11.2.4 Remote Control vs VNC

I have a problem using the remote control with Zenworks (ZCM 11.2.4.0).
Before Zenworks, we used VNC (3.3.9) for the remote control, but since the agent deployment many workstations are not accessible via ZCC.
I noticed this on the workstations in question :
If we install VNC (official version) in addition to Zenworks, where the Zenworks agent has been installed it will destroy almost every files in C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\bin! As a result, the nzrWinVNC.exe no longer exists and the service 'Novell ZENworks Remote Management powered by VNC' disappeared aswell from the list of running services and therefore I cannot remote control the workstations anymore.
I do not understand this behavior.
Is there any effective way to partially restore the corrupted agent (i.e reinstall the RM missing part)? Or otherwise any method that I can follow.
Thank you.

If the ZCM Agent works EXCEPT for Remote Control try the following.
In the ZCC, go into details of the object in the ZCC and configure that
device to "Not install" Remote Management Components.
Force a Remote Refresh (or have someone do it manually on the device.)
Once the refresh is done, Enable Remote Control Components and refresh
again.
This process will tell the agent to remove and then tell it to install
those components. That may help.
And definitely configure a Remote Control Password via your Remote
Control Policy and give it out to your techs. That way if they prefer
VNC to manage devices, they can still do that w/o installing VNC on the PC.

  • How can I remotely control what iTunes song my iMac is playing to multiple AppleTV's?

So I own an iMac that has homesharing enabled.  I then tell the iMac to play to both of my AppleTV's by holding OPTION key down while clicking on Airplay, and checking off the devices that I want it to stream to filling my home with sound that is in sync in every room.  Works beautifully.  Only problem is that I can not then control the iMac remotely from let's say the bedroom to pick a new artist.  The ATV's become dumb clients simply playing what the iMac is pumping to them.  Is there a remote interface that allows me to control iTunes on the iMac to choose the sounds being broadcast to the other Apple devices?
NO.  VNC is a ghetto work around to accomplish this.  Yes, I could do that, but it is inefficient, and inelegant.  I am looking for a remote control app with the  functionality that allows me to connect to and see the device that I want to control, and then by choosing my iMac, see all artists/albums/songs, play them and let the iMac pump the tunes to the devices that I told iTunes to Airplay to.
Ideally, the AppleTV's should know that they are acting as clients to the iMac serving centrally, but when I pick up an AppleTV remote, it overrides the stream from the iMac, and then the ATV begins streaming independently from the other.  I KNOW there is a solution to this...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Adam

ok...  solved it.  By using the Apple Remote app, you can tell the app to control your iMac (I did not know that) and that solved the issue.  Now the iMac plays the song I want to all of the devices that I told the iMac to play to.  Perfect.

  • Remote Control *OF* an iPad???

    Hi,
The subject may be a little confusing -- I'm not looking for an app that can remote control a Mac or Windows desktop, nor one that can control a media center.
I have an iPad and I just bought one for my mother (so glad I talked her out of buying a Windows netbook). Although the learning curve is very easy to use the iPad, I still want to help her when she needs it.
Is there an app that can remotely connect to another iPad? If not, what about a Windows utility that can do it? I suppose if there is a VNC app for the iPad then I can use any freeware VNC client in Windows, like RealVNC or UltraVNC.
I'll continue to do my own search but if anyone can assist, that would be great as well.
    Thanks,
    Roland Thomas

    Hi Thomas,
The iPad dose about 80% of what a computer can do. I think this falls into the 20% the ipad currently can not do. But you could always send a suggestion to Apple. http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
I work around might to have her send screen shots; and email them. or if you have a desktop or portable computer you could have her video chat with you, and have her set the camera to point a the ipad.

  • Remote control and screen on/off

Hi, recently I upgraded my iMac to Yosemite
In the past when I was using the older MacOS, I was able to control the music using the apple remote while keeping the screen off (I use control+shift+eject to turn off the screen)
But now whenever I press the keys on the remote control the screen turns back on
Any settings I can do or can I simply use the apple remote to switch off the screen?
    Thanks

I never even notices you could initiate screensharing inside of ServerAdmin
Try connecting to the server this way:
From Finder, command-k, at the Connect to Server box, enter:
vnc://192.168.1.10 (change to your server's private IP)
This will launch the ScreenSharing application and start a connection to that machine.
Screensharing uses port 5900 (same as vnc) so you shouldn't need to open other ports.

  • Remotely Control Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hey,
So this is my problem: I've got two computers at home. One's a Mac and the other is a Wndows 7 Home Premium machine.
I have Lion Server coupled with ARD 3 and need to remotely control the Windows computer. I have installed VNC 4 (on Windows) but don't know what to do next.
I understand there is a bunch of restrictions within Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes to remote connections but it's something I really need to sort out.
Do you know how to set up ARD with Windows VNC (or any other paths to remote control)?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hey,
So on the Windows PC the "Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer" checkbox is marked.
And on the Mac the error message reads:
"The Mac cannot connect to the Windows based computer.
    This problem can occur if:
    • The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections.
    • The Windows-based computer is not turned on.
    • The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator."
    Thanks for being so helpful!

  • Difference between remote management and vnc

Difference between remote management and vnc

By VNC I will presume you mean 'Screen Sharing'.
Screen Sharing in System Preferences - Sharing is purely for remote control and is based on the VNC protocol with a few extra features added by Apple.
Remote Management in System Preferences does everything Screen Sharing does and is fully compatible with another Mac doing just Screen Sharing, i.e. it allows remote control. However it can also do additional things. It is intended for use with Apple's Remote Desktop Administration software which can use this to send files to a Mac, send (Unix) commands to a Mac and ask for a report from the Mac (e.g. how much RAM it has).
If you don't have Apple Remote Desktop there is no real point enabling Remote Management instead of Screen Sharing.
Both Screen Sharing and Remote Management can also be configured to allow 100% standard VNC connectivity from say a PC, as standard they only accept connections from Macs.

  • Best Remote Control App

I've read countless reviews on most of the iPad remotes for Mac, but remain hesitant to spend 30 bucks before I know more.
I'm not looking to access my iMac from outside my home, just through my Airport N Wireless network. Basically I need to turn my iPad into a visual touchscreen remote control.
"iTeleport" sounds good, but some users complain there's no RDP support... would that matter to someone who's exclusively using Mac OS?
"Desktop Connect" also sounds good with its touch screen control feature, but same issue with some users complaining it's too slow. Not sure if that's because they are connecting to a Windows machine vs a Mac? Or they're connecting over the internet rather than their home network?
Anyone tried any of these apps? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Remote Control Best Practices

Hello. I am new to the world of Mac. I have a bunch of Windows XP machines at home but just bought a MacBook White for my daughter for college. I would like to be able to provide tech support while she is away so I have to find a remote control solution that will do the trick.
I will not have a Mac at the house (at least not right away) so I am hoping to find something that will allow me to access her Mac over the Internet using a Windows-based client.
So I have two basic questions:
    1) What is my best solution for this? I read that VNC might work but is that the best solution? If so, is there a VNC Host already embedded in the MAC OS or do I have to find one (and where)?
    2) If I end up getting a MacBook Air, what Apple-based solution is best? ARD? WHat would I have to install/purchase on both the MacBook and the Air?
Thanks for your suggestions and patience with a Windows guy who appreciates Mac.

I have been very successful using TeamViewer from Mac to Mac, Mac to Windows and some Windows to Mac. It's free to use within limits: you have to buy it if you're using it professionally, but for what you're talking about, it's free. http://teamviewer.com
If you've tried it before, download it again, because they just released the 4.0 version the other day. I've gotten through many firewalls with it, and even some dual NAT situations.
If you get a Mac, you can also use the screen sharing function of iChat, but I find it to be a lot less reliable than TeamViewer, expecially through corporate firewalls.

  • Remote control between two phones ?

    Hi
Is there any S60 application which could control another (similar) phone (N or E series) remotely e.g. via Bluetooth ?
There are somekind of VNC applications at market, but there is always PC involved. In my case I would like to control another phone remotely when it (e.g. N95) is connected to TV set.
Currently I need to keep my phone in my hand in order to change pictures or play music.

  • Remote control software

I am a new owner of a Powerbook so excuse the rookie questions. I need to be able to remotely control a couple of Windows machines. Previous to my Mac I used either gotomypc or logmein. Both work sort of with the mac but not very well at all. Very slow. I would like some recommendations for software that will perform this function better with my new mac. Preferably something web based like I have been using up to this point.
    Thanks for your time.

You should be able to use any VNC client/server combination. Install the server on PC, and the client on your Mac.
Numerous titles can be found at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com.

  • Would like to see remote control apps, please.

Would really like to see Logmein (Ignition) or Teamviewer remote control app!!
I have left feedback with Logmein and Teamviewer Sales and Support to contact HP.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

just setup logmein on my windows 7 and connected from my touchpad via www.logmein.com seems to work except for the typical problem of webos intercepting taps and drags thinking I want to zoom or scroll the screen image rather than pass the tap/drag to the website why not provide option where the taps, zooms and drags are passed through when button down? also downloaded VNC CLIENT from catalog but not tried yet.... Any experience anyone?

  • Remote control of Mac via Flash iOS app

    Hi all
I am a very trial-and-error Flash coder but have managed to create a (I think) pretty serviceable VJ system - see http://www.smashedupsoiree.com/magic-wall/
There are two Flash movies that run concurrently on the same Mac. One is the video content itself which is displayed by a projector; the other is the Controller movie which runs on the mac laptop screen. The two movies communicate by LocalConnection. I have had some success using VNC apps on an ipad which grabs the screen from the Mac and therefore enables this Controller movie to be effectively operated as a touch screen, portable interface. However there are latency issues with VNC - not what you need for a live performance tool!
I am considering instead developing the controller as a packaged-for-ios app to reduce the latency issues. If I do so, does anyone know how it will be able to control the flash movie running on the mac on the same network? (In the vein of these kinds of apps: http://mashable.com/2010/02/28/iphone-remote-control-apps/ )? I have read that Local Connections do not work in Packaged-for-iOS apps. Would I instead use Apple APIs? How is this done via Flash Actionscript? I would want to either control the Mac-based movie like a LocalConnection or even simulating keypresses would be fine, that I can then detect with the Mac Flash movie.
As I mentioned before, I'm no professional coder so the whole matter is a bit blurry to me! Any pointers would be much appreciated...

  • Pulseaudio remote control

What I'm looking for is a way to control pulseaudio from my phone.
I love Pulseaudio Volume Control (the desktop app which lets you control each application's volume level). The best thing would be an android app which connects to pavu. I guess that's not going to happen anytime soon, so this is why I'm asking for alternatives here.
What I've been thinking of but haven't done because it's so clumsy:
    - connect to my computer via vnc as a second screen and have pavucontrol run there
--> not really elegant at all
    - write my own android app and have it log in to my pc using ssh.
--> well, this takes time. Last resort.
Remote controlling only my music player for example is NOT an option. I have many applications running which play sound and I want to mix them all together, not with an app for each one of these. I'm talking about
    - being on teamspeak
    - playing some music
    - having system sounds
    - and the occasional notification from somewhere
at the same time. Doing it manually is just not an option.
    Thanks for any ideas!

A quick search did not turn up anything for andriod, but the wiki mentions a web front end that might help you get what you want: https://github.com/Siot/PaWebControl.
EDIT: You can also try setting up an programmable SSH client with defined commands for the most common use cases.

  • ZCM remote control on Windows 7 slow

    Hi!
Well, ZCM 11.2.1, Windows 7. Noticed that Remote Control via ZCC is ... strangely slow when user is logged in. On CAD screen it's ok. Well, this is first W7 device in zone, haven't noticed such a thing on WXP.
Btw. Using Intel KVM (also VNC) ... it is much more quicker, well, sure, hardware based etc., but anyway.
Also, I use on my WXP device remote control soft from ZCM 10.x, maybe this the cause, not sure ZCM 11.x remote control soft does work with ZCM 10, I need them both running on my desktop as most of computers in ZCM 10 zone.
    Any ideas?
    More thanks, Alar.

I'm not aware that you can use both versions of the Remote Management Plugin against two diff. Zones.
    Perhaps that's the issue?
Do you have a pc that you can install JUST the ZCM 11.x remote management viewer and then try to remote control a ZCM 11.x agent?
