG)
10.2.0.3 versions both
Target
1) ASM Instance = +ASM2 (RAC)
2) I first created a new diskgroup called TESTASM2_DG (note the 2 in the name) and mounted it.
3) put source TESTASM db in hotbackup mode
4) unix SA did the BCV sync split.
What happenend then was the diskgroup name on the target became TESTASM_DG now (i guess this is because the diskgroup name is stored in the disk header). I was not able to mount it on target. It says ASM disk header corruption.
So then i thought let me re do this and here are the changes
Target
1) Create TESTASM_DG diskgroup (same name as the source). - But create diskgroup failed with
create diskgroup TESTASM_DG
external redundancy DISK '/dev/rdsk/c12t1d4';
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15018: diskgroup cannot be created
ORA-15030: diskgroup name "TESTASM_DG" is in use by another diskgroup
drop diskgroup TESTASM_DG
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15039: diskgroup not dropped
ORA-15001: diskgroup "TESTASM_DG" does not exist or is not mounted
Questions
1) Why is ASM2 saying TESTASM_DG is already in use ? Yes it is being used on the source node by ASM1. So does it mean that a RAC ASM cluster cannot have two same diskgroup names on each of the nodes in this cluster ?
If there is this restriction, then how do we perform BCV sync/split. We use BCV sync/split as our database cloning option. There are other things like RMAN DUPLICATE etc, but that is not feasible for us because of time taken and other performance issues. BCV sync/split is very fast and we want to use it even after ASM
Will most appreciate your help on this.It seems that cloning is not supported on the same host using BCV.Amit, I am not cloning in the same host. I want to clone it on target host NODE 2. But the diskgroup is not getting mounted on NODE 2 becuz of the name clash. If i use different name, then ASM Disk header corruption is coming. So this is where i am struck. RMAN Duplicate is not an option for us because of network related performance problems. We were doing BCV sync/split prior to ASM and we want to continue with that route after ASM.
I will update you folks after working Oracle support and EMC on this.
